Sho would dispel the bunshin and apologize to the old man who would wave his hand around.

"Oh don't worry about it, it's past us now." He hummed, clearly a bit of a change of pace now that he was being listened to. He still looked quite grouchy as he moved now through the trees and away from Sho without warning. The Gure would have to follow along or be left behind. The man moved quite quickly and spryly for someone of his age and it was clear that he was either younger than he seemed or something was off. Though it did not give a particularly dangerous energy there was definitely something amiss or afoot.

In time, the old man stopped moving and turned to see if Sho was following along.

If he had been, he would pause and point.

"See there?"

It was a huge clearing, a field of grass beyond the forest and there were deer there. A lot of deer, an entire herd in fact.

"The one you seek is the king of them all, but to find the leader one must be patient and willing to risk it all." He motioned for Sho to step forward then, just ahead of himself so he could get a good look at the herd of deer beyond.

Would he pursue the herd to see if the white pelted one was there, or would he wait?

Shō shadowed the old man's movements as they ventured through the trees. While traversing the forest with agility wasn't unusual for a shinobi, witnessing an elderly man do the same raised suspicion in Shō's mind. The old man was certainly skilled in navigating the woodlands, suggesting he was at least a well trained shinobi or civilian. Despite the intrigue, Shō understood the importance of gathering concrete evidence before taking any further action. Engaging the old man without cause was certainly not an act he would take, and certainly not after knowing the mysterious man was not a simple old man.

Their journey abruptly halted, and Shō realised they had arrived at their destination. Before him lay a large field of green, teeming with deer leisurely grazing on the verdant grass. The sight was so beautiful it made him forget about whatever he was thinking before that. Acknowledging the old man's gesture to step forward, Shō advanced a few cautious paces to obtain a better view without disrupting the deer.

"First of all, thanks. Indeed, I'm searching for a rare deer." Shō responded quietly, his voice carrying a note of determination as he gazed at the graceful creatures in the field. "If it wasn’t within the herd, then I will wait as suggested." Shō was no stranger to the art of patience and persistence. As a hunter-nin, he had spent countless hours on surveillance missions, tracking his targets and waiting for the right time to make a move. He was not just a predator, but a hunter.

"Mmf," The man acknowledged and sat back. Now Sho got the chance to observe and indeed as he observed he would not really notice any stark white pelt...

Minutes would turn over and become hours, and the sun would begin to set. It would cast a golden glow over the area, and if Sho at any point turned he would notice that the old man was gone. Gone as he had come, completely from the area it seemed.

But it was in this golden hour that something fruitful might come from all of his endless staring at the herd in the clearing. A snap of dry twig beneath bony leg. And if Sho paid it any mind, he might see a flash of white in an otherwise golden woodland space.

Only a flash though and if he moved towards it, it would become even more fruitful, for he would lay his eyes upon the pale beast drinking from a trickling stream with large antlers and it seemed a slight bit of scarring along his body where the fur had grown back even more pale than everywhere else on his body.

What would Sho do now? Descend and attempt to collect a sample or would he attempt something else entirely?

As Shō patiently observed the deer herd, the sun began its descent, casting a warm golden hue over the clearing. He was so focused on his task that he barely noticed when the old man had vanished from the scene. "Will the white deer come soon?" Shō pondered to himself. He had intended to ask the mysterious man, but as he turned to find the stranger, he discovered the man had vanished just as abruptly as he had appeared.

Left to his own devices, Shō's attention was abruptly drawn to the light sound of a twig snapping from far away. In that short moment, he caught sight of something moving gracefully through the woods. While the figure remained somewhat obscured due to the distance, Shō's instincts propelled him forward, urging him to get a clearer view. Mindful of the deer's alertness to its surroundings, Shō decided to employ his kekkei genkai for a stealthy approach.

With a clap of hand (hand seal), he submerged into the ground and propelled himself towards the source of the sound with deliberate slowness, minimising any disturbance that might alert the vigilant deer. Though he navigated blindly while underground, his experience of the jutsu allowed him to approximate his location and trajectory based on feeling alone.

Eventually emerging from the earth, Shō concealed himself behind trees or bushes, carefully scrutinising the deer to ascertain whether it matched the elusive white specimen he sought.

The clap of the hands made the deer raise its head, ears pivoting around before he took a few steps in suspicion. No smells came immediately so for now he stood steady but if a smell came he was certain to make a run for it. But nothing came and it continued to stand there, taking a few steps forward to find some lush green to nibble on tearing at it quite deftly and expertly, a twig sticking out of its mouth as it chewed all the while Sho would make himself known from behind the stag who kept on chewing.

At this proximity Sho would be able to tell that the deer was definitely the genuine article, but what would be the best way to approach it to try and get its pelt, even a small sample? That would be the real challenge, as the stag was rather vigilant and rumored to be quick to run if he saw or felt threatened. What would be Sho's decision with this beast? It was quite large too, which was probably doubly impressive as it was definitely bigger than a standard stag. It spoke of its age, and certainly the experience that it had in evading attackers and hunters.

After performing the jutsu, he then realised he should have been more cautious with it to avoid alerting the animal. Luckily the creature hadn't bolted away in response to the sound. "Phew... I'll keep this in mind for next time." he thought to himself. As he re-emerged from the ground, Shō couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement, before him stood the rare stag, the very creature he had been tirelessly searching for.

The magnificent creature left him momentarily stunned, but Shō swiftly regained his composure. Mindful of his mission, he delved into deep thought. Clarifying his objective became the immediate priority. "The pelt or some sample." he recalled, the Mizukage's words on the letter appeared in his mind. But as a nature lover, Shō naturally hated hunting. The notion of tearing off the fur of a still-living forest creature seemed outright monstrous to him. While he acknowledged that humans were part of natural order, he aimed to avoid such actions unless absolutely necessary.

