Asa Yuki Hakurei Yuki Hinata Reiji Nue

Yukigakure is an isolated village, sitting on one of the loneliest continents in the world. Most people wouldn't even bother to travel out this way for assassination attempts, as the trip and return is perilous enough to dissuade most invaders. That does not mean the nation was totally safe, however. Recent political events had thrown the lady into agitation, and for this reason, she decided to do specified training. Teach regular shinobi how to spot and uncover dangerous special operatives before they can make it too far.

The first class, today, was attended by four students who had agreed to practice their hand at this art. Asa, Yuki Hakurei, Yuki Hinata, and Nue Reiji were stood out in the quiet cold of the morning. They'd been given a brief verbal lesson on how to spot tells, twitchy behaviors, suspicious movements, and following your gut. That was all preempting the real practice, however. The trial really began when the lot were brought to a long and snowy street and set to work.

This small street of Yukigakure had been reserved, today, for this practice. The instructor laid out a false scenario for all of them. The imaginary situation was this:

There was a diplomat from Ranmantaru visiting today, wanting to discuss various trade matters. The higher ups were concerned about other nations attempting to sour their diplomatic relations by assassinating or kidnapping the man. Thus, the four "guards" had been assigned to keep a lookout.

The meeting took place at a small but fancy restaurant. The diplomat had requested it specifically. It wasn't well-suited to secure meetings, but it would be impolite to decline.

The front of the restaurant was still open to routine guests. The back of the restaurant had a door for chefs and other employees. Though the staff had assured you it was locked tight, it was still a possible point of entry.

Along the front street there were several other shops that provided easy cover for one milling about and observing.

Participants were informed that they were allowed and encouraged to work together, but that it was not a requirement.

With all this information lined up before them, how would they begin their investigation? Would they communicate together and coordinate, or attempt to work alone? What features would they look for in the crowd? What parts of the building would they find in most need of guarding?

[Asa]

Lady Shuka had made a joke to Asa earlier that day. "Catch that GOKA", she had said. Asa was confused, but did not press further. Was it not the point of the GOKA to be unseen, uncatchable? Asa herself was well trained in those arts, and she had many years to hone her skills as a stealth predator. She considered herself more akin to the fox than the bear in that regard. 

She had her arms loose as she waited. For this event, she had brought her weapons. After the bizarre spectacle that was the sled race, she was determined to not be unprepared. Her scythes and her bow were within easy reach, in case she needed them. If someone were to try and assassinate the diplomat from the stange land of steel, Asa would not hesitate to cut them down. 

For those around her, she knew of two of them personally: Yuki Hakurei and Yuki Hinata. They were both members of the tribe of the people of Yuki, just like Lady Shuka. They would notice that Asa looked different than she had in their previous encountered. 

In place of her right eye was a pale, featureless white eye. The Byakugan: the prize of the GOKA. Her left eye was her dominant eye, and she shot from her left hand. She needed that eye to maintain her abilities at range. However, she did not draw attention to it, nor did she say a word as the group waited for whatever was ahead.

It was all stuff he should have learned in the academy but either he wasn’t paying attention at the time or it happened so long ago that he forgot. Despite his reservations, it ended up feeling more like a family reunion than a class; almost everyone here was related to him in some way or another except for Reiji of course. [break][break] He noticed Asa’s eye but didn’t say anything about it. Lady Shuka had assured him the Hyuuga kid would be returned to his family but she’d failed to mention anything about taking his eyes. Hakurei knew it wasn’t technically his business but he took note of her omission nonetheless. [break][break] He did his best to remember everything the instructor had said about following his gut. Unfortunately, the only hints he was getting from his stomach at the moment were related to him skipping breakfast to make it here on time. [break][break] Hakurei was notoriously bad at seeing through deceptions, illusions, and whatever other tricks enemy shinobi might use. He was really hoping this GOKA would cackle maniacally and twirl their fu manchu like the antagonists he’d seen on his trip to Amegakure… in the moving pictures. Because short of that he wasn’t likely to spot them. [break][break] "Alright!” Hakurei clapped his hands together, naturally taking leadership of the group, "First we need someone to tail the man himself; make sure no one’s planning anything on his way in or out. Second, we should do a thorough sweep of the interior and we should obtain background checks on everyone who works here. Third and fourth, there’s a front door that needs to be monitored and the back door. Any volunteers for any specific duties?”

