They weren't drugged and poisoned... This was an instant improvement over the Kirigakure chuunin exams. Konsho was never letting that go. The trip was cramped and uncomfortable, but Konsho would not show any of that to those around him. Instead he stood tall in his cloak, showing no signs of discomfort. Once they were released, Konsho would breath a quiet sigh of relief until the task was explained.

Ah... stealth. Konsho had a feeling he wasn't making it far into this exam. Still, the familiarity with the country and hunting experience should carry him most of the way. Watching the headbands that past him, Konsho would note a surprising number of Takigakure shinobi had started heading down the plains. Well... the old adage of the path less traveled didn't tend to go well. Besides, better to travel in numbers. Meant they could regroup and plan later.

Before he would go, Konsho would flash his head band a few times to signify for the other Takigakure shinobi to group to him. Taking charge for anyone who came to him, Konsho would give them a basic run down of the Iwagakure wild life and layout of the land. In honesty, a native would likely notice any flaws in their disguises- but at least this way they'd actually have a starting point. If any would be willing, he would also hand out wireless radios to the other shinobi so they could keep in contact throughout the exams.

Once it was time for him to actually sneak himself, Konsho would decide to take the method of hiding in plain sight. Taking off his cloak, turning it into a make shift bag in which he would hide his headband and entrance badge, among various items and a book. Afterwards, Konsho would utilize the transformation technique to hide as a civilian. To any observer, he would seem to merely be a hiker. On any of the other paths, this would seem strange to say the least. But with the rolling smooth plains- the idea that a random civilian had just decided to go for a walk shouldn't seem that strange to most... Hopefully.

[Natsuo Jokyū]

Natsuo came to the first round of the exams a little less prepared than usual, opting to only bring his sword out of his multitude of heavy weapons. He left his trident and dual cleavers with his sensei since he didn't want to give too much away too early. It seemed that his decision was smart though, after a short boat ride they were given instructions. Azarea had offered to team up on the boat ride, to which the boy gave a simple nod. Since they had to be stealthy though, Natsuo was pretty happy that he had left his cleavers with his sensei, they could get pretty loud. 

Eventually, they made it to their destination. Azarea had apparently made the same offer to Natsuo's teammate, Suzaku Kyuumu. The boy hadn't worked with him much, he'd only recently been put on the same team as him after all. The two of them seemed set on the LEFT PLAINS ROUTE, Natsuo followed them simply. "There's not as much that I can do with sneaking around. At least, not compared to yall. Once we get to the obstacles I'll be as useful as possible though!" He would say to Azarea and Suzaku once he caught up to them. He'd stick close as Azarea had requested, though he wasn't exactly sure how breathing underground would work. Hopefully, it'd be fine.

Eleventh Chuunin Exams: Round One!

Race in the Shadows!

There'd be a mixture of reactions, but it'd seem the majority of folk decided to not charge off at the start gun. Perhaps this would make those in a rush question there decisions or those who've teamed up consider how much times lost. It'd seem the majority of the shinobi shared a mind on the path to be taken, as eighteen shinobi take the left plains and sixteen of the shinobi went the right forest path. At the lead of the left plains would be Okada Goro, as they'd go immediately, alone and with chakra pushing them forward. On the right forest path an Utsuki would lead the pact, they'd drop training weights at the start and with the speed of their clan create quite the impactful start.

Every other route would take no more than five shinobi, Shinde in the lead on the left mountain route, Sogo taking the right, a Furinkazen from Kusa would lead the road on horse and Ama who'd change into their half fish form would rocket through the water in the canal. Those who'd gone at the start and alone would find themselves maybe comparing speeds or paths of others, but at this point would more so lose the main crowd. Murahira Hana would attempt to take a lead on the right forest path, however she'd have the option to slow down for Shosuke who wanted to team up or Shosuke could exert themselves to catch up. However if one didn't yield they'd be split up from this point.

