[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Sūkikyō was running through the Village at full speed, as always. He was excited about today, because today he was going to learn how to walk up vertical surfaces. He could climb up to most places easily enough. But the ability to simply walk up the wall or tree would make things so much easier. So he was determined to learn the jutsu that would grant him that skill. He had decided that he wasn’t going home today until he could hang upside down from a tree branch by nothing but the soles of his feet.

Normally, he would head to the training grounds for his activity. They were usually bustling at this time of day with shinobi of all ages working out to improve their skills. But Sūkikyō’s destination was different today. Today, he was heading past the training grounds and towards the park.

It was the only place in the Village with trees big enough for his purposes. Sure, the grounds had poles he could use, but he wanted to learn Tree Walking on actual trees. So he was going to forgo showing off his skills to the other shinobi so he could do it properly.

Once he arrived at the park, he slowed his running down to a slow jog. He took in the green of the area, which was pretty foreign in Iwagakure. Now he just needed to find the perfect tree for his purposes.

Sūkikyō didn’t need to look far. He found a big old tree right on the edge of the water. It was super tall, with branches that extended out over the water. Perfect for if he fell from the tree while trying out the jutsu, he would just land right in the water. Not that he was gonna fall while trying out the jutsu. He was too skilled for that, right?

Right.

So he kicked off his sandals, he had heard that it was easier to learn without shoes, and approached the tree. And then paused. He had no idea how to start. Perhaps he should have asked one of the sensei’s for advice before jumping in, because he had no clue where to go from here.

As a member of the Yutakako Clan, Sūkikyō was born with the ability to combine Katon and Raiton into the explosive element, Bakuton. He's not very precise with his explosions, but they don't lack in power, able to destroy with ease when the boy wants to. He's not a master, but he's rather talented at utilizing the kekkei genkai. Sūkikyō's trained with Bakuton from a very young age and has learned to use it in tandem with his favored taijutsu.

『Speed Demon』

Speed is not an issue for this rambunctious boy. Sūkikyō's speed is nothing to be taken lightly, he has pushed himself physically to be able to outpace opponents. The boy is quick and agile, easily outpacing his peers. Many people have trouble keeping track of Sūkikyō’s movements, as they are ridiculously quick for someone of his age.

Ryo glided somewhat lazily on the thermal updrafts rising from the city of Iwagakure, shar eyes picking through different details of the city as she does. It was easy work, though it wasn’t really work. Ryoko was just nosey. Always on the look out for action or drama. She could see most of the city from way up there, though she couldn’t focus on it all at once. Thankfully she could keep an eye out for odd action.

Smoke or explosions were easy to spot, as would jutsu being used. Large crowds tended to blend together, but individuals moving through the crowd more directly tended to stand out. Let along if they’re running as fast as they can.

Motion catches her eyes as a child below just absolutely tears across the landscape. She tips her wings aside a little and changes her trajectory, better lining up with Sukikiyo’s rapid and zigzagging path through the city. She couldn’t help but laugh to herself, in her mind. It was hard to actually laugh in the shape she had chosen. A small hawk, a common enough choice for her, and as she follows she circles some.

Her interest grows as the youth sprints towards the training grounds, her head tipping and wings tucking to let her dive lower. She’s somewhat disappointed when he skips past them, but she follows him out into the woods to see what the little kid was up to. Probably mischief.

Ryoko was a big fan of mischief.

She keeps pace above the trees, waiting until he has finally picked a spot before coming to flutter down into one of the tree’s branches. The hawk peers down at the young human, her head tipping aside curiously as beady eyes study him a little closer, still curious what he was doing.

Was he a shinobi? Just a kid out in the park? She couldn’t spot a headband right away, so she just sits there and watches and waits for the kid to do something. ‘Do something!’ she’d shout, though since she was a bird it just comes out as "Caw!”

SA: Expert Shapeshifter

Due to constant practice with the true transformation jutsu, as well as pushing herself to use it for long durations, Ryoko has become as natural at holding an animal shape as she is walking on ceilings. Her deeper understanding of this jutsu, paired with her exceptional chakra control, allow her to maintain the jutsu with only a very low amount of chakra. The cost for the initial transformation remains unaffected.

DESCRIPTION:

After four hand-seals, the user is capable of transforming themselves either into a person or animal, as long as the creature is less than 10 meters tall. Unlike regular henge, this technique allows the user to completely take on the characteristics of the said animal, though they lose their ability to perform jutsu while transformed. They're also capable of holding the form in battle, even after taking considerable damage, though the more damage they take the more taxing the technique becomes.