Hinata knew, in his heart of hearts, that whilst he had been - prompted by the individuals who checked in on him 'medically' speaking - signed up for this. He had almost no choice of coming up victorious. Everyone else was just far too experienced and of higher rank. He didn't even know how to do all the academy jutsu yet and was still working on his chakra, and he had a feeling that today he would be put to the test in that regard as well. Though the majority of the thing was about finding invaders more than anything else. The first bit was figuring out motions and behaviors, which was good to learn about.

Hinata, having been too nervous as they were led out onto the snowy street and set to work did not immediately notice Asa's new eye. He wasn't one to look at people's faces anyway as he thought this would likely be some kind of offensive to his higher-ups.

When Hakurei spoke up and explained the setup, Hinata would raise his hand gingerly.

"The most imposing should stay with the... client...?" He wasn't sure what the man was called but he would just call him client for now.

"I would be okay with the back door... If no one else contests."

Reiji Nue

Well, that was great. The moment he was trying to get in some more combat training to not fall behind other shinobi his rank and there he was once again being the guy sticking out of the crowd in the middle of a Yuki garden sale. Thankfully, there was someone he knew, otherwise he might have really decided to just up and leave and go back to his medic studies.

"H-hey...are you s-sure this isn't meant to be a Yuki clan thing...r-right?" The young nue whined softly, ignoring all the others and half hiding behind Hakurei, one hand up holding the man's jacket. He was really really nervous. Not only he was the only non Yuki there, but he was also wearing something completely different than the others. Something that basically gave out his origin. Out of all the people around the village, only the Nue usually walked around with skintight bodysuit and stretchy fabric boots. It made it easier to do their job as medics but didn't really help with the whole "sticking out thing."

Not to mention that Reiji didn't like being around people he didn't know. His clan wasn't exacly regarded in friendly terms when it came to their reputation within the village. Some even called them parasites...and even though most Nue dedicated life and soul being medics or saving lives, people still hated them for it.

"H-Haku..." He mumbled at the Jonin, squeezing the old Yuki's jacket's a little tighter in his gloved hand. "I, uuh, I w-was thinking that m-maybe...y'know...w-we c-c-could f-fuse together a-again..." He quietly proposed, hoping the others wouldn't hear.

In truth, he enjoyed fusing with others a whole lot. He always felt so alone back at the hospital. He didn't really even had his parents around, most of the time the two were somewhere outside country doing...whatever they did. Sure his cousin was there, but he only had agreed to keep an eye out for him because they were both in the same profession. Besides, with him being Head Medic, they rarely say eachother much outside of the diagnostic labs.

"I could...h-help you while you track the t-target...I d-don't really care about w-winning.  If t-that's okay f-for you."

Asa Yuki Hakurei Yuki Hinata Reiji Nue

Despite his hesitation about his ability to see through the "enemy" spy's tricks or tactics, Hakurei, as the most experienced shinobi in the group, was quick to jump to the command. Even if he didn't have much stealth experience, he did have leadership experience, and in a situation like this- if it were real- could be invaluable. Under a strong leader, every soldier is strong- this was a quote often used in the study of military strategy, though it was more philosophical than literal.

Hinata suggested that the most imposing individual should stay close to the client. A fair recommendation; if someone of notable strength was nearby, it could possibly dissuade an attack. Not necessarily, but it was a strategic option for sure. Allowing the person with the greatest defensive capabilities to be the last line of defense seemed like a logical recommendation.

His next suggestion was that he should take up the rear of the building. If no one else intervened or disagreed, he would make his way there.

