There had been some news that reached the office of the Mizukage. This news was of the kidnapping of children in the new archipelago settlements by dastardly pirates. The mission was to rescue them and even possibly make them students of the academy. This proved a dilemma for Kyoko because that meant she had to decide between her job and the good of the village's future. She wasn't the Mizukage so it shouldn't have been a hard choice, but she understood what it meant to be a child who had her family taken from them and while it was a reverse situation for those children she could still sympathize. [break][break]

So when she decided to take on the mission she also decided she would ask her brother to help her with the mission. Before accepting the mission herself she would look at her brother, who was nearby, and ask, "Daichi would you care to join me for this mission?" Looking towards Toru she would address him also and ask, "Would that be ok with you sir?" She figured it was best to ask him his permission too just in case he was against it. The Mizukage could handle himself without the both of them being there for a single mission she was sure of it. Besides the safety of these children felt more important in this specific scenario than anything else.

Daichi, ever studious, was assisting the Mizukage with paperwork: going through academy student files this time, reading reports from the instructors and taking notes on which of the children might be ready to go through their genin examinations in the next few months. The FEAR exam took some effort to set up, and he wanted to be prepared, make sure Toru had everything he needed to make it go off without a hitch— Kyoko’s voice wrenched Daichi from his focus, her question a sudden one. He finished writing a line of characters, finishing up Tota’s most recent evaluation, before getting up to peer over his sister’s shoulder at the mission scroll she was holding. How he felt about Kyoko being assigned to guard the Mizukage alongside him, he wasn’t sure. Kyoko was one of the seven swordsman, an accomplished practitioner of bukijutsu, had been promoted to genin even younger than Daichi had… he was proud of her success. How could he not be? But it was hard not to feel like she was outpacing him in every way. Pirates kidnapping children, the mission scroll said. Daichi frowned. Objectively, Kyoko would be able to handle the pirates on her own—but he could absolutely help her find them. It would go a lot faster and a lot smoother if he was there to help her navigate. "I’d like to help, if you don’t mind, my lord,” Daichi said. "It’ll be a lot more efficient with both of us.” A pause, and then: "Though, if we head out to take care of this, I want to leave you with a genjutsu intolerance seal and an alternate sensory guard,” he said. Mizukage didn’t need much in the way of physical protection, but information was invaluable to him. "And one of the owls, so I can come back if you need me.” He didn’t quite realize the incorrect use of pronouns; forgetting, as he so often did in this new period of adjustment, that his sister would need to return back just as urgently as Daichi did.

Toru was in perhaps some of the most tedious brunt of work, he always gave some of the easier but numerous paperwork to those around him. He had other things to read and stamp, higher ranking missions, missions that were of the highest priority in terms of secrecy. Border control, and other such things. Some things the council complained about but thus why they had meetings frequently to make sure most everyone was on the same page, though Toru had to admit he was someone who frequently shot down the council, their archaic muddled ideas were not ones he appreciated.

Which was why, when his two bodyguards piped up, his gaze moved between Kyoko and Daichi.

"Hm?"

He motioned for Kyoko to show the scroll, and once he gave it a brief read he pulled it from her hands and executed the order then and there.

"If it please the both of you..." Toru had the mind to assign it to two who were not directly involved with him as bodyguards, but bodyguards needed to keep their abilities sharp too, it would not be a huge issue for them to take a short leave.

Once the scroll was signed he rolled it back up and handed it to Kyoko.

"Yes, let us hope the nation does not get attacked while you are away," He replied blandly, a hint of playful sarcasm towards Daichi, though it was not meant to be venomous. The young leader leaned back into his chair.

"Do not be gone long, what kind of bodyguards are you otherwise?"

Things seemed to be progressing quite nicely in Kyoko's favor. Daichi was willing to join in on the mission and leave their lord with some security of his choosing and Lord Mizukage even accepted them to take on the mission together at the possible risk of his safety being jeopardized. Once the mission was signed off on Kyoko would take the scroll and give her lord a bow before adding, "I'm sure the mission won't be too long and as such we will return to your side as quickly as possible." In her mind, though she would comment that Toru would probably be strong enough on their own they wouldn't need either of them as protection anyways, but this was a form of job security so she wouldn't push that comment out of her mind and file it as unnecessary in the file cabinet of her mind. Turning to Daichi she would add, "Alright let's get this done quickly!" With that, she would rush out of the room and make her way to the docks where they would need to catch a ship to the islands in question that the mission would be taking place at. Once there Kyoko would rely on Daichi to figure out which type of ship they would need to take and whom to hail it from. She was still fairly new to being a Chunin and having some sort of authority with being the Mizukage's bodyguard so leaving it to someone more experienced with this seemed like the right choice. Giving Daichi a chance to flex his knowledge and skills for her she would ask him, "So how do we go about this then?" Letting her little sister vibes take control of this conversation for her older brother whom she was just happy to be spending time with.