Every shinobi regardless of teams or solo, whether they were loud or quiet would find themselves arriving at the first check point unspotted. It'd been the general birds eye view from before that told them there was nothing, but those who had advanced senses this would feel incredibly deceiving. Despite no one seeing shinobi or guards, beyond the shinobi participating. Those sensors pinging for chakra would likely be unsettled. Obviously at the start the city behind them and just the upped security for the event meant there was well over a hundred signatures nearby at the start. Worryingly enough there'd be pings though that'd surround and follow all the contestants. They'd move with the contestants, but seem to stay directly out of sight. On top of this oddity, there'd be clear varying signatures assigned to everyone's badge. Though this was likely discerned much earlier, all contestants are required to keep their badges on them the whole exam. Even out of competition.

To anyone who'd either teamed up or taken the route ahead casually, it'd become slightly clearer a trouble all of them would be having. Spotting an abnormality in a wide are was tough, but for those in the left plains and right forest, especially those in the plains. There'd be this sense of, if you do a full 360 look around you'll spot someone or the actions of someone. Four paths had a rough squad dispersed, while the left plain and right forest had a small battalion on the move.

-Optional Routes-

Left Mountain Route: The nice little road provided by the left mountain wouldn't make it all the way to the check point, but upon reaching the check point. Which would be at a slight height of the mountain route, they'd see that the mountainous path became a mess of jagged rocks. It'd be hard to judge direction, but it simply looked uninhabited by any means. Remaining closer to the original path and avoiding the edge of the left plains terrain, the land would be easier to traverse, but high enough to stick out for people who might be out of sight. Finally if those on the mountain choose to more closely ride the left plain, they'd find a nice gradient to traverse equal amount of rocks to hide behind, as vantage points to scout a head. It's close to the plain route though, so could deal with the mess who went left.

Left Plains Route: The rough horse trails, seem to trail more so to the center of this plain, as right over a hill past the check point appears to be a dirt race track. The track has guards loosely placed around it, as well as there seems to be two horse back guards doing a massive circle around the entirety of this plains stretch. The terrain is more flat than not, the closer to the race ring anyone got. However going around the track would mean either skimming close to the road path, which had even more security and traffic OR going close to the mountain route. Which would have decent cover, but a somewhat clear 'hidden road'. It had the feeling of leading to a military structure.

Center Road Route: Shortly after the checkpoint the road has a very clear road block, there a guards pacing back and forth around the boards of the road path, as well as a small security wagon that's being used to round up drunks and trouble makers. This path has some very light hills, there's not much in the form of brush, but there are two small houses down the road. Though the first of which has smoke coming out the chimney seems, this route will require shinobi skill entirely.

Center Canal Route: The Canal has guards loosely walking up and down the side of it, the real issue though is there's two locks. Due to this one would need a means to pass through metal or leave the water, otherwise one would have to wait for the steel doors to take in or let out water to close. These canal locks have a security building, but the person on duty seems to be more clearly watching out for ships needing to go one way or the other.

Right Forest Route: The Forest continues to remain mostly lush, there's a small cabin in the middle of it, but it seems to be completely vacant. The guards for the forest seem to be more so placed by the canal, but there's a few guards patrolling the woods. It's incredibly hard to tell the direction one is going in the woods without sticking to the canal or closer to the mountain side. This 'path' clearly wasn't cleared out to be one, so there was no obvious sense of direction.

Right Mountain Route: There wasn't a path and sticking to where the forest is or can be visible at times, there doesn't seem to be a real path here. The distance between jagged rocks expands and the path 'down' to the forest is pretty much straight down. This is likely the only route one could take and actually be risking their life, at least that's how it'd feel at this point. Continuing down this route seems to only get harder.

Right Mountain Path: Straying into the chaos of the mountain and further away from any original path, there does seem to be a path that's safe to travel and verse slightly right this stretch.

Round One: Checkpoint 1 Results

Everyone will be posting below for each of your characters once. You're to be making a post which describes your characters method for picking a path, then anything special they'll do to either get an edge in the race aspect or keep on top of the stealth aspect of this round. You will not be determining the effectiveness of your decisions, you will not have any actual say over others posts either. You'll even be allowed to edit your post, but if you do so you'll have to make Yoshiko or Meep aware you've done so. Otherwise we might go off of whatever was originally posted if reviewed.