If Hinata arrived at the back door of the building, he would find a small exit in and out. The smell of the kitchen filtered through and could easily make one hungry. There were two chefs back here, smoking cigarettes and exchanging small talk. If Hinata liked, he could speak to them, or attempt to listen in.

Back at the front, the other three would remain. Reiji asked to fuse with Hakurei to aid him on his mission. The two could sort that out among themselves.

The burden of labor to be split remained as this:

Hakurei wanted to perform a background check on the employees. If he was interested in learning more about them, he or another participant could approach the building owner to gain employee files and ask questions.

The other thing to do was to guard the client. Anyone could do this task, though they probably wouldn't be allowed directly into the meeting room, and would have to find somewhere subtle to position themselves inside the restaurant. That would give them a good vantage point to watch the other patrons, at least.

[Asa]

Asa listened to the discussion of strategy with keen interest, but her face did not betray a grain of that thought. She was GOKA, and therefore she understood the ways of the assassin very well. Of course, this was information she was not to tell most people. According to most within Yukigakure, Asa was a city guard- a Chuunin who occasionally was sent away on missions. Today she did not wear the mask of the bear, she wore the antlers of the caribou.

However, even without revealing that, Asa could still use her skills effectively. 

"I can cut down an assailant," Asa said, her voice quiet and even. "I am also well trained in speed and awareness. I can fill several roles within this plan. However, you all need to figure out your roles before I can move to action."

She had her weapons at the ready. Her two scythes and her bow were easily accessible. She would stand out practically anywhere she went, but if she had an advantageous position, she could easily fade into the background. She would leave it to the will of the group. She knew Yuki Hakurei had a perspective she did not have, given his performance in the sled race.

I don’t want to make any assumptions but we could use someone with sensory abilities or a dojutsu to check the interior for anything or anyone that shouldn’t be there and then watch the front since we can’t interrogate every customer that goes in there without raising suspicions... Do you think you could handle that Asa?”[break][break] He felt the tugging on his jacket and glanced over his shoulder at Reiji. It was surprising how different the medic behaved out in public, amongst strangers. His young friend suggested they team up for the search. It was actually pretty helpful- the Nue ability- two minds were better than one and he could do quite a bit with the excess chakra but it was still a little awkward.[break][break] "Sure.” He responded with a nod. "Reiji and I will work together on the rest. I’ll come check on you in a few minutes Hinata. I just need to talk to the owner really quickly. Everyone good with that?”[break][break] If they were, Hakurei would dip into a nearby alley to merge with Reiji before hurrying into the restaurant to find the manager.

Hinata chewed on the inside of his cheek patiently as the group discussed and ultimately it was decided that he would be going to the back door once the rest of the plan was more or less hashed out it was time to go. The boy nodded politely and departed from the rest of the crew almost immediately, he wandered around the back of the restaurant, passing by the barren walls of the outside before he would settle at the back door. He wouldn't afford himself the luxury of sitting down here, instead, he would stand. A bit awkwardly, but nonetheless vigilantly as he wanted to perform well in this event. Perhaps he would not catch the individual they were looking for, but if he could provide a good amount of assistance? That would be more than enough.

The smell that was filtering through was nice and made his stomach coil with hunger, realizing that he had not had a proper meal today. Not that it wasn't something he could not stave off. Instead he would lean against the wall nearby the back door, left ear close near the door allowing him to hear the rumbling of conversation from the cooks inside.

Hinata would listen, hoping to catch something interesting. He had considered speaking to them, but that could potentially make them suspicious and be more particular about their conversation. Without them knowing he was there, listening they wouldn't know to avoid certain topics.

Reiji Nue

Reiji was thankful that Harukei was receptive towards the whole nue thing...as well as agreeing to keep with him. He also seemed to be directing all the others to the various things they needed to be doing to get their assignment done. Well, he was the oldest and most experienced of the group, so there was no real surprised he was the one taking the lead of the whole party.

