[Mayonaka Homare]

Homare takes in the information about the clan's poison, and finds it particularly interesting that Shizuka doesn't seem to want to make her poison quite so deadly, for the sole reason that she might rely entirely upon her poison and lose out any time she's in combat with somebody that can't be poisoned or is otherwise unaffected by poison. The Mayonaka Genin thinks about that for a moment, feeling glad that she's got six arms suddenly. It means that she doesn't have to rely on weaponry or Ninjutsu entirely, and she can in fact utilize both simultaneously for a maximized benefit of both methods of combat. Her thoughtful reverie is interrupted by Shizuka mentioning the fact that she'd just cut a dummy with live steel, and she gives her a frown at the admonishment.

"It's the same as the punishment for suggesting such an action to another student. Thankfully, neither of us are in the Academy, so the punishments are moot, Mis- er, Haya."

She watches as Shizuka puts away the dummy weapons, not realizing that she's left behind her own money and a note of apology in the shed, and she wads up some of her own meager money, firmly lodging it into the split she'd left in the dummy's body, too high up for most of the youngest students to reach, and jammed too deeply for the older students to be able to tug out of it. It would require an adult to be able to pull the money from that crevasse, but it should be enough to pay for the training dummy repairs.

Homare is surprised at Shizuka now once again bringing up the idea of net-crafting, which is a very odd thing to want to see her do, especially a set of net with web that's tough, but not sticky. She frowns at this one, as she only knows for certain that she's able to make sticky web. She has no idea how to make any other kind. And it's an extremely strange request besides, particularly because...

"Web that's tough but not sticky won't be able to hold a person nearly so well. The stickiness ensures that someone that's stuck gets very stuck, and escape attempts will only end up with them becoming even more entangled with the web. Why would I never feel the need to make a web net that's tough, but not sticky, Haya?"

"Ah, but if the net's too sticky then I wouldn't be able to use it! And you wouldn't believe how expensive nets are nowadays. If you could make a really big one, that'd be best - sewing together a bunch of smaller nets is such a pain. I bet if it was big enough I could catch a whole school of fish!" Eyes still sparkling, Shizuka made a gesture with her hands suggesting just how many fish she could catch with one of Homare's nets. Then she remembered who she was speaking to, and tried to change her approach. She cleared her throat with a cough, subduing her excitement for a moment.

"And bad guys. Especially fishy ones. Nets work best against those." She nodded, as if her joke was simply common knowledge. "You know, when someone thinks of the Mayonaka clan, they think of gigantic indestructible nets of webbing. It's only right to meet their expectations." Of course, those expectations were mostly her own.

Her suggestions weren't entirely for her own interests. Shizuka genuinely believed that nets were one of the most useful applications of Mayonaka clan ninjutsu. Doubly so if she could use them herself. Plus, if Homare could restrict and seal enemies, the flexibility of their teamwork would increase. Shizuka held high expectations for Homare precisely because of how powerful their combination could become.

"So, are you going to make a net for me, like you promised, or will you keep stalling? This is supposed to be training, remember?"

Homare stares blankly right at Shizuka when she suggests that her teammate should be making a net for her to catch fish, even if it would be a whole school of them. She's clearly not particularly impressed by the wordplay, either, and she's not wholly certain that a net would work best against them, especially since the stickiness would only aid in making it even harder for bad guys to run away, since their limbs would end up sticking together in awkward ways that would make escape particularly difficult, even if they did manage to escape the initial capture attempt. Even the statement that people think of "gigantic indestructible nets of webbing" is dubious, at best. When someone thinks of the Mayonaka clan, they're more likely to think of bandits, mass murderers, and at best, thieves.

That said, she considers the options for making a particularly strong web. She knows how to make web, but she's not sure she can avoid making it sticky, as that's simply what the Mayonaka web is. Her left eye twitches a little when Shizuka suggests that she had somehow "promised" to make a net for her, and even suggests that she might be stalling their training.

