"Thank you for your patience." Shō responded with a courteous bow, acknowledging his bandit allies before setting his plan into motion. As he focused his chakra and created a clone, he shared half of his chakra with it. In the process, a portion of chakra was lost and it was not recoverable, but it was a necessary cost for the versatile jutsu. This clone, in turn, would create the next clone, sparing the real Shō from depleting his chakra reserve.

With a light nod with each other, Shō and CloneShō #2 stealthily approached the village but not before the clone warped his face to the bandit’s elder whose face he had observed during their meeting earlier. It was a calculated move to infiltrate the village without raising suspicion. Upon reaching the village's entrance, Shō presented himself confidently. He announced his return and diplomatically requested a meeting with the village chief. CloneShō #2, with detailed disguise and securely bound with rope, stood beside him. This ruse provided them a legitimate reason for their presence.

Shō's intent was clear: to approach the chief discreetly and once the opportunity arises, they will apprehend the chief and bring him to the public for questioning. Hopefully, a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

There was a noticeable stir in the village, as Shō returned, with what seemed to be one of the bandits, bound and looking neutralized, in tow. A lot of whispers could be heard, as people watched the ninja and his captive, as he asked permission to speak to the village chief. Seeing the confidence with which he bore himself, few were willing to ask the shinobi any questions. Surely he had managed to vanquish the bandits and bring a satisfactory end to their thieving habits. One of the men who served as a guard of the village stepped forward, and asked Shō to come with him, even as he led the Chuunin to the house of the village chief.

The chief was indoors, and called in the Chuunin, dismissing the guard. Recognition appeared on his face when he saw the bound bandit, and he gave an exultant laugh. "That you have brought one of the miscreants bound is proof that you have accomplished the mission, isn't it?" he asked gleefully, rising from his seat. "Very good, very good. I shall see that this one gets his just desserts. But what of that brat, the most dangerous one of them all? And the fellow you took back into the forest, what happened to them? I'd like to know."

With some fatigue beginning to settle in from the earlier use of his techniques, Shō decided to forgo any formalities and pleasantries. "Thanks for making this easier." As the guards were dismissed, he acted swiftly, making a beeline for the village chief with the intent to incapacitate him. In a swift and precise move, he aimed to render the chief unconscious.

If his attempt succeeded, the clone that had taken on the guise of a bandit would immediately dispel its transformation technique and immediately cast a genjutsu. A nearly invisible chakra bubble would emanate from the spot, expanding gradually up to a radius of 20 metres. Anyone who entered this sphere would fall under the influence of the genjutsu. Under the influence of this illusion, anyone who entered the chakra bubble would perceive Shō and the chief in deep conversation at a table, completely unaware of the fact that the chief wascurrently unconscious. The clone maintained its focus, ensuring that every detail was flawless to the eyes. It struck the perfect balance, with just enough subtlety to make everything appear entirely normal and devoid of any signs of wrongdoing.

While the clone was busy maintaining the illusion, Shō would discreetly move the chief out of the room. As long as the guards remained within the genjutsu bubble, they would be unable to witness this. If Shō managed to slip away unnoticed, he would transport the chief to a different location for interrogation, utilizing the Truth Cursing Seal to compel the chief to answer questions. These inquiries would include confirming the truth of the rumours Shō had heard and learning about the chief's actions regarding the bandits. If the chief's responses aligned with what Shō had uncovered, he would then proceed to summon all the villagers to the village centre and simultaneously dispel the clone to alert Harusame.

The chief frowned in confusion, as Shō thanked him for 'making things easier'. The man's bemusement turned into alarm, though, as he noticed the Chuunin charging towards him. But before he could open his mouth to cry out, Shō had felled him. The clone creating the genjutsu served to ensure that no one else was any wiser, the misleading technique only showing what seemed to be the Chuunin and the village chief talking. With that well-thought plan having been executed, nobody even thought to be on the lookout for anyone sneaking, allowing the Kiri nin to escape with his real captive.

By the time the chief awakened, he would find himself with a strange seal on his neck, and the Kiri shinobi questioning him. At first, he was all threats and bluster, until he realized that he could not but answer the questions Shō was asking. And soon it was all revealed. Shō would, by asking leading questions, piece information together to learn the truth about the village.

Up until this time, it had been run as some kind of democracy, with a chief being voted for by the villagers, and elders voted as well to support the chief. It was a meritocracy as well; age or gender or whatever did not matter, as long as the candidate was perceived to be capable. In the last elections, the present chief was one of the candidates for the position. His major opponent was a younger woman who had married a wandering ninja who had been crippled in combat and needed a place to settle. While some had initially regarded the ninja with misgivings, he had eventually integrated into the village, and had had a son with his wife. When she stepped up to run for village chief, the old man had tried to discredit her by attempting a smear campaign against her husband. When that hadn't worked, he resorted to violence. Mostly due to the woman's unwillingness to respond with force, she had been ambushed and killed, and those associated with her forced to flee the village, while the chief had spread stories to cover up the real details of the woman's demise. With the forest being a hostile place, the chief had hoped it would be the death of the exiled ones, until they had started making raiding runs on the village in order to survive the harsh forest. And that was when Shō had been brought on to handle the matter.

