A nickname earned for simply being tall and giving off the same uncompromising impression as steel, and one utilized more so by villagers, family and friends rather than herself. APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 6'8"

Tall and athletic, Shizuka cuts more of a regal figure rather than an imposing one despite her towering height, carrying her angular features and chin high. Her hair is cut short in the front, to around chin-length, framing her deep blue eyes with a short fringe and wild bangs, while in her back she has woven her rear-length blonde hair into a thick braid in an attempt to keep it under control during the rather active life of a kunoichi.
For clothing the young woman prefers clothes that allow her freedom of movement, while granting her some sense of self-fulfillment, which typically means sturdy skirts and vests, worn underneath the armor fashioned by Shizuka herself back home. As a result of working near and with fire, the woman’s field clothes and more sturdier civilian threads are all somewhat fire retardant when put against non-chakra-caused heat.
The armor consists of sturdy but lightweight gloves, corset, boots as well as ornately decorated headdress engraved with the Iwagakure symbol, serving as a headband as well as a piece of personally styled armor. All of this is, as is true to Tantetsu tradition, Chakra-reactive and forged entirely by Shizuka herself as part of her coming-of-age ritual.
In civilian clothes Shizuka dresses as she pleases; dresses, shirts, skirts or loose fitting casual wear; she does it all.

Intensely focused on her duty to both Clan, Village and Team, Shizuka carries about her an air of cold, uncompromising determination, her emotions hidden behind a neutral expression that she seldomly takes off, even when in public and on the streets of Iwagakure. That is not to say that she cares for nothing but her duty, a fact often made clear when she goes out of her way to offer help to civilians in the street, frequently working into the late hours where she can. Throughout this however, her expression never wavers far from a neutral smile and short but cordial conversation, keeping everyone at an arm’s length, emotionally or otherwise.
Her facade fades away when around her family and clan, allowing herself to smile and be herself; quick to laughter and lending a nurturing hand in the education of the children, though the latter carries her air of constant vigil, ever the watchful protector. Her joyous self shines when she’s allowed to indulge in her hobbies of metal craft and sewing; the latter of which she is fast becoming quite adept in.
Though emotionally muted in public or when on duty, Shizuka, like so many others is not in perfect control and attempts to handle herself by assuming an expressionless mask, trying to process whatever emotion is running its course until it either breaks her facade or she regains herself, often accentuated by a small sigh of relief.
She remains constantly afraid of loss, and keeps a distance to anyone but the closest friends and family, within her clan or otherwise, though she tries to participate, her now ingrained response of adopting a neutral expression often makes this difficult, as her peers often see her as ‘above it all’ or worse, always appearing distantly apart of whatever activity in which she’s participating.
HISTORY Already at an early age, Shizuka was subject to a heavily involved tutelage with the goal of honing her budding skill with the Tantetsu clan’s honored Kekkei Tota; Kõton. Taught under her older sister and brothers, Shizuka showed steady progress throughout her childhood, ever the diligent little child, ingrained with a desire to please her family and peers, which would later show itself to be a detriment to her growth as a person. True to Tantetsu tradition, a lot of her early life would be heavily influenced by the clan as a whole, and seldomly if at all by the rest of the village, leaving her withdrawn and ever so slightly judgemental of the rest of her peers around Iwagakure, preferring her sister, brothers and cousins company, as well as the oddly comforting heat of the forges.
This withdrawn early stage as well as her near constant praise and the ever growing expectations placed upon her would later show themselves as some considerable social weights dragging Shizuka down throughout her time at the Academy, viewing herself as above most, and competing with the rest, pursuing the praise of her teachers in place of the once constant comments on her prowess provided by her family and clan. While some was given, it never compared to the bias she once had.
Not understanding exactly why she was no longer this gifted child and rather just another aspiring Kunoichi like the rest of her peers, Shizuka withdrew into herself and became a quiet, aloof personality towards the end of her exam and well into her first year on a Genin team.
Her family soon caught on to what their praise had caused, and through her siblings and what few friends she had within the Tantetsu, Shizuka began the journey towards bettering herself, though this too she would misinterpret, as once the conversations died down and she’d convinced her peers as well as herself that she would be less driven by competition and attempting to extend the same care she had for the clan to those of the village. This instead would present Shizuka with a turn in her personality towards the other extreme; presenting herself as overly protective and eager to throw herself in harm’s way to shield her peers, viewing it as another way to earn the praise she’d become so accustomed to.
Throughout her later Genin career and a short time after the Chuunin exam, Shizuka would slowly come to settle on a mixed personality who threw up social walls while settling for a level of professional praise from her team leaders and peers, dedicating herself wholly to perform to the best of her abilities, concerned about her team’s well-being at first out of a selfish need, but later on, thanks to an unfortunate event, she would come to make the decision to gladly sacrifice herself to protect those around her, lest others suffer a loss.
