A Battle Among Branches

Teamwork often made the dream work, but this situation wasn't harmonious team action. Instead a lucky chain of events worked together, it'd place the Jinchuuriki in a trap. A multi-layered trap too, but this wasn't a genin and they hadn't taken her advantage away. No, she'd have Matatabi and they'd be overpowered in that right alone. The beast wasn't effected by the genjutsu, so it'd see through it and warn it's host of the situation. The Jounin wasn't going to be bested by this trio. Especially as they all went on with their own tactics on denounced to each other.

Etsuko didn't want to per-say kill the genin on this stage, she'd be a lot more on edge with the Sunagakure shinobi and most interested in the Kumogakure shinobi. None though had earned her hate, it was a hard feat to manage though, she was incredibly indifferent. Killing was more casual to her than this whole 'testing' thing, but she felt rewarding the right moves was necessary. Hence not immediately moving from her spot, but she had to equally punish the mistakes. Every shinobi had their limits and the cloud shinobi was just about at his own. A poor time to attack, he didn't even know she was in a genjutsu.

The sand shinobi would be in a similar position, as he'd not only not know about the genjutsu, he'd also likely not realize the cloud shinobi's exact attack pattern. An attack was being slung from basically either side of the jounin, if they'd been better time she could be in trouble. They weren't though, an order was happening, it'd all start with the cloud shinobi. Her ears picking up the sound, as her eyes would close. Knowing she was in a genjutsu disorientating her sense of sight and perception. She'd have to rely more upon her hearing, her ninjutsu and her Bijuu.

Reiki breaking her wind perception first would trigger the inevitable need to escape. "Switch." She'd seem to whisper under her breath, but would speak quite loudly within the realms of her seal. An unable to be seen there'd be a sudden and unnatural switch in Etsuko. It wasn't the same as her earlier cloaking, but her facial expression and muscle tension all would subtly change. As though a cat snatching a mouse attempting to scurry past, the woman would grasp the flying kick coming towards her. He no longer had ground to change trajectory or chakra to change the situation. She'd take advantage of both, as she'd grip the boys leg tightly. Her nails immediately extending like claws digging into the flesh of her opponent.

Swinging the boy and her opposite arm towards the ground, as she'd bend over as though to dip from a second unseen attack. Her hand would crash onto the stage only seconds before Reiki. Allowing a shockwave of force to channel across the ground, it'd along with Reiki shatter through the stage. As an almost whole quarter of the wood that remained would rupture and crumble beneath the jounin. It'd spread out far enough where if Asahi didn't move he'd be lost with the stage too, her body quickly falling to dodge the shakuton attack. A tail appearing to block if he somehow followed through with redirecting the attack.

Violently the woman would twist mid-drop into a barrel roll, before quickly vaulting the cloud shinobi to the net below them. Her other arm slashing out to the trunk of the tree below the stage, as she'd yank herself to the essential main beam holding up the stage. She'd be below the remaining platform and rapidly charge around it's under belly to run back up to where the remaining genin stood. There'd soon be only one ring remaining granted a solid quarter of the stage was already gone, but with seconds remaining how would the remaining genin react.

Posting Order: Reiki, Asahi then Ouritsu.

SA:
Weighted Training #2 (She isn't in weights hence her initial speeds.)
Relying almost entirely upon her CQC skills Etsuko doesn't take her training lightly, she in order to improve her natural strength as well her human speed, has spent the past nine years weight training with a specially designed cloak. In lesser situations she'll even wear the cloak into combat, as it's material is quite durable and the weights hidden inside it act as armor. Half of the weights in her cloak have been broken due to her wearing it into battle, though she's made it habit to remove the cloak before winning a fight. It being an all white cloak she dislikes it getting blood, but once removed the girls speed seems to double and the fact she can wear the cloak all day unhindered, she also free's up enough carrying strength to carry her whole team once the cloaks removed.