It did not take long for the entire village to be gathered, although none knew what was going on. There were confused murmurs, and the village guards watched apprehensively, as they could not tell whether Shō was going to harm their chief, but none was willing to attempt to challenge him. The murmurs intensified when Harusame and his colleague suddenly showed up, and while the guards made some effort to brandish their weapons, no one really did anything.

All eyes were on the Chuunin and his captive.

Utilising the fuinjutsu exclusive to the hunter-nin, Shō skillfully extracted the truth from the chief. He stood resolutely beside the bound man, listening carefully to his confession. Nodding in acknowledgment, Shō appreciated the straightforwardness of the case. He had no desire for further complications or dilemmas. Addressing the chief in a composed tone, Shō laid out the procedures. "You will repeat exactly what you've just told me to the public. After that, I will turn you over to the authorities for further action."

Shō sat at the centre of the village with the chief tied up, and such a huge scene naturally attracted the entire villager to the central square. Shō waited for Harusame to arrive before commencing. "This is Harusame and he is..." he paused before continuing, "But that's not important right now. What matters is that the chief here has committed murder and wrongdoing, banishing villagers to seize power." Shō directed his attention to the chief and nudged him. "Thanks to my seal, he can only speak the truth. Now, tell them what you've done." The fuinjutsu was able to last a little longer, so there was no need for Shō to reapply it.

Once the truth laid bare, Shō would proceed to reconcile the villagers. "These villagers resorted to theft because they had been wronged and cast out by the chief. They had no other choice but to turn to banditry to survive in the wilderness. I hope you all can understand their circumstances and accept them back. In the meantime, I will deal with the lawbreaker." Shō believed that reconciliation should not be a significant issue since the bandits' crimes were limited to just theft. Typically, deep-seated animosities only brewed when bloodshed and death had occurred, which fortunately had not happened in this case. 「Thank goodness.」 He muttered to himself while waiting for the villagers to respond.

Even though the chief was quite unwilling to oblige the Kiri Chuunin, he had no choice, as he was under compulsion by the seal to respond truthfully when asked questions. So it was that when everyone had been assembled, he gave full tale of what had happened in the village, with a good number of people expressing surprise at the revelations. It turned out that with the exception of a few people, who had most likely been coerced into silence, most had thought that the bandits left of their own free will, because they had been displeased by the new leadership, and had sought to make life more difficult for the village by executing the attacks. Harusame and the other bandit silently watched and listened to the proceedings, though there was the sign of some hope in their eyes.

With the Kiri ninja's further suggestion of how he hoped things would be smoothed out, there were understandably a lot of uncertainties raised. But these folk had governed themselves more or less without the need of outside supervision, and it did not take long for the other elders of the village to bring some order to the confused mass. Eventually, a conclusion which Shō would likely be most pleased with was settled upon: the bandits would be called back, discussions would be made regarding their resettlement and possible compensation, although Harusame and his colleague just seemed more interested in returning home than remunerations.

With all that said and done, Harusame and the man who had spoken to Shō in secret, to reveal the crimes of the elder, approached the Chuunin. "You have our thanks for helping us heal the wounds in our village, ninja," the older man said. "Of course, some people are annoyed at having been robbed in the past, and no doubt some of the exiles will have hard feelings as well. But I'm sure we can work things out peaceably. There are after all, many who are friends and relatives of ours among the exiles." Harusame stepped forward. "We will never forget your kindness. But out of curiosity, what will happen to the old chief?"

The mission had reached its conclusion, and the truth was finally revealed. Initially, the people had been perplexed, but in the end, they made the decision to welcome back the banished and work together towards a brighter future. Witnessing this positive outcome, Shō let out a sigh of relief and allowed himself to finally relax.

As the crowd expressed their gratitude, Shō responded with a warm smile. It wasn't merely the satisfaction of completing his mission, but it was the genuine happiness he felt from making a positive contribution to the world and preserving peace. "It's my responsibility. I hope you can lead the village to a brighter future, and that everyone here can enjoy a better life."

When asked about the fate of the former chief, Shō replied while casting a stern glance at the still-bound elderly man, "That's not a decision I can make. I will hand him over to the authorities and report back to my village." He paused for a moment, then turned to Harusame, who had raised the question, and added, "But personally, I wouldn't object if he were imprisoned for life or given the death penalty. Such a vile criminal deserves severe consequences."

After restocking his provisions and taking a final look at the village, Shō bid Harusame farewell. "I look forward to my next visit." he said with a genuine smile, leaving the village behind, content with the good ending he had achieved.
