There was something so relaxing and interesting about walking around the village in the middle of the day. People were out and about getting their daily errands done and for the most part it was something that Tsugime hadn't been able to experience as usually during this time he was stuck in class. The boy wasn't one for skipping out on his responsibilities on the regular but one of the food stands was debuting a new flavor of dango and he just had to get his hands on some before they ran out. Maybe that wasn't the best excuse for missing class but he doubted that they were gonna learn anything new today anyway, and besides if he missed out on this new dango flavor there'd be no living it down.

Hands locked behind his head the young Yuki leisurely made his way through the market district without a care in the world. If he was lucky then no one would even notice he was absent today or at the most his teachers would chalk it up to him being sick or something. But it wasn't like he was slacking off or anything, if anything it was quite the opposite. He had gotten the hang of all the academy techniques and was gearing up to take the graduation exam any day now so truth be told the boy didn't really feel like he had anything else to do in that classroom; of course, his teachers probably thought different but whatever he missed today Tsugime would just ask one of his friends to catch him up. No harm, no foul.

And you thought you were about to get a lecture on returning your book late.

Things happen. Missions get in the way of life and she just forgets to do a thing or two, like return a book on time. And the one actual slot of free time she has to go fishing, she's tasked with fishing for some kid that decided to skip class.

With Isonami by her side, it isn't a particularly difficult task for her. She just has to look for a not too short pipsqueak wandering around town. Chakra fuels his song, each note introducing a new element to her world as she walks further into town.

Adult... Adult... Toddler... Bird?

There. Right in the centre of the market district. A pipsqueak wanders about without a care in the world. And so she picks up her pace, weaving through the crowd all until she falls into pace beside him. White hair, fair skin, red eyes, Yuki clan symbol somewhere on his get-up. Check, check, check and check.

Readjusting the fishing rod against her shoulder, she smiles and gives him a wave.

"Yuki Tsugime?"

While the overall goal was to get those dango Tsugime wasn't sure just when he would do it. He didn't want to wait too late and miss out on them but if he went super early then the rest of his day would be open to do... who knew. Going home would no doubt raise suspicion from his family so he had to stay out long enough to make everything look normal by the time he did go home, but he also couldn't go to places that would make him more likely to be seen... present location not withstanding.

The boy was so caught up in his thoughts that he didn't even notice the older girl now walking alongside him, and as she called his name Tsugime stopped in his tracks as his head snapped to see who was calling him: a teenage girl holding a fishing rod. He supposed it wasn't the most odd thing to see considering they all lived on an island, but judging from the headband on her person she was definitely a shinobi. Taking a moment to see if he remembered her face from anywhere the boy drew a blank and though he had made a somewhat impressive showing at the academy tournament Tsugime doubted that people really knew his name like that; that left the only possibility being that the academy had sent her to look for him!

Well so much for playing hooky all day, and he was so close to getting that dango, too. Maybe there was a chance though as the girl didn't sound confident in her words, as if she was asking if he was Tsugime or not. An opportunity. "Hm? Oh nah, that's not me. We get mixed up all the time though, but next time I see him I'll tell him you were looking for him. What was your name?" He asked hoping to sell the story. Tsugime had never been a good liar but he was willing to try anything to make sure he got that dango.

"What are you doing out here?" She brushes his lie aside like water off a duck's back, her smile slowly melting into a minor frown. "Most kids would be at the academy by this time of day. Y'know, attending lessons?"

Lightly snapping her fingers as if attempting to manifest a magic trick, her mind stumbles upon a possibility.

"Ah, are you one of those 'too cool for school' kinda kids? The whole... 'I already know how to do it, so I don't need to go' kinda deal?"

There was a small chance his ruse could have worked and though the older girl didn't walk off to mind her own business somewhere else she also wasn't dragging him back towards the academy so maybe he could still get away with it. "There's a food stall that's coming out with a new flavor of dango, supposed to have like a brown sugar topping or something." He answered, truthful this time. Perhaps that would be enough to get the girl off her trail, but hearing Yuzuki mention the academy was a clear sign that she was onto him. He'd need to try harder.

"The academy? Like for people that want to be ninja? I was never really interested in that stuff so my parents didn't enroll me." Back to the lying, but he had to try something to get the suspicion off of him. Whoever this girl was didn't really look like someone who was tasked with finding people, but then again looks could be deceiving. Tsugime supposed it was a task that all shinobi should have been able to do in some form or fashion, but was him missing a single day of school really that important that they had to send someone to try and find him?