Which brings us to the Chuunin exam, more specifically Shizuka’s first attempt and the first time Shizuka would come to know loss for what it is, without a selfish detachment but instead the deep, scarring burn that no tonic or jutsu can mend. During a rather harrowing climb to the top of a mountain; a decision made by the more daring member of Shizuka’s team; a go-getter with not a mean bone in her body, said member lost her focus while trying to keep the spirit of her team up, slipping on a perilous stretch of loose slate, snow and gravel. The collective yelps of surprise unleashed an avalanche, sweeping the team with it and dragging them apart with Shizuka’s hesitation to throw a line rather than simply tossing it resulting in the loss of a person she only realized then and there she’d come to consider a friend, despising herself for that moment’s hesitation, Shizuka was deemed unfit to pass the first Chuunin exam, instead resigning herself to be a muted silhouette masquerading as a Genin, too afraid of failure and the risk of another loss, she instead spent hours upon hours mastering defensive technique after defensive technique, jutsus to alter the terrain, anything that might have helped that day; if she knew how to, she’d do it.
With the next exam, she threw herself first, she wouldn’t allow her team to go first over a ravine, no river was traversed before Shizuka herself had swam or jumped across it, she became an overbearing protector, afraid of another loss, motivated by her own fear, and while she considered herself on friendly terms with her team, she never considered them friends, for what if she had to suffer that same loss again?
After her exam, she chose to detach herself from her team and instead stayed within the village and the lands of her clan, shutting herself off once again to better herself with barely a thought for her own well-being. She came to view the civilians and other Shinobi of the village as her charges, detaching herself emotionally, earning herself a reputation as a stoic guardian, aloof like a noble.
Her haphazard, selfless dedication came with one benefit; her personal growth as a Kunoichi saw her fast promoted to the rank of Special Jounin, the information of which sparked the faintest flame of joy akin to the praise of old. The promotion, however, came with a caveat; that she apply herself to active duty within a team once again, starting with her assignment to Ops. Team 2.
And here we are, Shizuka facing the prospect of once again growing closer to a team of peers, and the ever looming fear of loss which sends an occasional paralyzing chill down her spine.
FIGHTING STYLE Shizuka prefers to bide her time and let her opponent attack her defenses, hoping to gather crucial information that might allow her or her team to gain the upper hand and seize victory. She tends to focus her tremendous control on hardened defenses and has been well-renowned for their nigh-impenetrable status, combining it with harsh retaliation strikes to punish brash opponents.
As a complimentary to her defensive and analytical approach to combat, Shizuka prefers to manipulate the field to her advantage, such as creating obstacles or destroying possibly advantageous positions that her opposition might attempt to use.
When she has to switch it up and go on the offensive, she tosses caution to the wind which is more so a show of her insecurity when taking the offensive rather than carelessness on her part, wanting to end the situation sooner rather than later, and will more than likely withdraw back into her defenses when she should perhaps keep the pressure up.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Kōton Prodigy
Blessed with the Tantetsu clan’s revered Kekkei Tota, Shizuka is able to utilize the Kōton as well its associated techniques. Indeed she is perhaps a bit of a prodigy when it comes to its application and usage as a result of an early tutelage and introduction into its secrets, able to produce denser structures at a precise and expedient rate, able to utilize some of the most advanced Kōton techniques even at her young age.
Her strengths as a Kõton user comes from the hardness of her constructs, often much harder than those performed by other Kõton users in the field, even ones older than herself, thus enabling her Kõton to penetrate or stave off stronger barriers or defenses in comparison, up scaling it to the next rank above the technique itself or the techniques listed, whichever is higher.
Exquisite Chakra Control
Shizuka’s persistent training at the Tantetsu forges, manipulating, crafting and deconstructing steel and other metals over and over again, as well as her ability to immerse herself fully into a task has paid off in the kunoichi’s outstanding ability to control her flow of chakra, never applying more than is exactly right for the situation, as well as enabling her to apply it precisely as needed without exerting herself ahead of time. She often applies this to craft the most durable defenses or to show her often surprising skill with her clan’s Kekkei tota’s more advanced techniques which all require an uncompromising amount of control over one’s chakra. Indeed the kunoichi shows great control and it is for this reason, among others, that she was granted her rank of Special Jounin.
Medical Practitioner
Shizuka put it on herself to learn proper medical procedures following the loss of a friend, meticulously studying anatomy and surgical techniques as well as the more urgent medical methods of treatment while in the field. She utilizes her Kõton to generate sterilized tools if short-handed or caught without her supplies. While she thankfully has not had to apply her surgical knowledge yet, she knows how to turn a near-fatal injury into a fighting chance outside of a medical suite. Furthermore she's been educated in the use of toxins and venoms and how they affect the human body and mind, though she rarely carries these with her.
Hard as Steel
As a Tantetsu, Shizuka’s physiology is one of strength and endurance more so than speed and agility, even for someone less built like her. She realized early on that brute strength however, was not her approach, and focused instead on building herself up to be harder and tougher, able to keep up with the strongest of the bunch until she’d figured out her own plan of attack. She’s often been likened to living steel, able to withstand physical blows and even cuts performed by some of the strongest physical attacks such as Doton, Suiton, Tai or Bukijutsu techniques at a rank as high as B without much harm beyond bruising, though sustained attacks to the same region will eventually cause much more than mere bruising.
