Clothed in long formal traditional gowns of airy translucent waruichi silk, or more contemporary form fitting dresses and skirts, Iroha’s style is every bit as poised and refined as she. Her favoured outfit consists of a scandalously short, sleeveless high-collared white babydoll dress, graced with tightly gathered ruffles running along the hem. A violet over-skirt drapes around her torso, defining an empire-waisted silhouette, covered by flared embroidered aubergine panels, fastened over her hips with gold-threaded fog-buttons. Hugging her upper-arm, long flow gathered ruffle sleeves catch the wind as she walks, gracefully dancing in her wake. Groomed in the four great noble arts from a young age, Iroha’s tactics on the go board, her talent at plucking the Guqin zither, her elegantly formed calligraphy, and graceful ink-brush painting skills rival her mastery of the shinobi arts. While it’s said only a handful of shinobi born to the Yuki clan are blessed to inherit their bloodline, Iroha was born with ice in her veins. Unnaturally beautiful, effortlessly graceful, and above all else, incredibly gifted at molding Fūton and Suiton chakra into their signature Hyōton release, simply releasing her chakra causes the air around her to chill, the most basic of ninjutsu causing frost to form around her feet, and water to freeze in her wake. Her incredibly potent chakra made her a valuable tool on the battlefield, during the countless years of strife she was born into, the bloody civil war, and later, in defence of her village against the Sanbi. Knowing only way, not a day has gone by where Iroha’s frozen blades have remained in their scabbard. Through her many years of training, and life on the battlefield, while Iroha’s Hyōton ninjutsu possess incredible potency, her greatest asset is the speed with which she is able to mold chakra. When performing Hyōton ninjutsu, she is able to perform the jutsu using only one third of the normally required hand seals.

Certainly strong for her delicate frame, even among highly trained shinobi, one of Iroha’s greatest tools lie in her long, slender pin-up legs. Able to move with incredible speed and intention, Iroha is more than capable of outrunning even the most seasoned of shinobi, summoning intense bursts of speed on command. While she may lack the utter stamina of the many marathon-running-shinobi-messengers, she is more than capable of running circles around her enemies, darting in and out of striking distance with ease, her movements a blur to all but the most sensitive of eyes.

Situated in the North East of Mizu no Kuni’s main island, the Buryōgenzan mountain range is home to some hundred sky-piercing sandstone spires, surrounded by dense alpine forests, serpentine rapids, and numerous hidden cave-networks. Nestled amongst the clouds sits the fabled Seven Star Sword School, as ancient as their mountain home, and just a shrouded in myth. According to the local villages dotting the Southern foothills, an enchanting fog permeates the mountain range, causing travellers to become hopelessly lost, many falling to their doom from the narrow winding mountain paths. To some, the school exists only in legends, and the few that claim to wield the legendary style of swordsmanship are naught by snake-oil-peddlers and charlatans. Some see it as a holy sight, where only the most worthy of swordsmen reside, and take it upon themselves to brave the treacherous mountain trails, and ascend the Buryōgenzan spires in hopes of being judged worthy of their teachings. To the Shinobi of Kirigakure no Sato, the far-off mountain school is no myth, but one of the many shinobi training grounds, capable of forging some of the most acclaimed sword-saints the land has ever seen. Decimated by the blood civil war that plagued the land some 10 years ago, the temple is in the process of rebuilding, recruiting promising swordsmen into their ranks. While only three of the former seven-pillar sword masters remain, those who are able to brave the bewitching mists, reach the mountain summit, and survive their harsh training, can be counted as some of the fiercest blades in all the land. The Shichisei Tenshō Hikenryū sword style employs a wide range of techniques, demanding incredible speed, flexibility, agility, and precision from their students. Favouring thin, double edged straight swords, and sometimes broad curved single-edged sabres, the style eschews traditional kenjutsu principles favoured by the lowland samurai, instead blending a variety of taijutsu techniques to create an incredibly fluid, fast-moving, acrobatic style of fighting. Whiplike-strikes flowing effortlessly into one another, a practitioner’s blade glides through the air in a deadly dance of steel, flowing like the rivers below, soft and malleable, bending away from the enemy’s blade, only to come crashing down in a torrent of blows, striking where the enemy least expects. While some forms of swordsmanship try to overpower their foes with sheer strength, or deliver single, devastating strikes, the Shichisei sword adapts to it’s opponent, soft when they are hard, hard when they are soft, weak when they are strong, and strong when they are weak. It’s strength lies not in it’s sharpness, but in it’s concealment, and it’s practitioner’s ability to deliver the full force of their sword to the enemy’s weakest point. Particularly suited for Fūton and Raiton users, Suiton wielding shinobi have also been known to excel at this unique brand of swordsmanship. [break][break]

