Rin was not often assigned to missions in Konohagakure, but when such a thing was required he delivered the task. Hi no Kuni was a vast land, and today the mission scroll dictated that he would be escorting a singular merchant vessel from port to its destination in Tea Country not too far off. Though, Rin would not be alone. He was being joined up by a genin, assigned to gain some experience. Rin was more than content to assist in such an endeavor. It was a bit more small time in comparison to what he had been doing, but he didn't complain much. Sometimes, it was better to nurture the small fry of his village and the allied villages than to work on his own skill. After all, his skill was being put to better use in slightly more classified tasks.

So, he stood on the dock today near the merchant ship named 'Sea Wolf' listening to the wind and creaking wood of the dock as he waited for the arrival of a certain Hyuga having already stowed away his belongings on the ship itself. The merchant in question having expressed his gratitude ten times over at this point in regards to the mission itself, Rin being mostly bashful and assuring the man that it was in fact not a problem.

A small yawn escaped him, the sea did have a way of lulling anyone to sleep. Unsurprising, considering how foreign this sort of thing was to Rin who spent most of his time in hot deserts and mountaintops so high they could take your breath away.

This was going to be his first time on a mission in nearly four years, and on top of that, he was going to be working alongside a Shinobi from the Hidden Sand Village, so it went without saying that the heir to the Hyuuga clan was feeling quite excited, and also a little nervous. He was back to the regular forces and he needed to use this opportunity to prove to everyone - and to himself, most of all - that he was ready and worthy. To add to the pressure, the Sand Shinobi he was going to be assisting on this mission was a Jounin, and the thought of it made his heart accelerate a bit. "I can do this! I've been training hard all these years..." the young man thought to himself as he made his way to the port. The mission seemed straightforward enough: they were to escort a merchand vessel to the Tea Country, which wasn't too far away. As he arrived at the port, he was quick to identify the vessel named 'Sea Wolf', and he took but a brief moment to stop and let himself feel the gentle sea breezing touching his face, it was a very pleasant feeling. His white eyes also caught a glimpse of someone who looked rather imposing, despite the fact that he was yawning a few moments ago. The fact that a captain looking person was there, expressing his gratitude to the man over and over again gave Shigure the confidence that the blonde was his companion for this mission. Cracking a friendly smile on his face, he bowed respectfully. "Sato-san, sorry if I made you wait. I'm Hyuuga Shigure, and I'm here to assist you with this mission." his tone was quite friendly and polite, and once he introduced himself to the Jounin, he turned his body to face the captain and bowed to him as well. "I will do my best to ensure the safety of your vessel!" his tone now carried a bit more emotion and confidence. It was clear that the boy was fired up.

Rin was expecting a slightly younger individual to appear, well, perhaps not much younger, but certainly just a little shorter. Unfortunately, as per usual, Rin was slightly surpassed in height, even if it was the smallest and almost imperceivable difference. That, and well Shigure was definitely older at least he looked it in the face. Not that Rin had much of a leg to stand on, being a shinobi of higher rank, and having seen the things that he had seen and experienced, he had aged a little bit. Still, the lines of youth were still present in his smile as Shigure approached. It would be a shame if there were no signs of youth, after all, Rin was only fifteen.

"Good to meet you Shigure-kun, you don't have to call me Sato, Rin-san will do." Sato was his family name, and well it felt a little odd to be called by his last name. Some people treated him as if he were older than he actually was, unsurprisingly though since he was quite high-ranked and acted older. But, he had to act older. Acting younger would get him killed in the line of duty.

"Let's board and get going!"

With that, he would step up onto the ship with a quick jump and once Shigure was on, it wouldn't take long before they set-sailed upon the dark blue sea.

"Keep an eye out," Rin didn't necessarily need someone to keep an eye out since he would be able to sense any chakra signature within a fairly large radius, but an extra set of eyes would not go without its own gratitude.

"So, Shigure..!" As they got out of port and into deeper waters, Rin decided it was best to pass the time with a bit of talking.

"Ever been out of Hi no Kuni before?" Some genin never got that kind of opportunity, he certainly had not as a genin, and these sorts of things could be very exciting.

Rin has a mastery level of knowledge in all things related to the medical field. He can address a variety of different types of wounds - preposterously large and small. He is also capable of identifying herbs and plants with ease, capable of calling upon them in a pinch and identifying them in the wild as if it is second nature - this makes for understanding toxins that exist within plants allowing him to coat weaponry without hassle.

His extensive work at the hospital has allowed him an intense knowledge in human anatomy, not only giving him an upper hand in healing but also knowing exactly where to hit his opponents to deal damage that can potentially leave opponents exactly as he wants them - alive or dead. This also extends into an understanding of the human nervous system within the anatomy. Rin's medical knowledge is highly effective in combat for these reasons, making him a deadly shinobi to tango with.

His chakra control is unrivaled at least among those that do not possess the same control. It is far beyond that of an average jounin. Rin is able to minimize his chakra usage so effectively, that is is certainly something to envy. His efficiency makes him quite difficult to deal with on the battlefield, and raises his status as a superior medical shinobi as well.