Damage is retained between both forms, so a broken arm in one's original form would make it impossible to fly if you transformed into a bird; and any damage taken in their transformed state is retained when they return to their original form. If this jutsu is used to transform into someone with a higher rank, you're still limited by the physical capabilities of your rank and specs; this same rule doesn't hold when transforming into an animal that might have natural physicality beyond the user.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Standing in front of a tree with his shoes off, Sūkikyō had no clue where to go from this point. He was pretty sure it involved channeling chakra into his feet, but he was never the best at controlling where his chakra went. It usually just kinda...exploded out of him. Which was not what he wanted at this particular moment.

Kyō took a breath and approached the tree. He could do this, just try and hold back the explosion a bit and everything should be peachy keen. He lifted his foot, about to try and stick it to the bark when a loud bird cry sounded from up in the branches. It startled the boy, making him yelp out with a "Waugh!" and tumble backwards, windmilling his arms comically.

He stumbled back a few steps and tripped over his own sandals, landing on his rear with a thud. How embarrassing. Sūkikyō looked around to make sure no one saw the embarrassing moment, then looked up to glare at the bird. A small hawk was perched on the branches, looking down at him with beady eyes.

"What was that for, you dumb bird?" he asked, as he stood up and brushed the dirt from his shorts. Scooping up one of his discarded sandals and chucking it at the offending avian. "Go away, I’m trying to train!"

Oh, he was a shinobi! She figured he was with as fast as he was sprinting through the village. A genin, by the looks of things; though he could have been a very ambitious academy student. She watches the boy tumble without much judgment, noting how far up the tree he’d gotten and remaining silently pleased with herself that she’d thrown off his concentration.

"Caw” She says again as he gathers up a shoe. That’s cute, she thought, a sandal. She didn’t see much hope of the boy actually striking her from such a distance.

No sooner do the thoughts flitter through her mind than a shoe lands rather square in the hawk’s face with a satisfying thwack. It just sort of hangs there for a moment, bird and shoe frozen in place until the jutsu is dispelled. A little burst of smoke erupts around her. It quickly disperses in the wind, revealing the oddly costumed chuunin crouching in its place, with a shoe stuck to the side of her head.

Big black button eyes stare down from the cowl she wears, a patchwork cloak of muted khakis and browns covering her from shoulders to past her knees. She was an odd sight, though not an unknown one, and rather infamous for the over-large four pointed shuriken always found floating behind her. It was there now, lurking ever dangerously behind the girl. Of her actual face, only her mouth remains visible, and as the shoe falls off her head her lips turn some to an amused smirk.

"Hey kid, you got a pretty good arm.” she calls out down towards the genin. She gives a subtle lift of her hand and his shoe stops falling and for a moment hangs motionless in the air. She gives a wiggle of her index finger and then points it at Kyo and the shoe floats faithfully back to its owner.

A moment later she takes a little step forward and hops out of the tree. She lands rather deftly on her feet, turning her attention to Kyo again as she rises.

"And you got a lot of spirit rushing right at a tree. Might as well be rushing at a wall, though. Walls are actually kinda easier, if I’m bein’ honest”, she mutters, not overly friendly but also not seeming to be holding a grudge about the shoe.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Sūkikyō most assuredly did not scream like some little Academy student when his sandal hit the bird, causing it to erupt in a cloud of smoke and revealing a girl in its place. That would be embarrassing.

Ha.

He didn’t know what to make of said girl. She was dressed in some weird-looking cowl that hid most of her face and had a wicked-looking giant shuriken strapped to her back. That was pretty cool. What was even cooler was how she returned his sandal to him, by making it literally levitate into his hands.

Then she complimented his throwing ability, making the young boy surge with pride. That was going onto his mental list of best things ever, having his skills praised by an older shinobi. At least, he assumed she was an older shinobi, he couldn’t really tell with the cowl. She was taller than him at least, which wasn’t saying much, most people were.

When she jumped out of the tree and walked towards him, he took a step back. A pout formed on his face at her advice, if one could call it that. He didn’t want to walk on walls, even if it was supposedly easier. "Maybe it’s easier, but I wanna learn on trees," he said. "It’s called Tree Walking, not Wall Walking."

In an effort to prove his point, Kyō stomped back over to the tree and slammed his foot against the bark. He didn’t look at the girl as he began to funnel chakra into his feet, willing it to stick to the surface. And as he lifted his other foot to join the first one, it did. He was overjoyed that it worked, so overjoyed that his focus slipped and his chakra did what it normally did and exploded forth, launching Sūkikyō from his perch.

He landed hard on his back, letting out a groan. "Son of a biscuit." Well, that didn’t work.

Ryoko follows along after the kid with a little smirk. She watches as he places a foot on the tree, and curses her utter lack of any chakra sensing abilities. It looked right, but she could only judge by the result. It wasn’t a bad attempt, she had to admit. Even with her keen chakra control, she’d spent a lot of time flailing about on her back trying to figure this jutsu out.