Focusing fūton chakra around their body, the user cloaks themselves in a thin layer of chakra-infused air, no thicker than 3cm. Entirely subsumed by the wind, unless willing, the user never makes contact with any surface, their feet suspended ever so slightly above the ground, rain trickling off their body harmlessly. Significant force will disperse the wind - attacks, long falls, flying debris, etc will all harm the user as normal. While cloaked, the user leaves no footprints, emits no noise while moving or breathing and gives off no scent. Advanced practitioners of the technique can enhance the technique with additional fūton chakra to bend light around them, erasing their shadow. While moving, the wind-cloak helps regulate the speed at which air is displaced while they move, allowing the user to make rapid movements without disturbing their environment (snuffing out a candle’s sputtering flame, or causing falling leaves to scatter as they run past). The more theatrical practitioners of this technique may opt to balance on the tips of their toes, gracefully perched above the dirt and grime of the battlefield.

Functionally, this technique can either serve to help conceal the user’s presence, forcing their opponents to track their movements only through visual means, or other forms of advanced sensory information, or as it is commonly used, as a means of elevating the standard bunshin-no-jutsu to a reliable means of deception during combat.

Focusing fūton chakra into the soles of the user’s feet, or shoes, a think plane of densely compressed air, roughly 1ft in diameter, is created, solid enough to support the user’s weight should they stand on it, albeit only for a few moments. The user is able to release the pressure stored in the plane, and when timed with the user’s movements, allows for incredible feats of aerial acrobatics - vaulting to the top of tall buildings in a single leap, stopping in mid-air, only to push-off and leap in another direction, or even as a means to avoid falling to their death. Once created, the plane will only last for a maximum of 1 second, after which, the air is harmlessly dispersed, rending it unusable. A relatively simple technique, it can be used in quick succession, much like water walking or tree climbing, albeit elemental, and more advanced.

A defensive technique, the user focuses fūton chakra into their blade, cloaking it with chakra-infused air. Seeking to intercept an incoming blow, or simply pressure an opponent’s guard, the user brings their blade into contact with the opponent’s, moving to parry their attack off to the side. Releasing the fūton chakra stored around the blade at the moment they make contact, with the slightest of movements, the user is able to deflect the incoming strike, redirecting a weapon of considerably more mass, or in the case of particularly light weapons, or inexperienced opponents, send their weapon careening off toward the sidelines.

Following up their attempted parry, the user will redirect their blade and deliver a quick slash, often with just a flick of the wrist, using the back edge of the blade, or a simple circular drawing cut from across their body. Her favoured outfit consists of a scandalously short, sleeveless high-collared white babydoll dress, graced with tightly gathered ruffles running along the hem. A violet over-skirt drapes around her torso, defining an empire-waisted silhouette, covered by flared embroidered aubergine panels, fastened over her hips with gold-threaded fog-buttons. A prodigy among prodigies in the Seven Star Flying Sword School, soft whip-like strikes, flowing parries, graceful aerial footwork, and lightning-fast strikes define the bloody waltz that is Iroha’s blade, dancing its way between foes, drawing crimson across the pale white of freshly fallen snow. Moving at speeds near incomprehensible by even the most skilled of shinobi, her blade moves like the wind, weaving behind guards, around obstacles, attacking where the enemy is weakest, strong where they are weak, it’s point finding its way through any form of armour. A woman of honour, Iroha is not one to turn down a challenge, let along one two shy away from any foe before her. While quite the shrewd tactician, she puts her honour as a warrior before all else. To fight and die on the battlefield is sacred, the exchange of blows, divine judgement, venerating the Just with the spoils of victory, and blessing the usurper within the solace of eternal peace. Decisive and quick to action, Yuki’s princess despises cowardice, petty crime, and lawlessness. Her blade has never shied from spilling the blood of the cruel or the wicked, often of her own accord. A woman of justice, she places the judgement of her own sense of honour and righteousness above the laws of any government or organization.

While deemed a prodigy with the blade from a young age, many of her sensei over the years have lamented at the deeply entrenched sense of pride fuelling Iroha’s blade. While it’s said only a handful of shinobi born to the Yuki clan are blessed to inherit their bloodline, Iroha was born with ice in her veins. Unnaturally beautiful, effortlessly graceful, and above all else, incredibly gifted at molding Fūton and Suiton chakra into their signature Hyōton release, simply releasing her chakra causes the air around her to chill, the most basic of ninjutsu causing frost to form around her feet, and water to freeze in her wake. Her incredibly potent chakra made her a valuable tool on the battlefield, during the countless years of strife she was born into, the bloody civil war, and later, in defence of her village against the Sanbi. Knowing only way, not a day has gone by where Iroha’s frozen blades have remained in their scabbard. Through her many years of training, and life on the battlefield, while Iroha’s Hyōton ninjutsu possess incredible potency, her greatest asset is the speed with which she is able to mold chakra. When performing Hyōton ninjutsu, she is able to perform the jutsu using only one third of the normally required hand seals.