Judging from her words it seemed that this was not the first time she had dealt with this kind of problem and while she was kinda correct in thinking that Tsugime felt himself above going to class it was really only because of the new dango flavor and him being super close to graduating, if either of those things had not been true then he would have been front and center in the classroom, but the perfect storm of excuses had given him what he felt was just cause to skip out on what was assuredly a boring day of school.

"If I was in the academy though, I'd never skip a day. Seems like something that would get me in huge trouble." Tsugime replied with a nod. "But hey, how about we get some of that dango then I can help you find this class skipper, eh? Can't be fun working on an empty stomach." It was a last resort kind of thing before simply running off and trying to lose the older girl in the busy streets and he hoped that this worked because getting dragged back to class empty handed would just be the worst.

Shrugging her shoulders back, she wonders just what little plans he must be cooking in the back of his head.

"Well, those dango do sound real good!" This bit of truth invokes a tingling sweet tooth, a cheerful hum matching up with the rhythm of her steps. "We've got a bit of time, so why not?"

Plan after plan was falling flat and it seemed that the older girl was really determined to drag him back to class, though just as Tsugime was preparing to dash off Yuzuki told him not to worry about getting in trouble and that a slap on the wrist was probably the most that would happen. Given that this was his first time doing something like this she was more than likely right, but it wasn't so much the teachers the boy was worried about instead it was his clan. Tsugime had developed a bit of an adventurous personality over the years and it had landed him in more talks from higher ups in the Yuki than he could remember, so them hearing about him skipping class would no doubt send them through the roof.

In another surprising turn the girl agreed to tagging along for dango, a feat that Tsugime had tossed out as a last resort expecting the promise of sweets to not be enough to tip the scales of persuasion, alas fate had thrown him a bone for the time being. "Mhmm, no one can resist the temptation of a new dango flavor. Off we go!" With the stressors of being returned to school temporarily lifted Tsugime relaxed a bit as he led the pair towards the dango cart. It'd be a few minutes of walking and navigating all the busy streets would take some time.

"So, what was your name? And are you some kind of professional kid catcher or something? I had no idea they actually sent people to look for students who skip class." He supposed it made sense that a village full of ninja wouldn't be really good if the kids started skipping class on a regular basis and missed out on essential lessons or just dropped out all together.

Funato Yuzuki, a name he wasn't familiar with at all. Considering the age difference and the sheer number of people who lived here that wasn't a groundbreaking revelation but it turned out that this Yuzuki wasn't a professional kid wrangler at all, just someone who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise for the boy as there was no guarantee that whoever else the academy sent would have been so easily swayed by the promise of dango like this girl was, so even though Tsugime had been 'caught' he knew it could have been a lot worse.

Just then, an opportunity presented itself in the form of Yuzuki saying she didn't actually have to bring the boy back to the academy but instead was doing so purely to maintain a good reputation with the people in charge. So this didn't have to end the hard way after all, eh? If the girl could be swayed once she could be swayed again, but pressing his luck too early and often wasn't a good idea so Tsugime would just have to bide his time for now. "Hmm, I see I see, well that sucks to be spending your time having to search for a kid instead of doing cool shinobi stuff or..." He'd peer in at the fishing rod Yuzuki was holding. "...other stuff, too. What's the coolest thing you've seen out there? I pretty much have only seen the village but I heard the rest of the world looks waaaay different than Kiri."

There was a genuine excitement in Tsugime's voice as he asked. He was gearing up to hopefully become a shinobi soon and wanted to know all he could about what the world outside these giant gates looked like.

"Well... I once saw a pod of orcas fight off a giant shark." Still, she humours him. "Had to fight a whole buncha pirates too. One kept summoning water dragons. Pretty cool trick, so I stole it from him."

Or well, she's in the process of stealing it. It's a real work in progress.

"Travelled as far down to Reef Country once and boy, do they have a whole bunch of ships. You can tell which is from which island if you really look at 'em."

Tsugime listened in awe to the stories told, his mind racing to try and paint a mental picture of the various scenes and having a hard time believing the words he was hearing. The ships made sense considering the number of islands and coasts in the world and the need for crews to accurately and proudly display were they hailed from. Maybe one day he'd be able to go out sailing the seas and witness a similar sight, though if there were also a bunch of pirates out there then maybe that wasn't such a good idea.