"T-thanks..." Reiji mumbled, keeping himself closer to the jounin and trailing behind him as he began to move. As soon as the old Yuki gave him the go ahead, the young medic would begin weaving signs and just disappearing inside Harukei's body before he could change idea. As usual, the initial sensation of heaviness and slight difficulty breathing followed their union, though this time the Jounin would have more than enough training together to shrug it all off and reap the benefits of Reiji's presence.

"I'm linking us up, no chakra for a little bit. Hang tight!" Reiji sounded from within the other man, taking control of the Yuki's hands for just the seconds needed to weave the seal to his jutsu. "You go do your stuff, I'll make sure to keep you going for as long as I can!"

DESCRIPTION:
An advanced version of Parasitic Connection, this technique is more or less the same as the lesser version with a single glaring difference. Specifically the speed at which the Nue clan member is capable of merging into and out of a host body. While the Parasitic Connection technique might take as much as five minutes to fully merge, the Cellular Permeation is capable of merging the Nue with a host fully within seconds. Due to this key difference it makes the Nue able to merge even in the middle of a battle and opens up the use of some Nue techniques and abilities to be used offensively against their opponents.

Considering the delicate procedure needed for this to happen, the technique usually requires one rotation as well as uninterrupted focus to be correctly executed.

(note that the host cannot mould or use charka while undergoing the merging process)

Asa Yuki Hakurei Yuki Hinata Reiji Nue

The decisions were made and the group split into their respective tasks, ready to tackle the problem together instead of as independent units. This split focus would hopefully allow them to cover more ground than if they had each decided to try to deal with the problem alone.

Asa was decided on to attempt to provide the most direct guard for the client. Though she was not allowed in the meeting room itself, she was able to enter the front of the restaurant alongside Hakurei and find a place to sit. There were no tables directly close to the door to the meeting room, primarily to prevent any listening in. There were, however, tables near the entry that would allow her to get a look at anyone coming in. However, her appearance and the weapons in hand gave away her nature as a shinobi on guard right away. If the GOKA entered by this route, she knew, they might be dissuaded away by her appearance and choose to utilize another route. How would she optimize her chances to get her sights on the target?

She also looked around the restaurant and noted a few groups she could keep an eye on. There were the servers coming in and out of the back and several patrons; a table of civilians of high class and a table of shinobi wearing Yukigakure's mark.

Hakurei and Reiji took the initiative to move ahead inside after they fused together. They went to find the owner and request the files of the employees.

"Of course," he would say, leading them back to his office and pulling open a filing cabinet which contained details on each of them. "Do you really think one of ours would be the threat?" He spoke in a stilted manner, clearly giving rehearsed lines. It served as a good reminder that this was all a training session. Hopefully the lack of "real" danger wouldn't stop them from taking it seriously. What kind of information would the duo look for within the files? Did they have any specific questions for the man?

At the back of the building, Hinata pressed his ear close to the door, trying to pick up the whispers. For the most part it seemed to be idle gossip, and he almost stopped listening, but then they began to chat about how one of their coworkers who was scheduled to be there had not yet arrived.

"It's not like Endo-san to be late," one of the chefs said, thoughtful.

"He's been less punctual lately," the other agreed with a hum. "Do you think he's been acting weird?"

Now Hinata knew someone to possibly keep an eye on. Endo-san. But how to tell which employee that was?