Yes, let us hope the nation does not get attacked while you are away. Daichi snorted despite himself. He was—and had always been—acutely aware that Toru didn’t need bodyguards, between his own skill and the help of the bijuu, but… Daichi worried regardless. That was his job, right? With consent requested and given, Daichi formed three handseals, touching his fingertips lightly to the Mizukage’s forehead to place the genjutsu intolerance seal—simple, unnoticeable once placed, but effective. Skin prickling, he bit his thumb to draw blood, and followed up with the second of his requests: summoning Bai, the youngest of the owls. She and Daichi had a brief exchange while Kyoko rushed out of the room. He turned to Toru, a brief smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Be safe,” he said, before loping off after his sister. He was a minute or so behind her, having taken a brief detour in the Kage tower to coordinate with one of the other sensors on duty to notify them of his absence, but caught up with her at the docks, where Kyoko was brimming with excitement and ready to go. He was… taken aback by her question, though, not completely used to being looked to as the one in charge. Daichi had always been the subordinate, the team player, the questions-asker, the learner. He cleared his throat. "Well, uh,” he started lamely, "the Suiryu Butai will be able to get us to the settlements that the kids were taken from, and we can get information from the locals to get a sense of the general direction the pirates sailed in. My sensory works out to about a kilometer, so once we get going I’ll focus on casting a wide net so we can pinpoint them from as far a distance as possible. From there… it’s kinda your party, Kyo.” He grinned, patting her briefly on the head. "You know more about the action side of things than I do. C’mon, let’s go.” More conversations, coordination, et cetera. Once they had set sail, it hopefully wouldn’t take too long to get to the settlement—he was already feeling the anxiety of distance, Toru’s chakra signature now well out of his passive awareness, and was eager to get the job done and get back ASAP.

This Seal requires 3 hand signs to perform and must be applied to the head of the target/person in question. Once in place the seal links itself directly to the persons mind and sustains itself by altering the flow of chakra to go through it. The seal activates if any foreign chakra or influence affects the chakra around the brain causing the person in question to suffer a shot lived if not inconsiderable jolt of pain by shocking nearby nerves. This seal serves as an effective means to inform the individual if he is under a genjutsu and can dispel genjutsu techniques by means of the moderate pain it causes. One of the most common and beneficial techniques in the known shinobi world. Simply drawing blood and releasing a mass of chakra from one's extended hand is capable of calling an animal or otherwise to one's location. As a Space-Time Ninjutsu, this technique is capable of instantly displacing an intended summon from wherever they may be to the requested location, though there are obstacles that can prevent this. To use this jutsu, one must first make a contract with whatever they are summoning, living creature or not. Both the size and the stamina of what a shinobi calls upon increases the demand of chakra they must spend to perform the jutsu.

Toru shut his eyes and let Daichi place his seal before leaning away and going back to his work as the two Yamaguchi siblings departed with their jobs in hand.

They would go by a very small river boat towards the coast where they could board a larger Suiryu Butai ship and begin sailing towards the archipelago. By the time they reached their destination the sun of the spring day had started to set, but set the sky ablaze with a pale frosted blue with polar day light. It was not until much later that the sky turned to an inky whirlpool pricked with an infinite amount of constellations the moon their guide in the dark.

The waves were soon calm, the sea was soothing with the rush of waves and wind, the lulling and rolling carrying their ship along like a lullaby.

It was here, in this seeming black nothingness that the ship stopped moving forward, somewhere between two distant pieces of land - impossible to tell as they were shrouded in darkness too - that Daichi might benefit from searching for the pirate ships.

The crew of the ship settled, the Captain at the helm started to come down from his spot up top.

"Aye, there 'round here somewhere," He grumbled, he had a gruff and grizzled voice as he spoke to Kyoko and Daichi. "Ya ain't gonna miss'em that's fer sure."

