Iron-Will Omi. This was Tadaomi's alias within his own clan. There was no task that he woudl not set himself to if it meant serving his master. Even so, today's mission had him feeling a bit uneasy. To the northwest of Iwagakure, the Nekomata, Okada Himari, and Tantetsu Souma had travelled to meet one of the followers of Hikari, a religious organization that the Village Hidden by Rocks associated with closely. Their task was to enter a deep, dark cave and annihilate a collection of... 'beasts'. Due to the dangerous nature of this mission, Tadaomi had elected to leave his lifelong cat companion, Daisuke, back in the village. His combat abilities relied quite a bit on having his feline familiar around, but not so much that he'd risk losing his best friend combatting what seemed to be supernatural beasts.

The journey to the cave took a day or so and was uneventful, though that wasn't to say that it would be silent. Tadaomi was well acquainted with his teammate, Himari, but he knew the Okada was a bit more talkative and she most likely would have conversed with their temporary third member, the medical Tantetsu, along the way. He would keep mostly to himself if it was at all possible, but he would not be so rude as to ignore any conversation that was thrown his way.

When the trio reached their destination, marked both on a map as well as being plainly obvious judging from the massive cave mouth that stood before them, the Iwagakure shinobi would be greeted by a stranger. He certainly matched the description that had been given to them during their mission briefing, wearing a full suit of metal armor with plenty of Hikari symbolism plastered at various points on his person.

"Greetings emissaries from Iwagakure! Are you prepared to enter the deep darks and vanquish the foul evils from within? Do what you must now for I have no intention of turning back until the deed is done."

Tadaomi simply snorted and looked to see if Himari and Souma needed to make any final preparations. Personally, the Nekomata had arrived ready to start the mission, but perhaps medical shinobi had extra things to work on before getting into the thick of things.

Souma did not look like a medic- she looked like she was ready for war.

While not so heavily armored as the Hikari individual waiting to meet them at the mission destination itself, she wore significantly more armor than a simple flak vest. Armored plates adorned every limb, and her torso, likewise, the utility pockets placed to retain a usable inventory without compromising the protective gear. She moved easily in the kit, neither concerned with overheating nor with its weight, and- for all the extra metal added for protection- the gaps between the plates kept it from being any more noisy than otherwise. Bright eyes peered out from beneath her headband, and heavy boots and gauntlets served as weapons less obvious than a blade's scabbard, with coils of steel cable curled at the small of her back where such weapons might otherwise be.

Himari was one of the few Okada Souma hadn't had a chance to meet with on their own so far, but she had enjoyed meeting Goro, Adachi, and Taki, so she suspected they would get along well. She was more than happy to chat on the way, but she was unfailingly polite and formal, so as to preclude even the chance of insulting someone by stepping across a boundary she didn't know ahead of time.

Upon arrival, she bowed, polite as ever, to their- host? client?- and offered a simple, "Thank you for your welcome. I have one preparation, but it will take no time at all. I am ready to preceed when all of us are." While the others either signaled their readiness or engaged in preparation, Souma performed a single, brief hand-seal and directed a tiny amount of chakra into her throat, infusing her own saliva with protective qualities to filter out any impurities underground. She'd spend more than enough time in the family mines to know how devastating an unnoticed pocket of gas could be, even if it did not ignite.

NAME: Firuta no Jutsu [Filter Technique]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
ELEMENT: -
HANDSEALS: 1
REQUIREMENT: Chakra Control SA
DESCRIPTION:

After making the appropriate handseal, the user forms a barrier of saliva in their throat. This barrier protects the user from breathing in anything harmful, and is a simple replacement for a gas mask.

name: Kōton: Kōsaku [Steel Release: Steel Cable]
rank: C
cost: Low
class: Ninjutsu, Kekkei Tōta
element: Kōton

The name given to the manipulation of steel cable created by the user's chakra, this steel cable can be used as potent whip-like weapons or as a means of grappling or moving quickly over open ground. The cable is often spooled on the user's back and connected to their wrists to allow for quick usage.

Hell ya...though ya'll gonna have to tell me just what ya just did just now..."

