familiar rules

overview.

While some summons are used as familiars to a certain extent, these rules correlate to an animal that has trained to work alongside a shinobi for the entirety of their lives. The primary example of this from the series are the dogs of the Inuzuka clan.

Rank Restrictions
• Academy Student: D
• Genin: C
• Chunin: B
• Spec. Jounin: A
• Jounin: S
• Elite Jounin: S

core rules.

1.) All familiars, like summons any just about every living being has a chakra nature. However, unless there are specific techniques developed between the familiar and owner to make use of this nature, it is unlikely they will ever be able to use it.

2.) Familiars are not permitted to have jutsu they use on their own. Instead they must rely on combination techniques used in conjunction with their owners. However, unlike summons the jutsu do not need to be purchased for them. Instead, familiars are capable of using any combination jutsu their owner purchases. For example, if an Inuzuka has Juujin Bunshin (Beast Human Clone) then their dog is automatically able to use it as well.

3.) In addition to not having techniques similar to that of another clan, only clans that focus upon the bond between shinobi and familiar are capable of having and utilizing techniques with their familiar.

4.) In essence, you are allowed to have any species of familiar. However, if a clan has techniques developed to be used alongside a certain type of familiar, then you are not allowed to make any techniques that fall close to theirs. For example, you would be allowed to have a dog familiar if you want, but would not be allowed to have any techniques similar to the Inuzuka clan's.

5.) Familiars are limited to shinobi not part of clans similar to Inuzuka. While these ninja are able to create and 'have' as many familiars as the player wants, they will be limited in battle threads and non-social threads to one familiar to come to their assistance.

6.) Familiars may have special abilities and gain more as their owner ranks up, the limits are as follows. These abilities may vary to a certain extent. For example, they could have an increased sense of smell, enhanced strength or the ability for some toads to create oil.

• E Rank - 1 Ability
• D Rank - 1 Ability
• C Rank - 2 Abilities
• B Rank - 2 Abilities
• A Rank - 3 Abilities
• S Rank - 4 Abilities

6.1) Any enhanced sense SA [smell, hearing, vision, etc] on a familiar follows the ranges shown below, depending on the familiar rank. While many of these senses could quite easily help detect or track targets among other uses, remember that they are not a replacement for SA-like Sensor abilities. While an increased sense of smell might help differentiate one individual from another or help track a nearby enemy that you can't see, it will not let you know there was an enemy a mile away five days ago. Furthermore, the environment in which enhanced senses are used can obstruct or diminish their effectiveness; for example, enhanced sight may be obstructed by a smoke bomb, etc.

Enhanced Senses Ranges Relative to Familiar Rank:
E Rank - Active: 25m / Passive: 5m
D Rank - Active: 100m / Passive: 20m
C Rank - Active: 300m / Passive: 60m
B Rank - Active: 1km / Passive: 200m
A Rank - Active: 2km / Passive: 400m
S Rank - Active: 5km / Passive: 1km

7.) In addition to limiting the amount of familiars towards shinobi of non-specific clans, there will also be a range of familiars that those from Inuzuka similar style clans can have per rank.

• Academy Student : 1
• Genin: 1-2
• Chunin: 1-3
• Sp Jounin: 2-4
• Jounin: 3-5
• Elite Jounin: 5-8
**Note: Max of 2 S ranks

8.) The owner of the familiar is in charge of NPC'ing it in threads.

9.) No mythical creature familiars are allowed. This means no phoenix, manticore, minotaurs, etc.

10.) A character is able to start with familiars in their application. However, after being approved a character must acquire any familiars ICly. Whether that be through past thread or current thread, it must be attained through writing and then added to the application via appeal.