"Yeah yeah, probably wanna be a jonin too, and get out of the village. Stab some people, blow up their houses steal their toys.. Do generally ninja type things, right?”,  she asks, snickering rather derisively. "Good thoughts for some kid, but if you wanna be a ninja you gotta learn the real important stuff. Like cheating.”

She gives a small nod after the word cheating, ever a fan of thwarting rules and expectations. "They call it tree walking, sure, but like. I use it on walls a lot more.  And doing it the hard way is for suckers.  No one ever does it like that.”

She laughs again as she places a foot on the tree, then takes a step upwards. She sticks out perpendicular to the tree and shakes her head. "Like, never. Like all that math they said I’d need. Never do this. It’s funny I guess, but like..” She mutters, trailing off as she leaps upwards some. She bounds from the trunk to the branch above, but instead of the top she sticks to the bottom.  "..upside down is more fun.

"Sides..   Ya gonna take the hard way when you’re surrounded by people tryin’ to kill ya? Gonna take the hard way when you’re fightin’ in the chuunin exams?” She cackles a little at the last part, then snorts quietly. "Pointless, like saving a chicken.

She crosses her arms under her chest as she peers.. down? at Kyo. Upside-down as she was she was craning her neck to look up, but the bulk of her cloak was hanging upside down around her, exposing her leggings and shorts, her pouches and flak jacket.

She really was a skinny shrimp of a thing for how big she talked.

"Gettin’ things done is what matters. And doing it in some way no one ever saw coming.. That’s how you be a shinobi.”

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]The boy let out a groan from his spot on the grass. His arms flopped to his sides as he lamented his failings. This was supposed to be an easy jutsu to learn, this was just ridiculous. Sūkikyō kicked at the ground in a small tantrum before rising up into a sitting position.

He pouted at the older girl as she listed off some actually good advice. Yeah, it made sense, to take the easy way to do things. Work smarter, not harder, and all that. And since she obviously already knew the jutsu, made obvious by hanging upside down from a tree, she probably knew best about how to make learning it easier.

"You may be right, but it’s too late to change my plans now," he said, still a little upset that he was admitting she had a point. But so did he. There were no walls in the park worth climbing and he didn’t want to walk all the way back to the training grounds. He was determined to tackle this thing today and he didn’t want to waste any time.

Kyō got back up to his feet and walked back over to the tree. Biting his tongue in concentration, he put his foot back on the trunk of the tree. He focused on the chakra, willing his foot to remain as he lifted his other foot to the trunk.

It stuck, like it did before, but this time he kept his celebration to a small internal cheer, focusing on keeping the chakra at his feet steady. So far, so good. He was horizontal now, muscles straining to keep him from flopping over. He lifted his first foot again, moving it up the tree trunk. Once he was sure it was secure, he followed with the other one, inching his way up slowly.

"I got this," he whispered to himself. "I got this."

But his concentration must have slipped or something because once he got to about halfway up the tree, his foot slipped over the round edge of the trunk. Kyō yelped and dropped like a bag of potatoes, hitting the ground hard. He groaned in pain and let out a curse of "Snickerdoodles," before getting to his feet.

"Speaking of cheating, got any hints on how this could go smoother?" he glanced up at Ryoko, wondering if the girl was just gonna hang around as he gave himself a bunch of new bruises, or perhaps give out some more advice.

”Alright, so don’t change your plans. Adapt them to what suits you. Or well, trust in your squad to help you with that. Guess for now, let’s pretend I’m on your squad. If you can’t break the rules, then change the playing field.”

She gives a small nod as she speaks, her words of criminal wisdom hinting only that she places little value on personal honor, and a lot more on getting the job done. She lifts her right hand again, the Shuriken that has been silently and obediently floating behind her suddenly springing to life.

She leans forward slightly as her little smirk grows, sweeping gestures of her arms suddenly setting the four foot X of sharpened steel to work. Without warning it begins to spin, whirring up to speed until it becomes little more than a dangerous circular blur of razor sharp edges. She gestures a hand forward and the Doomstar zips quickly away from her and towards another tree, the blade biting deep into the wooden trunk. In just a second she’s cut clear through the tree, and waits as the thing begins to fall.

It was a large tree with a thick and round trunk several feet across. It falls seemingly slowly, twisting off its stump before teetering to a side and then slowly keeling over. It lands amid the woods with a large cloud of dust and rush of wind, and a great crashing noise to fill the whole mountain top.

No sooner has it fallen than her giant shuriken retreats back to her. It takes up it’s position just behind her right her shoulder, and lingers there as the dust settles.