Kyoko would make it to the docks first which was to be expected since she did get a head start on it in comparison with Daichi. She did look back when she left the Mizukage's office and wondered a bit why he was stuck behind for a bit, but she would push it off as him doing some last-minute preparations to make sure Toru was protected. He was such a diligent brother and Kyoko was proud to be working alongside him and his diligence. It just meant things would be easy once this mission began ramping up. [break][break]

Once Diachi caught up to her at the docks he would begin explaining a few things he knew about the mission in detail. He was so smart. Kyoko couldn't help and smile at the passion he had for his job and she looked up to him so much, but she couldn't believe when he said the action portion of this mission would probably be in her hands. "You know full well we will need your sensor abilities while in combat too," Kyoko would say teasing her brother because she knew full well how talented he was and how necessary he would be for this mission. "I might not be able to find the children without your abilities to sense things and might just end up getting lost anyways." This comment was in a sense made to pep up her brother's abilities as she help a huge amount of faith in him for this mission. [break][break]

They would eventually find themselves on a ship and the night sky would slowly envelop them as stars begin to dot the air. Kyoko would constantly look back at Daichi to see if he could sense anything during the trip wondering if maybe she should learn how to do some of his natural abilities too one day. having two sensors doing the same thing for the Mizukage just seemed redundant to her though so maybe she should learn something different to help ease the work of Daichi and be an even more assistance to Toru. She could try and learn sensor jamming which would prove beneficial. While Daichi will be able to sense enemies she could stop them from sensing them and that seemed like a good combination to her.[break][break]

Soon the ship would stop moving which would cause Kyoko to leave the daydreaming of her future planning and focus right back on the mission. The captain of the ship would say the pirates would be around here somewhere which meant it was time for Daichi to shine to locate the children they were here to rescue. She wouldn't sit still though while her brother looked for them though as she began prepping herself for a possible fight. Pulling her cloak above her head to cover most of her face she began checking her weapons to make sure they were ready for battle. once everything was ready and accounted for she would wait for her brother's signal before heading off to their destination.

Kyoko’s unerring, unfaltering faith in him was so plain on her face that it almost made Daichi uncomfortable. It was objectively true that she was the stronger combatant of the two of them, and seemed objectively true as well that she was either well on her way or had already surpassed his skill despite being younger than him, and starting her training later than he did. It didn’t sit well, but ultimately that was his own burden to carry. If she was surpassing him, then he needed to step it up. Darkness fell, the seas calmed, and the ship’s captain gave his grizzled notice. "Thank you, sir,” Daichi said. "Kyo, here—” He reached out, grabbing onto his sister’s forearm as he focused. Pulses of chakra went out in waves, bouncing off relatively normal signatures of the crew, the depths of reserves that his sister had been blessed with, and out over the open waters into the darkness, in search of pirates and the children they had stolen. With every pulse he transmitted that information to Kyoko, so that she was aware of precisely what he was aware of. "We need to get the kids off the ship before we sink them,” he said softly. Unconsciously, his voice dropped in volume, as if their targets could hear him if he spoke too loudly. "I can take care of evacuating the kids and prepping the explosions, but I’ll need you to handle the pirates, is that okay?” As an afterthought, he turned to the captain. "Captain, is there a lifeboat we can borrow?” he asked, just a touch louder to make himself heard. "A dinghy big enough to fit—say, half a dozen kids?” Better to overestimate the number of potential captives than under, he thought, and a large scroll would likely be enough to fit a dinghy of that size.

Daichi put out a signal and started to transmit it towards his sister at the same time. It took a few minutes, but suddenly the transmission came back with a few pings appearing to be floating above the water. The more time wore on, the more pings came back little by little. There was only one significant signature to be aware of though, the rest were substantially smaller.

There were four as well closer to the water, two of those were seemingly smaller than everyone else and curled in on themselves. The other two were clearly standing upright. Despite Daichi being able to see through his sensory, looking out into the darkness the ship that was moving by was not visible to the naked eye. Obscured by the almost infinite inkiness of the world at night. There was something dreadful and ominous about it all, and if either one of them chose to stare out it might unsettle them.

Might.

Some had a stronger nerve than others after all.

"Aye. Up there." The man pointed up for them both to see.