Certainly strong for her delicate frame, even among highly trained shinobi, one of Iroha’s greatest tools lie in her long, slender pin-up legs. Able to move with incredible speed and intention, Iroha is more than capable of outrunning even the most seasoned of shinobi, summoning intense bursts of speed on command. While she may lack the utter stamina of the many marathon-running-shinobi-messengers, she is more than capable of running circles around her enemies, darting in and out of striking distance with ease, her movements a blur to all but the most sensitive of eyes.

For one born with a sword in hand, the ability to perform ninjutsu unhindered required many years of intensive training, and countless near-catastrophic failures on the battlefield. It took Iroha the majority of her life to master the ability to freely form one-handed-seals, with either hand, at combat-effective speeds, but the results have been worth the years of blood, sweat and tears. Presented to her on her 8th birthday, Iroha’s life blade, like all members of the Amagi clan, was an entirely unadorned, lightly curved, single edged katana with solid oval tsuba, clad in plain black lacquered saya. It was entirely unremarkable, apart from the near-impossible purity of it’s steel, as flexible and whiplike as bamboo, as hard as diamond. Gripped with anxiety, the young girl let the blade draw her blood, feeding on her chakra, forging the unbreakable bond between their souls, a single red string tied between her heart and her blade. Peeking out from behind tightly closed eyes, Iroha watched as her blade morphed before her very eyes, straightening, emitting an ethereal teal glow. While her father’s blade _____ had been transformed into a grand crescent shaped polearm, her blade took after her mother’s a nimble straight double edged Jian. The whispers of the onlooking clan elders faded away from her ears. All the young girl could hear was the faint wingbeats of birds of prey, and the distant howl of wind rushing through winding canyons far below her feet. She felt a shiver run down her spine, her hair caught in a violent updraft. Her senses slowly returning to her, a single word uttered in the earth-shattering boom of a thousand peels of distant thunder, a word that echo’s through the corridors of her mind even to this day. Nataku. [break][break]
Fitted with a 31 inch blade, 2 inches wide, and 1cm at it’s thickest part, Nataku takes on the form of an elegant Jian, it’s steel morphed into a blade of ornamental jade. Slowly, beneath it’s glossy soft, semi-translucent surface, patterns within the stone-like blade shift and swirl, ebb and flow, like the celestial movements of an emerald galaxy, or the shifting tides in a jade sea. Tapered to a razor’s edge, the blade cuts with the ferocity of the finest steel, bending and flexing like any properly forged steel sword, entirely metallic and indistinguishable from other similar weapons despite its exotic appearance. Balanced a few inches away from the guard, the blade winds through the air, like a serpent darting through the clouds, impossibly light in the hand. Hilt clad in burnished brassy geometric embellishments, grip wrapped in supple sharkskin, pommel carved from deep emerald jade, the blade’s opalescent sheen catches the light, its every edge glistening under the warmth of the long midday sun. When drawn, and held by it’s wielder, Nataku’s blade gives off a faint pearl aqua shine, a pale ray of moonlight peaking through the clouds. However, when reacting to the the wielder’s chakra, it’s glow intensifies, completely engulfed by soft teal light, a brilliant neon socket streaking through the air. With every swing of the blade, an intense trail of light lingers in it’s wake, and while not bright enough to blind onlookers, the luminescence of the afterimage draws an opponent’s eyes to the space behind the blade, causing them to focus on where the blade has already been, distracting them from it’s edge.[break][break]