Due to his extensive medical training over an extensive period of time, he is precise in his movements in all situations. His muscles twitch precisely in battle, and his weapon throws are genuinely more impressive especially more so than anyone of his rank. Precision is also handy in medical ninjutsu, as his precision gives him a steady hand when needing to extract something, simply be more careful in a situation when it comes to the human body, or alternatively, he is capable of using medical techniques in combat with ease due to his ability to be precise.

His speed is envious among those that do not practice the art of it. He is able to utilize his size to its absolute maximum, he is a considerable amount faster than the average jounin, and he can go toe-to-toe with an elite jounin particularly those that have not trained their speed. He is without a doubt hard to keep up with, and among the fastest medical shinobi in the land.

Rule of the Chakra Scalpel
Combining his precision, speed, and his knowledge of the medical arts Rin is able to utilize the chakra scalpel technique now on his entire body. No longer limited to just his hands. This jutsu is able to cut through many things with precise ease, and Rin is able to concentrate this jutsu to his body as easily as he does his hands. Concentrating the jutsu to other parts of his body does not drain anymore chakra from him than it does his hands. This detailed knowledge of the chakra scalpel has allowed him to use it more effectively in combat.
However, he can only focus the chakra scalpel in two spots - at the same time - on his body at a given time, making him a walking, talking blade if it so requires.


Medical Sensor Shinobi | ACTIVE
Due to his impeccable chakra control and very specific training Rin has developed the ability to sense chakra signatures all around him. As a jounin passively he can register chakra signatures within a 400m range. When actively searching with a little more chakra output he can visualize 2km.

Utilizing his medical capabilities, he has through training inherited medical sensory knowledge from his mentor - Matsu - and as a result has been able to magnify his sensory to being able to detect the health of others. Ultimately able to see what is wrong on the inside before he ever sees the outside to diagnose. Investing more chakra, his radius will reduce to 250m able to detect general health of targets in that range. By expending more chakra the range is reduced to 2.5m but will also allow Rin to read very specific medical information presented in the targets in that area - everything between broken bones and limbs, internal ruptures and the presence of toxins, diseases and other pathogens.


Evasive Maneuver
Rin is fast as it is, however to keep up with the fastest shinobi in the land especially with his primary fighting style he has developed an ability to get out of dodge when put in sticky situations up close. Speed and maneuverability significantly enhanced to get out of hitting radius, or simply to escape what he might deem as an unwinnable situation.

Through much dedicated time, as a jounin Rin has all but mastered the art of hand seals. He is a great deal faster at weaving the tight seals, and can also perform hand seals with a singular hand if the other is somehow occupied. Unsurprisingly, this makes him slower than someone who would dedicate to speed alone, or one-handed hand seals alone, but he is faster and much more proficient than jounin who have neither. What may take a normal individual several moments to fire off a jutsu, it takes Rin approximately half the time with both hands, and what is considered a quarter of the time below average for one-handed, thus intensifying his threat levels as a ninjutsu user.

Now that Shigure was seeing the Jounin from up close, he noticed just how young he looked, and deep down he felt really embarrassed due to the fact that, despite being 19 years old, he was still a Genin. He was hoping that this mission would mark a transition to his career as a Shinobi, one that would start a movement of progress and development, without the shadow of his past traumas, as the ghost of his fallen teammates no longer haunted his nights. The Sand Jounin seemed to be quite chill, and outright told Shigure to just call him by his first name, to which he nodded in agreement. "Alright, Rin-san!" he said before following the Jounin aboard the vessel. With the two Shinobi on the ship, the Captain set sail without delay, and they were now in route to their destination. The young man approached the larboard side and watched the horizon as a subtle yet happy smile took over his face. "It's so beautiful..." he thought to himself, contemplating the ocean. Shigure was fond of gazing at clouds and the blue skies, so the ocean was also quite attractive to the Hyuuga. While he was stating at the horizon, Rin approached, bringing him back from the land of his own daydreams to reality. The warning from the Jounin was taken seriously and, after a firm nod, Shigure frowned his brows, prompting thick veins to pop out on the sides of his face, as his whole world expanded. "Byakugan!" he shouted. The normally white eyes now possessed a semblance of an iris, and he could see all around him for a distance of 650 metres. There was really nothing dangerous in the radius of his Byakugan, and after a careful inspection, he felt it was ok to deactivate his doujutsu for the time being, and the veins quickly faded away, followed by a short sigh. Rin was friendly enough and was starting a conversation; normally Shigure would do the same, but he was admittedly intimidated by the gap in their rank, despite the Sand Shinobi being younger. "Well... Not often... Once I went to Mizu no Kuni, around four years ago..." he paused as he touched his chin, thinking for a moment until he seemed satisfied the answer was correct. "But my family was always a bit overzealous and they never really thought I was ready until recently..." he admitted, shrugging a bit. It was embarrassing to admit he was a caged bird, but the Leaf Genin was quite honest. "I'm sure you have been all over the place, Rin-san... Being a Jounin at such a young age, can't say I'm not jealous!" he chuckled a bit.