"Pirates?! Water dragons?!! And you... stole it? How'd you steal it?" The boy asked. He had no idea how someone could steal a jutsu and maybe this woman was a whole lot more interesting than the boring ole fishing rod she was carrying around made her look. "And that whale fight? Was that something you came across or were they, um, what do they call them.. summons? Yeah, that's the word! Were the whales and shark someones summon animal?"

The questions were flowing now as Yuzuki had done a smash up job at piquing the boys interest and now she had no choice but to answer his questions, thems was the rules. A bit of walking later would see the two reach the dango stall and unfortunately what Tsugime had wanted to avoid was now coming to fruition: there was a line. Not super long, thankfully, but one that could have been avoided had he not been caught walking the streets. "See? I told ya they'd be popular. They better not run out..."

"Fished it right out with my trusty fishing rod I did." A fist thumped against her chest, the other gently wiggling the handle of said fishing rod. "Mighty tough that one was. Tried very hard to drag me into the water. But with the crew behind me, we held on. Almost towed and split the whole ship in its rampage!"

There's no hiding the glint in her eyes as he begins digging into the other part of her story.

"Nah, they were wild. Ferocious." With a grin as wide and dark as an orca's, she lowers her voice to a hush. "Held nothing back and went right at each other's throat."

She'd witnessed the whole thing, even when they took it underwater. The gnashing of teeth and churning of blood in the waters. Ah, but perhaps she should hold back a little. Not everyone likes hearing about such gruesome things.

"They've got more being made in the back." Return back to her normal self, she's certain about this one. After all, she can sense the flurry of activity going on in the kitchen. "Patience, pipsqueak. These dangos are best made fresh."

"Wait.. you hooked a water dragon jutsu with a fishing rod? How does that even work?" Tsugime inquired with squinted eyes, pieces of the story not adding up correctly in his mind. Those thoughts, however, were quickly replaced by the imagery of the whale v shark fight that Yuzuki described and he couldn't imagine what it would have been like to witness something like that in person. There was probably a lot of splashing around on the surface and no doubt it would have been hard to see what was really going on without being under the water but there was no way in hell he would have ever done that less he end up as the next victim.

"Man, there really is some cool stuff to see out there. I can't wait until I get the chance to see something other this place." Tsugime hummed with excitement. Between what had heard from Keneo about the different type of ninja in the world and Yuzuki's experiences the boy was raring to get his own headband and get into some stuff. Missions, unlocking new abilities with tougher training, all of it. One could argue being in class would have helped him get closer to making that dream a reality but they'd be wrong as it wasn't everyday the dango cart was debuting a new flavor. Speaking of...

The line slowly inched forward and with each step the sweet smell of melted brown sugar grew stronger, it was enough to make a grown man salivate. Tsugime could only hope that the people ahead of them weren't being greedy and ordering a bunch --even though he had pretty much planned to do that very thing-- and while the boy normally wasn't a troublemaker he wasn't above running off with someone's treats if the situation called for it. Alas, the hired help standing next to him probably wouldn't let that happen and she definitely wasn't making matters better by telling him to practice patience... and calling him short. "Yeah yeah, I'm not even that much shorter than you, and I haven't even hit my growth spurt yet. Just you wait."

Curiosity prompted Tsugime to lean over and take a closer look at the fishing rod the older girl was carrying with her. It looked like any other fishing rod the boy had ever seen and there was just no way Yuzuki was reeling in water dragons and stuff with it, so what about the thing made it 'not so normal'? Maybe she was just a really good fisherwoman and there was some super secret technique she had that made the fishing rod more... interesting. "Uh huh, looks pretty normal to me, but I'll take your word for it." There was a healthy amount of skepticism in the boy's voice but this was just give him another reason to hurry up and graduate so he could go on missions and see what Yuzuki meant.

As the two continued to wait Yuzuki would ask what other goals the boy had aside from wanting to get out and see the world, which for one his age thought it was a pretty huge thing to reach for, but Tsugime supposed there had to be other things he was looking forward to doing once he became a genin; well, one in specific. "Umm, definitely finding the best way to combine taijutsu with my clans ice stuff. I think it'd be cool to beat people up and freeze em at the same time, y'know? Still got a lot of work to do though, but I'm getting there!" He replied with a grin. It hadn't taken long for Tsugime to realize he really liked taijutsu and while it was cool to be able to apply pressure to people in close quarters combat he needed something else to give him the edge over people who were just as strong as him.
