On the journey there he schools her a little in the art of poison-making, showing her one of the most common ways to extract and manufacture tinctures from toxic plantlife. The two swap stories and begin to learn about one another. Finding that they not only have some common interests, but similar pasts as well. An unexpected surprise.

Happening upon a crying child named Kota he initially takes pity on him and helps to repair his toy. After chatting with him he finds the boy has a knack for puppetry... and also sees a bit of himself reflected back at him. Deciding to put on a puppet show to raise funds for his materials he teaches Kota the fundamentals of the Kugutsu no Jutsu. The child catches on quick and the two reenact a moving story from Kota's childhood called 'The Wolf Who Ate The World'. Due to the youth's energy, penchant for storytelling, and budding puppetry skills they finish the tale to uproarious applause. Uemon gives him a majority of the profits and the two part ways for the meantime.

DESCRIPTION: Some time after Taki blows up at him, Uemon returns to Kuwana. The two reconcile to remain friends, speak of future plans, and she offers to help him out further with his budding Sensory abilities. An eyesight-restricted training session ensues, with Uemon only able to find his targets by sensing their chakra. It takes some doing but eventually he succeeds in tracking and fighting by sense alone. All that's left now is to test its use in the field.

Meeting at an abandoned estate that once belonged to the Uda Clan both men catch up briefly before discussing business: Uemon's plan for revenge. Before he can be dissuaded by Yanosuke a passing patrol of samurai find them. His identity is discovered, and the two are forced to fight for their lives. Though victorious, Yanosuke is shocked by his nephew's reliance on poison and propensity for violence. Eventually he agrees to give Uemon intel on Kira Yoshitada, the man responsible for his father's death but only after warning his nephew of the cost of vengeance. Uemon thanks him, and the two part ways for now.