Like all members of the Hyuuga clan, Shigure also has the famous byakugan as one of his signature traits. Like every byakugan, Shigure’s eyes have the ability to see in a 359 degrees, except for a single 1 degree spot on the back of his head. On top of that he is able to see through most objects, giving him a great perception of his environment and making it very hard to surprise or ambush the Hyuuga when he has his doujutsu activated. Having seriously trained to develop his sight, Shigure managed to increase the range of his Byakugan from an initial range of 10 meters, to a respectful 650 meters range, which makes him quite the competent tracker in missions, being also able to discern clones from their makers, see through chakra barriers, determine the color of a chakra and determine if a genjutsu is being used or not.

He is also very capable in his ability to see chakra, including the chakra circulatory system inside a shinobi’s body, thus allowing him to identify the precise location of the tenketsus, which are one of the knowledge required to use Gentle Fists to its maximum capacity, power and finesse. On top of all that, Shigure’s training and experience as a people’s person allowed him to unify it with his byakugan power, thus making him quite competent while reading people’s emotions. Therefore, while using his byakugan, he can usually detect if someone is lying, though the impulses of the brain, heartbeat and such, and sometimes even anticipate reactions based on the body functions prior to an action. This skill, however, requires immense focus and he still struggles a lot to use it.

ENHANCED SPEED

What Shigure lacks in physical strength he definitely makes it up in the speed department. Being trained ever since his early childhood on the mighty Gentle Fist, he learned soon enough that raw power was completely useless for his style since, in the end, nobody can train their inner organs to become stronger and thus the chakra injected by the Hyuuga fighting style was more than enough to achieve the desired results. Thus, the truly efficient way to improve his fighting capabilities were tied to how fast could he act and react in a fight.

Shigure’s reflexes are absurdly sharp and he can react almost instantly to attacks, which makes him quite skilled in countering strikes with his deadly Gentle Fist. He can also land more blows per second than most of his peers, moving so swiftly that it’s even hard to keep up without enhanced eyesight. This, together with his Byakugan makes him really dangerous in close quarters because, in short, he can attack fast, he can counter fast and he can react fast to the situation.

Rin wasn't expecting the other to shout and might have jumped ever so slightly at Shigure's overzealous nature. Of course, shouting wasn't exactly new or weird, it was just shouting one's ability out was what threw Rin off, most shinobi preferred to be a bit more stealthy. At least they were out in the sea, or at least on their way, which meant that the wind and roaring water would easily drown the shouts to enemies soon enough.

"Don't be too loud, don't want to attract unwanted attention," He felt it was a necessary thing to note anyway. He didn't know what kind of dreams or aspirations Shigure had for his career, but being quiet would probably aid him one way or another, or at least learning how to do things without announcing them too outwardly.

The blond was a bit shocked to hear that Shigure had been to Mizu no Kuni, a known and sworn enemy country. He wondered how that had worked out, or if perhaps he had been for chunin exams that had not gone well, or maybe just in support of someone else in his clan or village? Rin wasn't going to pry, it wasn't necessarily his business.

"I wouldn't be jealous," Rin waved it off, a higher rank meant more responsibility. Perhaps it was a status of honor, but it was not something that Rin carried a badge of pride with. It had come with more woes and trauma than flag-waving excitement and pride. "It's not all that you genin think, and I speak from experience," Rin recalled how not that long ago he was pining to be a jounin, and he was here now and frankly it was more terrifying than delightful.

"You'd be surprised, I haven't really been to that many places. I'm bound to my country with paperwork more often than not." He shared, he wasn't a jounin that was often sent on huge assassination missions, that was usually left to the ANBU.

"Plus, I'm sure you'll get there in no time with a little hard work, anything is possible."

The Hyuuga nodded, acknowledging the warning from Rin that he shouldn't be too loud. Indeed, stealth was extremely important as a Shinobi, but being mainly a Taijutsu fighter, most of his action actually happened on the frontlines, where stealth plays a minor role. Rin made it seemed like it wasn't that crazy big of deal to be jealous of, being a Jounin. There was a lot of paperwork involved and office jobs, rather than the more hands on Shinobi work, and not a lot of travel. Shure nodded to that, but took it with a grain of salt. "It can vary a lot, person to person..." he thought, while still finding wisdom to be learned from the Sand Jounin's words. His smile widened a bit when Rin mentioned that he could get there in no time with hard work. "Mhm!" agreed the young man, clenching his fist in mild excitement. "I will do my best to become a good Jounin one day!" he said, with conviction in his tone. He was already training hard, and actually seeing such a young Jounin in front of him, telling him he could do it was really an inspirational experience.

"I suppose it can," Rin responded, he certainly did a lot less paperwork than his mentor did, both of them in fact... Akane was drowning in it and Matsu was in no short terms also up to his neck in paperwork. But such was the burden of someone working in the Kazekage's office and the head hospital in Sunagakure. Unfortunately, Shigure would find that Rin was being purely objective as jounin did a lot of paperwork and scroll filing after missions for the rest of their team. Being in charge of a team meant he was constantly making sure that everything was filed away safely and that the work that needed to be done was done. At times even assigning missions to his subordinates if it was necessary.

Just like he would have to do with this mission, unsurprisingly.

