The early morning sun filtered through the dense canopy of trees, casting a soft, dappled light onto the forest floor. As the village of Takigakure stirred awake, the forest already buzzed with the sounds of nature coming alive. Touwa sat patiently on a large, moss-covered rock. His sharp, observant eyes scanned the forest path, waiting for any sign of Kaoru.

Nearby, Kuro prowled, occasionally brushing against the rock or pouncing on an unsuspecting insect. Despite the morning's stillness, Kuro's presence added a sense of liveliness to the scene. The cat occasionally glanced at Touwa with curious eyes, as if sensing his anticipation.

Ruiteki, currently in its flute form, lay gently across Touwa's lap. The instrument was an extension of himself, an integral part of his being.

Kaoru would be heard well before he could be seen, the jungles around the village made lines of sight rather difficult, and any good Taki-nin would use that to their advantage even instinctually. It was just he wore bells in his hair to actively give away his position, so there was the distinctive jingle of his stride as he came towards the meeting place.

The sound stopped just as it got close to coming around the path though, as though the redhead had suddenly paused.

A few moments a voice would appear behind Touwa, amusement clear in the tone, "Yo. Surprised to see you up so early ohime-sama, usually you would be getting up right about now~" Kaoru teased from his position against a tree in the other boy's blind spot, his 'cool' leaning posture with crossed arms ruined slightly by the fact that Kuro had already zeroed in on him and was currently gnawing on one of his sandals and kicking it like he was trying to disembowel the footwear.

"So, you were wanting to train right? What did you have in mind?” he asked, as though he didn’t just deliberately try to scare the younger teen with his appearance. If you couldn’t tease someone, what was the point of being a ninja? Well, that and lots of fun battles, but right now he would just enjoy Touwa’s inevitable reaction to his antics.

The reactions might have gotten a little more odd in recent years, but it was still funny to fluster the darker haired boy.

Touwa's composure almost broke at the sound of Kaoru’s teasing voice behind him. He turned sharply, his sharp, observant eyes momentarily wide with surprise before he regained his calm demeanor. Kaoru's ability to surprise him never ceased to amuse and frustrate him at the same time. He took a deep breath, steadying himself before responding.

"Kaoru-senpai," Touwa greeted, his voice steady, masking the initial shock. "You know, one of these days I'll hear you coming, despite those bells," he added with a wry smile. His hand gently stroked Ruiteki.

"Uhm, excuse me, but ugh? Stop touching me so weirdly," Rui had to intervene.

Kuro, having successfully gnawed on Kaoru’s sandal, now shifted his attention back to Touwa, rubbing against his leg with a satisfied purr. Touwa glanced down at the cat, a small smile playing on his lips. Kuro’s antics always managed to lighten the mood.

"You know, Kaoru," Touwa began, his tone thoughtful yet edged with a hint of mischief, "I've been working on my sound ninjutsu. I need a live target to practice on." He paused, letting the suggestion hang in the air before continuing. "Why don't you stand some distance away? It will give me a better range to test my abilities." Knowing Kaoru Touwa knew he would comply and it was just a matter of time before Kaoru would create some distance between them.

Touwa watched him go, feeling a surge of anticipation. He returned to his original spot on the moss-covered rock, Ruiteki firmly in hand. As he looked at Kaoru standing amidst the trees, a mischievous smile crept across his face. The playful side of him, rarely seen, surfaced in that moment.

"Ready or not, here I come," Touwa declared, his voice carrying a confident edge. He brought his flute up to his lips, his eyes locking onto Kaoru's.

The forest seemed to hold its breath as Touwa prepared to play. With a deep breath, Touwa began to play. The notes were sharp and precise, infused with chakra that carried through the air towards Kaoru. The sound waves, invisible but potent, moved with intent and precision, aimed at testing Kaoru's reflexes and agility.