Himari and Souma had a nice decision upon their travel to the Hikari followers, though she imagined that she was doing her best to be as formal as possible. In all honesty, considering her clan wasn't much on such measures, she felt almost embarrassed at her lack of any real refinement. Still, perhaps that didn't matter considering the woman's previous encounters with her fellow kin. Which in truth, always worried her a bit.

While she was usually sure that Goro would be on his best behavior, Adachi and Taki were often on different pages when it came to proper greetings. Still, with the two of them basically adults at this point, she hardly had to watch over them as much as one might expect of an older relative. Granted, each of them were unique in their own way. That was what made their group special. Still, it was at least a comfort to know that things were at the very least civil. If they were working together, it was best not to be tense around each other.

Which was far easier with Tadaomi if she were being honest. Though not as much as she reckoned they had been considering. But that had as much to do with her own internal thinking than anything related to him.

As the group seemed to be making their preparations, Himari really hadn't taken much with her aside from the gear within her vest and her jacket. Adjusting the fabric across her arms, she'd brush the dust from her sleeves and began tightening the grip of her gloves across her wrist. They were here to deal with beasts, which honestly didn't have much to do with shinobi work if she were being truthful. But still, if there was a way that they could help, she did not see any reason why they shouldn't.

The guard on duty seemed more than ready, even stating that this was the last chance any of them had to get ready as he would not turn back after they left this point. Placing her hand on her hip, the blonde would brush her hair from her face as she nodded with a smirk on her face.

"Ain't no time like present right? Reckon the sooner we do this, the safer ya'll be..."

Himari begun her career as an underdog, underestimated by many of her opponents within the ring due to her size. Yet, in spite of this, she would always come up with a way to win in the end, despite being at the disadvantage. This has much to do with her reflexes, capable of moving around her targets attempts and finding the openings she needs to take them down. More often than not, this serves as her means of protection in it being difficult to hit a someone that you can't accurately engage against. Though it operates on her instincts, it can be unreliable in some situations. Especially if Himari has not been able to figure out the exact anatomy of her opponent.

Heart of a Champion
During her run within the OWA, Himari would train constantly to build up her strength and stamina. She would need both in order to complete the various techniques that were involved in her style of wrestling. As such, strength training was key in her mind as she came up with an arrangement in order to continue to build upon those foundations taught to her. While she is indeed smaller than most of the people she encounters, her size does no more than give her the appearance of being less powerful than she is. Her ability to sustain stronger grapples upon her opponents is increase through this advantage, as well as the impact of her physical attacks.

Legacy of a Champion
Okada Riku was known throughout the world for her speed and agility when she was in the ring. Such is reflected upon her continue run until her retirement. This trait has been passed down by to her daughter as Himari has displayed incredible speed. This has only increased over the years, alongside her training with both her mother and other shinobi. She can move swiftly across the field with little issue, using her agile footwork to get in close on a target before they can even realize it. Excelling at this, she focuses on being evasive with this ability as well, allowing for her to be just as proactive in getting in, as well not getting hit in the process.

There was very little for the trio of shinobi to do before they were prepared to start their mission proper, prompting their Hikarian guide to rise to his feet from where he sat. The armor-clad figure easily dwarfed the shinobi, standing well over 6 feet tall as he affixed a diamond shaped shield to his left arm before withdrawing and holding a strange, chime-like object in his right hand. Tadaomi stepped forward holding his own weapon, gesturing towards the mouth of the cave with the blade of his naginata.

"We are ready to depart..." He paused as he realized he didn't know the man's name, which Follower of Hikari jovially picked up on.

"I am known as Divine Faithful Kita Kou, though you may simply call me Kou. And what shall I call you three?"

Tadaomi fidgeted with a bit of agitation as their mission was stalled yet again, and he quickly ran down each of their names, pointing to make it more clear who he was referring to.

"I am Tadaomi, this one is Souma, and the last is Himari, though she sometimes likes to be referred to as Huckleberry."

Thankfully, that seemed to be a satisfactory enough introduction for Kou, and without any further delay the armored man began leading the way into the cave. Tadaomi jogged a few paces to catch up with the long legged man, taking up a position to the right and taking one final deep breath of fresh air before the stony cave ceiling hid the sun. At this point, the cave was still very wide and open, though the shade did prompt Kou to ring his chime directly over his shield, a soft prayer spoken to himself at the same time. A wisp of light spun over the shield before blossoming even brighter until it was as if Kou were carrying a bright torch or lamp, giving more than enough light for the three shinobi to continue their initial trek into the cave.