"Enjoy all the moments until then, though, rushing to grow up isn't all that great." Rin rushed to this rank and now he stood as the youngest among the rank and yet he felt very little satisfaction in it. As if he didn't fully achieve what he wanted to achieve. It was almost lackluster and even worse he had lost the opportunity to make friendships because everyone who was his age was a genin, or on an off chance a chunin, which meant he was constantly dealing with peers not understanding what he was going through, whilst those his rank being older often not knowing how to relate to the younger jounin.

Rin stared out to the horizon and took a deep breath.

"The sea is very cooling..." He would comment idly before looking at Shigure.

"So, what are your strengths and focuses as a shinobi? You clearly have a dojutsu," Rin was vaguely aware of the dojutsus. He knew of the Uchiha clan, and only vaguely of the Hyuuga clan.

Shigure chuckled a bit and scratched the back of his neck in mild embarrassment as Rin told him to not rush things and enjoy all the moments before growing up. The boy gazed away to the horizon, to the sea and then took a deep breath as his smile faded away into a more serious expression. ”I’m not that young anymore, I’m almost twenty years old, and I’m still a Genin… I’m not rushing things, Rin-san, I’m only trying to bring myself to a level where I can be proud of, to a level I can more meaningfully contribute to my village, my clan, and our alliance.” he said, forcing a small smile to return to his thin lips. His comments on the sea were accurate and yet curious. Shigure stared at the Jounin with the corner of his eyes, and wondered just how things were in the Hidden Sand. He knew Kaze no Kuni was quite the arid place, with many deserts, so it only made sense that the boy was feeling refreshed, while Shigure felt like this was quite the normal - yet pleasant - weather. I can also seal the tenketsus in someone's body and prevent them from using their chakra in battle… And…” and the man touched his chin in a thoughtful expression for a bit. ”I can use Fire Release! Although I’m not very proficient with it.” he added, hoping that his explanation would be enough.

"I meant in rank, not in age, but I understand your desire..." He understood it, but no longer fully agreed with it. Still, there was little he could say to persuade the other to take his own time. Mostly, because there was little anyone could say to Rin that could have made him take his time, and so he was here.

The question was exclusive to learn about Shigure's strengths to make sure that Rin could react accordingly on the mission. He didn't want to put Shigure somewhere or task him with something that he did not excel in. Though, oftentimes it also reinforced in the genin what they could do, and what they could not do realistically. Some did not see it but now and again stating these things out loud allowed for some self-reflection in a way.

At least, it had been for Rin, who did a lot of self-reflection nowadays.

There was a series of things it seemed that the other boy was good at, taijutsu, dojutsu, being able to see far and all around him. It was a plethora of things that would certainly aid him in the future. Things that Rin did not possess at Shigure's rank, he would be impressive when the time came as he was quite proficient and impressive now too.

"Your clan is rather versatile," He commented in a complimenting way before glancing towards the water. "I'll be sure to not worry too much about your skills if we get attacked..."

Rin would grow silent, occasionally striking up a conversation about life in Konoha or more vague things here and there as they got out into darker waters and the wind became cooler he was more alert of the world around him. As they travelled the general silence became a bit eerie and Rin was a little more aware as a blip of chakra made itself known just below the ship before a wave came to try and capsize their vessel.

It was a decent distance away, however, as the enemy was attempting to form a wave substantial enough to actually knock the ship over. This gave Rin time to react, weaving a fairly long set of hand seals - though in almost half the time - he would summon his own wave much larger, counteracting the opposing water as the two collided in the middle. Water flew everywhere, and from the collision, three individuals would leap upon the ship, one immediately going for Shigure swinging a sword, the other two going for Rin.

Shigure smiled with a hint of pride when he heard the Sand Jounin calling his clan versatile. That word was a good choice to describe the Hyuuga, one of the strongest clans in the Hidden Leaf since the founding of the village. The young heir to the clan nodded to the leader of the mission. "Thank you! I appreciate your faith in my skills, I will make sure not to disappoint!" he emphatically said it; he was really focused on doing his very best in this mission, he needed to prove to himself he was capable. The trip proceeded calmly for a while, and Ren just occasionally activated his Byakugan to check on the surrounding areas, while casually talking to Rin every now and then, mostly about amenities, life in the village and such. The boy would enthusiastically speak of the Hidden Leaf, highlighting its amazing cuisine, making it clear that he was somewhat of a foodie. But as the waters got darker, the situation started growing more serious, as this was the main part of their mission. Suddenly, he noticed that Rin got serious. "Did he notice something?" and as he thought that, he frowned his brows, activating his doujutsu, which allowed him to see the massive amount of chakra inside the wave heading heir way, meaning someone was definitely using a powerful Water Release. Shigure saw Rin molding chakra inside of him, and that was enough for him to know that the Jounin was taking measures regarding the wave, so he focuses on scanning around the area. Thanks to his visual prowess he saw the three individuals positioning themselves behind their wave, only to leap towards the ship. "Three of them, incoming from starboard!" he alerted Rin, as he didn't know how good of a sensor he was; better to be overzealous than to leave a companion in a pinch. Likely due to the fact that the younger boy could match the strength of their Water Release, two of the man went towards Rin, while one of them headed towards Shigure, with a sword in their hand. Knowing there were only three of them, he could focus his Byakugan in this individual alone, and see the his chakra, heartbeat and brain impulses. He was about to attack with his sword, and this brief prediction of his action gave the Genin a big advantage. With a fighting style favouring avoiding attacks, high speed movement, and counters, Shigure used his right hand to deflect the blow to his right side by hitting the man's hands with his Gentle Fist, while his left hand - index and middle fingers ready - swiftly delivered two strikes to the tenketsus around his fist, seriously weakening his grip and making the man flinch. The man took a big step backwards and grunted as he noticed that his right hand grip was compromised. Shigure took a half step in, showing he was ready to continue fighting.

