Gojira’s command deck sat at the front of the ship, overlooking the ocean through the open mouth of the intricate figurehead of a reptilian god that struck fear into the hearts of sailors throughout the region. Only weeks ago had the fine vessel been turned over to a new Kaigun-shōsa, Ama Umidebito. The admiral himself was a relatively fresh face, and this was his first voyage on what was now to be his flag ship.

He spent much of his time in quiet isolation, leaving the affairs of the ship to his younger Ama cousin until he was alerted that they were moving into position to begin the mission. The crew was already briefed, but he still needed to speak with the away team. One of the members was the captain herself, who’d put the ship in the command of a warrant officer. The other was a chunin who didn’t have a naval background, but was a promising warrior who seemed like she would excel at raids.

Soon, the two would be gathered and he would begin his mission briefing.

"We are at this moment approaching a large island in search of a group of escaped convicts, many of them pirates who have gotten shinobi training from defectors. In other words, the wardens of the Suiryū Tenshukaku Hogo messed up and now it is our problem,” he told them. "Our official orders are to circle the Island and then survey it, avoiding direct contact with them for now. It seems like they want to know of their whereabouts in order to track them to bigger fish. However, command also said that if we our spotted, we are to exterminate the criminals and leave no evidence of our involvement.”

The Uzumaki paused for a moment and adjusted the scarf on his neck.

"Should we be spotted at sea, our team will activate and go ashore. We can allow none to escape in this case. If we do not spot them and they do not spot us, then our team will be activated to explore the island on foot. Are there any questions or ideas on how we might proceed?”

There was still a little time before they would arrive. He watched the two ladies without much hint of his mood in his face. Though he seemed to possess some speaking ability, he was not very sociable.

There is only one path left to take.

News of a new leader for Kasumi's ops team was taken... not quite in stride, but rather more of a skeptic indifference. Kyouka might have been an awful old hag, but she definitely had Kasumi's respect. She had hardly even talked to this new guy, yet here she was on a boat getting ready for a B ranked mission with him.

Kasumi might not have had any official experience on a boat, but this was far from her first time on one. In fact, she'd been sailing to and from Yukigakure for missions quite often lately. When her new team leader went to find her, not only would Kasumi be comfortable on the boat but also assisting in the chores that came with sailing the vessel. Of course, she'd unceremoniously drop those duties and appear for the meeting when she heard she was requested.

Talk of pirates and convicts rose her brow, but she was more interested in the strange way that the mission was laid out than the details of the enemies. "This mission makes it seem like these pirates, obviously, are a threat to the safety and stability of the village."

Kasumi would lean back against the railing of the boat, hand resting on her sword. "Wouldn't it be a complete success if we just... wipe them out? Find and destroy them?"

Of course, the student of Kyouka would be the one that had the balls to suggest going against the directive to see the true meaning of the mission and try to excel. "Are we an operations team if we really just find an enemy, point our finger at them, and have someone else handle it?" She'd spit over the side of the boat. "Seems like cowardice to me."

Kasumi has become known for her strange chakara form. When in a dire situation, she is capable of releasing her chakra, which in turn takes a strange color unlike the normal blue color of chakra, and takes the form of a demonic cat figure. She is then enveloped in a demon shroud.

This ability grants her a fierce looking aura, that may come off as intimidating and a tenacity to push beyond their normal limits physically- when this mode is activated, Kasumi is harder to knock out or kill and will generally fight for longer than a normal body is capable of.

Keeping this ability active has a low drain on Kasumi's chakara.

Since a young age, Kasumi has felt the weight of a sword in her hands. She's practiced combat with swords, and is able to compete with some of the best sword users around. That said, people who lack training with a sword or intensive Taijutsu tend to be overwhelmed by her skill.

Kasumi was born with higher than average chakara reserves, letting her use more chakara and jutsu without being exhausted. A natural gift from her lineage. She has learned how to properly take advantage of these reserves.

One Handed Demon Style:
Through patience and recklessness, Kasumi has mastered the ability to do jutsu with only one available hand. She can cast jutsu only using one hand for the seals.