"Alright! Check this out!” She says, and leaps quickly foward. She lands on the now horizontal trunk of the tree and looks back over to Kyo.

"Behold, I am walking on a tree. Now hop up here with me.”

Keeping her balance was easy, but she knew well this would suit her purpose.  Also she got to break something!  Just a tree, maybe, but still something!

DESCRIPTION:
Though Shiso Ido is able to turn objects about and spin then as the user wishes, they can only do so, so fast. With this technique the user forces an object in their control to rotate faster and faster. Within a few moments a sword can be made to spin so fast it can appear little more than a blurry disc of cutting steel. Objects spinning as such are exceptionally dangerous, however in order to keep them spinning the user of shiso ido must continue to pay for both this jutsu and shiso ido itself each post. Once this jutsu ends, objects quickly return to a much less dangerous speed of rotation.

This jutsu does nothing to enhance an object's cutting power, however the speed which it spins the object increases its force. Bladed objects become like spinning saw blades, cutting easily through flesh and bone, even wood. If an item is strong enough it could even be used to cut through hardened stone and steel, though that would be a benefit from the object being moved, and not from this jutsu itself.

As he walked, Kyō couldn't help but think about the chuunin's words. Adapting plans to what suits you, trusting in your squad to help... Sūkikyō's trained with Bakuton from a very young age and has learned to use it in tandem with his favored taijutsu.

『Speed Demon』

Speed is not an issue for this rambunctious boy. Sūkikyō's speed is nothing to be taken lightly, he has pushed himself physically to be able to outpace opponents. The boy is quick and agile, easily outpacing his peers. Many people have trouble keeping track of Sūkikyō’s movements, as they are ridiculously quick for someone of his age.

"Ehh..” She grimaces a little at the kid’s question, though it shifts into her normal smirk quickly enough. Tricks? Where would she even begin. She stands up a little straighter and crosses her arms, both disappearing under her patchwork cloak.

"I mean.. I dunno, I got lots of tricks.” she mutters as she slides down the tree trunk. Letting gravity take her down some, her feet drag across the round trunk and for a moment it might look lke she was falling. Her feet catch however, the perfect amount of chakra to stop her motion tapers off into only what’s needed to let her stick.

She remains parallel to the ground, and only inches above it, sticking out perpendicular from the trunk of the tree and facing up towards the sky with her cloak resting mostly on the ground below her.

"S'really more about being tricky than it is having tricks. Not even like… smarter, just trickier. Imagination, ya know? Gotta be able to picture all sorts of crazy scenarios in your head. Be able to think up weird solutions for ‘em. Keep people guessing.

You ever play Janken?” She asks, and throws out a pair of fingers, both snipping together like a pair of scissors. "It’s really a lot like that. When it comes down to it, we’re all playing with the same basic tools.” She draws her hand back in and into a fist and gives it a small lift. She shakes it in the rhythm of rock paper scissors.

"You just gotta figure out ways to be trickier than your opponent.”

She shakes her fist the pair of times which were traditional before one chooses their weapon in Janken. As her hand rises for the last time however, the same pair of scissors she had thrown before flashes out with a pair of fingers at the height of her throw. They’re only there for a tick, a frame, only long enough to register subliminally in the mind before her hand comes down and flattens out into the universal Janken sign for paper.

"I mean, till you come across the people who really do things differently. Crazy eye people or bloodline abilities that you turn your whole body into fire. Those sort of people are the cheaters, so like. Figure something out. Pretend its a different game and stab em in the eye with your scissors.”

The tiny chuunin can’t help but snicker some as he says it all made sense.

"Yeah yeah, I’m sure you coulda. Just woulda been more annoying. Bashing your head against a rock usually gets results, but the headache ain’t worth it when you can find a better way.”

Ryoko smirks some as she mutters and gives a slightly dismissive wave to the tree she’d fell just for a lesson. She continues to float there mystically, levitating in place as she rambles on about what things she had learned being wild.

"This is all good practice and all, but what you really need is experience out in the field. Get some work done, do a mission or two. Go get up in some jerk’s face and let em know Iwa ain’t the place for their kinda nonsense.

I dunno, or chase a chicken around. I did that one, that was annoying.” She offers a sage nod, not one to underestimate the humble chicken ever since.

"I dunno, you wanna try one? Marketplace in Iwa is always just lousy with thieves trying to take people’s money, or filch things from the shops. It’s pretty bad for business, but more importantly, like.. It’s a good place to learn some new ways of thinking.”

She eyes the genin for any amount of excitement at getting out on a mission. Ryoko loved em.

"And hey, you’ll also be saving some of the civilians around town the annoyance of being having their stuff taken.”