BYAKUGAN

Like all members of the Hyuuga clan, Shigure also has the famous byakugan as one of his signature traits. Like every byakugan, Shigure’s eyes have the ability to see in a 359 degrees, except for a single 1 degree spot on the back of his head. On top of that he is able to see through most objects, giving him a great perception of his environment and making it very hard to surprise or ambush the Hyuuga when he has his doujutsu activated. Having seriously trained to develop his sight, Shigure managed to increase the range of his Byakugan from an initial range of 10 meters, to a respectful 650 meters range, which makes him quite the competent tracker in missions, being also able to discern clones from their makers, see through chakra barriers, determine the color of a chakra and determine if a genjutsu is being used or not.

He is also very capable in his ability to see chakra, including the chakra circulatory system inside a shinobi’s body, thus allowing him to identify the precise location of the tenketsus, which are one of the knowledge required to use Gentle Fists to its maximum capacity, power and finesse. On top of all that, Shigure’s training and experience as a people’s person allowed him to unify it with his byakugan power, thus making him quite competent while reading people’s emotions. Therefore, while using his byakugan, he can usually detect if someone is lying, though the impulses of the brain, heartbeat and such, and sometimes even anticipate reactions based on the body functions prior to an action. This skill, however, requires immense focus and he still struggles a lot to use it.

ENHANCED SPEED

What Shigure lacks in physical strength he definitely makes it up in the speed department. Being trained ever since his early childhood on the mighty Gentle Fist, he learned soon enough that raw power was completely useless for his style since, in the end, nobody can train their inner organs to become stronger and thus the chakra injected by the Hyuuga fighting style was more than enough to achieve the desired results. Thus, the truly efficient way to improve his fighting capabilities were tied to how fast could he act and react in a fight.

Shigure’s reflexes are absurdly sharp and he can react almost instantly to attacks, which makes him quite skilled in countering strikes with his deadly Gentle Fist. He can also land more blows per second than most of his peers, moving so swiftly that it’s even hard to keep up without enhanced eyesight. This, together with his Byakugan makes him really dangerous in close quarters because, in short, he can attack fast, he can counter fast and he can react fast to the situation.

fighting style

As it should be expected, Shigure fighting style is entirely based on the Gentle Fist of the Hyuuga clan. Thus, he usually fights bare handed and mostly focusing on using his hands to attack, deflect and block. His speed is highly above average and that allows him to apply some wicked footwork, making him quite hard to hit in melee combat. He keeps himself moving during combat, even if just slightly in order to keep the opponent from using their own maai (the distance in which someone can attack), while, at the same time, measuring his own maai and making sure his body is ready to dash forward and attack. He focuses not only in the eyes of his opponents while fighting, but on his heartbeat and brain activity thanks to the perks of his Byakugan and that allows him, sometimes, to further anticipate his opponents actions.

This particular style, combined with the powerful doujutsu made him a natural counter attacker. Shigure is quite skilled on deflecting or blocking a blow, only to almost immediately counter with a deadly strike of the Gentle Fist, either aiming at an organ, or at sealing a tenketsu, thus rending the opponent weaker over time in order to assure victory. Avoiding getting hit is one of his top priorities since he is not very strong physically, having focused entirely on the speed and swiftness of his movements.

Although he is not particularly fond of weapons, he will use them from time to time, especially when he or his group is outnumbered or overpowered. Even then, he will focus on diverting their attention in order to successfully and quickly attack them with the Gentle Fist, so his top favorite items are kunais attached to explosive notes and smoke bombs. Smoke is his friend in general, as it should be for any true shinobi blessed with the byakugan. His style is quite silent too, since even the sound of the impact of the Gentle Fist is discrete, and Shigure tries to use it to his advantage; some enemies don’t realize the damage there are suffering until it’s too late.

One of them Rin was fighting was also another swordsman, figures, seeing as they were on the water, perhaps the idea of pirates being common was not too farfetched. Either way, his partner had been obviously the one to cast the water technique, which meant he probably leaned more heavily on ninjutsu, and so he would stay back

"Where's the loot?"

"Don't know what you're talking about."

"Shinobi don't go on ships that don't have loot, don't play coy with me boy!"

"There's no loot here, now leave or get thrown over," Rin stated firmly, but was only met with aggression. The ninjutsu user weaving hand seal, whilst the one with the sword approaching at higher speeds to attack, swinging his sword almost drunkenly. Rin exhaled to calm his movement at the approach before doing a quick rotation out of the way and grabbing onto the swinging wrist, turning the assailant sharply towards what was now incoming fireballs. The jounin would make sure that the impact was not fatal, but did singe the swordsman quite significantly, he screamed in pain, before Rin pushed him away to give enough space to kick him quickly in the back, in all of his pain and suffering he would simply stumble overboard and into the cold water below.