The wide open space only continued for another 50 or so meters before it became a true cave, the walls and ceilings rapidly closing in with stalactites even coming into view. Eventually the path forward became more of a path downward, and the walls closed in even tighter, forcing the group to travel no more than two abreast. That made traveling with a pole-arm rather uncomfortable, and Tadaomi found himself awkwardly taking the lead as to not accidentally hit any of his allies. This maneuver didn't go unnoticed by Kou, and the armored man's booming voice nearly caused Tadaomi to jump. He hadn't actively noticed it, but the sounds of nature had subtly faded to nothing, making the 4 people the only sources of noise.

"Aha! Taking the lead eh? Here, may Hikari bless your weapon."

Again Kou rang his chime, this time over Tadaomi's naginata. The light faded from the Divine Faithful's shield, but instead reappeared emanating from the naginata, giving Tadaomi the freedom to point their light in any direction he liked, as well as making it more convenient for him to lead, though for the moment there was still only one way forward and down.

"Oh!" The medic smiled at the blonde Okada and explained cheerfully. "It is simple. I have created a barrier of medicated saliva in my mouth and throat to absorb and block inhaled intoxicants. Caves often have gas pockets, whether from mining or simply because a heavier gas settles into low places in the mine. By ensuring I do not succumb, I keep myself available to purify the three of you in case you succumb," Souma explains simply.

"It also protects me in case I need to utilize such gasses myself. It is a last resort, but can turn a rout into a conclusive victory, as I can remove the effects from my allies very easily."

She bowed respectfully as she was introduced to Kou, offering simply, "It is my pleasure to assist you, Kita-san. Please feel free to lead the way when you are prepared."

The caves, contrary to what one living on open-aired mountaintops might be expected to feel, is home to Souma. They're different caves, of course, but the mines beneath the Tantetsu estate are extensive, to say the least, and the chill of the land rising around them bothers her not one bit. It wouldn't be mistaken to note a little childish pep in her step to wander deeper into the underground, though she seems no less alert for it.

"These caves are a holy place, yes? Overrun with- the term used was beasts, I believe? Do we have any intel on their capabilities? Are there any things we must avoid as sacreligous in such a holy place, Kita-san? I am afraid we must rely on your knowledge of the divine here."

Ain't that sweet?"

As Souma explained exactly what she was doing as a precaution for what may be expected within the caves, she honestly was more relieved at the fact that if they were in trouble, she'd at least be capable of getting them out of it. Though she did wish that perhaps they all might have some of that to keep it from being a possibility. Still, it seemed like such thinking would have to wait, as their armored guide appeared ready to depart. As he introduced himself as Kita Kou, Tadaomi would do the honors of giving their names, though seeming to take special care as to add something extra to hers.

"Hold ya'll horses...that wasn't...ugh..never mind..."

Placing one hand upon her face, she'd simply take her head from one side to the next as they began to make their way further in. With the group now within the cave, Kou began a ceremony that was related to ringing a bell as they moved through. Though the light reflected from his shield seemed as if it were a burning flame, bringing vision to the shaded path as they moved further. It was interesting seeing the religion of others play a part in something other than donations and in actual effect. Of course, if she was a betting gal, she'd imagine there was some means in which for him to apply chakra to the thing.

But as their path grew more narrowed, it seemed as though Kou was not actually going to be much aid leading the way, prompting Tadaomi to take the lead in his stead. This seemed to prompt a transfer of some kind, leading to the light that had once been upon Kou's shield to now pass to her teammate's own weapon. With a blank expression, the blonde female would laugh lightly, resting her hands within her jacket pockets before leaning in slightly to get as much of a view as possible.

"That ain't no normal church bell..."

It was then that Souma seemed to ask just if there was anything they needed to be weary off, especially in what was a holy place? She seemed to wonder if Kou knew of their opposition and if there was anything they could learn of them before an encounter.

"Good call Souma...best to know what we fightin before it hits us..."

A hearty chuckle erupted from behind Kou's visor after Souma explained the jutsu she had prepared to Himari.

