By then, the scrolls had already been hidden away on his person. Shigeru had shown him how to do it. Before the thought of his older brother had flitted off somewhere, there was a hand tousling the hairdo that was as serious as the look on his face. A do like that took time.

Osoi was quick to bat away the hand, but not quick enough to save his hair. Still, he smoothed it back down as best he could. Couldn’t very well show up in front of the Daimyo looking like... well, like he usually did. Never mind the fact that he was deluded enough to think that someone as lowly as him would ever set foot in the same building as the Lightning Daimyo. "I know,” replied Osoi, his severity hiding something, other than grumpiness.

Shigeru had picked up on that something, even though he didn’t know what that something was. Or maybe he did, this was Sugiyama Shigeru, after all. Rather than pulling at that thread, as most would do, Osoi’s older brother decided to leave it to unravel on its own. He’d decided that the most he could do for his bogged-down little brother was to keep him company through the village gates and all the way down the mountain.

Before Osoi could mutter something that sounded like ‘thanks’, Shigeru was gone. Osoi suspected that, this time, Shigeru would not be showing up out of nowhere to save his neck. Not that that happened very often. He was on his own, and he had a mission. Cheer up. Yeah...
