full Overview

Sage Mode is an empowered state that can be entered by blending natural energy with one's chakra, creating senjutsu chakra. Sage Mode allows users to tap into the natural force of the world. It is a unique state only capable by the Sage or Sage Apprentices.

As a Sage, one's Sage Mode is divided into varying levels based off of mastery of the art. These levels included: [Initial Sage Mode], [Imperfect Sage Mode], [Perfect Sage Mode]. Each provide their own levels of enhancements of general techniques and skills.

the Sage Modes

[Initial (Imperfect) Sage Mode]: Typically a level gained off initial usage of the transformation, commonly seen in apprentices or those who can evoke but can't control the Senjutsu Chakra circulating in their bodies properly, either due to a condition, lack of skill, or other circumstances. Their appearances are very animalistic, almost seeming more like their animal of choice than a humanoid.

▣ | This stage is able to have 2 Enhancements based around their sage animal and its characteristics, highlighting the imperfect balance between them and their animalistic transformation.

[Experienced (Imperfect) Sage Mode]: This level is for those who've adapted to the powerful natural chakra within their bodies, and can circulate it decently. Those who evoke this level of Sage Mode maintain their human figure, but their animals are still apart of them, almost 50/50 in appearance.

▣ | This stage is between that of an Initial and Perfect. This gives the option of 3 Enhancements.

[Perfect Sage Mode]: The pinnacle control of Sage Mode only obtainable by the absolute highest mastery of the art. They have perfect control over the natural chakra circulating through their bodies. They have very slight changes, to their eyes, to markings, teeth, etc. It is said in this stage, one can even merge their innate or unique characteristics into their sage mode to manifest miraculous forms.

▣ | The height of a Sage and all they have come to learn and know. Through vast and grueling training they are able to hone the art of 4 Enhancements.

Enhancements

The Sage mode is largely consistent in its enhancements even between different Sage animals. A Sage's final collection of abilities should generally come off the specific animal and general lists below, though unique abilities can be submitted and judged for approval. This is only allowed if the ability still pertain to the animal the sage's abilities are based on.

EXAMPLE ENHANCEMENTS:

Enhanced Physical Attributes:
▣ | Body SAs [Passive] - Choose 1 full-strength or 2 half-strength from enhanced strength, durability, speed, agility, or reaction time.
▣ | Perception SAs [Passive] - Choose 1 full-strength or 2 half-strength from enhanced sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch.
▣ | Enhanced Pain Resistance SAs [Active] - Capable of reducing residual pain from wounds by one grade on the Pain Chart. Cannot heal actual damage from injuries, but reduces the pain of them.

Enhanced Jutsu, excluding Senjutsu Arts:
▣ | Elemental SAs [Active] - Choose stronger enhancement to techniques of 1 element.
▣ | Elemental Combination SAs [Active] - Choose 2 elements to be able to effectively utilize in tandem. These elements must maintain their independent properties and cannot mimic a KKG elemental combination - for example, one can imbue a suiton ninjutsu with raiton to increase its lethality, but it cannot mimic the properties of the Storm Release.
▣ | Skill SAs [Active] - Choose stronger enhancements to 1 branch of techniques. This branch must be specific, ex: a specific sword style, a specific family of suiton ninjutsu, or a select style of barriers.

Chakra Sensory:
▣ | Chakra Sensory SA [Active] - Enhanced Chakra Reserves results in lower area reading and less accuracy than a dedicated sensory SA. A Sage's sensory perceptions will be less than those of a user with Chakra Control, and will have a margin of error of 6 meters.
Chakra Sensing Ranges Relative to Rank:

Active - Focusing on the area, asserting more chakra into the sense.
Passive - The range in which a shinobi can sense without supplying more than the bare minimum chakra.

Elite Jounin:
Active: 1km / Passive: 200m

Jounin:
Active: 300m / Passive: 60m

Chuunin:
Active: 100m / Passive: 20m

Genin:
Active: 25m / Passive: 5m

Acute Manipulation of Natural Energies:
▣ | Peaceful Meditation - Still meditation yields an additional amount as noted on the chart below.
▣ | Tranquil River - Greater control of Natural Energy leads to a lowered cost to maintain Sage Mode as noted in the chart below.
▣ | Steady Body - Greater control of Natural Energy leads a lowered cost to utilize Active abilities as noted on the chart below.
▣ | Steady Mind - Greater control of Natural Energy leads to an increased Threat Cap as noted on the chart below.
▣ | Patient Chakra - Greater control of the ratio of Physical, Spiritual, and Natural Energy leads to an increased Stone Ceiling as noted on the chart below.