Grinning slightly at the obvious startle reaction, Kaoru felt a measure of satisfaction that he could still get the job on his younger clansmate, Touwa was improving so quickly that it wouldn't be long until he was outstripped unless he picked up the pace himself. A true challenge really, but that wasn't a bad thing by any means. "If you can keep up with me with the bells, then I'll just have to stop using them, ne?" he retorted, a teasing expression clear upon his features.

Pointedly ignoring the self-satisfied feline as Kuro strutted away, Kaoru dipped his head in response to the request, wandering over to an appropriate distance before pulling at his clothing to remove the haori and outer layers, "I'd rather not damage too much of my clothing if I can help it," he added as he also removed a gourd of some sort from his waist, wrapping it in the clothing before tossing the bundle to the side.

"Alright, let's see what you have."

The first note split the clearing, and Kaoru braced himself, green eyes trying to scan the surroundings to see if he could spot the attack coming. He wasn't looking to evade yet, but he did want to see if he could somehow detect the attack before it hit him.

A few moments a light gash opened up on his shoulder, barely stinging but sending a small trail of blood down his pale skin. The redhead didn't even glance at it, instead continuing to examine his surroundings visually and more importantly audibly as he tried to see if there was a way to determine where the attacks were. More slices were opened up on his skin with varying degrees of depth without him moving the slightest avoid them.

"Ok, I think I got it~"

His fingers danced over the flute's holes, shifting the melody seamlessly into the next technique. The soothing notes of Fukinarasu Onpa began to blend with the sharp, rhythmic melody of Fue no Ha. The gentle gusts of sound waves conjured by Fukinarasu Onpa became the medium through which the spectral blades of Fue no Ha would travel.

The first blades would come from the left, barely visible until they were almost upon him. The next blades would follow swiftly, forcing Kaoru to move rapidly to avoid being hit.

Touwa continued to play. He knew Kaoru was capable, but he wanted to push him, to see how far he could go. The blades would keep coming, directed by the whistling sound waves, attacking from angles that were hard to anticipate.

Kaoru watched curiously as Touwa began to play the flute in a way that just felt a bit more structured and deliberate. With enough focus he could almost see the formation of the 'blades' of sound that had struck him earlier. It was a very interesting technique, and one that would almost certainly catch people off guard if they had never seen it before. Even knowing what to look for it was very hard for him to follow, and it was likely that only experience would ensure that he was able to avoid them in the future.

Poised and ready, the redhead waited as the blades formed shot through the air in a confusing and difficult pattern to follow, splitting up in a way that he didn't expect and causing him to lose track of at least a few. With the jingle of bells, Kaoru dodged what he could, a few of the blades tracked by him while others skimmed his flesh enough to spill blood.

It was tricky, especially as they didn't let up, twisting around and coming back from different directions and angles. For every one he dodged another managed to clip him, at least at first, his mouth twisting into a grin as he worked to avoid as much as he could. If this were a proper fight he'd have gone for the other boy straight away, aiming to stop him from playing, but that wasn't the point of this training. Thus, he continued to dodge, slowly getting better as he learned to track the blades not only visually, but through the sounds they, and their maker, made in order to move them.

He wasn't aiming to cut the sound waves—he knew better than that. Instead, his motion flowed with the energy, redirecting the force around him. The vibration of the waves buffeted his body, but Kaoru remained standing.

"Good," Kaoru replied, his voice calm despite the storm of energy around him. "But you're going to need more than that to throw me off balance, Touwa-chaaan~"

Kaoru allowed the first few blades of sound strike his body as he stepped forward, feeling the sharp sting of the spectral blades as they sliced through the air, their edges biting into his skin. The force of Touwa's sound waves hit him like a flurry of blows, but he stood his ground, refusing to be knocked off balance. Blood trickled from the fresh wounds, but Kaoru's expression remained impassive, his focus unwavering.

With a swift, practiced motion, Kaoru suddenly leapt forward as he parried the next set of incoming blades, each strike resonating with a sharp clang as steel met the spectral energy. The pain was almost unnoticeable, but he knew that they should have hurt much more.  Each cut was an indicator of the skill behind Touwa’s attacks, but Kaoru had endured far worse. He had trained his body to move past the pain, to see it as just another sensation to be acknowledged and then set aside.