Nibi Jinchuuriki #5 (Even more speed and disgusting reserves.)
Etsuko is well known in her village for being the Nibi Jinchuuriki, her eyes are that of the cats and her hair naturally stands in two cats ears at the top of her head. Even as a child without any ability to call upon she was noticed for her kitty similarities. Etsuko however has been mostly in denial of her potential power limits, even knowing Matabi as a giant chakra structure Etsuko has always seen the two-tails as more of an idol or friend, than a means of power. Her natural element feeding Nibi's flame but not being Etsuko's own personal strength, so instead of brandishing cloaks of fire she remains normally quite unchanged ability wise. Her weapon usage even means she understand little if any of her ability to extend her nails into claws, but the Nibi didn't leave her unblessed. Etsuko being the Nibi Jinchuuriki has granted her speed beyond most others. Her reaction timing most importantly being above par and even many elite jounin's capabilites. On top of her speed Etsuko has gained a larger chakra pool than most, but she can only tap it with Matabi's approval most of the time.

Lifeless. A state where one has no chakra, that is a perfect word to describe it. At least the pain was numbed due to how little his body can feel. And adrenaline. But that was merely on the outside, as his conscious was on the inside. In his vision, he was a perfectly rebuilt hollow image of himself in a pitch black void. Aimlessly walking...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

Thrown down into the net with no source of hope. What positive thoughts were supposed to get him out of this? Using them put them in this situation. A sentence that damned him for hell. And the worst part about it? It was nothing new, it was his entire struggle in line.

Being given no way out was supposed to help him improve. Put in the efforts and you gain your victory! That was how the tale is supposed to go!

But this wasn't a tale told through the lens of an optimist. Just because you try repeatedly does not mean you will succeed. Welcome to the real world, Omori Reiki. It's time to wake up...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall...

We fall!!!

WE FALL! WE FALL! FALL!!!!!!!!

TWIN TAILS SHOOTS, AND SHE SCOOOOORES! GOOOOOOOOAL! GOOOOOOOOOAL! GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!

And there the smol Reiki lies, d'awwww. Left with nothing but a body that suffered through critical shock and a mind left so broken and vulnerable. It's almost like he's been doing it wrong this whole time! : D

Now he's on the net without a conscious, just nothing but bitter regret. Not even spite anymore, just simply regret. Because he knows, deep inside, there is nothing he can blame but himself! Isn't that the worst!? Being so pathetic that you have to force ANY sanity to justify being positive!?

Of course not, dummy! Because there is something he can do to escalate the situation : ) Later~. I'll see you there, love~.

WE FALL

WE FALL

WE FALL

WE FALL

WE FALL

WE FALL

WE FALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.

Slow motion, this was what everything looked like for the boy. A trapped woman, a blast of Shakuton chakra heading towards her, an unseen charge from a boy on death's doorstep; it was all happening so quickly yet each moment felt like an eternity. The Suna genin watched as his attack slowly made its way towards the target wishing all the while he could make it move faster when he should have been wishing for communication between the three of them. It would have been tough to talk through a strategy with the target literally standing between them all, but even a little synchronization could have prevented what came next.

Reiki in all his lightning clad glory flew in for one last move, but almost as if the woman had eyes in the back of her head she managed to not only dodge the attack but grab his leg and in a swift and violent turn slam her off hand and the Kumo-nin through the stage. The immense power was more than enough to shatter the seal and take a big chunk of the platform with her. "Shit shit shit." Asahi cursed as he watched the very ground beneath him crack and fall away. He'd have to move quickly else share the same fate as the Kumo shinobi, a quick yet powerful jump forward and to the left put the boy in arms reach of the center. It was a tricky move but with so little space left Shunshin may have very well sped him off the platform and nobody wanted that.

A quick glance revealed that only he and the purple haired kid were left, he hadn't done much to the naked eye except attack Miho a while back. Was he scared? Well, who wasn't going up against a jinchuriki? Fair enough, but they were the last two and technically on the last platform which meant there wasn't much time left in the exam. If they could survive just a bit longer there'd be a good number of points for the both of them. But what if one of them were to fall off? Would the woman stop attacking, or was she mandated to keep attacking until the final bell? Asahi had no plans to wait around and ask the woman so he'd just have to prepare for what came next. Even though she had fallen beneath the stage it'd be foolish to think they'd seen the last of her. She was surely plotting somewhere underneath them and it'd be near impossible to figure out where she would attack from next. Welp, in cases like this it was best to put up strong defenses.

