CONSEQUENCES BE DAMNED Only six months had passed since Mikio was formally transferred to Amegakure. The time had passed in the blink of an eye—there was so much to see and do in her new home, and her everyday duties kept her so occupied that by the time her scheduled week of leave was upon her she had absolutely forgotten that it was happening at all. She’d walked into the academy only to be met with a blank stare from her senior sensei, who told her, "Mimi, you’re on leave! Go home!” So home she went. She packed a bag and gathered her kitties and wrote a note to Taro so that he wouldn’t wonder where she’d gone, and then she left for Tsuchi no Kuni, some unnamable emotion twisting in her heart and mind. It took two days to actually get to Iwagakure by foot and it would take her two days to return back to Amegakure, plus she liked having a rest day at the end of her leave, so all in all her "week of leave” would amount to only two days back in her hometown… but she found herself oddly not disappointed by the thought. Traveling with the kitties was always fun, and a short trip sounded less… intense. She got some odd looks after checking in at the village gates, with her Amegakure hitai-ate still worn comfortably atop her head, but her paperwork checked out and she was allowed in without issue. The streets were familiar but not—some of the businesses had changed, and though she knew the way to the Nekomata clan compound backwards with her eyes closed, some of the sights she’d grown used to seeing were different now. Mikio sighed, resigning herself to making her way back to her parent’s home as her first stop—but then she caught sight of a tell-tale flash of white hair. A sparkle gleamed in her golden eyes. She whipped through ten handseals, merged with Azuki, and hurled herself in a dead sprint to bodily tackle her victim on sight, yowling a passionate "ZUZU-KO!!!!!” as she blitzed to take her beloved cousin fully into the dirt. Like usual when something odd happens, the silver-haired neko was minding his own business, moving about the village performing his daily rituals. Today he had just finished his jog, a thing he did before nearly every training session. He was on his way to the training compound when he could have sworn he heard the cry of something familiar. Someone familiar.

In his own world he had basically forgotten which day it was! He had heard that Mikio oneesan would be coming back to Iwa for a few days for an impromptu vacation from their duties in the soggy village. Boy it really rained a lot there. As a nekoshounen, he hated rain. It made him so miserable! How could anyon-

!!!!

With the sound of a mangled cat, the white haired feline was promptly pounced by an energetic Mikio! He had been so inside of himself that he didn't even think to look around when he heard that cry from earlier. Of course it was real, and of course it would result in him being ambushed like this! That's just how the Miyake girl was.

In a daze, he just kinda layed there, his eyes replaced with swirly lines as it was proven her ambush was successful, critically so even. He was pretty sure he slid in the dirt a good 5 feet too.. he had just washed his ninja garb too.

With an excited mewl, Yukikaze slipped out from their pocket inside his tunic and dove into the arms of the Miyake. It appeared that even though 6 months had passed, Yukikaze still recognized the scent of Shizuka's cousin and of her familiars.

Idly, he was thinking how he'd have to resign the notion of anything being orderly with the few days she would be here. Not that he minded that really.

CONSEQUENCES BE DAMNED Mikio cackled maniacally as she sat triumphantly atop Shizuka’s chest, pleased as punch that her ambush had succeeded. With the transformation active, her speed and reflexes were a step above, though she was still working on pushing herself even farther, melding even more perfectly with her beloved puma companions… … but that was a train of thought for later. For now, she had a cousin to dote on!! She gleefully accepted Yukikaze’s affections, cuddling the smaller cat and nuzzling them affectionately, careful to dote on the little creature just as much as she did her precious cousin. "Helloooooooo, Zuzu-ko!!” Mikio hollered, waving her free hand in front of Shizuka’s swirly eyes. "Are you alive in there? Mimi-neesan is here to visit for two whole days!! What do you want to do!?” Her first thought was of bubble tea and yummy pastries—always an excellent plan that she approved of one hundred percent of the time—but her second, more distant thought was of whether or not Shizuka had made any progress learning the bakeneko transformation in the time that Mikio had been gone. The younger girl had the same feline features that Mikio had, indicating the same level of potential mastery with the transformation techniques… but at least as far as Mikio knew, she hadn’t quite been able to merge with her kitty cats yet. Still, she didn’t want to put any pressure on her cousin, so instead she just cheerfully crushed the younger girl’s chest and waited for a response. Okami Shizuka -- 249

The girl’s transformation technique was no joke, that was for sure. Even with his advanced reflexes, her sheer speed and agility was a step above his reaction time. He didn’t have the largest frame of reference for how completely she had merged with her feline companions, but to him it appeared to be quite successful.

To look at the both of them, it might even appear to be polar opposite spectrums. Mikio, full of color, bursting with energy. Emotions and excitability worn on her sleeves, at least from his perception. Meanwhile Shizuka was a swatch of black and white, the only bit of color in his portrait from his muted, glacial blue eyes. He had trouble expressing himself, finding it harder than most to show his emotions. It didn’t help that he did not speak.

With a small, cat groan, he held out a tag he had written on.

S-Shizuka is unharmed… mostly, Mikio Oneesan.

Giving her a moment to read it, the boy slipped it back in and attempted -and failed- to remove the crazy ball of feline energy off of his chest, a place being crushed despite the fake padding bound around his breast area. Honestly he may die, right here. Right now. This was it. He could see it now.

Though, she did mention something about hijutsu training.

Snapping back to reality, his eyes flying open and looking at her with a glimmer in his eyes.

Actually… Shizuka hasn’t… made any progress. This one was still recovering from what happened.. Aside from that, there aren’t many who can train who have been available. It may only be you, Mikio Oneesama~

He said, confessing his hardships on a second tag. She might be in Amegakure most days, but he still felt it would be impossible that she hadn’t heard of the botched mission that took out their entire team, with him the sole survivor and a near-miss from critical condition.

CONSEQUENCES BE DAMNED Mikio readily accepted the tag offered up to her, giggling to herself as she read the word mostly. Happy to comply with Shizuka’s agenda of not dying, she rolled away when Shizuka attempted to push her off, utterly unconcerned with the layer of dust and dirt that now covered her from tip to toe. "Sorry, sorry!” she said, kneeling beside her as she waited for Shizuka to recover. When the second tag was presented to her, the bright ball of sunshine of Mikio’s energy quickly dimmed to stormy gray skies. She’d heard the news, of course—her parents kept her updated on all the important clan news, even things going on in other branches—but as with most scary and upsetting things that she had no control over, Mikio had pushed it firmly out of her mind until it was an absolute non-issue. She sighed, her ears pressed sadly flat against her head. "That’s okay, Zuzu-nee,” she said, a sharp tooth tugging worriedly on her lower lip. "It takes time to heal, you know? There’s no rush or anything, but if you want to practice, Mimi is here for a couple of days. Wanna try it out, or do something else instead? Mimi is great at distractions!” Okami Shizuka -- 209