"Quite the useful, if not quint, ability! Though I assure you the creatures we face in these caves are much more of a threat. Worry not young Souma! There is little you can do defile this holy place more than what has already transpired here. These beasts are foul abominations of the dark god Yami, spawned from darkness itself. Hikari's, and my, hatred for these monsters is only rivaled by our hatred for those who harness the powers of bijuu, Jinchuuriki you call them, and those who twist nature itself, 'Sages.'"

While Kou had begun his response with his usual jolly tone, as he went on one could almost hear venom dripping from his voice.

"These beasts of Yami proliferate in dark caves such as this, twisting wildlife and giving them unholy strength and vitality while in the darkness. It is only when exposed to light can they be truly vanquished, which is why it is imperative you shinobi stay close to me at all costs."

Tadaomi's hands closed tighter around his naginata as Kou explained the creatures' weakness, realizing that the glowing weapon in his hand was practically his lifeline. He also immediately understood that Kou needed to be protected at all costs, as if the Divine Faithful fell the shinobi would likely be next.

"In that case, I must make the request that you do not take any unnecessary risks. Allow the three of us to engage the enemies directly while you keep yourself safe."

Joy returned to Kou's voice at that, the man barely stifling a chuckle as he transferred the light back to his shield with another ring of his chime.

"Nonsense! A true follower of Hikari shall show no fear in the face of battle, and I shall lead the way from henceforth."

The religious man's words made more sense after they walked another few minutes, the tunnel suddenly opening up into a massive cavern. The ceiling was so high up that it escaped the reaches of Kou's light, though the tips of massive stalactites could be seen. Stalagmites reached up from the stoney floor as well, formed by thousands of years of dripping limestone water. If it wasn't for the absolute darkness, Tadaomi might have assumed they had gone back outside from the sheer size of this cave. He found himself straining to perceive anything, to hear anything coming from the inky blackness ahead, and with enough focus he could make out the sounds of dripping water.

"From here we must exercise vigilance. The beasts will no doubt seek to catch us unawares, and these cave systems are a labyrinth in and of themselves. One wrong turn and we may never see the glory of the sun again."

Kou's voice was much quieter now, his shield held up against the darkness as he continued to lead the way. Tadaomi wasn't all that pleased that Kou had taken the lead again, but he wasn't going to fight the man on his foolhardiness. He instead took up a march alongside Himari, now holding his weapon in a much more comfortable, and safe, way. The Nekomata briefly leaned into speak to the Okada, his voice practically a whisper though he made sure to keep his eyes on their surroundings.

"I don't imagine it'll be wise to mention our village's possession of... a particular tailed creature."

Tadaomi had no knowledge of who currently possessed the Gobi of Iwagakure. The last publicly known jinchuuriki had been Satori Akira, but he doubted that Takara hadn't already implanted it in another. Tadaomi didn't concern himself much with global or even village-wide politics, but he did now wonder why it was the followers of Hikari aligned themselves so much with a village that so prominently utilized both sages and jin.

It was reaffirming to have her erstwhile teammates confirming her questions were worth asking, and soon enough, she got more info from their guide, nodding along as he confirmed they need not worry for the sanctity of the place, already defiled as much as one location could be. "Okay. I am sorry that has happened, but at least it is a little reassuring that we need not worry ourselves overmuch." She frowned a little to hear the beasts were functionally immortal in the darkness, but it also gave her an idea. As long as she could stay near the light... "I think I can help with the light issue. Can the light be placed on any object? Perhaps a larger steel object?"

Souma's eyes flicked wonderingly back towards the two Ops members as they whispered about... well, something, between each other, unsure of what, but just as strongly assured that if they were keeping it secret, it was likely wise to let them do so. She could always ask them later what they were discussing.

While they moved deeper, Souma carefully spooled the wires coiled behind her back through the slots in her gloves. If she was right, her ability to utilize them at a distance could prove phenomenally useful- and thus prove HER phenomenally useful, she hoped! Best to be ready!

Reckon not...though it does kinda make ya wonder just what they want us here for?"

Given her own family's now closer relation to at least one of those things that Kou held strong feelings over, it was difficult to imagine just what it was that had caused their following to grant them access here? Of course, perhaps they were desperate or maybe this claim of hatred was limited to just Kou himself. It was difficult to tell with this being her only meeting with the man. After all, some people claimed a lot of things that others weren't exactly fond of, but that didn't make it a collective. Hell, some people preferred Ninjutsu over Taijutsu, but that didn't mean everyone thought as much.