The young Captain entered the command deck and took her seat. She was incredibly cognisant of her cousin staring out over the water and her muscles felt tense with anxiety as she wondered why he hadn’t acknowledged her yet. This was much too formal a meeting and she didn’t like it. Umi breathed in deeply through her nostrils as her eyes flicked over to the third member of the Ops team; a peer to her rather than a subordinate. It was only then that she noticed her own rigid posture and she did her best to appear more relaxed. [break][break]

"Hmm…” Umi pondered her teammate’s suggestion. She did some quick mental gymnastics to predict what her cousin might say about following orders while also doing her best to avoid seeming confrontational as she explained her thoughts on the subject. "I can appreciate your eagerness but a softer approach may lead to a more persistent victory. The criminals here may lead to a bigger fish as they say; perhaps a crime lord or some missing ninja.” [break][break]

She turned her attention to the Admiral, "I suggest we keep the ship far out to sea while the three of us make our way into the town. I possess a sensory ability that allows me to keep tabs on people so long as I am familiar with their chakra signature. We would only need to get just close enough that I could choose a few targets that seem worth monitoring long term.”

With his back still turned to face out, Ichigoni listened to the two kunoichi as he observed the island finally growing visible through the haze. It was shaped like a dumpling with a bite taken out of it, forming a cove full of seawater. The coast around it didn’t have any apparent town that one could see, it looked uninhabited at at least a surface level. With Umidebito’s sensory abilities, she would be able to feel a number of chakra signatures near the center of the island, beneath the massive cove that fell under a small mountaintop.

Ichigoni chuckled, he had gotten so used to naval formalities that Kasumi’s candor was almost refreshing. "I agree with you actually, Kasumi. I suspect that the real reason they’d rather we not engage is because the prison wardens do not want us to take their glory, if I am being honest.”

He turned about, it looked like there might be some levity in his often serious expression, though it was difficult to tell because of the wrappings in front of his mouth.

"We have to carry out the intent of the mission, to the best of our ability. Umidebito is correct, although I don’t see any settlement. The ship will do a few more passes, and if we can’t get a visual then we will go ashore.”

After speaking, he began to weave a long string of hand seals, perhaps the longest that either of them had ever seen. Twenty-seven in total, but with no apparent effect occurring after its completion. No explanation given either.

There was time to prepare and make any last minute contributions to planning, but confirming the criminals wasn’t possible from the ship. Even sensory data wasn’t truly enough without confirming who the people were. When the group was ready, Ichigoni would meet them on the surface of the water, where he channeled chakra into his feet and readied himself to move towards the Island.

Kasumi raised a brow and fought the urge to smirk when her new team leader spoke. He, as well, had seen through the orders of the mission? Then this might actually be an easier transition than Kasumi had thought. Until he finished his thought. They couldn't go against the direct words of the missions.

Kasumi rolled her eyes so hard it was nearly audible. If this was Kyouka, she'd have been the first to say there was many ways to skin a cat. That it was better to play to your strengths and succeed than play by the book and lose.

"Save some face for some lousy prison wardens that let prisoners escape? Riiiight. Let's start... scouting, then." Kasumi would grumble, not waiting for permission from the team leader to leave as she walked passed him to the other end of the ship and squinted at the island. "I can't see nothin' at all. Sheesh. Must be hiding like super far inland."

There was clearly no intention from the Demon of the Mist to call this mission quits without actually helping her country. The way that needed to be done.

"We gonna do a whole lap of this island? At least let me push some sails or something. And who's giving the mission report on this? We gonna include the part where I figured out the whole thing?"

The Captain went to the helm and ordered her subordinate to keep the ship out of sight. She handed over command to a skilled sailor and made her way down to the main deck. She peered out across the fog at the island and then more specifically a cove where she sensed people were gathered. [break][break]

Now that business on the ship had been handled she removed her jacket and tricorn hat. Umi shared the details of what she’d sensed with her cousin when they met down on the surface of the water. "Let’s get to the shore and hide in the treeline to keep the element of surprise while we figure out a way to infiltrate the cove. I’ll scout ahead a bit.” [break][break]

Umi dove under the surface of the water with hardly a splash as she activated her aquatic transformation; gils opened on her neck and her legs fused into a scaly fish tail. With a mighty flick of her fin she sped off under the surface of the water, keeping an eye out for any threats that might be lurking in the reef. [break][break]

If she didn’t see anything, she would clamber up onto the beach and run across the hot sand to the shade of the trees as she had suggested.

After a few laps and helping to arrange Kasumi into a working party on the ship's deck, he decided to make the call. He observed the young kunoichi from afar in his quarters along with the deck hands, seeing that she had some knowledge of sailing already under her arsenal. Perhaps she would make a good Kaigun-shōi (an ensign), he didn’t want his officers to all be "yes men”, as it were. It’d be convenient anyways, to have his operations team members all working on the same ship if he could have it his way.