You'll have roughly a week each rotation, with all posts this rotation expected to be done on the 14th. I'll reply to your posts on the 15th with the results of the second stretch, as well as give descriptions of what paths will follow. Bare in mind these paths are 'loosely' explained, so know they'll be massive stretches with some space to allow creative liberty. Though you'll usually do better giving a vague plan than ultra descript one. Based on what you reply each person will be assigned a certain number of hours, as well as whether or not they'd been spotted and/or disqualified.

On one hand Uta felt as if this was, so far at least, far easier than it had any right to be. On the other she didn’t exactly feel like she had too many other options to continuing forward. Her stealth abilities were fairly non existent, and so hiding in plain sight seemed like her best option. She was fairly sure they would have had someone tracking her, making sure she was doing her work properly, but it felt simply unfair if part of the exam was loosing them. No, it was likely that it only really mattered if she was caught by the security that lay ahead of her. The road block was manufactured, Uta felt fairly confident in that. It was something that had been put in place primarily due to the exams taking place. That meant the guards couldn’t have just been looking for drunkards, and the guards pacing back forth were going to be going any suspicious activities with a great deal of scrutiny. It seemed to Uta like her best bet was just to act as if she belonged. Marching along in her ninjutsu disguise and walking at a brisk pace. Not running, not speed walking, but certainly not a light stroll. A walk that said she was in a hurry. She simply hoped that doing this would make most people look past her. She wasn’t causing trouble. quite the contrary she’s actually avoid headed towards any of the shrubberies or houses. She wasn’t going to hide herself, and if guards asked what she was doing, she was simply on her way home to Kuwana. Returning home from a lovely trip in the mountains.

[Aburame Azarea]

The Devil That You Forgot

Down Under

"All right Suzaku you're up. Have your crows let us know when patrol's clear. I'm picking up a mess of signatures with my chakra senses so we can't trust them alone." Azarea explained as she beelined for the Road Path of the Left Plains Route. The woman flicking through a few handseals performing the Underground Fish Projection technique as she reaches out to grab Suzaku and Natsuo by the arm as they drop through the earth. Burrowing down into the dirt as they continue rushing forward making up time not in speed, but in not having to stop to take cover or avoid patrols.

Azarea would remain underground until Suzaku's crows and her chakra senses pinged the all clear. Between the natural air flow from where they had initially entered and her Air Tank with it's own attached mask she could pass between the three of them for breaths when needed the trio didn't need to surface early or until signaled. Allowing the group to dig their way forward and eventually out and continue running at their hard pace the moment Suzaku and Azarea's senses let them know it was time to do so.

Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria [Queen's Coronation Regalia]
A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

Reigning Chakra Control
Fine tuning her chakra control to a razor's edge Azarea is capable of performing delicate techniques with minimal to no wastage of chakra. Allowing her to conserve her reserves in prolonged combat and managed more finickity techniques and jutsu.

Kagura Mind's Eye
Born with a natural affinity towards sensing chakra like her Father before her Azarea has trained herself to become a capable sensory shinobi. Unlocking the Kagura's Mind's Eye, and with it, the ability to passively sense chakra signatures in the distance (when using the technique), thus allowing her to not only track, but also memorize a person's chakra signature, even if barely any chakra is being used. Due to her proficiency with this technique, Azarea can currently passively sense chakra up to 500 meters and actively at 2.5 kilometers.

This ability allows the user to find, sense, and track individuals through their chakra over vast range that exceeds ten kilometers. This is done by focusing and opening the mind's eye, though due to the low chakra cost many users keep it active often. The ability also extends to telling when a person is lying from the fluctuations in a person's chakra made from dishonest emotions or detecting if someone, including the user, is under a genjutsu. Also by focusing on a particular chakra, the user can perceive its location and movement with great detail.

[attr="class","goro"]Goro would notice a large number of contestants that followed behind him as the race began, and another splitting off to the forests. After an hour's run, however, Goro paused at a bush, looking ahead at the guards that circled with their horses. It didn’t look safe to continue forward on this path.

The point was to not be seen and arrive as soon as you could, right? You can’t arrive at all if you were caught. With that thought in mind, Goro let one or two contestants pass him, waiting for a chance to split to play a bit more unfairly than he would have liked. It was, however, a competition to the end.

Staying more towards the left of the plains, Goro took he took one smoke bomb and one flash bomb and quickly attached them together before chucking them high and far toward a small cluster of competitors as far as he could towards the center road route and then flickering for the left mountain route as soon as the smoke and flare would go off, hiding momentarily in the rubble of the jagged rock to see if there were any guards responding in the immediate area.

