BASIC INFORMATION

CLAN NAME: Hebimori
CLAN TYPE: Hijutsu
CLAN ORIGIN: Nohara no Kuni
RESIDENCE: Kusagakure

CLAN IDEOLOGY

The Hebimori are a proud clan. They do not necessarily think themselves better than anyone but are very sure of their abilities and independence. They also believe in repaying debts and keeping their oaths as when the Hebimori swore their allegiance to Kusagakure. The clan always comes first but the hidden village will forever be a close second. Solidarity is the key to success in their minds, and the best way to honor that is by dutifully doing the jobs given to them depending on the Faction of the Fangs they belong too. One is not to stray from the duties they are entrusted with lest they be shunned or even banished from the clan. To not submit to your role or even resist the traditions to them shows cowardice and that kind of stain must be removed.

The clan follow six pillars of wisdom that hold the clan steady and ever moving forward. They are: Leadership, Investment, Diligence, Secrecy, Knowledge, and Loyalty.

CLAN HIERARCHY

The clan is broken up into 5 different factions known as the Five Fangs with the clan leader presiding over them all. Each faction has a head and heir to that faction. The head of a faction is chosen strictly by merit and ability, and the heir chosen by the head of that faction with those same principles. A Hebimori is put in to a faction depending on the snake they are bonded with when they are very young children. The snakes of the Hebimori clan are special in that they have the potential to have any of the five natural chakra natures. The baby snakes choose their partner by sensing Hebimori children with the same natural chakra nature as them. For example, a snake with Doton affinity will locate a child who also has a Doton affinity and so forth. Hebimori are grouped into the factions regardless of lineage. Meaning two parents who have Raiton and Katon natures could give birth to a child with a Suiton nature and all three would belong to the faction that represents their chakra nature. The five factions are the Fire Fangs (Katon), the Earth Fangs (Doton), the Water Fangs (Suiton), the Wind Fangs (Futon), and the Lightning Fangs (Raiton). The clan leader is known as the White Serpent.

The White Serpent is the head of the whole clan and represents the pillar of Leadership. They are chosen when a Hebimori youngling is bonded with the the incredibly rare and venomous Ivory Snake. It is the only position where skill and merit are not considered because the clan considers the Ivory Snake to be almost like a deity and they would never go against its decision. The White Serpent oversees the Five Fangs and handles any civil disputes that happen within the clan. They are trained to be a jack of all trades concerning the clan so that they may properly oversee each faction's responsibilities. They also oversee the council meetings which involve them and the Five Fang Leaders. The White Serpent's decisions regarding the clan are absolute. The only time it can be vetoed is if the Five Fang Leaders unanimously decide to turn the decision down and enact a clan vote where the adults of the clan (excluding the leader and faction heads) vote either for or against the White Serpents decision. If the voting is tied then the leader's decision goes through unimpeded.

The Fire Fangs oversee the education of the clan's hijutsu techniques along with helping to nurture the bonds between clansmen and their snakes. They represent the pillar of Investment. The education process begins at the same time as when a child is in the academy. On top of passing the genin exams at the academy, clansmen must also pass a clan exam that goes over both hijutsu techniques, clan history, and special section that includes questions pertaining to the Fang Faction they were placed into. A child is considered an adult once they have passed both exams, though it is understood that they are viewed as Genin to the village even if they haven't passed the Hebimori specific exam. The Fire Fang Leader presides over all education facets including pairing Fire Fang Members with Hebimori academy students and creating the learning regiment. The Fire Fang Leader and their heir are solely responsible for the teaching and training of the White Serpent and their heir. If there is an issue of being short staffed, The Fire Fang Leader and heir can step in to fill the void.

The Earth Fangs oversee the protection and maintenance of the location of where the clan's snakes live within Nohara no Kuni as well as monitor the snakes' health. They represent the pillar of Diligence. This includes cleaning the nests and feeding the snakes. The Earth Fangs are trained extensively in the veterinary skills concerning snakes. If a clansmen's snake is not doing well, they go to an Earth Fang. The snakes can only prosper and procreate in their natural habitat which is why Earth Fangs are considered to maintain the very pillar of the clan's existence. The Leader of the Earth Fangs oversees the care of the habitat and snakes overall and also is the one who maintains the scheduling of when Earth Fangs must go and tend to the nests. They are also considered to be the best snake veterinarian in the whole clan.

The Water Fangs oversee all rituals pertaining to the clan, the protection of the clan's secrets, and represent the pillar of Secrecy. This includes the bonding ceremony, the first shed, the second shed, the third shed, The Serpent Ascension Ceremony, the Fang Ascension Ceremony, and the Fang Acknowledgement Ceremony. The bonding ceremony is when young Hebimori children, journey to the nesting grounds to bond with a newly hatched snake. This ceremony is also where the children will be placed into their appropriate Fang Faction. The First Shed is when Hebimori younglings begin their journey as academy students and also when they start to learn their duties in their respective faction. The second shed is when academy students successfully pass both their genin and Hebimori exams and are considered adults within the clan. The Third Shed is what one hopes to be able to achieve in their lifetime. This is when a Hebimori clansmen, after serving their clan and village for years, is allowed to retire from their shinobi ways and be considered an elder among the clan. The Serpent Ascension Ceremony is when the clan heir ascends to the title of the White Serpent. The Fang Ascension Ceremony is where the Fang leader heirs ascend to their roles as Faction Leaders. The Fang Acknowledgement Ceremony is when the Faction Leaders choose their heir. The Water Fang Leader and heir oversee all proceeding in these various ceremonies. They are sure to rehearse with clansmen beforehand to make certain that the ceremonies will go smoothly. Water Fangs also personally oversee the expulsion of and/or assassination of members who would dare leak any clan secrets.