Perhaps he’d offer it if he could win her respect. Which didn’t seem like an easy task.

Deep down, Ichigoni hoped that the mission would end up calling for action. Though he was promoted to Kaigun-daisa, he hadn’t quite lost his captain’s mentality. Admirals often made a difference strategically, but it didn’t feel as good as getting results. He empathized with her feelings, but ultimately he wouldn’t disobey orders.

The Uzumaki trekked along the waters on their trip, keeping behind both Kasumi and Umidebito. He scanned the shoreline and found nothing with his eye, though the promise of the Ama’s sensory abilities picking up people within the cove was most interesting to him.

"Let’s waste no time. Keep yourselves hidden in the water as we enter the cove. If combat begins, Umidebito will seal the entrance of the cove, and it will not be unsealed until all within are dead... besides us.”

His own approach to infiltration was to breathe in a deep breath and perform a jutsu known as the hidden mist breathing technique. With it, he would be able to hold his breath while submerged for at least fifteen minutes.

Deep within the cove itself was a little town built out of wrecked ships and driftwood. There were many a scoundrel and scallawag awaiting them, with expert lookouts one hundred meters into the cave. He stayed near the middle of the group while they tried to traverse, allowing Kasumi to take point while Umidebito was to hold up from the rear.

The two makeshift gate guards were twins. They stood under four feet tall, with burly builds and large beards. Each of them was holding a trident and had little conch shell horns that they wore over mesh armor.

Despite being upset with the idea that her team wasn't going to, in her own eyes, actually try to complete the mission- Kasumi was still a shinobi. With the plan in place to start, Kasumi jumped into the water behind Umidebito. Unlike her companions, though, she had no special ability to get through the water besides water walking. Which was probably not the best idea if the goal was to be stealthy.

The Demon Cat would swim her way to the beach, doing her best to not be too obvious about it. When she stepped onto the beach- clothes soaked- she clearly had an agitated frown on her face from the venture. Still she followed into the shade of the trees as they approached the cave. This time Kasumi was on point.

"There's two guards ahead." She'd tell her team, hints of a smile crossing her face. "We'll need to get passed them to find out how many their really are."

Without hesitation, Kasumi would make her way up the nearest tree with her tree climbing ability. Moving closer to the guards while climbing higher. Once she was as close as she could comfortably be, she started making seals with just her right hand. Mist would rise around them, providing cover for the group to cross the gap the lookouts were watching.

It wasn't until Kasumi had successfully ran behind the twins that she realized how obvious that technique would be to anyone from Kirigakure. It was pretty much announcing that there was ninja in the area. The two guards may not have seen her cross, but they definitely knew something was happening now.

Umidebito headed the orders of her commander and lingered at the back of the formation. She poked just the top of her head and eyes through the surface of the water as she sensed a jutsu being cast. The mist rolled in around the guard’s ankles and she could tell immediately they’d been made. Umi closed her eyes as cold resignation washed over her and she willed the Admiral’s orders to seal off the exit to be done. The guard on the left lifted the conch to his lips to sound the alarm but the cavern shook under his feet as a Rashōmon gate rose up in the mouth of the cave; murky green sea water poured over the wrathful expression carved into the stone. There would be no escape by sea for the pirates now. [break][break]

Umi placed a fishbowl over her head and sealed it around her neck as she finally got serious. With her sensory abilities active, she would ensure that no one living here would leave the island alive. The guard caught himself and sounded the alarm though it hardly mattered anymore since the appearance of the gate was just about the least subtle thing Umi could do.

Ichigoni watched from beneath the water as mist began to envelope the cave. It was basically a beacon to the natives that Kirigakure shinobi were rolling in. However, it was a technique that was often employed on stealth missions, so a smile crossed his face. No one would challenge his report now. They could take care of what the mission should have been all along.

As the gate closed up the cove behind him the water rumbled. The Uzumaki formed a series of hand seals and then began moving from beneath the water at a breakneck pace. He jumped out of the water like a breaching white shark, manifested a rod of chakra from beneath his sleeve, and flicked it towards the sound of the guard blowing a whistle through the haze of the mist.

The stake slipped into the center of his body and pierced him to the back of the guard post.

"I- I’m pinned,” the man yelled. He pulled at the stake, but there was no give. Much of his core body strength had been paralyzed, and he found himself slumping down against the rod, barely having the strength in his lungs to keep blowing his panic whistle.