Using solid speed and strength still applied, he would listen closely to whatever chaos ensued in the left plains while rushing between the jagged rocks, doing his best to stay out of sight completely from the left plains. Should he feel himself slip from the rock, he would easily apply his chakra to grip. He hoped that the sound alone would allow him to keep his trajectory on the path until it was far enough behind him to either continue forward or swap again if needed.

His intent was obvious: distract the guards well away from their vision of him while he hid in the mountains to speed away further ahead. Of course, this also meant that anyone running behind those that managed to pass him in the bushes here or there was now coming up on a battalion of alarmed guards. He would laugh to himself, admittedly proud of the chaos he had likely caused.

No one said it was a team race.

Arakawa Kaida

Kaida accepts a radio from Konsho so they can stay in contact. The red headed Taki nin listening raptly as the other boy uses his knowledge of Iwa wilflife to describe the various flora and fauna as she notes down which ones would be closest to her and Saga in size in order to help them sneak most effectively. As they come up on the patrols the girl nudges her partner in the side. "Let's transform into deer. Deer rarely move alone so with there being two of us it'll be less suspicious if we meander our way through the field and even more fitting if we bolt and spook a bit at the guards." She explains forming the seals as she performs the Transformation Technique and turning into a local Tsuchi no Kuni deer before veering towards the Road Path.

DESCRIPTION:
After performing the necessary hand seals, the user transforms their appearance to become that of another person, animal or even an inanimate object. This is considered one of the most advanced academy techniques, as it requires a constant emission of chakra as well as constant mental focus to maintain the transformation. Shinobi are limited to transforming into objects roughly their own size, preventing them from turning into a fly while being able to carry items far greater than their transformed state.

"Chuunin Exams: Round 1". "How can you move forward if you keep on regretting the past?" LIZARDS AND DEERS They took their time proceeding to the very first checkpoint in their path, and fortunately, everything seemed to have worked out well for the Waterfall Shinobi following the left plains route. The path took them to a more central part of the plains, to a horse track where some guards seemed to be placed around. There were other guards on horse back doing massive circles around the area. Now they needed to be careful, as getting spotted was a real risk, and one that could cost them their future in the exams. Now that they would be dealing with guards, and they had to make sure to avoid them, Saga knew he could rely on one of his summons to help him make sure they would be able to steer clear from the guards. With a quick set of hand seals and a bite on his thumb to draw some blood, he would place his hand on the ground. "Kuchiyose no Jutsu!" he whispered. In a poof of smoke, a small, green lizard with brown-like tones and black scales on it's backside appeared. He was small and long. "Koza, I need your help." he started and the lizard nodded. "I need you to use your smell to make sure we steer clear from the guards! We can't be found." he explained, and Koza nodded once again. With the aid of the lizard, who could smell for 100 kilometres, Saga was confident they could now avoid heading towards guards as they proceeded, cautiously through the left plains route. When Kaida mentioned the idea of transforming into a deer, he looked surprised for a second but then he quickly nodded a few times. "Good idea, Kaida! With Koza's nose and our deception tactics, we should be able to conquer this challenge! Henge!" and with that being said, he would transform himself into a deer, and follow the Road Path with Kaida, and Koza alerting them of any guards on their path, so they could adjust accordingly. "There is no such a thing as a painless lesson, they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary; you can't gain something without losing something..." Saga was born with a huge chakra pool, which allows him to use more jutsu than his peers. His large reserves also highly benefit his training in Senjutsu. His chakra pool makes it hard for the young man to be outlasted in a battle of chakra against his peers. This makes him capable of using stronger jutsu more often without tiring out, as well as jutsu which require continuous chakra flow to be sustained before running out of juice.

As a Space-Time Ninjutsu, this technique is capable of instantly displacing an intended summon from wherever they may be to the requested location, though there are obstacles that can prevent this. To use this jutsu, one must first make a contract with whatever they are summoning, living creature or not. Both the size and the stamina of what a shinobi calls upon increases the demand of chakra they must spend to perform the jutsu.