A couple seals would cause the formation of two mini-suns, each hovering on either side of the Kyokujitsu. It was his clan's signature technique, extremely deadly to just about anyone. Asahi was unsure how it'd react to a fire cloak, but with so little time left there was no reason to sit and wonder. His remaining amount of chakra wasn't great so holding this technique for very long wouldn't be possible, but if he could keep the woman on guard for just a little while that'd be more than enough.

RANK: B
CHAKRA USAGE: Medium
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: Shakuton
DESCRIPTION:
The user creates from their body several flaming orbs of heat that resemble small suns, ones that will hover around him/her within a close proximity. These orbs rotate around the user and can be freely controlled by will of their creator to attack enemies, which is done by quickly charging towards and entering the target as conducted heat. Once an orb has been conducted, the heat immediately courses all throughout the body of the afflicted; when used on a living being all of their bodily fluids will be evaporated, leaving them as a steaming mummified corpse. This heat is difficult to block since it is energy, leaving the only true defense being Water Release techniques. However, because the orbs cannot move farther than five meters from the user's body, staying at a long distance is also an efficient defense.

The myriad of attacks made it difficult to tell if his genjutsu had taken hold considering the woman couldn't move around via the seal the Suna kid had used. Regardless, the other two wasted no time in following up with another attack as even though they had stopped her for a few moments it'd be foolish to believe they had truly bested her. Reiki in all his brazenness used the last of his stamina to attack once more, and while it was tough to see it looked like the glasses wearing kid was gearing up for something else, too. Unfortunately fate would not allow these three to rest on their laurels any longer, and in a few swift movements Reiki had been caught and brought beneath the crumbling platform with the woman. Ouritsu would have been surprised if the Kumo shinobi would have been able to escape such a counter, so for all intents and purposes it was only himself and the Suna kid who had just jumped over not too far away.

One platform left, two genin, and a weird monster woman. Just great. The chances of the woman falling to the branches below was slim, and even if she did there was no guarantee that she was bound by the same movement restrictions that the genin were. So, what was the plan? This was still a battle royale after all and the less people left at the end would give more points to those remaining, but going up against each other and having to deal with this rogue attacker would be just a bit too much to handle. Very well, the young Iwa shinobi would try his best to focus on the woman going forward and maybe, just maybe, lend a hand to the Suna kid if there was an opportunity for them to dispatch the jinchuriki.

For now, however, the boy would keep his head on a swivel looking for the woman, she was bound to reappear sooner rather than later, and he'd be ready. Jinton would be slow, but genjutsu had seemingly worked before and if he could by them a few seconds here and there they could make it to the end.

A Battle Among Branches

There'd be no more tricks up the Kumogakure's shinobi, but such was to be expected of a genin so over exhausted. There'd be no relishing in the moment for the jounin, she wasn't truly the actor in this scene anyways. Matatabi was playing the role of antagonist now, but still in the image of her host. It'd be a fun little switch up for the beast, as she'd circle the underbelly of the stage. She hadn't been quite timing the falls of the stage, so she'd merely wait.

The second to last stage shortly falling after she'd destroyed a quarter of it with her actions. There was very little space left to maneuver on the remaining arena. Despite this there was 360 degree's to watch, as the jounin could reappear from any edge. She'd purposely choose the opposite side she fell. Hopefully creating a certain level of surprise, her body crouched as though expecting to run on all four. The nails on her hands greatly extended, as though they'd evolved into blades of their own. Her eyes seemed different their focus and shape being basically inhuman. Similar to her cloaked state, but she'd seem to have with drawn it for now.