The ninjutsu user was weaving another set of hand seals.

Creating a series of shuriken made out of water before tossing them all in succession, though five were meant for Rin, whilst the other five would fly in a circular manner towards Shigure as if to distract him from his battle whilst his own opponent attacked again.

Rin began performing hand seals whilst dodging, the strength of this particular opponent must have been chunin or something of the sort... Which meant Shigure had to be careful with those shuriken.

Either way, once the short set of seals was finished his hand began to glow in blue and he approached his enemy quickly zipping over to close the distance, performing ninjutsu was always harder when closer to the opponent.

In a blur, that the other male only managed to dodge a few of the strikes, Rin cut and jabbed with the chakra scalpel, internally disturbing the other's body hoping to put him down quickly.

The shinobi attacked again despite the fact that his grip was compromised, and that just made dodging his attack easier to the swift Genin, who took a side step to the left, and countered the same arm with three quick and sharp strikes to the other tenketsus around his wrist to the point his hand just opened; he could no longer control his fingers, and he could barely move the wrist. ”B-bastard! How are you doing this?! I will gut you!!” roared the man, unable to understand how his light pokes could have such a terrible effect. Not knowing what a Hyuuga is capable of can lead to a terrible defeat, and at this point, it was clear to Shigure that he could beat this guy fats, and join Rin to offer some assistance, although from what his Byakugan allowed him to see, it really didn’t seem like he needed any. ”Well, I will decide on that later!” he thought to himself. Taking a step forward, Shigure concentrated on dodging the next two swings, which was made even easier since the right hand had been already defeated. In sword fighting, the right hand is responsible for precision, while the left is responsible for strength, so as of now, this man would not be able to hit him with a physical attack. After the second dodge, Shigure visualized the Eight Trigrams field around him, and with the opponent inside his attacking distance - his maai - he opened his arms quickly. ”Hakke…” and before the man could react, he was already striking him with two precise attacks to the chest area. ”Ni shou!” he exclaimed, immediately following up with four strikes twice the former speed. ”Yon shou! Hasshou! Juuroku shou!” the speed kept on increasing twinfold as he hit the man eight times, and the sixteen times. As the man puked some blood from the internal damage he was suffering, Shigure readied the final step of his technique. ”Sanjuuni shou!!” and in the same span of time he initially hit the two strikes, Shigure hit the man a total of thirty two times, sending him flying a few feet before he hit the ground with his back, groaning in pain. The man tried getting up, but he was having a very hard time, and fell back to the floor. ”W-what… Did you… Do to… me?” even speaking was hard now, and Shigure didn’t feel inclined to respond. With a quick sigh, Shigure noticed just how well Rin was handling two opponents, he noticed the mastery of Rin’s usage of chakra with his chakra scalpel, and how much chakra unnecessarily leaked out of his tenketsus while using the thirty-two palms. But this was also a learning experience, as he could clearly see how the young jounin controlled the release of his own chakra. He was lucky to have been paired with Rin for this mission. Now, he just had to make sure his opponent was properly knocked out before aiding Rin, if the two opponents would still be standing at that point.

BYAKUGAN

Like all members of the Hyuuga clan, Shigure also has the famous byakugan as one of his signature traits. Like every byakugan, Shigure’s eyes have the ability to see in a 359 degrees, except for a single 1 degree spot on the back of his head. On top of that he is able to see through most objects, giving him a great perception of his environment and making it very hard to surprise or ambush the Hyuuga when he has his doujutsu activated. Having seriously trained to develop his sight, Shigure managed to increase the range of his Byakugan from an initial range of 10 meters, to a respectful 650 meters range, which makes him quite the competent tracker in missions, being also able to discern clones from their makers, see through chakra barriers, determine the color of a chakra and determine if a genjutsu is being used or not.

He is also very capable in his ability to see chakra, including the chakra circulatory system inside a shinobi’s body, thus allowing him to identify the precise location of the tenketsus, which are one of the knowledge required to use Gentle Fists to its maximum capacity, power and finesse. On top of all that, Shigure’s training and experience as a people’s person allowed him to unify it with his byakugan power, thus making him quite competent while reading people’s emotions. Therefore, while using his byakugan, he can usually detect if someone is lying, though the impulses of the brain, heartbeat and such, and sometimes even anticipate reactions based on the body functions prior to an action. This skill, however, requires immense focus and he still struggles a lot to use it.

ENHANCED SPEED

What Shigure lacks in physical strength he definitely makes it up in the speed department. Being trained ever since his early childhood on the mighty Gentle Fist, he learned soon enough that raw power was completely useless for his style since, in the end, nobody can train their inner organs to become stronger and thus the chakra injected by the Hyuuga fighting style was more than enough to achieve the desired results. Thus, the truly efficient way to improve his fighting capabilities were tied to how fast could he act and react in a fight.

