Yamato felt a surge of adrenaline rush through his body as the older male slowly bought more and more of his lie. Stealth operations and infiltration certainly weren't his strong suite, but so far everything seemed fine. He was careful to maintain a still face as his potential business partner observed him for a few more minutes before leaving the table, warning him to remain until he returned. When Yamato was sure the man was out of earshot, he let out the breathe he didn't realize he had been holding, but just in case he made sure not to stir too much. He was in the home stretch of this ruse now, and blowing his cover by being fidgety would set him back quite a bit. Eventually, the older man did return, motioning for the white haired chuunin to follow him along, but his next words caused him to swallow hard.

A sample?

His outward demeanor didn't change, but now the chuunin was screaming internally, panic rising up in his throat as he struggled to think of what he'd do once he reached this person who demanded a sample. The moment to act came all too soon, the white-haired shinobi finding himself before an intimidating figure without a single plan in mind as to how he'd stay in cover, provide a convincing sample, and then obtain the location of the rest of the information brokers. The single moment of silence seemed to span for all eternity before Yamato spoke up, blurting out the first lie that popped into his mind.

"Pff, of course it's legit. But you're nuts if you think I'll just give you a free sample. This... wheat is of the highest quality, and how am I supposed to know you're willing to pay the right price?"

Hisakawa Yamato

The former Kusagakure shinobi would raise a skeptical brow at the newcomer’s unwillingness to share. His answer however did draw a chuckle from him as he shook his head lightly and stepped around the table to face this ambitious little pipsqueak. He would dig into his pocket and withdrew a small bag of money, throwing in a lazy arc to land at the yamato’s feet. On his face? A confident smirk.

"Don’t waste my time. That there should be enough to pay for a sample of this… wheat of yours.”

And if the newcomer had simply had a big mouth and some death wish? Well… The former kusagakure’s blade was honed and he didn’t like wasting his time or his boss’ time. But it all came down to the seller’s next move.

The former kusagakure definitely carried himself with pride and confidence, but he was barely more than a foot soldier, bringing in small fry like ambitious merchants and newbie mercenaries who might be of use was his area, but as it was now, he knew the kusagakure scrolls his boss was sitting on were something he’d like to get in on. Bringing another scroll - even a small one- would be worth something.

Even a promotion perhaps…

This time Yamato couldn't stop himself from gulping, nearly flinching as the bag of coins landed just by his feet. There definitely wasn't a diplomatic way out of this now. As soon as the one-eyed man saw an empty scroll, Yamato was sure that he'd find one of those many weapons at his throat, or even in it. He had been hoping that he could be taken directly to the former shinobi's superiors but... no, it was time to cut his losses.

"Very well..."

The white-haired shinobi put on his best conciliatory face as he slowly reached for his waste, on a direct path to one of the blank scrolls. Except, his hand never reached the destination. With a surge of chakra, the chuunin instead summoned a smoke bomb directly from his Hokan no Hon into his hand, swiftly flicking it towards the ground and instantly filling the room with smoke. Even as his hand finished the motion, Yamato was moving to the side, suppressing a fit of coughing as he followed the route that he had planned out in his head, hopefully. When he assumed the time was right, the Kusa shinobi leapt and threw himself as hard as possible forward, curling himself into a tight ball as he crashed through the window and out into the open air, vision finally free of smoke and ground rushing up to meet him.

Yamato rolled at just the right moment to break his fall, immediately standing up and sprinting for the nearest source of cover. Once he was safely around a corner, the chuunin checked to make sure he hadn't lost any gear in the commotion, as well as his own body for injuries. When it seemed like he was in one piece, and as long as nobody was pursuing him, Yamato slumped against the wall, grumbling as he realized he had lost his best lead to the information brokers. Where to look now...