Granted the cloak had come and gone rapidly most interactions. The two orbs of what she'd describe as light would take her attention first, but she'd not forget the violet haired shinobi. She didn't know the plan that either had, a word hadn't been really spoken between any of them. Attacking Asahi seemed like the right move, but she still had no idea what his intentions were with his jutsu. Tense and ready to pounce, she'd let the genin attempt the first moves. Afterwards she'd react to those moves, she would be guessing the two mini-suns were meant for her. Perhaps he'd surprise her and go for the other genin as well.

None seemed keen to attack each other, but they also weren't seeming to be plotting against her. Defensive measures were smart, but what could stop a jounin jinchuuriki?

Well this was fun, two genin in close quarters being accosted by a jinchuriki who had no qualms about destroying the stage or her targets. Just great. Asahi was ready to defend --perhaps by going on the offensive-- but that required having a target. He could maybe catch the Iwagakure genin off guard , but that'd leave him open should Etsuko decide to reappear. No, they would work together for now, a thin truce, maybe not even a word spoken between the two but at this point it was understood who the biggest threat was: the crazy cat lady.

A thump, not too loud but the presence of a jinchuriki not necessarily hiding themselves was hard to miss. Asahi would turn his head and gaze at the feral looking woman, nails akin to kunai and a face brimming with malicious intent. She wasn't quick to attack, just looking, obviously intrigued by the Shakuton orbs floating around the Suna shinobi. There wasn't much time left in this stage of the exam so standing idly starting at one another would be advantageous for Asahi but he knew that this wouldn't be the case for much longer. No, that woman was out for some action and she'd get it one way or the other. A quick attack would have been nice but the distance was greater than the boy could send out his orbs from his current position. He'd have to get closer to be any kind of threat, relatively speaking.

"I'm gonna try something stupid, try and be ready for a follow up." The boy would direct at Ouritsu. This went against every fiber in his being but no village would promote someone who wasn't willing to take a risk now and then. Asahi would perform two quick seals before the a kanji would appear on his right hand. For this to work he'd have to touch the woman on her forehead, an extremely risky move but there was a method to the madness. He'd dash in aiming to close the distance between he and Etsuko, arm extending around the two meter mark aimed at the woman's forehead. He wasn't expecting this attack to hit its mark, quite the opposite actually, completely dodging would be the desired result. Thankfully, if she were to go in for a counter Asahi could direct the orbs mentally to go in for an attack. Jinchuriki or not getting hit with a raging sun of Shakuton wouldn't be pleasant.

One could theorize that both attacks were a feint to give the Iwa shinobi a chance to come up with something, he seemed to be a more ranged fighter so giving him time to get something off seemed paramount if they were to succeed against the woman. It was a very big gamble leaving the relative safety of the middle of the arena, but better to try and control the pace on his terms than try and react to the speed of a Jin.

While looking for the mystery woman Ouritsu would notice that the Suna kid would activate some sort of jutsu and two... suns? Yeah I guess you could say suns appeared around him. It was tough to figure out what exactly they were for but getting hit by them probably wasn't fun. He'd catch the woman reappearing behind them and turn suit. She was looking more demonish than before even minus the fire cloak. Neither he nor the Suna kid were going to be fast enough to keep up with her in a straight up fight so to survive they'd have to be strategic.

Asahi would speak as he performed some seals, he was going to do something stupid. "Wait, you're not gonna..." He replied as the boy ran in for an attack. "Oh shit." This kid wasn't Reiki, he didn't have anywhere near the speed to keep up in close quarters combat, but maybe knowing that was why he was banking on Ouritsu to follow up with an attack of his own. But which would work? Jinton didn't discriminate so there'd be a good chance he'd hit both of them assuming that Etsuko didn't dodge which left only genjutsu.

The boy didn't have any mind melting techs in his arsenal, but if he could distract the woman just long enough they could perhaps put some pressure on her. Ouritsu would wait until the Suna genin got close before making his move, didn't want to give away his plans too early. The young Nohime would perform a couple seals of his own before speaking "Keizokuteki Enmu no Jutsu!" and around the woman --should it hit-- the woman would begin to have her vision obscured by a thick fog similar to that of a more mistier climate. Obscuring the senses would probably work a bit better than trying to add more attackers to the fray, anything to give the Suna kid a chance to land an attack or two; or at the very least waste some more time.