But it did give rise to thought of just what was the true nature of the beasts they were here to slay. Was it actual monsters, was perhaps something else completely?

While Souma volunteered to take the lead from Kou, whom had by now seemed to reclaimed the position, Himari would rest a hand upon her shoulder, a brief laugh escaping her lips as she gently pulled her back.

"Whoa now...no need to go takin head slayer yet...sides...we need ya'll if things get rough up front..."

Looking toward Tadaomi with a calm expression, Himari would begin to move passed him as she'd take his place as second to Kou, her expression calm as she figured it was time to ask the obvious.

"The Beast of Yami...what do they look like? Reckon from the sound of it...ya'll faced em before? Might help a girl out to know what she's lockin horns with ya know?"

Himari was hoping that she was wrong, that perhaps this was indeed monsters that needed to be slain, something that was clear cut and to the point. If it wasn't then this made things much more complicated, considering just how much it seemed that Kou was ready to go and kill those that were the opposite of his beliefs. In truth, perhaps these were just individuals that just saw things differently. If so, then what did that make them?

Kou tilted his head as he considered Souma's line of thinking, chuckling softly after a few moments.

"I'd say the light I can produce can inhabit an object no bigger than my shield here. It would give me great joy to place my light onto something particularly large, the world even! But alas I can only channel Hikari's divine light in limited ways. Additionally, it would be wiser if we place the light on something that has little chance of striking or being struck. This blessing has additional effects which will extinguish the light should should a collision occur. However, if you have your own source of light, that will suffice in subduing these creatures' capabilities."

The armored man turned ever so slightly as he noticed the whispering between Tadaomi and Himari, but ultimately kept up the same pace, leaving the two shinobi to their private conversation. The Okada didn't have much of definitive response to give to Tadaomi, instead only vocalizing a question that had resided unspoken in their minds. He nodded as Himari moved in front of him, all the while staying alert to their surroundings.

"The Beasts of Yami take all sorts of forms! As I said, they were once natural wildlife, and once turned by the dark one they become larger, monstrous, twisted, vile versions of themselves. But, arguably... still... recognizable...?"

Kou's voice softened as he answered Himari, both his speech and walking pace slowing before he eventually came to a complete stop. His head tilted as he seemed to try and hear something, before the silence was broken by a thunderous shuffling. A cloud of bats suddenly penetrated the sphere of light emanating from Kou's shield, billowing past the group harmlessly, but certainly catching Tadaomi off guard. The bats quickly dissipated back into the darkness behind the shinobi, leaving them in silence once more. And then a much larger flapping came from above. Instantly, Tadaomi's blade was pointed skyward, just in time as a group five more bats descended upon the group, but these were drastically different. Each bat was roughly the size of a large dog and, more disturbingly, their shapes seemed to be barely stitched together. They were practically writhing masses of raw shadow, sharp talons of darkness scratching out in an attempt to claw and grab individuals of the group.

Tadaomi's reactive strike didn't ring completely true, the surprise of the attack causing him to knock away one of the creatures as opposed to slashing through it. But as their onslaught continued, the Nekomata focused chakra into the metal of his blade, extending it with yellow-ish chakra and giving him just a bit of extra reach. The bats, while vicious, attacked with startling intelligence, swooping in for a brief engagement before attempting to retreat back into the dark, recovering from any injuries they might have sustained.

NAME: Kenatsu: Nagasa [Pressure: Length]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low - Continuous
CLASSIFICATION: Bukijutsu - Bladed Weapon
ELEMENT: N/A
HANDSEALS: N/A
DESCRIPTION:
The first 'true' Kenatsu technique, this jutsu absolutely requires a bladed weapon. By consistently channeling chakra into the blade of the weapon, the user can increase its length by 50% of the blade's length. Because of the nature of the jutsu, swords gain more use out of the technique, due to their typically longer blade sizes. The additional length is visible as whatever color the user's chakra is. Other than the color, however, the blade extension acts just like normal metal, capable of being blocked by physical objects.