Meditation, Maintenance, and Threat

Sage Mode has its advantages & disadvantages. However, they also have their own subset of rules. The most important rule of a Sage is their requirement to become one with nature to gather its energy. This is because one must be [Completely Still] during this process. There are methods to circumvent this, but it is still key. For every round of still meditation a Sage performs, they will accumulate a certain number of "points" that can be spent to maintain their Sage Mode, utilize Active Abilities, or perform Senjutsu.

The below table details several key features of Sage Mode.

1-Round Still Meditation
This value explains the number of points a Sage generates by maintaining one round of still meditation. The +Enhancement column details the additional amounts a Sage can gain if they dedicate one of their Sage Enhancements to additional gathering (Peaceful Meditation in the example Enhancements above).

Cost to Maintain Sage Mode
This value explains the number of points a Sage must expend per round in order to maintain their Sage Mode into their next turn. The +Enhancement column details the reductions a Sage can gain if they take an Enhancement dedicated to maintaining their Sage Mode (Tranquil River in the example Enhancements above).

Cost to use Active Abilities
This value explains the number of points a Sage must expend in order to utilize one of their Active Enhancements. The +Enhancement column details the reductions a Sage can gain if they take an Enhancement dedicated to excelling with a particular Active Ability (Steady Body in the example Enhancements above).

Cost to use Passive Abilities
This value explains the number of points a Sage must expend in order to utilize one of their Passive Enhancements. Passive Enhancements only cost 1 point to use, so have no related +Enhancements.

Threat Cap
This value explains the maximum number of points a Sage can maintain at a single time. Exceeding this number of points will result in a Sage's system becoming overloaded and turning to stone. The +Enhancement column details the ability for a Sage to raise their Threat Cap if they take an Enhancement dedicated to handling and maintaining more Natural Chakra (Steady Mind in the example Enhancements above).

Stone Ceiling
In order to properly and safely mix Nature Chakra within the body, a sage must have enough of their own chakra to meet a 2:1 ratio. Attempting to draw in Natural Chakra when the body is already exhausted of its own chakra will result in the body turning to stone. To mechanically represent this threat, there is a calculation determining the maximum amount of pts a Sage can spend within a given thread. The +Enhancement column details the ability for a Sage to raise their Stone Ceiling if they take an Enhancement dedicated to rationing their body's own chakra in relation to Natural Chakra (Patient Chakra in the example Enhancements above).

That being said, the Sage Mode Limitations are as follows:

Chakra Usage

Chakra Usage in Sage Mode is very important, as it is not infinite. As your access to your chakra becomes Senjutsu Chakra, this very Senjutsu Chakra also empowers your Sage Mode and its abilities, this translates to using Chakra reduces the time you possess in your Sage Mode. There's also to note that all techniques used in Sage Mode actually uses [2/3rds] of the required chakra from your base reserves, as natural energy covers 33%, while physical and spiritual energies - the energies that comprises chakra - makes up the 66%.

[Non-Senjutsu Chakra Consumption]

▣ | [Very Low]: 1 pt.
▣ | [Low]: 2 pts.
▣ | [Medium]: 4 pts.
▣ | [High]: 20 pts.
▣ | [Very High]: 60 pts.

[Senjutsu Chakra Consumption]

▣ | [Very Low]: 1 pts.
▣ | [Low]: 3 pts.
▣ | [Medium]: 8 pts.
▣ | [High]: 30 pts.
▣ | [Very High]: 80 pts.

Lowering to [0/Zero pts] equates to the end of one's [Sage Mode].

Techniques which require a chakra drain will consume a number of points equal to their chakra level per rotation. For example, a non-senjutsu continuous technique with a medium drain will consume 4 pts per rotation.

Example SAge mode special ability

Perfect Sage Mode:

1 round of still Meditation allows 40 pts. It costs 4 pts to maintain Sage Mode and 4 pts to use active abilities.

+Enhanced Pain Resistance SAs [Active] - Capable of reducing pain by one grade.
+Skill SAs [Active] - Stronger Drunken Fist style.
+Chakra Sensory - Active: 300m / Passive: 60m, with a margin of error of 6 m. Increases cost to maintain by +1 pts.
+Steady Mind - Greater control of Natural Energy increases Threat Cap to 140 pts.