"You’re skilled, Touwa-chan," Kaoru said, his voice calm despite the chaos surrounding him, "but pain is nothing more than a distraction." He adjusted his grip on his sword, blood dripping from his fingers, but his stance remained strong, his eyes locked on Touwa.

As the next wave of sound energy surged toward him, Kaoru didn't flinch. He let the force wash over him, allowing it to push him back slightly but never losing his footing. The sharp sting of more blades slashing at him barely registered as he focused on the rhythm of the battle, the flow of energy between them. His movements, barely slowed by the accumulating injuries, were still precise, each one driven by sheer willpower and determination.

He took a step forward, bloodied but undeterred, his gaze piercing through the distance between them. "Let’s see how far you can push me, Touwa-chan~"

Kaoru’s eyes narrowed in amusement as he watched the shuriken lift off the ground, twisting unpredictably in the air. He could feel the shift in Touwa's demeanor—the playful arrogance giving way to a more calculated aggression. The soothing melody of Fukinarasu Onpa filled the air, but Kaoru knew better than to be lulled by its calm.

"Crafty~" Kaoru acknowledged, recognising the new level of threat. The combination of sound and steel demanded not only speed but also precision and foresight.

As the first few shuriken came spinning toward him, Kaoru’s body moved instinctively. He sidestepped the initial volley, his sword flashing as he deflected a pair of the spinning blades with swift, controlled movements. Despite his efforts, a few of the shuriken found their mark, slicing into his arms and legs. Kaoru grinned in spite of the pain, refusing to let it slow him down.

More shuriken came flying from all directions, each one guided by the haunting melody of Touwa’s flute. Kaoru’s movements became a blur as he twisted and turned, deflecting what he could and dodging the rest. His senses were on high alert, his mind racing to predict the erratic paths of the deadly projectiles.

As another shuriken grazed his cheek, Kaoru’s gaze hardened. He knew he couldn’t keep this up forever; Touwa’s control over the shuriken was too precise, too unpredictable. He needed to change his strategy, to find a way to break through the relentless assault.

Well, sometimes you needed to do the unexpected.

Moving forward in a blur of speed the redhead ignored the shuriken this time, blade whirling through the air even as Touwa's projectiles slammed into his body, becoming stuck in his flesh in a way that would be difficult to remove with the sound of the flute.

"But how will you handle brute force Touwa-chaan~"

Continuing his charge as Touwa's clones materialised and formed a protective barrier around him, Kaoru could feel the shift in the air—the sound waves vibrating with an energy that was unsual and thus intriguing. The shimmering clones moved in perfect sync with Touwa, their forms distorted but somehow seeming tangible... "are those clones made of pure sound?" he asked, part incredulous part impressed.

Sound clones? Crazy!

The melody of took on a darker tone, filling the air with a sense of foreboding, and he heard the shuriken move behind him rather than stop to look, his blade ready to strike once he made it past the other boy's jutsu. He knew that Touwa was pushing himself to the limit, controlling both the defensive clones and the circling shuriken with flawless precision. It was a display of skill and mastery that was both impressive and dangerous.

Kaoru’s movements became a blur as he launched himself forward, charging straight at Touwa and his clones faster than before. He knew most would consider this a risk, but he was aiming to disrupt Touwa’s concentration, to force him to react rather than control. As he sprinted, he swung his sword in a wide arc, sending a powerful wave of energy toward the clones. It wasn't at full strength of course, but enough to make a point.

He wouldn't even flinch as the shuriken caught up to him and embedded themselves into his back, adding to the weapons that remained within his flesh. He'd been injured too often in combat to care anymore. He knew he had to push Touwa, to make him struggle to maintain his concentration and control. If he could disrupt the melody, even for a moment, it might be enough to turn the tide of the battle.