Souma blinked owlishly as she was tugged back, not having consciously realized she had stepped forward as much as she had while lost in thought. "Oh! I apologize, I did not intend to seem to be trying to do so. I was theorizing how we might be able to contest our opponents is all." She moved back into place easily, taking no offense nor minding Hikari's gentle correction and amusement.

"Mm. Needing to be an object unlikely to be struck does make it more complex. Thank you for the explanation. I will endeavor to ensure your shield is not the unfortunate victim of a blow, then," Souma replied simply, before listening closely to the description of their foes.

Just in time for them to make an appearance.

Remembering the warning about being dragged into the darkness, Souma flicked one arm out towards the nearest massive stalagmite, the steel of one end of her cable stabbing into the stone as an anchor. Instants later, one of the bats swept towards her, claws raking and reaching, and Souma threw her hand towards it in what seemed like a punch falling woefully short...

... only for the loop of cable she'd thrown out to snag tight around its neck as she swung her arm towards the ground as the cable retracted, leaving the creature leashed to her arm as she started to slam her fist visciously against the ground, hammering the trapped creature into the floor beside their light source repeatedly! And if that one became clearly defeated, Souma was already turning her attention towards snatching down any bats making for Kou and their light source!

Using the Forgehands - trapping the beast with her cable and using the A-rank Taijutsu weapon to batter the bat into pulp, if she can!

RGotta tell ya'll...this dark one? Sounds like a plain old wizard...or a fella playin with.."

It was at least a better explanation of the creatures, and was enough to put Himari at some ease. Still, if they were being altered to that degree, just what was the source of it? She certainly wasn't trying to take on just a religious excuse but more upon the facts. But then, there was plenty within the world that hardly had any real meaning behind it within reality. Some was just taken as what it was at face value. So maybe this was just as simple as what Kou made it out to be.

Despite her giving her peace, the comment was interrupted by the sudden burst of bats fluttering out from the darkness. With the release of the creatures soaring through and over them, the blonde would use her arm as a defense beside Kou, waiting for the pressure of their assault to pass. Yet, just as it seemed as if they had gained some relief, much louder beats seemed to echo through the tunnels. With Tadaomi using his blade to point upward, Himari would look to see the larger bats release a shriek as they surged downward toward them.

"Hope ya'll ready!"

Drawing out her Bokken, the female would defend one off with the wooden blade, seeing it take hold of the weapon's edge and attempt to yank it from her grip. With another seeming to fly in to scoop her upward, she'd draw back with her strength to swing upward, sending the two creatures into one another and into a flutter overhead. As the others worked to defend themselves, and her being closest to Kou, Himari would then move in to defend him, her body drawing into her chakra as she'd jump upward, her frame twisting around as she'd extend both heels outward to slam against another of the dog sized beast, sending it barreling into the wall before watching it scamper and attempt to regain it's flight.

"Guessin this part of the welcome group ya'll face before?"

In asking Kou this upon her landing, Himari would brace herself for the next attack, holding her weapon in both hands as her eyes narrowed in using the light of Kou's shield to aid her in his defense of him.

With this technique the user using their strength will leap into the air and raise up both feet and push forward into the opponents chest. This strike in particular has the potential to knock the wind out of the opponent as well as leave them short of breath for a few moments and could even knock them down. After performing the maneuver, if the strike successfully lands, the user kicks off of the chest of the opponent and is able to land on their feet.

The group of shinobi reacted much more quickly to the assault than their armored guide, weapons raised and swinging while Kou barely managed to get his own shield up. The bats continued to exhibit their high intelligence, just barely staying out of range of Tadaomi's arcing weapon while attempting to attack the rest of the group. One of them was painfully lassoed by steel cables before being reeled in and mercilessly slammed into the ground until it stoped moving.

Himari managed to defend Kou for the time being as she slammed one bat into another before jumping up and drop kicking another. All four bats were somewhat injured but remained alive as they fluttered back into the darkness, and while the shinobi couldn't see them, they could hear the sounds of sinew and bone grinding and squelching back together.