His moral compass pushed him to seek a humane method of obtaining the animal pelt, though the path to achieving this remained unclear to him. With his objectives firmly in mind, Shō proceeded with the next steps. Although he lacked a clear plan for his ultimate goal, he decided to employ a method he was familiar with - tracking. Drawing from his training as a hunter-nin, Shō understood the importance of keeping tabs on his target, even if the course of action remained uncertain. "When in doubt, track them down."

Without wasting any more time, Shō ascended the nearest trees quietly. Aware of the deer's keen senses, he aimed to avoid alerting the deer. Deer, with their swift speed, could easily outpace most humans when startled, making a quiet and undetected approach the best way to approach them. Once perched in a suitable position above, Shō began his vigilant tracking, maintaining silence and observing the deer from his elevated vantage point. He hoped that he could uncover the best course of action as time passed.

Sho would after viewing the deer ascend to a nearby tree, quietly and quickly. Once perched up in a good vantage point he set to tracking the stag. But the animal was not particularly interesting, he was like any other deer...

He would graze and move a few steps and if he heard a snap or a sound he would appear alert but otherwise with nothing in his line of sight would just go back to grazing. The deer on this island were quite lax it seemed, if only because nobody was around it seemed to regularly hunt them. They were still vigilant but by no means like some mainland deer.

This one was just special and perhaps was a leader of a herd, or *the* herd nearby.

The minutes would draw on until one hour passed and Sho would have literally moved maybe ten feet - if he chose - because the deer was still grazing in the same area, unbothered by anything and completely settled in to this area. It seemed the grass or the moss were good here, and it seemed he had also nibbled on some mushrooms while they were there.

On one occasion the stag had even sipped from the nearby stream, but otherwise? Nothing interesting.

What would Sho do?

Silent hours had slipped away, and Shō found himself in the same position, approximately ten metres from the deer. While hunter-nin was renowned for their patience, time constraints pressured him to explore alternatives as he had to report the mission's progress back to the Mizukage. A quest for a new approach tickled his thoughts, what strategy could expedite success?

A sigh of disappointment escaped his mouth, then he descended from the tree, advancing quietly toward the deer. As if conversing with an old friend, he gently spoke to the creature, "Hello. Hmm… I would like to have a patch of your fur, for science." The unconventional dialogue, an attempt to communicate with the animal who didn't understand human language, seemed like a stupid move. Yet, Shō had his fill of drawing blood. The desire to avoid further harm lingered in his thoughts.

An alternate path tugged at the edges of his consciousness. A future as a researcher in Kirigakure Kamenoko Mamori, where he could indulge in scientific pursuits and immerse himself in the wonders of nature. He wished to see his dream realising someday. For now, however, the immediate task needed his utmost attention. A gentle approach to the deer, a plea for cooperation, hinted that Shō wasn't a hunter.

The prospect of the creature fleeing was still very high though. Should the deer bolt, Shō would go on a pursuit, ready to navigate the forest in an attempt to uncover the secrets of this elusive, rare creature. Even if he failed the mission, at the very least he could return with some information to the Mizukage.

The deer pivoted towards Sho, alert and before Sho could get much closer the deer jumped towards a hill as if he were an angel of sorts, not bound by the laws of physic. There a golden light bathed over his beautiful ivory pelt, he was glistening there on that hill and a deep voice struck through the forest, echoing, making the woods tremor.

"It is the journey, not the destination." It was a bit of a distorted sound too, as if spirits themselves were speaking to Sho in that moment, a mystery in nature.

"Your patience and kindness has brought you here, but I part with you here, so that you may find the balance to all that kindness in you. Return home and share your newfound wisdom. Never forget me."

Once the booming voice was gone, there was a blinding flash of light so bright that it would force Sho to close his eyes or completely look away. Once the flash was gone, there would be no buck and no deer, gone with the light it seemed. In its place, something was there on the hill - an antler and some fur.

When Sho went to inspect it that is when the boy would hear grumbling behind himself.

"I completely lost track of you, boy, where did you go all this time?" He huffed.

The strange old man had returned and he looked grumpy.

Everything felt like a dream to Shō, bewilderingly beautiful and elegant. The encounter with the mystical deer and the resonating voice had left him in a state of awe and wonder. Those were feelings and emotions he couldn’t simply describe in words alone. He stood frozen, still mesmerised by the surreal phenomenon until an old man's grumbling voice pierced through the silence, pulling him back to his senses.

The old man had returned, seemingly out of nowhere. "Eh? I went missing?" Shō was left confused by the inquiry about his whereabouts and he started to wonder if he was dreaming or perhaps hallucinating, and if somehow he had become separated from the old man. His doubts over the reality was shattered when he noticed tangible evidence lying on the hill; some furs and a katana resembling an antler bone.

"So I wasn't dreaming..." Shō muttered to himself. While his doubts were erased, he could barely keep his curiosity down. His heart now craved the allure of the mystery, and he couldn't resist the pull to explore and uncover more of the secret around him.

He then shared his extraordinary experience with the old man, seeking some explanation from him if possible, before heading back to Kirigakure, as he was compelled to report back to the Mizukage. Despite the weariness from the mission, while on the ship, he spent the entire night documenting his extraordinary experience on the letter which he intended to deliver to his lord upon returning. Alongside his encounter, he wrote an appeal to join Kamenoko Mamori, expressing his newfound desire to delve into the mysteries of the world.