But now the duo had to figure out their approach, would they traverse the murky inky waters by foot, by dingy or see if the target would get closer? There was no guarantee that it would get closer though and each minute that slipped by was a precious moment gone.

Daichi would soon begin his scouting with his sensor abilities which he would then in turn grab onto her forearm to transmit this information to her too. This excited Kyoko since she wasn't a sensor shinobi like her brother was so being able to experience what he could do was a very cool learning experience for her. She could see what he was seeing. Pings of chakra across the area bouncing off objects and creating a sort of figure in her mind. While not super descriptive it gave information similar to that of a feeling or like a shadow in a dark room. Not precise, but enough to see something within the darkness. It was fascinating that was for sure, but they needed to figure out how to do this without endangering the children they would be rescuing, but how?[break][break]

It seemed Daichi already had a plan ready which was good as it meant Kyoko didn't have to think too hard about this if things were carefully in his hand. "Can do!" Kyoko would say to her brother giving him a salute knowing full well this meant she would have to take care of the pirates to make sure he could save the children. In a way, she would be the distraction for this mission which was fine by her since she was the combative one of the two of them. Her brother would even ask the captain about giving them a boat for their escape to which Kyoko gave herself a mental note for a second escape point if needed. Her jellyfish contract if she needed to stay behind might be handy for this mission. To summon Shizue to get out if she stayed on board just a tad too long. It of course would put her in danger if she did that and it wasn't a fast escape option, but if she needed to keep the pirates at bay for Daichi she would be willing to do that.

The captain indicated a dinghy. Daichi felt the seconds slipping by, felt the pressure of that inky black expanse of the ocean at night, but he remained level-headed: the precious minutes he spent preparing would be minutes saved in the midst of chaos. First, the escape route. Daichi unrolled his large sealing scroll and quickly wrote out the appropriate seals, pressing chakra into the parchment with ink-flecked fingers and storing the dinghy safely inside. He strapped the scroll securely to his back, and then followed the second of his routines, consistent precautions he took against more significant chakra signatures: three handseals and a delicate press of his fingertips to Kyoko’s forehead, a genjutsu intolerance seal; and the careful preparation of a Lion’s Closing Roar tag, which he then gave to Kyoko. "This will lock down an enemy’s chakra network if needed,” he said, softly. "Let’s go on foot. Keep low, keep quiet. I’ll try to find a way to slip in below deck while you go above. If you need help, just flare your chakra; I’ll be watching.” He gave a jaunty little two-fingered salute to the captain before focusing chakra in the soles of his feet and lowering himself overboard to the quiet waves below. Walking on sea water had always been more difficult than the placid waters of Kirigakure’s lake, but he could manage if he focused; this seemed like the easiest way to slip up undetected. Once they drew close to the enemy ship, he would begin looking for some way to sneak in below deck from the water, in an effort to get to the children undetected.

This Seal requires 3 hand signs to perform and must be applied to the head of the target/person in question. Once in place the seal links itself directly to the persons mind and sustains itself by altering the flow of chakra to go through it. The seal activates if any foreign chakra or influence affects the chakra around the brain causing the person in question to suffer a shot lived if not inconsiderable jolt of pain by shocking nearby nerves. This seal serves as an effective means to inform the individual if he is under a genjutsu and can dispel genjutsu techniques by means of the moderate pain it causes. This seal must be placed on a person prior to a genjutsu attack to be effective and thus is of limited use once battle commences. It does not cost any chakra to maintain due to the seal being largely dormant most of the time.

Upon either placing one's hand upon a surface or utilizing an item that is capable of creating and transferring the technique, the user will create a diamond-shaped seal of varying size, depending on the user's whim. Those within the confines of this seal, touching the medium to which it is within, will feel their bodies blocked of chakra, as it works to seal one's entire body of its tenketsu. This prevents the user from releasing or even molding their chakra, removing their power of jutsu. However, the seal does nothing to stop one's physical movements, acting as a flaw that the user must take care of his or herself.

Daichi was quick to prepare the entire scene before suggesting they go down quietly and without being seen. Indeed moving across the inky wavy water might be more dangerous but it would provide the cover the Yamaguchi siblings would need to approach without being spotted. Especially since they both had dark hair that would blend almost perfectly with the water. The ship had not yet spotted theirs, or perhaps they were just ignoring it and if they traveled along the shadows cast by the ship the pirate ship would be non the wiser.