The other guard jumped into the waters of the cove, thinking himself wiser. From within the water he could rely on its clarity to see the rippling footsteps of the shinobi. He spotted Umidebito, formed hand seals, and launched three pressurized bullets of water at her.

From the halls of the cave, Kasumi would hear the sound of iron creaking open. A woman with short brown hair and a stocky build marched forward using water walking. She carried a blackened trident in one hand, and had a net slung over her opposite shoulder.

"Why don’t you come out and play, Mist shinobi!” she called into the mist.

Hisan Fūgui is Ichigoni's specialty technique. The durability of his rods allow them to go toe to toe in clashes with most chakra enhanced weapons without breaking, and they possess the chakra reactive trait.

Relevant Weapon SA
[Futon Reactive]- By expending a low amount of chakra, futon chakra can be expelled when the glove makes a flicking motion to throw an object held in the hand. This greatly enhances the speed of projectile throwing of all kinds, but this effect can't be used while moulding chakra with other elements.

[Hands Free]- The bottom of these gloves are completely soft, flexible, and designed so that they do not interrupt with the process of forming handseals or even wielding a different weapon. Due to this ability the gloves are ill-suited to blocking attacks because only the top is plated.

[Pitcher's Grip]- The bottom of these gloves are made of material with good grip. This makes the glove well suited for throwing projectiles more accurately.

DESCRIPTION:
The user kneads chakra, and converts it into water, and then spits it out in the form of condensed balls. The high-speed water ball attack possesses just as much power to kill as an actual gunshot. While this is a water release technique, it can still be employed someplace where no water is available, which is a great advantage. It is also possible to increase the power of destruction of the spheres themselves by building up the chakra inside of them. The number of bullets is determined while kneading chakra. By taking advantage of gravity, the bullets can brutally increase in power.

A DEMON HAS PURPOSE

There is only one path left to take.

The loud horn was almost like music to Kasumi's ears, even if she was a little worried that'd she might get chewed out for exposing them so obviously. In her eyes, it was a perfect win win. To top it off, she heard the voice calling out for a challenger. Some kind of leader, perhaps.

Kasumi was never one to turn down a challenge, though. She charged towards the voice, running over the water. She knew her teammates could handle the twins on their own. She wanted her own fight.

"Careful what you wish for!" She'd shout out as she sprinted from the edge of the mist. She didn't give her opponent much time to react to the challenge being accepted. Immediately invading her opponents space and trying to smash the pommel of her blade into the opponents gut.

Only, when the move landed, even with Kasumi's impressive strength she could tell that the bandit had some type of fortification under that armor. Only letting out a rough grunt without the expected look of someone who had the wind knocked out of them. "Ah, shit."

The first counter attack was from the trident, slashing at Kasumi's side but as it hit her jacket the fabric refused to tear. Kasumi let out an annoyed huff of her own at the painful impact though. When the net came, Kasumi had to use quick footwork to dodge it. Her close quarters training was nothing to scoff at, and if her teammates watched her they'd be able to tell she was far from worried yet.

Demon Chakra:
Kasumi has become known for her strange chakara form. When in a dire situation, she is capable of releasing her chakra, which in turn takes a strange color unlike the normal blue color of chakra, and takes the form of a demonic cat figure. She is then enveloped in a demon shroud.

This ability grants her a fierce looking aura, that may come off as intimidating and a tenacity to push beyond their normal limits physically- when this mode is activated, Kasumi is harder to knock out or kill and will generally fight for longer than a normal body is capable of.

Keeping this ability active has a low drain on Kasumi's chakara.


Demon sword style:
Since a young age, Kasumi has felt the weight of a sword in her hands. She's practiced combat with swords, and is able to compete with some of the best sword users around. That said, people who lack training with a sword or intensive Taijutsu tend to be overwhelmed by her skill.

Demon chakra pool:
Kasumi was born with higher than average chakara reserves, letting her use more chakara and jutsu without being exhausted. A natural gift from her lineage. She has learned how to properly take advantage of these reserves.

One Handed Demon Style:
Through patience and recklessness, Kasumi has mastered the ability to do jutsu with only one available hand. She can cast jutsu only using one hand for the seals.

Demon Strength:
Through hard work and dedication, Kasumi has trained her body to be strong- even for a shinobi. She has incredible physical strength that is near impossible to match on even footing.

This technique is a variant of Iaigiri, where the intention of the jutsu is to subdue rather than kill. Rather than pull the sword completely out to slice someone with the blade, the user pulls their sword partially out of its sheath at a blindingly fast speed, the user slams the pommel into the opponent with incredible force.