Like all sacred blades belonging to a member of the scattered branches of the Araikettei clan, Nataku bears a fragment of his wielder’s soul, born from their chakra, their memories, their very essence. A sentient being in it’s own right, a spirit bound to the physical plane through the steel of it’s blade, he takes the form of a colossal green dragon, jagged stag-like horns sprouting from his furrowed brow-bone, a pale greenish-white mane crowning his serpentine head, his body impossibly long, shifting and coiling through an endless sea of clouds. His voice the booming echo of an infinitely reverberating peel of thunder, he speaks in riddle, waxing poetically through ancient allegory. Seemingly fickle and aloof, the great celestial beast will seldom respond to it’s wielder, even through the most dedicated mediation, communing with Nataku is more often than not, a fool’s errand. However, when he wants his will to be known, he will appear before his wielder while they dream, always lurking around the fringes of unreality, his colossal serpentine body winding between one fragmented vision into the next, his words equal parts comprehensible and archaic. In her dreams, Iroha is often summoned into Nataku’s spirit realm, a vast sea of clouds spreading out across an infinite sky, dotted with floating islands of warm sandstone and verdant foliage. Carved into the face of the rocks lie temples bearing script far predating the era of shinobi, rife with ceremonial chambers and ornate alters devoted to the draconian spirit. There, the pair will often match wits over the 19-by-19 grid of the go board, exchange wistfully melancholic verses on the guqin, or simply recite ancient lines of forgotten poetry, recorded in faded ink across thin bamboo slat-scrolls littering the temple floors.[break][break]
Nataku is as much a scholar as he is a warrior, every much concerned with the pursuit of enlightenment as he is with the harsh and merciless deliverance of justice on the battlefield. He holds little respect for his wielder’s ability to fight, or their power as a shinobi, regarding them as little more than an insect before his divine presence, but rather concerned with the sharpness of their wits, and the depth of their mind. To gain his trust is to show a shred of divine insight needed to impress him in the four scholarly arts. To hold is favour is to hold the Mandate of Heaven, an expression of the divine justice governing the will of the spirit of the blade. To hold the mandate is to command the tremendous power of the dragon, to rend the flesh of one’s enemies under torrent of unrelenting air-blades. To lose the mandate is to fall into ruin, deemed unworthy and unjust, meeting a tragic end on the battlefield, failed by their blade. Who determines what is just? By what means? Questions asked on many occasions by Iroha to the great spirit, always met with derision and rote allegory. To hold the mandate is to be just. To lose the mandate is to be unjust. To hold the mandate, one must act according to the will of the heavens, the will expressed by the emerald jade serpent, Nataku. To know the will of the serpent, is to open one’s mind, abandon their earthly senses, and feel the flow of the universe. Words spoken to Iroha on many an occasion, each time making just as little sense as the last. What she did known, is that heaven’s justice is measured on the field of battle, and the victor deemed righteous, the loser struck down without mercy. On the field of battle, the strong prevail, and justice favours the living. [break][break]

Red String of the Soul 魂の赤い糸[break]
Born from Iroha’s chakra, the emerald jade blade acts an an extension to her body, her palms feeling incomplete when no longer wrapped around the sharkskin hilt of the living blade. The blade is completely in tune with her chakra flow, allowing her to channel Fūton and Raiton chakra seamlessly through the blade to create all manner of elemental ninjutsu. While out of combat, and going about her daily actives, Nataka absorbs her chakra, pulling larger amounts while she sleeps, or is in a state of prolonged rest, building up a massive storage within the blade itself. Drawing from this wellspring of energy, the blade is capable of repairing itself, or direct that energy towards Iroha’s elemental jutsu. When focusing Fūton or Raiton chakra through the blade, the jutsu created strike with greater force, and the effects of the technique have greatly increased potency. Should the blade’s store of chakra run dry, it will be forced to drain energy directly from the wielder, putting a much greater strain on their body, bringing their battle to an abrupt end.[break][break]

Blade-Trail 劍光[break]
More than a simple visual effect of the blade’s reaction to the wielder’s chakra, when swung while fuelled by the wielder’s chakra through the use of ninjutsu or specific bukijutsu techniques, the blade will discharge chakra from its tip into the air, leaving an invisible trail of energy in the wake of each swing. While on the surface, this expenditure of energy is simply a waste, the airborne arcs of chakra will persist in place for up to one minute before dissipating, capable of being manipulated through Iroha’s unique style of kendō, often in the form of unseen wind-blade traps, or secondary strikes of razor-sharp wind, a clap of thunder following a jagged bolt of lightning. Drawing from the reserves the blade has built up over time, this discharge does little to impact the wielder’s overall stamina in and of itself, depending on the level of hijutsu, and the frequency it is used, if a battle isn’t brought to a decisive end, the wielder may soon find themselves struggling to continue.[break][break]

Flying Emerald Gale-Wind 飛翠疾風[break]
To wield Nataku is to wield the thunderous power of the heavens, to command the fury of the East wind, to tear foes asunder with the raging power of the storm. When drawn, the user is cloaked in a thin cloak of chakra-infused air, no thicker than 3cm. Entirely subsumed by the wind, unless willing, the user never makes contact with any surface, their feet suspended ever so slightly above the ground, rain trickling off their body harmlessly. Significant force will disperse the wind - attacks, long falls, flying debris, etc will all harm the user as normal. While cloaked, the user leaves no footprints, emits no noise while moving or breathing and gives off no scent. While moving, the wind-cloak helps regulate the speed at which air is displaced while they move, allowing the user to make rapid movements without disturbing their environment (snuffing out a candle’s sputtering flame, or causing falling leaves to scatter as they run past). Rather innocuous in it’s passive state, through her hijutsu, Iroha is capable of manipulating this cloak of wind to great effect.