Shigure’s reflexes are absurdly sharp and he can react almost instantly to attacks, which makes him quite skilled in countering strikes with his deadly Gentle Fist. He can also land more blows per second than most of his peers, moving so swiftly that it’s even hard to keep up without enhanced eyesight. This, together with his Byakugan makes him really dangerous in close quarters because, in short, he can attack fast, he can counter fast and he can react fast to the situation.

fighting style

As it should be expected, Shigure fighting style is entirely based on the Gentle Fist of the Hyuuga clan. Thus, he usually fights bare handed and mostly focusing on using his hands to attack, deflect and block. His speed is highly above average and that allows him to apply some wicked footwork, making him quite hard to hit in melee combat. He keeps himself moving during combat, even if just slightly in order to keep the opponent from using their own maai (the distance in which someone can attack), while, at the same time, measuring his own maai and making sure his body is ready to dash forward and attack. He focuses not only in the eyes of his opponents while fighting, but on his heartbeat and brain activity thanks to the perks of his Byakugan and that allows him, sometimes, to further anticipate his opponents actions.

This particular style, combined with the powerful doujutsu made him a natural counter attacker. Shigure is quite skilled on deflecting or blocking a blow, only to almost immediately counter with a deadly strike of the Gentle Fist, either aiming at an organ, or at sealing a tenketsu, thus rending the opponent weaker over time in order to assure victory. Avoiding getting hit is one of his top priorities since he is not very strong physically, having focused entirely on the speed and swiftness of his movements.

Although he is not particularly fond of weapons, he will use them from time to time, especially when he or his group is outnumbered or overpowered. Even then, he will focus on diverting their attention in order to successfully and quickly attack them with the Gentle Fist, so his top favorite items are kunais attached to explosive notes and smoke bombs. Smoke is his friend in general, as it should be for any true shinobi blessed with the byakugan. His style is quite silent too, since even the sound of the impact of the Gentle Fist is discrete, and Shigure tries to use it to his advantage; some enemies don’t realize the damage there are suffering until it’s too late.

Essentially a simplistic version of a much more powerful maneuver of the Gentle Fist . However it seems to be quite effective on it’s own. It was born from the difficulty to perform the last sequence of its parent technique. It is used to close off the flow of chakra through thirty-two chakra points of the opponent’s Chakra Pathway System, eliminating their ability to use chakra for some time and make it difficult for them to move. This is done by delivering quick strikes to the enemy in a sequence.

Once that was all said and done, the only thing left to do was to pull the internal cut-up male up onto his shoulders, and toss him overboard. He didn't give up much of a struggle, considering the fact that his wrists were more or less severed from their proper tendons and muscles, which meant he couldn't really move them. Rin didn't do a lot of fatal damage, as in, the man could if he managed to swim to shore get himself medical help but it was not Rin's job to save the enemies on missions, his number one job was to make sure the mission went well and his subordinates were not hurt. Once that was done, he turned to notice that Shigure had taken care of his own opponent as well.

"Good work..! Hopefully not too much of a hassle," He would approach Shigure then, scanning him over now that they were a bit closer to see if there was any damage done to his physical or internal being. Once he determined that Shigure was in fact safe from any harm he would glance at the crumpled man on the ground who was not having an easy time getting up. Rin took the liberty of throwing him overboard then as well, if they came from underwater they should be able to survive in the water - logically speaking anyway.

Once that was taken care of, he let out a soft sigh. These missions always had this sort of curve, but nothing that he couldn't take care of nowadays and it seemed Shigure was proficient enough to be able to take care of it all himself as well.

Rin noticed then that the captain had hidden away behind some barrels and ropes and was poking his head out.

"It's safe now, the threat is gone!" He shouted over the wind and roaring sea, with some relief on his features the captain returned to his helmsman and proceeded with the voyage.

Which with how close they were getting back to shore, made Rin assume that they were not long to get to port.

For now, though, Rin turned to look at Shigure to ask a quick question -

"So, should I be watching you at the next chunin exams?"

Superior Chakra Control
His chakra control is unrivaled at least among those that do not possess the same control. It is far beyond that of an average jounin. Rin is able to minimize his chakra usage so effectively, that is is certainly something to envy. His efficiency makes him quite difficult to deal with on the battlefield, and raises his status as a superior medical shinobi as well.

Precision Expert
Due to his extensive medical training over an extensive period of time, he is precise in his movements in all situations. His muscles twitch precisely in battle, and his weapon throws are genuinely more impressive especially more so than anyone of his rank. Precision is also handy in medical ninjutsu, as his precision gives him a steady hand when needing to extract something, simply be more careful in a situation when it comes to the human body, or alternatively, he is capable of using medical techniques in combat with ease due to his ability to be precise.

Incredible Speed
His speed is envious among those that do not practice the art of it. He is able to utilize his size to its absolute maximum, he is a considerable amount faster than the average jounin, and he can go toe-to-toe with an elite jounin particularly those that have not trained their speed. He is without a doubt hard to keep up with, and among the fastest medical shinobi in the land.