Kuikkurōtēshon [Quick Rotation]
Utilizing chakra in the feet, ankles and legs specifically. It is a small amount of energy, but used precisely on reflexes and timing. This technique is gauged this way. When timed, the user can twist themselves abruptly out of the way of an attack. Like a speedy side-step, but a rotation of one's body to the side. A spin-move. This is only attacks in an immediate vicinity(three meters) anything else is too big an attack. Usually Taijutsu, but sometimes this technique is effective against close-range ninjutsu.

Umi watched as one of the guards leapt into the water with a splash and in the second it took for the bubbles around him to dissipate, she pressed her upturned palms up and sank into the murky depths leaving behind an illusory copy of herself. The pirate sprayed the area with water bullets that passed harmlessly through the clone before it faded into nothing. [break][break]

The guard swiveled left and right trying to catch a glimpse of the aquatic shinobi he’d seen so briefly. It was only at the last second that he looked down to see a scaly hand emerge from the darkness and wrap around his ankle. He was jerked down deeper into the water where Umidebito grappled him from behind. [break][break]

It was only a matter of time. She was truly in her element but he would eventually have to breathe. However, he wouldn’t go quietly and continued to thrash about and claw against her forearm as it wrapped around his windpipe. He slammed the back of his head against her helmet and managed to elbow her in the ribs hard enough to slip from her grasp. [break][break]

He kicked up towards the flickering light of the guard station and just as his outstretched hand broke the surface he was wrenched back down.

When Ichigoni crested the top of his jump, he used his momentum to carry him forward to land in front of the pinned man. He lifted both of his hands up, and a metal rod shot out of each sleeve and into the twins arms. Beneath his skin each place that a rod pierced through became petrified as all of the muscle tissue was sealed.

"It’s your lucky day, you’ve won the lottery,” the Uzumaki told the man who was heaving and wiggling his legs trying to get free.

"Lottery? What lottery?” he demanded.

"I will not kill you, so long as you do what I ask of you.” Ichigoni said. He withdrew a blade from the man’s belt and brought it up to his cheek, pricking it just enough to draw a trickle of blood.

The bearded man spit towards him, but without much use of his body, it ended up in his own beard. Ichigoni exhaled and shook his head, and then telegraphed, raising the blade up as if he were about to bury it into their forehead.

"Wait, what did you want me to do?” the man begged.

Ichigoni smiled. He’d be able to extract some extra intelligence before they left. He could potentially help Kasumi below, but she could use the experience and he could use some good news to pad the mission report.

Meanwhile, while Umidebito had dealt with the other twin by drowning him, other signatures in the cove were beginning to emerge and move much closer to them. Kasumi seemed to be handling the trident wielding woman in a duel, but the Ama might have to intervene in stopping the coming footsteps of additional enemies brandishing swords and spears that were closing in on them.

The fight she was in now against the seeming leader of the pirates was neither of the two she was used to. The two exchanged blows, a small cut earned by Kasumi with one strike- an annoying bruise to the pirate with the next.

"You bastard. You ain't half bad, eh?" There was a bit of sweat on Kasumi's brow, but the pirate lord didn't look much better.

"I could say the same for you. We'd better wrap this up before my men get here and steal the fun though."

This only made Kasumi smile widen. Yeah, she was ready to put an end to this as well. This time she moved in with purpose. Her left hand with the sword focused on the trident, parrying the weapon with the skill of an expert swordsman. Instead of trying to slash the durable enemy, though, Kasumi put a hand on her opponents net and delivered a kick to his stomach that was just hard enough to let Kasumi get control of the net.

"It's over." She growled out, throwing the net over the man to hold him in place. It wouldn't last forever, but Kasumi used the chance to step back and start some hand seals.

As long as the reinforcements didn't get in her way, she had a plan to get through the mans strangely thick skin. She would have to put faith in her teammates to help her with that.

Umi sensed a group rushing towards them. She let the limp body drift away under the surface and swam over to the edge of the water without glancing at her companions. They were near enough that she could passively sense their chakra signatures. She climbed out of the water to meet them at a thin pass where the pirates would be momentarily bottlenecked. She made a series of handseals and water rose up around her condensing into ten spheres which rotated around her protectively. [break][break]

The first of the pirates came into view and she sacrificed one of her spheres to deflect an incoming arrow. Soon about a dozen pirates came rushing in to swarm her and Umi used her divine guardian spheres to fend off their attacks while she made another few handseals.
