Prominent Locations

& Information

[break]
Climate:[break]
Umi no Kuni is a temperate land and a small land at that. It is categorised by consistently warm weather throughout most of the year with quite the difference between a wet season and dry season ranging from between 65f and 75f over the course of the year.[break][break]

[break]
Topography:[break]
Umi no Kuni’s topography is focused on a central location of a volcano, with all land steadily inclining toward that facet, the overall geography centred in a half oval, half v-shape. It includes misty plateaus, with craggy ocean cliffs that break down toward either edge and side, sharp cliffs that offer natural defences to preying ships: the main way in is through the active volcano out the backside as it had been actively managed and created to serve as protection[1], through the sides in which cannot maintain a prolonged assault nor provide opportunity for ships to stay docked[2], and by the front door: the most heavily guarded way with several cities along its coastline. Driving further inland does offer plains, sporadic increases in the height can offer almost savannah like plain. Though, for its position across the ocean has provided it with a closer wealth of some wealth of precious jewels and metals, though this has made them a point of conjecture in regards to hostile takeover from other nations.[break][break]

Endemism:[break]
The makeup of animals, and their complex native ecological biography is primarily focused on fish: a wide range of both colourful and dangerous fish both of prey and predator live here, focused on cold blooded animals: with tropic plants to back up reptiles, lizards, frogs toads and salamanders – but also offers much wider varieties of spiders and centipedes and other creepy crawlies.[break][break]

HISTORY:[break]

Originally from Reef country, Ume no Kuni’s land is newly established and not quite "renowned” now. Formerly a part of a collective of islands and formerly known as "Haha Island”, it is a north of Kika island, north east of the Ranmataru Empire, and much further away from any other of the Elemental Nations to be considered a just enemy in most cases. [break] [break]
They just like all of the other nations, equally diverse and rich in its history with its own fighting and wars during the warring states period: only where places like Tsuchi no Kuni and Hi no Kuni managed to fortify their location and resources into one main village, the others just fought among themselves. With less of a need – things settling among the individual daimyo, the others were very much concerned with the big players: those other islands and places did not even rate on their radar, and while the others were granted the technical title of ‘Daimyo’ they were not seen as one. [break] [break]
Ume no Kuni’s story starts properly in 878. Starting through one family throughout: the Shirase family. Decades of fighting prior had had these folk stand out amongst the rest. Between the in-fighting in the many different locations, the sea warfare in reef country and other surrounding islands. What the Shirase family had done sooner than everybody else was set up shop in Haha island like many others. What they did differently was slowly corner in on different territories, annexing them until they held a fair bit of land to their name. And what they did then: was make deals with people on land that was never theirs to begin with. [break] [break]
Somehow, it was bought: and with wealth to their name they did it all again, moving across the isles until they were rich enough to hold domain over one of the smaller ones as one of the "minor” daimyo in this world. Enough to hold other clans at bay, powerful enough to fight back when the going got tough. They changed the game. [break] [break]
They got ahead, and then they called for amicable meetings to "justify peace” from the bloodshed they themselves caused, started or finished. Called for a means to an end – were they not savages? This, of course, failed. [break] [break]
In 884, the wars continued. Just like all other places. But it was becoming clearer that people wanted a home and a real one: not one that upped and moved. The Shirase continued to fight in their own ways until 888. The creation of Konohagakure no Sato. [break] [break]
This is where the story ends for the most part. Where the regular history diverges from the rest of time is that where military villages began to crop up as a popular vote: the other islands did not. Owned by too many people, too many families butting heads. It would never work too many clans, too many people. Unfortunately, it would not even come to pass for some decades later. [break] [break]
Every attempt was met with harsh criticism. A council would convene – who would be the head of this village? They cried. And nobody would ever come to an agreement. So that’s all they settled for: a council. The Oceanic Council was formulated in 914. At this time, it was Shirase Kikaku which would become known to history as it was written. Kikaku was a man every bit as greedy, and infamous for one single reason. The breakup of the council. At one point in time, Reef country, Sea country, Jiro island: all part of an amicable group that let one another live in peace for the most part. [break] [break]
But it was Kikaku who overreached and tried to assassinate the Daimyo of one of what was known was Reef Country’s main daimyo of their largest island, hoping to annexe it for his family. This, of course, foiled it: but with the Shirase having managed to rally so many friends, all it did was divide everybody until there was no council. The man, despite having all of the friends would still be no "greater” than when he had started out and in essence had failed, and only prospered bloodshed. This made the Shirase family unpopular with time as fingers were pointed. [break] [break]
In 924, the religion came. Never had it been a part of the collective islands’ minds to have such a thing, but it was every bit as infective. Offering a boon that could not be denied by some, it started to sway many people. And yet again, the Shirase went to war with Religion. A terrible idea. It was one man, a Manamune: who took over, killed Kikaku and took their name and as it dictated in his morals, assumed the position of the head. [break] [break]
And that was how the Shirase Clan turned into the Mōku clan. Just like that, overnight: in 927 Kikaku had been put to death by seppuku being defeated in a glorious battle with more people to note. The former distaste of the clan put to rest as some had seen it as being righteous vengeance. [break]

BLA BLA BLA MORE HISTORY

Hidden Village: Hooragakure

[break] [break]

One of the few actually hidden villages of the world: Hooragakure (The Village Hidden in the Caves). The village is through one of the many rivers running through the natural land, hidden through a hollowed cave behind a waterfall that stays alongside the volcano and making the water, as one could expect, makes it, and the water very hot: geothermic powered, moister than anything, and as an enclosed space makes it quite the… warm area. It is one huge cavern, with some natural light breaking through a man-made crack only providing natural light for only a few hours of the day. The rest of the time? Yellow light lit by oiled torches: and that even has its own role. Tochibera (Torch Bearer).[break][break]

Capital City: Take

[break]
A big city situated inside a bamboo forest, the only main indicator that there’s a village here are the people coming and going from the trees and under , and the large Shinto-ist like temple rising above the forest: that’s the Daimyo’s building. It is a sprawling village with every centimetre decked with plant life. Generally, a flat land with little hills, and a stream to the side of the village that runs down from the mountain/volcano side. The bamboo and flora provide the coolest part of the island, the brunt of the heat being taken by them – making it quite a desired place to live.

Nishimuki

[break]
One of the smaller villages much deeper inland is Nishimuki: primarily comprised of overtaken nature and stone structures, it is quite a religious village. What you will find in this land is one made of customs, and beliefs: though the people can be a little bit intolerant. Home to one of the ancestral clans of Ume no Kuni, and their cultural heritage that makes them a country renowned spectator sport: their belly dancing.

Gyogyō no ji

[break]
The seaside shanties: the cool sea-salted air. The fisheries: -- is a town focused on the development, breeding and overall food production in Ume no Kuni. With a lower population – it is a peaceful town as far as thing goes. Because of the warm temperate air, majority of the houses are on the water itself, and in a way: it is luxury to some. Because nobody really lives in poverty here, while the overall living standards aren’t bad: it’s simply up, and to work for some.

Abino Sabaku

[break]
Akino Sabaku Is quite a small village more renowned for its fish stew than anything else. Probably closest to be considered the "old people” crowd where people come to die. A three-tiered village that backs on to a huge cliff, with a side ways path that leads down towards some of the more affluent areas of the village. Not many Shinobi are stationed at this specific location, but the two craggy triangle like formation provides a huge boon to sentry-ship across the village and area, allowing Shinobi to see a few hundred miles out toward the sea in the horizon. Legend says, that there are mythical creatures found when trying to ascend these steep cliffs, but are only revealed to pure hearted travellers.