Once they were nearby, Daichi was looking for a place to sneak in. Indeed there were not a lot of weak spots on the ship. But a few windows, round porthole style that might they might be able to slip into. Well, Kyoko would, but the bulky Daichi might find it more difficult. It was also possible to crawl up the side of the ship inspect the patrols or how those on deck were standing and try to hide and sneak in between barrels to get to the latch that led to just underneath the deck.

There were a few options, but only the porthole one was really the 'safe' option even if Daichi would not be able to follow in, perhaps they needed another plan? Or to switch how they would approach. Perhaps it was Daichi would need to fight today.

Daichi was in his element now and Kyoko was happy to be able to witness it firsthand. Preparation was his specialty and with the genjutsu intolerance seal he placed upon her head Kyoko was ready to fight for him and save these children for Kirigakure. He even gave her a tag with a Fuin technique on it should she need it. Kyoko would give her thanks before putting the seal away for later use. Feeling she needed to also give him something she dug into her pouch and pulled out her retractable bo staff. "I know you aren't the type to use weapons very often, but just in case." Placing the still pinned bo staff in her brother's hands. It was her gift just in case the two got separated and he needed to defend himself. Besides Kyoko had other weapons she could use so she wouldn't be defenseless.[break][break]

Following her brother's orders she would walk behind him upon the water's surface trying to keep as quiet as him as they approached the enemy ship. Kyoko would notice the portholes on the side of the ship, but they didn't look big enough for Daichi to squeeze through. Which would prove to be a problem based on Daichi's instructions he gave earlier. "We might have to switch roles," Kyoko would whisper to her brother doing her best to be as quiet as possible with being so close to proximity to the enemy. Since Daichi was the one in charge of this mission Kyoko would follow his orders based on his assessment of the situation they were currently under.

Daichi had never had cause to regret his aesthetically-focused bodybuilding before, but every day was bringing new revelations lately. Bo staff in hand, he looked sourly at the narrow porthole, knowing objectively that his shoulders were far too broad to fit and feeling extremely put-out about it. His initial thought was that a basic transformation technique to just turn into Kyoko would problem-solve this for him immediately—except the opportunity to do so without a loud sound and an obvious poof of smoke had long since passed, and performing the technique would risk giving their positions and presence away. Restraining a sigh, Daichi nodded to Kyoko with resignation, handing over the large scroll that contained the dinghy and gesturing silently for her to go ahead and slip in through the porthole. He might’ve performed the same preparations for himself as he did for Kyoko, but time was passing by quickly, and every moment they wasted was another moment that those children were in danger. He settled for performing a simple barrier technique, crafting a thin layer of chakra across his skin to protect himself, then used the tree-climbing technique to quietly scale the side of the ship and creep onto the deck above, his sensory awareness flung wide all the while.

DESCRIPTION:

The user creates a small barrier on the very outside of their skin. While this barrier is not anywhere near as resilient as other barriers because of how stretched thin it is, a normal punch being able to break it, it does protect the user from the brunt of all but the most serious attacks. Its effectiveness comes from the fact that it requires no chakra to maintain and is self repairing. However while repairing it is no longer effective and requires two whole post for the armor to becoming functional again after being hit with anything resembling an actual attack, though being hit with things that would not truly count as an attack would not break it. Requires two hand seals.

Daichi agreed to switch roles with Kyoko and gave her the scroll so that she could try and make it through one of the portholes - though it would require some deft breaking of glass it wasn't impossible to do if she was careful. It was even possible to do silently, slow and steady won the race here.

Meanwhile Daichi would scale the side of the ship and creep up and onto the deck. There were no immediate enemies that were directly staring at him, but he needed to move quickly. There were some barrels off to the side that he could hide behind while he got acquainted with the layout.

There was one pirate wandering the deck back and forth from one board bow to the other. Another that was closer up towards the front of the ship and someone with a decent amount of a chakra signature up towards the helm.

There were a few more individuals that were asleep beneath the deck their signatures fuzzy and unfocused due to their sleepiness. Making a lot of noise would most certainly make certain that Daichi would have to deal with a bunch of enemies all at once. Perhaps he could find a way to get rid of his opponents without stirring anything up... But the man at the helm could see everything else, which likely meant him first were it not for the fact that he also seemed to be the most trained.