After a brief moment, the quartet of bats returned to the sphere of light with their injuries fully healed, and this time flying in a formation. They swooped in a straight line, dive-bombing towards Kou with the first immediately getting lassoed by Souma and pulled away. Their intelligence was shown off yet again as Tadaomi pointed his weapon towards the bats, firing off a blade of chakra in their direction as they approached, only for them to deftly disperse and evade the projectile before they slammed themselves multiple times into Kou's raised shield from different angles. The light wavered and shimmered for the first two hits, but the third sent a burst of light outwards before Kou's shield went dark. The group would immediately be swallowed by complete darkness, and shockingly, Souma would feel the bat by her feet suddenly flutter back to life, bones and flesh shifting as its ruse at playing dead paid off.

Thankfully, the darkness would only envelop them for a brief moment before the light returned, this time, emanating from Kou himself and shining brighter, brighter than the sun even. Strangely, this bright light didn't seem to blind the shinobi, but the shadowy bats writhed in pain in it, attempting to scamper or fly away. Tadaomi quickly shot another blade of chakra at one of the bats in the air before bringing his naginata's blade to the ground, properly cleaving the bat by Souma's feet in two before cutting slashing it once more for good measure.

"Stand firm friends! Kill them quickly as I can only hold this great light for a few moments more!"

"Good form, Himari-san!" Souma called out as the Jounin- special, but who's counting- delivered a blow that not only sent one of the bats near their guide flying, but smashed it into another, throwing them both off the assault. Grimacing at their departure into the shadows, Souma spoke quietly at the sound of their recovery. "That sounds... upsettingly close to what I thought clumsily knit flesh and bone would sound like. I am not sure what I expected- but it was not this unpleasant."

As expected, they beelined for Kou on their return, and the first in line was leashed and smashed to the ground between the stone and her fist- only for the light to falter, and draw her eyes towards the shield. Even as she took breath to shout a warning, the second, third blows struck- and darkness fell. Even worse, the squirming mess of shattered bone and flesh beside her, already thought defeated, writhed itself back to life, and Souma flicked the cable into a loop with a silent curse, preparing to leash it, too, to hold it off the others until-

Light blossomed, bloomed anew, and Tadaomi, as if prepared for its return, struck twice, once at an airborn bat and again- and again!- to finish off her first victim. "Thank you!" Souma called to the other Chuunin, hurling the other, prepared loop into the air to leash down one of the fleeing ones, securing it against her gauntlet opposite the first one that had made for Kou- and then proceeded to use the heads of the two bats as the world's messiest boxing gloves. Ruthlessly, she smashed her armored fists into the nearest stalagmite, putting the full extent of her medical training to the task of ensuring that there would be no chance of one of them "playing" dead this time, leaving the bat Tadaomi had sent chakra after- if, indeed, it had even survived- and one unscathed bat left for Himari to handle!

"Thank you, Kou-san!! Your light blesses us yet! Stay strong!"

Ya'll aint bad yaself Souma-girl! Huh?"

While they had claimed a win over the assault, it seemed that a tactful retreat was in order for most of the bats as they drew back into the darkness. They certainly weren't shy about it either, making their displeasure known to all while they flew off with their figurative tails between their legs. But as the noises seemed to continue and not growing distant, they would come forth again once more, this time apparently more willing to throw down then before as they attempted to consume everything and take down their remaining light source and Kou.

While Tadaomi and Souma mounted a defense to help hold the beasts at bay, they continued to come at the shield bearer, with Himari doing what she could to sway them from getting closer, deftly attempting to combat them with her Bokken. But soon enough, Kou's shield would release what seemed to be a final burst of light, and then all would become dark. Shuffling silently back, the former champion would clench her teeth, hearing the sounds and scratching all around her, tightening her grip upon her weapon before hearing a shriek before a burst of light would resonate the area yet again.

With fangs and claws inches from her face, the light seemed to blind the creatures and cause them to flee and try to escape it. Yet as Souma began to work upon one that had attempted to leave, Tadaomi would help with another and Kou would call for them to finish the bats quickly.

"No need to tell me twice sug!"

As one still remained in it's attempt to charge at away, Himari would apply chakra to her lower limbs to propel herself toward it, shifting her body to the side at the last second to take hold the bat's head as she came up behind it from the side, ducking beneath flapping wings and struggling, the young woman would flip herself backward before slamming the bat downward into the ground, her frame rolling off it's stunned features before she'd drive her heel down upon it's head, crushing it with a single stomp.

"It wasn't just me that noticed they weren't too beat up bout earlier right? All like they just...came right back from a beatdown without a scratch to em..."