NAME: Keizokuteki Enmu no Jutsu [Continuous Fog Technique]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Low
CLASSIFICATION: Genjutsu
ELEMENT: N/a
DESCRIPTION:
Developed as a genjutsu version of the hidden mist technique it allows for the same effects as the ninjutsu version with much less chakra utilized. The target seeing a thick fog or mist rising up to obscure their vision and even their hearing. Less experienced users of genjutsu usually leave it at this, but more experienced practitioners will add in the proper smells and even the damp feel of the fog to the target(s) senses. The technique is triggered by the user saying the techniques name; although they'll often render a handseal or two as well to make the target(s) believe it is actually a ninjutsu.

A Battle Among Branches

Waiting for the two to act wasn't painful, whether tension or impatience had gotten to them didn't matter. It'd seem that decision making was now much clearer for the two genin, they had a threat to deal with and it was Etsuko. Matatabi was amused at this choice of action, it certainly hadn't backfired upon them earlier. Granted the whole patient route likely felt like a backfire to them when she appeared, to bad they didn't know this was inevitable. Just as bravery would be their undoing.

Knowing now that Asahi had fuuinjutsu and Ouritsu had genjutsu, their well intention unplanned attack had little likelihood of success. She'd however bait the attacks to get a reaction out of the duo, as Asahi came in close almost enough to touch them and enough to attempt his orbs strike she'd vanish. Something that'd be rather well known of the two, she'd been doing it against the fastest of the four earlier. Unlike Reiki though these two couldn't see her path and without their medic they couldn't heal through their errors.

Instead they'd hear the branches around them shift, as she'd make one powerful pounce followed by another and another. The first above them, then second to an entire other side of the arena. Finally though the sound would stop, as she'd hit a branch in the direction off from where she'd emerged. If Asahi hadn't tried to follow her movements he'd simply hear her around him, then see her appear a good distance off in a branch farther than even the initial rings that'd fallen. The faintest of cloaks shadowing her body, as a glowing dark orb hovered inches from her mouth.

"You can't use that move here Matatabi!" Etsuko would yell in the realm of her mind, as to be only heard by the Bijuu. As she'd charge up one of her kinds strongest attacks. Seemingly ignoring the kunoichi's words, the attack would form and launch forward. It'd seemingly be aimed between the two genin, if it'd been directed at either or aimed at the stage, then there'd be certainly nothing left standing on this arena. It might of been enough to scare one of them into jumping, but it was a quick attack and enough so to pull the air as it'd breeze past Asahi. It'd seemingly arch as though the shot angled, as though it were a Frisbee merely dipping before the wind caught it to rise again.

Traveling right past Ouritsu and the arena, it'd collide into branches opposite side of the Jinchuuriki's position. The explosion was nothing less than massive and violent. If that side of the stage hadn't mostly been destroyed, then it would of been from this blast. Though it's destructive reach wasn't much past that, it'd have a strong enough shock wave to hit both genin. As well as thousands of small pieces of wood violently raining into the stage. Depending on the stone shinobi's level of genjutsu control, the mist would realistically be dispersed a moment before returning.

Asahi would be in the worst of positions, as attempting to attack Etsuko would of put him close to the edge and the blast thus working as a hard shove for the end of the arena. Ouritsu would be much closer to the blast and face the shrapnel and concussive first worst, but he'd have the most room to attempt and stop himself from being catapulted off the stage.

Self-sacrifice wasn't something the boy was known for, quite the opposite actually, but a stroke of bravery had run through him the last few moments and gotten him into the current situation. His initial attack hadn't been close and instead of a quick counter the woman had all but disappeared from sight, her only tell being the sound coming from the branches she was heavily pressing on to move about the arena. For the genin being in such a place would have automatically disqualified them, but this woman was no genin --far from it-- and she was not held to the same standards. Keeping track of her movements was nigh impossible and even when she, or rather the monster who was currently in charge, was channeling a tremendous amount of chakra she was still hard to spot; but that much power could be noticed by a toddler.

