academy structure

On average, an academy student in Kumogakure will go through a three-year program, which may be extended or shortened depending on the age and experience of the individual academy student. Children have their general education of reading, writing, mathematics, and history taught to them in addition to their shinobi education, extending their time in the academy by up to as many as five years, while adult learners will progress much more quickly under the assumption that they have already received a general education.

Classes are composed of about ten to fifteen students of peers in their age group and will remain in one classroom while instructors cycle out throughout the day.

Several weeks per year are dedicated to learning about the functions of more esoteric teachings like medical ninjutsu and puppetry, which many shinobi do not have the desire or aptitude to study, but which is necessary to know the workings of regardless.

Kumogakure culture prioritizes hands-on learning. While in-classroom study and rote memorization have their place, the general understanding is that the best way to learn is through incessant practice. Students learn through experience: they practice techniques, have techniques practiced on them, embark on field trips for survival training, and go through mock missions to simulate what they might expect to experience as a genin.


instructors & exams

Shinobi who are assigned to the position of Academy Instructor tend to be generalists: regardless of their preferences in their personal studies, they have a well-rounded understanding of techniques of all ninjutsu disciplines, and are able to teach general education as well as shinobi arts.

Chuunin+ shinobi who are skilled in a particular field are often invited to guest-teach at the academy in order to demonstrate advanced concepts of their chosen fields. A genjutsu specialist might come in for a lecture on how to identify different kinds of genjutsu triggers, or a puppeteer may conduct a sparring lesson in order for students to gain experience in combating puppets. [This allows for PC non-instructor chuunin+ to help participate in educating PC academy students within the academy structure, if desired.]

Academy graduation exams are practical and thorough. Students will be expected to spend three days in the Valley of Lightning and accomplish a simulated C-rank mission objective. Students may embark on this practical exam solo or with teammates. Students are consistently supervised throughout their exam and will be pulled out if their lives are in significant danger at any point.

general information

The Shinobi Academy of Kumogakure hosts a number of instructors of different ranks, backgrounds, talents, and specializations. They often offer extracurricular lessons for shinobi hoping to improve certain skillsets, and are always happy to assist individual students achieve their educations goals.

NPC information and lesson premises are intended to be used as prompts for threads that can be used as evidence towards Special Abilities or Promotion Appeals. All lessons can also be used as evidence towards chakra control or chakra reserves SAs, depending on the student's conduct throughout the lesson. For example, a student in Akane's Handseal lesson might consciously manipulate their chakra flow while forming handseals to train their chakra control; a student running Hiroto's obstacle course might expel excess chakra throughout the lesson in order to deepen the wells of the chakra reserves.

NPCs are also available for training E-rank, D-rank, and C-rank techniques of any specialization, as well as B-rank and A-rank techniques within their specializations. NPCs with clan affiliations have access to their clan's KKG/HJ abilities and are able to assist in training those as well, if applicable.

Though intended for use by academy students, shinobi of all ranks are welcome to engage in these lessons, with the intensity and stakes scaling appropriate to the shinobi's rank.

fujiyama akane's
many-handed handseals



A chuunin generalist of the Fujiyama and Oorigami clans.

Compete with Akane's many Oorigami arms to perform all twelve basic handseals forwards, backwards, one-handed, and as fast as possible. While racing against her handseal speed, she will be darting about the training yard flinging projectiles or engaging in melee combat in order to keep the trainee moving and under pressure.

Can be used to train: Enhanced Reflexes, Enhanced Handseal Speed, One-Handed Seals, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


shitai tomoko's potions class



Also known as Mama Shitai, a jounin medic sole of the Fujiyama and Shitai clans.

Under Tomoko's supervision, create and deploy poisons on helpful volunteers in order to understand crafting processes and various effects. Can be used to train: Poison Proficiency, Medical Knowledge, Plant Cultivation, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.

Alternately, helpfully volunteer to be the target of poison deployment in order to experience their effects and learn how to train and fight while debilitated. Can be used to train: Poison Resistance, Enhanced Durability, Enhanced Endurance, Pain Tolerance, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.

The effect of the poison used depends on the rank of PC being trained. Academy students use poisons of E-rank or lower; Genin D to C -rank; Chuunin C to B-rank; Special Jounin B to A-rank; Jounin A to S-rank. Poisons are never fatal and appropriate treatment will be administered as soon as is necessary.


omori kenta's minesweeper seals



A sp. jounin fuin primary, buki secondary of the Omori clan.

Practice writing seals with Kenta in order to perfect the intricate kanji required for many fuinjutsu techniques, then play a game of fuinjutsu minesweeper in which the "safe" seals must be detected and broken (releasing candies or other small rewards), while the "hot" seals must be avoided lest you set off a dangerous trap!

Can be used to train: Enhanced Fuin Seal Speed, Enhanced Perception, Sensory Awareness, Enhanced Reflexes, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


mageruhi hiroto's
rainbow ninja warrior



A jounin nin sole of the Mageruhi clan.

As multicolored lights shift through a rainbow spectrum overhead, work your way through Hiroto's obstacle course of high walls, greasy inclines, monkey bars, and other environmental interruptions, while also taking out five training dummies within the time limit.

