summon rules

overview.

While there are many types of summoning techniques, we will be focusing on one specific type of summoning technique. Namely, we will be focusing on the contracted summons. Contracted summons consist of a shinobi signing a contract in blood in order to summon entities that are bound to that particular contract. These contracts can be held by a sole individual, but more commonly they are held by a particular clan, village or organization who have allowed an individual to sign as a show of trust or as a reward. These summons over centuries have proven to be incredibly deadly weapons in the right hands, as the summon is capable of independent thought and action. Often the summons can make up for a younger person's inexperience by lending their own knowledge or strengthen a weaker shinobi with their own power.

core rules.

1.) While all summons have chakra natures, any summon with the ability to use one of these natures automatically must be C rank or higher. Additionally, any summon with two affinities or more must be A rank or higher.

2.) Summons are permitted to have jutsu of their own, which are registered in the summon application. If you wish to have them learn more jutsu later on you must register the jutsu normally, with the exception of titling it as the summon's jutsu and must spend your own experience to purchase it for them. Purchase Costs

3.) Justu limits for summons are as follows. This however only reflects what a summon may start with. Additionally it should be noted that summons might be able to utilize jutsu without the use of handseals. Generally however, such jutsu still require some type of motion for ninjutsu or possibly sound for genjutsu. Ninjutsu [Medical] and Ninjutsu [Puppetry] require all requisite SAs to use techniques of the spec or to have the equipment to utilize the jutsu.

[EI. Med spec summons require Chakra Control and Medical Knowledge while Puppeteers require the use of SAs to have a usable puppet of their rank.]

E Rank - 0 Jutsu
D Rank - 1 D rank
C Rank - 1 C rank / 1 D rank
B Rank - 1 B rank / 1 C rank / 1 D rank
A Rank - 1 A rank / 1 B Rank / 3 C or Lower
S Rank - 1 S rank / 1 A rank / 4 B or Lower

4.) Generally you are allowed to make any contract that has not been claimed. For example if someone were to make a crow contract, you would still be allowed to make a contract for another avian species like an owl. The exception to this rule are the sage contracts. Sage contracts cover a very large variety of species and as such are not allowed to be infringed upon. So, using Konoha's Toad Contract, you would not be allowed to make a summon that falls under the many types of toads. For non-sages the largest order of animals a contract should cover is a genus.

5.) While summons generally do not stay with a contract owner or signer, small ones may remain with the owner/signer. However if a two threads are stated to happen at the same point of time and a person in the first thread has the summon with them, then the person in the second summons it; the summon will disappear from the first thread.

6.) Summons may have special abilities, the limits are as follows. These abilities may vary to a certain extent. For example, they could have an increased sense of smell, enhanced strength or the ability for some toads to create oil.
E Rank - 1 Ability
D Rank - 1 Ability
C Rank - 2 Abilities
B Rank - 2 Abilities
A Rank - 3 Abilities
S Rank - 4 Abilities

7.) Whoever brings forth a summon in a thread is in charge of npc'ing it. However, if the person in question begins to ignore the summon's personality to make it more willing to help them or do something outside their nature then anyone involved in the thread are to report it to the staff. At such a time the member may lose their contract.

8.) Should the owner of a contract go inactive for over two weeks with nothing heard from them and no message explaining their absence then the staff reserve the right to put their summon contract up for adoption. If another signer is listed on the contract then that signer or signers will have first claim to it. If no other signer is on, then it will be open to the general public.

9.) No mythical creature summons are allowed at this point of time. This means no phoenix, manticore, etc. However, the staff may give out one of these mythical summon contracts at a later point as a special reward for contests or such. Additionally, regular animals may be bi-pedal (If their body structure might allow it), wearing clothing & have more humanoid hands.

10.) All summons, regardless of their rank are capable of human speech and as such do not need to have it listed as an ability.

11.) When creating a contract the limit to how many may be in any one type of contract (personal, village, clan, sage) is as follows:

Personal - 6
Clan - 8
Village - 12
Sage - 18

[Exception: Clans that require summons for their KKG/HJ use the Village limit instead.]

12.) A character is able to start with summons in their application. However, after being approved a character must acquire any summons ICly. Whether that be through past thread or current thread, it must be attained through writing and then added to the application via appeal.

13.) Even without having a Senjutsu specialization, you can still sign a 'Sage' animal contract: you simply won't be able to summon or use any of those summons that use Senjutsu themselves.