The Wind Fangs are meant to be involved in political matters inside and outside of the clan and represent the pillar of Knowledge.  They are what you would consider to be the mediators  between fellow clansmen and have even been known to also help mediate disagreements between fellow Kusa villagers. Their purpose is to understand and help to change the flow of the political climate to better benefit the clan. They are also meant to gather intel around the village and even around the world if they are able and relay this information back to the White Serpent. The leader of the Wind Fangs is most notably given the task of being the parliamentarian to the meetings of the White Serpent and Five Fang leaders and makes sure that all discussion is civil and relevant to the agenda.

Last but not least the Lightning Fangs most important goal is to protect the White Serpent and their heir as well as follow the White Serpent's orders that would not necessarily fall into the other Fangs' categories of expertise. An example would be if the White Serpent felt that someone needed to be assassinated, he would send Lightning Fangs to do the dirty work. This is an extreme case however and is not very typical of day to day orders given by the White Serpent. They also oversee the clan's finances as a Treasurer in an organization would. They represent the pillar of Loyalty.

CLAN HISTORY

The Hebimori are descendants of hunters and gatherers long before the formation of the nations. They typically stayed within and around the vicinity of what is now Nohara no Kuni. They were not particularly the best at what they did, but they survived and lived modestly. They always did their best to avoid forms of civilization or tribes of other people preferring to keep to themselves. One day, a young girl of the clan wandered off into a grove and noticed a small, snow white snake attempting to fight off a weasel but starting to lose. Before the weasel could end the small serpent's life, the girl jumped to the rescue and fought off the little beast. She took the snake back to the camp to tend to it. The clan thought it strange at first, but felt there was no harm in letting the girl take care of an animal. The clan members began to playfully call this girl Hebihime.

As the clan wandered the expanse of Nohara no Kuni, Hebihime found her scaly friend to be rather restless the more they traveled. The small animal always seemed to be pointing its head in one direction like a compass. No matter where they all went, the white snake would always be staring off into the distance in one particular direction. After much protesting, the group of wonderers finally bent to Hebihime's will and decided to follow where the white snake was pointing. Several days past and the clan made it to the south east end of what would have been Nohara no Kuni. The clan came across a hidden grove filled with snakes of all sizes and colors. It was like a miniature biome tucked away in the corner of the country. Most of them were hesitant to follow, but not Hebihime. She followed her serpentine friend into the heart of the snake's habitat. The clansmen waited with bated breath. She finally returned with not just her snake companion but a sleuth of snakes following alongside and behind her. "Fear not. They are our friends now."

The clan stayed in relative peace for years. So long in fact that Hebihime had become somewhat of a Folklore Deity more-so than remembered as a real person after her passing several centuries ago. The clansmen were getting used to the snakes and vice versa through this time. Slowly the tradition developed that each member of the clan would have a snake companion to call their own. The symbiosis between man and snake was beautiful. The grove where the snakes lived was thriving as the humans helped to tend to the habitat and the snakes aided in hunting and gathering with the humans. The hierarchy was still very basic in regards to leadership. The eldest owner of an illustrious Ivory Snake is considered the leader with younger members with the same snake are considered heirs.

This peace was not to last forever though. Soon the First Shinobi World War had commenced. The clan was aware that there were neighboring nations, but that was it. Their knowledge of the outside world was limited, and they made it a point to avoid Kusagakure and the Grass Daimyo. At the time they were never bothered. An agreement was forged where the nation of Nohara would leave the Hebimori in peace so long as the clan helped to alert Kusagakure if there was any sightings of Iwagakure's forces. Tragically, a battle broke out near the grove that the Hebimori called home and the ecosystem was almost annihilated. With the clan not being known for its fighting prowess at the time, many clansmen were lost in the crossfire along with many snakes whom the Hebimori also considered family.

The survivors fled along with their snake brethren to Kusagakure. There a sacred vow was made. Kusagakure would help to protect and restore the Hebimori grove and the Hebimori in exchange would offer their people as warriors who would train in the art of shinobi to become battle ready soldiers. It was at this time that the Hebimori trained alongside their snake companions and began to form the Hijutsu that is known today.

The Hebimori proved to be a valuable asset to fight off and thwart the enemy that was Iwagakure and its allies as they clan had formed a powerful hatred towards the rock shinobi. After the war had ended, most of the clansmen returned to their homeland to ardently pursue restoring the snake grove and tending to their serpent friends to ensure their longevity. A small portion of the clan stayed within Kusagakure to maintain relations with the village as well as honoring their vow to the village. The grove was recovering well, but peace did not last as nations from all over were flung into yet another war. Some protests were made from the Hebimori concerning Kusa's dramatic switch to aide Iwa and not Konoha, but the Kusa Lord at this time, Iseri Saki, threatened to lift protections from their grove if they were not to participate, as they would have been breaking their vows. The clan reluctantly supported the war efforts despite being debriefed about the goal of obtaining the Rokubi.

CLAN ABILITIES

The Hebimori's famous hijutsu is akin to that of the Inuzuka of Konoha. Though, except for dogs, the animal the clan has bonded with are snakes. There are many different ways that the Hebimori have found to use their scaly friends as a means to fight. Most notably the transformation techniques that allow the user to "fuse" so to speak with their snake and take on different forms. Examples include a hybrid form of snake and human or as simple as human body with a snake head. The transformation considered to be the strongest in terms of raw strength would be the giant two-headed snake form They have also been known to transform their snake companions to be clones of themselves to perform synchronized attacks. The sensory ninja from the Hebimori have been able to create jutsu that emulate the heat seeking sense that snakes have using their tongues by focusing chakra into their own tongues.