Asahi would turn his head in the general direction of the massive surge of chakra mere moments before the attack was loosed and whizzed a meter or so past his head ruffling his clothes as it flew by. Had she missed? Did whatever the Iwa shinobi have in store alter her senses enough to change the trajectory? No. Not even close. An eerie moment of silence preceded an absolute cracker of a shockwave that hit the Suna genin before he even knew what had happened. There was no time to think, no time to counter, there was just too much power. A momentary burst at top speed coupled with the shockwave would have easily sent him over the edge, and trying to cement himself to the stage may have very well ripped his legs from his ankles.

Alas neither idea would come to fruition as the boy found himself flying across what was left of the platform and careening into the branches below. They'd save him from dying but it was by no means a pleasant landing. Still far too dazed to be upset at losing, when the boy finally came to he could at least take solace in the fact that they had "pushed" a Jinchuriki enough to use arguably its strongest attack on a couple genin. He hoped that his showing today would be enough to get him promoted but that was up to the powers at be now.

Perhaps they should have taken a moment or two to actually talk about their plan, it was pretty foolish in hindsight, and Ouritsu's genjutsu was only going to do so much to hinder the woman who seemed to be in a more feral state as of late. He hoped for the best but expected the worst, and as Murphy would have it the Jin dodged with ease and took to the branches above to escape. Like her bout with Reiki earlier the speeds at which she was moving were far too fast for the Iwa shinobi to keep up with, but the branches creaking with weight gave her away, albeit they were still a couple steps behind but it was something!

He couldn't see what the woman was doing but it was clear that she'd be thinking up her next plan of action. The rules stated that going off platform wasn't allowed so there wasn't any way in hell he'd be bringing the fight to her and given how eager she was for a scrap the momentary reprieve would surely be that: momentary. The swirl of massive amounts of chakra collecting in one place was enough to alert even a non combatant but just as light colored hues flicked towards the source a dark colored orb would whizz right past him. "Wh--" A strong shockwave would cut the boys sentence short as he could feel himself being forcibly pushed towards the edge at an alarming rate. Arms instinctively raised to block the harsh winds while chakra would find its way to his feet to try and keep him glued to the stage, and perhaps in a perfect world it would have maybe worked, but the unexpected entry of sharp splinters in the form of the shredded branches did just enough to cause a lapse in concentration, and in a situation like this that was more than enough to send the boy hurtling towards the edge.

Perhaps in an earlier round with more stage left he could have found a way to stay on the platform, but with more open air than platforming there wasn't much the boy could do. In a heap the young Nohime would find himself falling to the branches below, his exams effectively over.

A Battle Among Branches

A buzzer would ring to call the event done short. It was quite a jeering loud buzz, that'd likely cause a startle out of those viewing safely inside. They'd certainly scene quite the spectacle, as well as gotten a much better idea of the competing shinobi. A good few prominent techniques used, but alas the genin hadn't the stamina to make it to the end. Whether it was drained from the maze, used in the climb or exhausted through the fight, a final ring remained of wood. It was the last standing and all four genin now shared a cozy spot hammock'd below.

Etsuko would hop to the center, as the defeated Iwagakure shinobi would cause the genjutsu's release. She'd smile, as a switch would happen again. This time she was of her own mind, a slight sigh releasing as she'd be happy the attack wasn't aimed for anyone. There'd likely be some uproar over the camera's and wiring damaged, but most were likely entertained. Whether or not the genin had proven themselves this round was hard to tell. There certainly wasn't a victor among them, as the free-for-all turned into a loss for all. Defeat though could of shroud an internal victory, as something like arrogance or blind instinct might tempered from these events.

The genin would soon be aided by chunnin and special jounin of the village, they'd be cautious at first with retrieving the fallen. A sense of worry and distrust, but one they knew they needed to suppress and hide.