He wondered what it would be like to see this from an outside perspective. He recalled his childhood in the fishing village and the myriad of spooky tales his father’s crew would share for amusement during their long voyages at sea; stories of ghosts stepping into living bodies. A cold shiver ran down his spine.[break][break] He took a deep breath and felt his lungs and ribcage expand outward on the inhale as he fought against the familiar sensation of being too heavy; his muscles and bones being tighter and denser than they were just a moment before. Hakurei stumbled down the alley and out onto the street before seeming to find his composure and righting himself for the brief jaunt into the venue. Reiji’s voice echoed in his mind reassuringly and he responded in a like manner. Understood. Let me know if you need anything.[break][break] The jounin stepped into the restaurant and requested to speak to the owner privately. They were led to an office and granted access to the employee files. He stared at the owner for a moment, his normally amber eyes having taken on a violet hue, and blinked. "No, no. Probably not.” He responded with a genuine grin despite the man’s tone. The group needed to treat this like a real mission if they wanted to get anything out of it. "We just have to make sure we have all angles covered. I’m sure you can understand.” [break][break] Hakurei sat down and started reading through the files. Hey Reiji? Would you mind taking over for a moment? I’m not really sure what to look for… just people who could be replaced without anyone noticing… I don’t know. Hakurei rubbed his temple. This kind of thing gave him a headache and he didn’t want to waste much time on it. My first thought is just to have Hinata bluff. Ask the employees questions as they come and go, the answers need to be things that could be verified in these files, and just see who starts acting nervous. Maybe that’s dumb. What do you think?

[Asa]

She was partnered with Yuki Hakurei, the magician of the people of the tribe of Yuki. She had met him on several occasions before, now. First at the sled race, second in his home where he had invited her in. He was similar to Lady Shuka: they both were skilled in the manipulation of ice through magic. Perhaps she could learn things about their arts by observing him in this situation. 

Asa was heavily armed and she made no pretense about it. Her very presence would likely keep the GOKA off of the client, unless they were especially foolhardy. Even Asa did not know every member of the GOKA by name and face. She barely knew most of them by their codenames. She would likely not recognize another member of the organization incognito. But they all moved in a way that was unusual compared to most people. A lack of footsteps. Direct, powerful grace. Like a tundra predator. 

This was called The Silent Killing. Asa would likely be able to spot anyone moving with such training, given that she had studied it extensively herself. Yuki Hakurei would absolutely not be able to tell such things, from what she understood of his background. 

Still, if this kept the client safe, Asa was filling her role. 

[Yuki Hinata]

Hinata listened on until he picked up some information. The whispers made it harder to hear everything, but ultimately he gathered that he was looking for a certain late-employee Endo-san. He had no idea what he looked like however, though there was a good chance that if he was supposedly 'acting weird' then he would be looking for someone who was not necessarily at their peak as far as looking or acting like a normal human being. This made things easier, at least in a manner of speaking. The boy inhaled slowly, his eyes closed and he would inch away from the door. He could still stay behind the building and catch anyone who was back here but he could also look around the corner of the building towards the front where he had come from. This would allow him to also see if someone was coming from the front that could potentially fit an Endo-san vibe. Endo-san.... Acting weird... Late... He was probably in a hurry but probably didn't fit the description of someone who was acting normal. So, Hinata concentrated hard he wanted to catch anyone who could possibly fit that description.

He knew he had no chance at actually doing well in this situation since he was the lowest ranking person here but he wanted to do his best and at least impress someone.

Asa Yuki Hakurei Yuki Hinata Reiji Nue

Hakurei asked Reiji for guidance on the files, but Reiji was evidently just as uncertain as him, because he had little in the way of guidance to give. In absence of them being able to figure out what to do, the owner did give them some kind of guidance.

"You know... One of my employees has been having some trouble recently. Endo never had issues coming into work, but he has been late the last few days. He told me he's been having trouble sleeping," the owner explained to Hakurei. "And paranoid. I was worried that someone might be giving him trouble." Could it be the case that someone had been watching Endo recently? If that was it, it could be a special operative attempting to steal his identity.

As Asa kept her appearance relatively obvious, no one mysterious or strange seemed to come through the front. Occasionally a customer would enter and be seated, but for now all seemed well at the front of the house. Would Asa keep her post and keep watch, or would she attempt to find the others to work out the next plan, or something else to do?

On Hinata's end, at the back of the restaurant, he watched someone arrive in the back. He seemed to be rushing, a little hurried, but didn't seem all that strange beyond that. Might this man be Endo-san? "Endo" (Hinata would assume it was him for now, just in case) seemed like he was about to go in the back and enter the restaurant. Would Hinata intervene himself to question this chef, or go find one of the other shinobi working with him to help?