In response to this, she brings her fingertips together, then spreads them apart while she's forming the threads of spider silk from her chakra, forming them into tough rope-like structures as she pulls them apart, then weaving more spider silk between the different threads until it becomes a tightly-woven mesh net, one with holes large enough to let particularly small fish through, but would capture larger fish. After all, she assumes Shizuka doesn't really want to catch minnows in addition to the more sizeable catch. It would also cut down on the weight of the net, even when it's filled with fish. Once she's done, she tosses it to Shizuka, giving her a rare smile.

"There, as promised..."

Of course, she hadn't bothered making sure it wouldn't be sticky, as she was fairly certain such a thing wasn't possible, at least at this level of skill she had. In all likelihood, an attempt to catch the net would only end up with Shizuka caught in the web net herself, and entangling herself in it over time simply by trying to pull it off of herself. Homare, on the other hand, has pulled her axe back out, carefully sharpening and cleaning it.

Shizuka was excited when Homare finally set herself to work. Rather than producing a completed net all at once, her teammate wove it strand by strand. It was an involved process, which demanded great skill and knowledge. Homare's craft was not perfect, but it was also not sloppy. Despite her inexperience, she worked with remarkable care, and precise, deliberate motions. Shizuka was especially curious as to how the silk strands bonded together, allowing Homare to skip the most challenging steps of tying knots.

Homare's smile should have been an indication of danger. Shizuka had just spent the last few minutes annoying her, and as fun as it was teasing out her reactions, it was only a matter of time before Homare responded in kind. Shizuka even noticed how the strands glued together, which she could have guessed was due to their stickiness. She couldn't help but let her guard down, though, mirroring Homare's smile when the net was completed and tossed to her.

Shizuka caught it by its center with an outstretched arm. It was fairly large - enough to capture a small person - and while many of the openings were of different sizes, its quality overall was no less than what she might typically cast into the river during a good season. She said as much right away...

"Wooow~ this looks perfect, is it really your-" ...and cut herself off when she realized her predicament. Having caught the net by its center, Shizuka managed to snare herself completely. It was draped over her head, and trapped both of her hands when she brought it closer to her face to inspect. When she tried to push the net away, it stuck on her clothes and could not be escaped.

"Erm... Homare-san, there seems to be a mistake," Shizuka said, returning to honorifics in her hopeless plea for help. "I don't think I'll be able to use this net at all."

She began to worry a bit when Homare relaxed and started cleaning her axe, probably savoring her 'victory'.

"Uhm... help?"

Homare seems perfectly content to keep cleaning and then sharpening her axe while the panic starts to set in for her teammate, especially as she complains that she's made some mistake with making the net, but when she does finally actually ask for help, the Genin lets out a long-suffering sigh before turning back around to face her teammate again, swinging the shinobi axe downwards to cause it to extend to its full length before she brandishes it more like a weapon.

"Very well, Miss Shizuka. Stay still."

With that order given, the Mayonaka quickly gets to work by cutting away only the sticky strands that were connecting the weave together, and thus trapping her limbs and head with her clothes. While it wouldn't immediately free her, it would absolutely make it easier for Homare herself to be able to clean away the sticky webbing from her fellow Genin. She gets to work doing just that, using her hands to delicately remove the substance from Shizuka's hair, clothes, and skin all at once. The job is done quickly, thanks in no small part to the fact that she has six arms working in perfect tandem to pull away the web netting and freeing her peer. As she works, she balls up the net so as to make sure it doesn't get stuck anywhere else. Although her own skin can't stick to the web she herself makes, it's somewhat tedious to get it unstuck, so rolling it into a ball just makes the job that much easier by not allowing it to stick anywhere else while she fixes the mess.

"You should not ask for such things so lightly, Miss Shizuka. And you should particularly know how to ask for things... Making demands will get you little sympathy from others, as you now clearly know."

With her job done, Homare holds the small webbed ball in her right hand, no larger than a softball they used to play with using sticks back in the Academy days. She could likely toss it into water, and the sticky mess would gradually disintegrate without causing any further damage, and the fish would even probably eat it, as long as they don't get stuck to the gunk.

"As for the net idea... I'll consider it, but it's not possible to make such a net without it being sticky, as it was when I threw it at you. Without the stickiness, the webbing would fall apart on its own."