Shinobi are limited to transforming into objects roughly their own size, preventing them from turning into a fly while being able to carry items far greater than their transformed state.

Koza is small, green lizard with brown-like tones & black scales on it's backside. He's incredibly small, but also decently long. Having a height of less than two inches, and a length of 24.
Personality:
Cool, calm, and collected mute. Koza does not talk, and simply listens. You'll never see a change of expression on him, and he's dutiful to a fault. He's more than willing to die in the line of duty, and albeit he shows no reaction, he's highly fiery when it comes to performing tasks.
Abilities:
[Tracker]: Koza has an intense sense of smell. This is his greatest and most emphasized capability. He can use his olfactory sense to smell the directional position of an individual for [100 Kilometers]. With this, he can also alert his summoning of his general location.

[Travel Speeds]: Koza can travel quickly, beyond quickly, rivaling elite speeds, and can maintain that for long period of time. However, much of this is useless due to his lack of defensive and offensive capabilities, but he's a tracker through and through.

All the nerds that had tried to keep pace with her? Dust in her shadow at this point. Reaching a point where things were getting a bit sketchier though just made the girl want to get flashier despite knowing she couldn't. Her stern look of concentration a sign to the lax kind of glee the teal-haired genin was in as she propelled herself from jagged rocky pass to jagged rocky pass. Using the Wind Release: Stream technique and the Tree-Climbing Technique when she could not immediately skirt and bounce around with her board using the forward momentum pushing her forward as hard as possible. Her ability to stay out of view seemed semi-compromised by the world as she continued on the Original Right Mountain Route unabashed by the danger.

It was a grand ploy for her as well as her fast movement wind-based style of movement would hopefully continue to push her ahead at a rate that made it at least hard to recognize her, even as she put on her oni mask to hide her face and help with breathing in the thinner air that she was sure to experience. If the girl could grin when she was happy she would be, but her scowl instead grew deeper.

Apart from enhancing speed, this technique gives the user the ability to walk on water and evade projectile attacks with ease.

DESCRIPTION:
A basic Fūton no Jutsu that a Shinobi uses to blow a powerful stream of wind from their mouth. The technique is mostly used to change directions in mid-air. In this case, the strength of the stream is powerful enough to move the source body at high speeds. On the ground, it can be used to blow up a cloud of dust, masking the caster's movements. It can also be used offensively to stagger an opponent's movement.

Tsuri took a few moments to ponder and look around from her underwater position. It didn't seem like a boat was going to come and she couldn't risk waiting super long. So she just had to be extra aggressive about what she decided to do in terms of pushing along the checkpoint. Taking out Hakugei and channeling chakra Tsuri would turn the single hook of Machigai into a mixture using Hirogeru. Turning the tool into a quick launch grapping tool with a wide grip to make sure it could grasp the steel above as she further prepared a distraction to let her propel grasp and rush up and over the wall. Though it would alert of her presence. She was not alone though, Hakugei was here with her. Swimming to the area closest to the security building as to be below it and somewhat hiding in angle before breaking barely out of the water and throwing a smoke bomb at the guard tower's relevant screen for the guard or shinobi inside before casting Machigai upwards at an angle to latch the side and catch the side of the wall. Using the wire chord's retraction and Tree-Climbing as a hopefully useful distraction for her to get past the lift lock without actually being spotted.

It all depended really on the smoke bomb as she would reach the top and have Hakugei unclench and begin folding back in as she sunk into the water again to move forward. Pushing the attached life blade back under her jacket as she kept herself moving forward under the water.

DESCRIPTION:
By sending a small charge of chakra, the user is capable of expanding their weapon into various small to medium shapes and forms. This can be used to create barriers to block attacks or to create human like forms to distract opponents. The jutsu can even be used to create items like shovels temporarily to lift heavy objects that the user would be incapable of doing themselves. However, the speed of this jutsu is rather lacking, making it difficult to use in fast paced battle.