Rule of the Chakra Scalpel
Combining his precision, speed, and his knowledge of the medical arts Rin is able to utilize the chakra scalpel technique now on his entire body. No longer limited to just his hands. This jutsu is able to cut through many things with precise ease, and Rin is able to concentrate this jutsu to his body as easily as he does his hands. Concentrating the jutsu to other parts of his body does not drain anymore chakra from him than it does his hands. This detailed knowledge of the chakra scalpel has allowed him to use it more effectively in combat.
However, he can only focus the chakra scalpel in two spots - at the same time - on his body at a given time, making him a walking, talking blade if it so requires.


Medical Sensor Shinobi | ACTIVE
Due to his impeccable chakra control and very specific training Rin has developed the ability to sense chakra signatures all around him. As a jounin passively he can register chakra signatures within a 400m range. When actively searching with a little more chakra output he can visualize 2km.

Utilizing his medical capabilities, he has through training inherited medical sensory knowledge from his mentor - Matsu - and as a result has been able to magnify his sensory to being able to detect the health of others. Ultimately able to see what is wrong on the inside before he ever sees the outside to diagnose. Investing more chakra, his radius will reduce to 250m able to detect general health of targets in that range. By expending more chakra the range is reduced to 2.5m but will also allow Rin to read very specific medical information presented in the targets in that area - everything between broken bones and limbs, internal ruptures and the presence of toxins, diseases and other pathogens.


Evasive Maneuver
Rin is fast as it is, however to keep up with the fastest shinobi in the land especially with his primary fighting style he has developed an ability to get out of dodge when put in sticky situations up close. Speed and maneuverability significantly enhanced to get out of hitting radius, or simply to escape what he might deem as an unwinnable situation.

Hand Seals Master
Through much dedicated time, as a jounin Rin has all but mastered the art of hand seals. He is a great deal faster at weaving the tight seals, and can also perform hand seals with a singular hand if the other is somehow occupied. Unsurprisingly, this makes him slower than someone who would dedicate to speed alone, or one-handed hand seals alone, but he is faster and much more proficient than jounin who have neither. What may take a normal individual several moments to fire off a jutsu, it takes Rin approximately half the time with both hands, and what is considered a quarter of the time below average for one-handed, thus intensifying his threat levels as a ninjutsu user.

It seemed like Shigure’s assistance was not needed at all, Rin had already taken care of the two men easily while Shigure fought just one. The main mistake of Shigure’s opponent was to engage a Hyuuga in melee combat, but he clearly didn’t know anything about his style. As the young Jounin approached, Shigure stared at him with his nasty looking eyes, as the active Byakugan could look rather intimidating with the veins and all that, and he nodded at his words. ”It was easier than I thought it would be, I guess my training has paid off. You didn’t have any trouble at all, Rin-san, it’s impressive, I watched your whole fight.” he added, cracking a subtle smile, and then he watched as the Jounin threw that man overboard as well, joining his companions in their own struggle to survive, such was the life of a Shinobi. The captain, who was hiding until just now seemed a little more at ease, and Rin reassured the man that things were okay now. Shigure relaxed as well and the veins around his eyes faded away and the Byakugan returned to its dormant state. Now the vessel was safe to continue its travels, and Shigure approached Rin, who asked him about the Chuunin Exams, to which the Hyuuga energetically nodded. ”Yes, Rin-san! I want to become a Chuunin soon… I need to prove to myself that I can!” he responded. ”Also… I noticed you didn’t waste any chakra while using your jutsus, your control is impressive! Mine could do better.” he admitted, chuckling in light embarrassment. ”Any tips?” he asked in a more casual tone, trying to not make a big deal out of it, but he could barely hide the will of fire burning in his eyes. He was dead serious about becoming stronger.

Rin paused for a moment when Shigure asked him about his chakra control, and then he placed a hand to his chin in thought. Blue gaze meeting the blue sky as he thought it over, he had explained this before but he wasn't sure if the other already knew a lot about chakra control or nothing at all. As a medic shinobi, it had been quite important that he understand chakra control, control was the only thing that had kept his patients alive in the past and really most everything in Rin's life was about limitations, making sure that he carried a steady hand and mind throughout life. There were no bouts of rage or unnecessary action and emotion.

But the most fundamental and elementary point of chakra control was about just that, controlling one's pathways.

"Well, chakra is everyone's life force. Everyone has it, but whilst a civilian has only a little, we shinobi train to have a lot to perform the duties that we perform... So, in our training, there's variation there as well. Some of us are born with huge chakra pools that leak chakra everywhere, others with smaller ones, and if you have a smaller pool to borrow from, it's important to limit that usage." Rin stopped and laughed.

"Sorry, this is some sort of academy spiel, huh?" He shook his head at himself before giving a bit of direction to his response.

"Controlling chakra is about limiting the pathways through which chakra moves. When you're molding it in your body, you should be molding the absolute minimum that is required to perform the technique at its fullest, otherwise, you're wasting chakra." Which, really, wasting chakra wasn't uncommon, especially in those who did not know how to control chakra, and those with larger chakra pools were the ones who could afford to waste, but Rin could not, not as a medical shinobi.

"Next time you're training, or you can try meditating, focus really on your chakra molding."

If Shigure had any other questions, Rin would answer them, but for now, he would go silent as they seemed to enter the port and ultimately dock. Which meant Rin had to escort Shigure back to his village since their mission was now officially completed!
