Training today had been…
… difficult, to say the least.
Taka had his reservations when Ichi told him he was going to be taking over a genin team: he had little experience with leadership, though after some time to think he surmised that was much the point. He was fine taking over and directing a mission in a pinch, especially if he was the most senior shinobi available, but leading a team was a different matter entirely, and team three had been experiencing… growing pains.
All three genin were capable, but Kagero and Kaida seemed to be butting heads more often than not—mostly, in Taka’s observation, because Kagero was very certain that his thinking was the only correct way of thinking, and Kaida had little patience for entertaining him. He had just been trying to take them through performing a basic group combat strategy that he had found useful as a genin, but it had quickly devolved into nonsense, and at one point Taka had caught himself speaking so sternly that he actually raised his voice.
Guilt dogged at his heels; he kept playing the morning’s training session over and over in his mind, trying in vain to pinpoint what exactly had gone wrong, and where and how and why. That they’d missed lunch was something that never even crossed his mind; Taka skipped meals all the time, to the point that he rarely felt hungry unless he’d gone a day or more without eating. Scheduled lunch time was a foreign concept to him, and it simply didn’t occur to him that the genin might have been hungry.
At the very least, he needed to apologize—to make it up to them somehow. There was no excuse for yelling at teenagers just doing their best. A sincere apology, maybe with a small gift of candy… perhaps that could be a decent start towards rebuilding some kind of trust.
Taka took his time looking at the selection the candy store had to offer, deep in thought considering what he knew about the three genin and their different tastes in sweets. Would Rikuto even like sweets? Kaida had an unapologetic sweet tooth while Kagero seemed to be in denial that he liked candy at all…
He caught a glimpse of golden hair out of the corner of his eye, and froze in place when he realized that Kagero had, in fact, just entered the exact same candy shop. Taka tried in vain to hide his small basket behind his back, and tried to gauge whether or not Kagero would want him to approach or not—if he was still frustrated about this morning’s training and would attempt to avoid him, or would be fine with a brief, informal run-in.