Hotarubi had no interest in the performance of his other candidates but it would have helped if they did. They carried on together for a long portion of time and where they were faster than he: he was more consistent with his pacing and it would catch up to him. The very low cost of his technique made it easy for him to maintain the form for a long period of time. He would help out where he could with the little flicker of his form, whipping up a bit of dust around his teammates. That came to an end when the new path would show: and he would evaluate from his... dusty position. What options were there? As far as he was concerned, he was quite well invisible. Well. Not invisible, but who would pay attention to a bit of dust from the wind? He was out for himself in this race. Hotarubi took the central, most obvious path - the one with the most "military" guarding. His form continued to be like dust, the thin veil sticking close to the ground as the rest of his ephemeral body followed along. Sure, if they had chakra enhanced sight - or chakra sensory, then they would have spotted him. Obviously, but then so would have all of the other candidates as well. He had no obvious understanding of why the rest of his equipment followed or how it worked, but it did. He took the direct route going around the plains as opposed to a direction with more to hide from. Why did he need to hide? Him having established into a pattern would make it easy for him to pass through. He hoped. When he caught up with one of the guards, he would have stayed by them - using the same dirt the horse was naturally kicking up to continue moving around the track. Perfect concealment. But that was his arrogance talking. This dirt has no offensive capabilities whatsoever and is used to slip through places a human body normally can’t or through phase through attacks. They cannot phase through liquid-related attacks nor can they actually attack while in their dirt form. As such, it is more suited for reconnaissance and espionage purposes.

She was losing ground, but it seemed that she would be able to make it up if she could keep herself moving towards Kuwana without getting caught. All the other Konoha brats had found their way into the forest, and if she didn't want to get close to any particular paved route she would just need to find the area as far out as she could and travel from there. To that order a cut of her thumb and a hiss as she formed her handseals to call back her companions she would place a palm to the earth, "Kuchiyossse no Jutsssu." The words were quiet and the puff of smoke would reveal the youngest of the massive kyodaija, a only four foot long snake, Sune was nothing to write home about, but his sense of smell was extremely solid as a basis of travel. Yaki would soften her eyes to a more tired expression and lower her scarf, "If y' could Sssune-kun I could use y' 'sssistance. The canal isss close enough you should be able to sssmell it yeah? I need y' to climb on an' coil 'round me while I travel an' keep me updated to stay close enough to the canal 'bout half a kilo think y' can do that?" "Sssoundsss good to me bosss! Letsss move yeah?" Sune would respond moving to the canal close enough to inhale a strong scent of the water and moist air while Yaki popped a hydration and food pill. Returning the summon would round about the girl, thanks to her training with absurd weight on her body the coiling snake was nothing, helping her follow the canal at a less cautious speed as she no longer needed to stay as close by. Its full length only extending to roughly 4ft, this lesser snake pales in comparison to its counterpart. Still, regardless of his overall size, the jagged, near dagger-like pattern his scales take tend to intimidate larger prey, despite his lack of true combat readiness. A tan underbelly is the most calming of the creature’s physical qualities. PERSONALITY: A stark contrast to most of his kin, Sune is readily available to assist most humans in need; this is only further reinforced by his near dire need to complete any task given by his summer. [Yasuraka Hitsukai]

After having set out from the starting point, Hitsukai had proceeded at a relatively slow pace in an attempt to help sell the impression that he was not here for the chuunin exams to any would be observers. Unfortunately for him, the path that had led up to the shrine within the mountains on the Left Mountain Route seemed to dead end at the shrine. He had truly hoped it would have continued on, but it made sense that a road through the mountains was unnecessary when there were more suitable travel paths to either side. He had wasted too much time with his slow traveling and so he would make a decision upon reaching the shrine and seeing the chaotic rock face that was his path forward.

While he could have traversed down the mountain and to the forest that ran alongside it, he figured that he had to try and take advantage of the time he had expended getting to where he was. Hitsukai took a moment to don the outer layer of his warrior robes, the orange had served it's purpose and would only serve to draw eyes once he moved to the jagged rocks; hopefully the black color of the warrior robes would be a little bit less obvious against the grey stone of the mountain. Besides, the additional layer would help him deal with the cold of the mountain. While he was experienced with the cold of the desert nights within Sunagakure, it was still something to be take precautions against so as to not leech away his energy unnecessarily.

Once his clothing was situated, Hitsukai took several moments to take deep breaths as he prepared to go forward. He had no real means of improving his stealth, so instead he would need to rely on his speed at this point. Hopefully the difficult terrain of the mountain would make it less likely for individuals to easily track him, but he understood that shinobi had many tools in their arsenal for detecting individuals where they were not supposed to be.