Mageruhi trainees may assist in creating the obstacle course through use of their unique light ninjutsu, while also learning to endure the emotional shift that comes with cycling through different colors.

Can be used to train: Enhanced Speed, Strength, or Reflexes; Enhanced Taijutsu or Bukijutsu; other physical enhancements or SAs appropriate to your specialization or fighting style; or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


jokyu kenichi's
overnight hunting trip



A chuunin buki primary, nin secondary of the Jokyu clan. A capable sensor shinobi.

Embark on a one-week trip into the wilds of Kaminari no Kuni with Kenichi to hunt for wild game. Survival and stealth are key: practice navigation, tracking techniques, camping, and finally finding and killing your prey.

Can be used to train: Sensory, Perception, Stealth, Accuracy, Visual Acuity, or a variety of physical enhancements; or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


Tetsumaki Takashi's Triage by Fire



A jounin med primary, ninjutsu secondary of the Tetsumaki clan.

Accompany Takashi on a late-night shift in one of Kumogakure's urgent care facilities. Check in patients over the course of the night, evaluate their symptoms, and determine how urgent their need for care is; perform basic first aid when possible, direct to more experienced medics when not.

Alternately, enter one of Kumogakure's urgent care facilities on a "training night" with a mild to moderate injury and allow a trainee to perform basic medical care for you.

Can be used to train: Medical Knowledge, if the trainee is practicing medical care.
If the trainee is receiving medical care, can be used to train: Pain Tolerance, Enhanced Endurance, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


Murahira Mayumi's Interrogatorture



A sp. jounin generalist of the Murahira clan.

Under Mayumi's supervision, practice interrogation techniques on helpful volunteers in order to understand how to effectively deploy genjutsu, poisons, or pain in order to elicit information from a victim.

Alternately, helpfully volunteer to be a victim of interrogation, and strive to keep a secret that Mayumi tells you (such as her favorite color, or what kinds of socks she likes to wear to bed) while undergoing interrogation techniques.

Can be used to train: Genjutsu Proficiency, Layered or Lingering Genjutsu, Poison Proficiency, Medical [Anatomy] Knowledge, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.
If the trainee is the victim of interrogation, can be used to train: Enhanced Genjutsu Kai, Poison Resistance, Enhanced Durability or Endurance, Pain Tolerance, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


Kyuumu Tsubasa's Strength in Numbers



A chuunin genjutsu primary, ninjutsu secondary of the Kyuumu clan. A proficient summoner.

Enter a simulated combat scenario against Tsubasa, two of his shadow clones, and his crow summons. Control of the battlefield will be key when at a numerical disadvantage, so emphasis will be placed on use of genjutsu, ninjutsu terrain alteration techniques, or employing summons or familiars to aid in the skirmish.

Can be used to train: Improved Summoning, Genjutsu Proficiency, Enhanced Genjutsu Kai, Enhanced Ninjutsu, Tactical Knowledge, Intelligence, Improved Familiars, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


Yanki Yuto's Thunderdome Clean-Up



A chuunin bukijutsu primary, medical secondary of the Yanki clan. A frequent proctor of Thunderdome fights.

Assist Yuto in maintaining the cleanliness of the Thunderdome and the health of its fighters in a Friday night fight fest. Medical ninjutsu and first aid can be deployed to heal fighters; if not medically proficient, the trainee will be put to work cleaning and staging the ring in between fights, and will be under the effects of the Yanki clan's augmentation jutsu the entire time.

Can be used to train: Medical Knowledge, Perception, Enhanced Endurance or Durability, Pain Tolerance, or whatever feels appropriate to the premise.


yamamoto misaki's escape room



A jounin ninjutsu primary, fuin secondary of the Yamamoto clan. A capable sensor shinobi.

Enter Misaki's pitch-black underground room and solve an elaborate puzzle in order to escape. Time is of the essence, so quick thinking is important to this exercise: poison gas will slowly fill the room until the puzzle is solved.

Can be used to train: Intelligence, Sensory, Perception, Poison Resistance, Pain Tolerance, or a variety of potential physical and mental enhancements depending on the nature of the puzzle.


fujiyama hiroshi's charity day



A chuunin-grade tai sole Envoy of Hotei.

Assist a holy man as he goes about his charity work for the day: engaging in grueling manual labor in order to assist those less fortunate. Though Hiroshi has his Helping Hands, the trainee may not have access to Hotei's gifts, and will have to find more creative ways to accomplish tasks such as laundry, cleaning, construction, performing deliveries, or other such tasks.

Can be used to train: Religious Abilities as well as various physical and mental enhancements, depending on the nature of the tasks involved.


jokyu mai's
performance of a couple of puppets



A chuunin puppet primary, genjutsu secondary of the Jokyu clan.

Mai is putting on a puppet show for a small local festival and needs a helping hand. Puppeteers may assist in her performance by manipulating some of the puppet(s) in the performance, engaging the children in epic storytelling and dramatic feats of puppet combat. If the trainee is not a puppeteer, they may still assist as an on-stage live actor, sparring against Mai's puppets while putting on a good show and a convincing performance for the kids.

Can be used to train: Puppetry SAs if helping Mai with the performance via puppet control, or various physical or combat enhancements if sparring and performing on stage alongside the puppets.