In an instant, the monk took off in a sprint; the weights that pressed down onto his body had the force they were exerting on him transferred down and into the ground just as he kicked off from it to throw himself forward by using the *Heavenly Stride technique. Additionally, to aid with the chaotic and irregular surfaces of the jagged rocks he was traversing into, Hitsukai planned to make used of the *Rabbit Walk technique where required to aid in his quick maneuvering of the difficult terrain.

[Kayahara Urikohime]

Urikohime felt a little bit assured that she had at least made a reasonable choice, if not the right one, as she traversed through the forest, moving among the tree branches as she made her way along the practically non-existent path that was the Right Forest Route. To keep her bearing and sense of direction, the green haired girl followed the canal route, although she made sure not to either get too close to the canal, or come down from the branches among which she leaped and ran. While moving on the ground would probably be a little faster, she would also likely be spotted more easily if she stayed on the ground. She also decided not to take the path closer to thee mountains, as the heights could provide places on which guards could stand, and thus reduce her advantage of traveling high in the tree canopy. If any of the guards were shinobi capable of using the Tree Climbing Skill, that would surely be a problem, but the truth was that if there were guards with such skill, she would normally be hard-pressed dealing with avoiding detection by them.

All the same, Uriko would not move directly above the canal. She chose to have about one tree thickness of vegetation between her and the canal, keeping the watercourse to her right as she traveled. In order not to get lost, after roughly two hundred steps, she would move a bit to her left, just to make sure she was keeping along the track of the canal. Uriko was beginning to feel that, aside the apparently uninhabited cabin in the woods, there did not seem to be that much presence within the forest, until she though she saw some movement through the trees. Guards! It would make sense that they would be stationed along the canal. In any case, concerning them, and regarding any guards she would meet, Uriko would move higher in the tree canopy for a limited time, using the sun as a direction aid while she traveled closer to the top of the trees. Then after some distance, she would descend and keep moving, while keeping her eyes peeled for movement, as well as maintaining her camouflage Henge. At the same time, she would ensure she kept away from more well-lit areas. Even with her Henge, she was not transparent, and could still cast shadows.

TL;DR: Uriko keeps traveling using Kinobori no Waza to stay high up in the trees, while using the canal as a direction aid, but taking care not to travel too close to the canal, instead traveling with a line of trees between her and the canal, and periodically checking back to make sure she isn't unwittingly traveling away from the canal. If/when she notices guards, she will ascend higher, using the sun as a direction aid while she travels much higher up. After some while, she will descend again, though she never gets to ground level. Her camouflage Henge is maintained, as she avoids large patches of open space to prevent making obvious shadows.

DESCRIPTION:
An advanced genin level technique, it serves as a means to both enhance chakra control when mastered as well as a means to change one's advantages on the battlefield. By applying chakra to the soles of the feet, the shinobi gains the ability to walk and stand on vertical surfaces or even upside down.

They'd managed to make it to the first checkpoint without being spotted and disqualified, which was a major accomplishment as far as Junichi was concerned. Part of him had been expecting to fail the second the race began, though teaming up with Sadako had made that sense less powerful. Still, it was a little disheartening to watch as many shinobi rocketed ahead, beating out his and Sadako's time by who knows what margin. Slow and steady was a safe way to play, but it certainly wouldn't win any races, no matter what the folktales said.

The paths diverged into several routes from here, the nice mountain road no longer an option for casual travel. Instead there was a higher path, jutting above sight lines and being incredibly visible, an incredibly jagged and difficult to traverse path, and a path that was nearer to the left plains, but seemed much easier to traverse and hide in.

The latter most seemed like the best option to progress. Junichi wasn't confident in his ability to handle the more wild path, and he didn't have the resources necessary to remain invisible on the top path.

"Let's take the way closer to the plains," Junichi suggested to Sadako, hesitant, like she might have a better plan already forming in her head. "Because there's more cover, we can probably afford to pick up the pace."

If Sadako found this agreeable, then he would proceed through the next area more quickly, keeping his eyes peeled. He kept his surface dyeing technique up in the hopes of maintaining good cover if they needed to hide.
