[attr="class","skullbody"]As the morning began the girl awoke with excitement in her eyes for today she’d be embarking on a special mission that she handpicked herself, but rather than being something based around combat or other forms of offensive work. She choose to do something that was far more suited to her penchant for knowledge, learning from the head instructor. For today she was going to be working with the main interrogator for the village.

The individual in charge of extracting information from all of the criminals through the village, an interesting task to say the least. And while she wasn’t exactly one for torture, however if that was what needed to be done in order to get the results she wouldn’t complain and do it to the best of her ability.

Today she’d be working with him to learn several different methods in order to extract information from a prisoner. She wasn’t fully sure what she’d be doing but she was still excited either way she took the time to study a few methods on her own, such as figuring out clever ways to employ her Dojutsu much like how her father did a long time ago.

But even still there was very much to learn and the young tactician was greatly looking forward to it. And so with her notebook firmly in her pocket and her pen at the ready she was set to shadow and be the best torturer’s assistant she could be arriving at the interrogators office with excitement in her heart, not for the violence but for the opportunity.

he prison of Yukigakure was an intimidating structure. While the public-facing part of the building was above ground, the majority of it laid beneath the earth, the prisoners entombed in a wall of stone and kept from the light. The building was one of the highest security premises known to the planet, a merciless housing for the criminals within. Not much information was made known about it, because it was important that no one work out how to escape, but it was a tremendous site nonetheless.

When Jun arrived at the prison for her mission, she would be directed to the office of the head interrogator, Dai Ri. The door, creaking on its hinges, opened to a dark room. Looming in the shadows of it was a man at his desk. Not imposing in stature, but in nature, as his expression seemed grim, almost as intimidating as the building itself.

The unsettling slip of his brush against the scroll of whatever report he was writing ceased as he looked up at her. He stood, placing his report aside as he motioned for her to come closer.

"Good morning. I take it that you are to be my assistant for the day," Dai Ri greeted.

He was not an unfamiliar man. Every academy student met him at one point or another. He was brought to the academy to instruct students on how to perform genjutsu as well as how to escape it. If he recognized her, though, he did not make it obvious. He saw hundreds of students. Recalling their faces was unlikely.

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the girl arrived she recognized the man whom she had encountered he was the individual who had taught Jun one of the earliest forms of genjutsu she had ever encountered. "Dai Ri.” she remembered his name being. He seemed to be busy with a report but greeted her with a good morning asking if she was his assistant, before becoming her to come forward which she happily acquiesced "Yes Sir, Jun Muramatsa It's a pleasure to be working under you.”

As the two got acquainted she was eager to learn under him and wanted to ask him a series of question but wasn’t certain if this was the proper moment his tone was that of an intimidating presence but Jun understood that mannerisms such as his were needed for this type of job she would do her best to remain unphased despite some of her reservations. "What will be learning today, sir I was instructed to shadow you but was only given minimal information on the curriculum Lady Shuka informed me that all of my education would be at your discretion.” the girl spoke with a dutiful tone ready to listen and follow orders accordingly, it was sure to be an enlightening experience but given the circumstances she wasn't sure if she needed to do or say anything else.

For the duration of her stay she would do her best to act in a professional manner but she did have one burning question. "Do you mind if I take notes sir?” the girl would say keeping a small pen and her journal at the ready in the event that there was more information that she needed to take in.

hese young ones were always so nervous in his presence. He supposed that it boded well for his image fitting the bill for his career. If he did not strike one as intimidating and forceful, he would not make a very good interrogator, would he? The young lady asked if she would be allowed to take notes.

"Of course. Feel free. This is both mission and lesson after all. The information you learn here will be important on the field. Just don't record anything about the prison itself," he stated.

He walked past her and out of the office, wanting to move along physically while answering he other question. The halls of the Yukigakure prison were claustrophobic and maze-like. They occasionally seemed to move, cutting off and creating new patterns, which made it all the more confusing. Walking through the halls was almost dizzying. Yet Dai Ri seemed to navigate them without any trouble at all. Did he have this whole place memorized? Or did he have some other ability that made this easier for him? It was hard to tell.

"Today I will be teaching you about extracting information from a captured foe. On missions, there will be cases where you will capture a criminal and need to interrogate them about the whereabouts of one of their companions, or about their plans. This information is sometimes needed quickly in order to prevent tragedy and disaster. Being able to extract it swiftly and soundly is pivotal."

Eventually, he would stop walking outside a very sturdy-seeming door. There was a small window inside. Through it, Jun would be able to see a criminal. He looked to be just slightly older than herself.

"This one was part of a guild of thieves. We're trying to determine the location of the hideout of his remaining allies, but he is stubborn. You will help me get the information out of him."

The young man inside was mostly entirely ordinary. He seemed to have a few bruises on his arms, probably from the altercation that led to his arrest. His clothing was not especially high quality and he seemed nervous.

"Tell me what you think about the man in there. What can you discern about him?"

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the girl posed her question she’d quickly receive an answer and was then escorted out of the office she noted the way that he moved and how he acted and opted to see how that played a role in the way he treated others. She observed his mannerism as he moved about. They’d then make their way into the prison itself; the area was hard to navigate; the girl could barely keep up twists and turns and angles she could barely see coming how the head interrogator managed to do so with such ease was interesting.

Clearly he’d been at this a long time. Whilst they walked he would relay a few words of wisdom towards the girl the goal of interrogation which she would quickly pencil down information needed to be grabbed swiftly and soundly, noted. She’d dot the last i and cross her final t before responding. "Yes, sir, are the methods we use purely dependent on the situation? It's best to know multiple forms of retrieval, correct?”

Moments later they’d stop in front of a hefty metal door. She’d look over the man he seemed to be a young adult much like Jun, she was given his occupation and the goal of the interrogation to attempt and figure out where his remaining allies would be located. She nodded, "Yes Sir.”

Afterwards as they looked upon him Jun was asked to tell the interrogator what she was able to discern about him, she looked him over noting his scars and the quality of his clothing he also seemed somewhat nervous. "He looks anxious possibly from the beating he took and not be disparaging to of his circumstances but he looks like a pauper, you stated he was a thief correct?

The girl would stop and attempt to try and focus on that. "Perhaps he and his band of miscreants are possibly all from the lower rungs it could be why they’ve become thieves?" her eyes would then dart over towards his injuries.

"But judging by his bruises he didn’t go down without a fight, and if my prior thoughts are correct he could be rather easy to extract information from if we capitalize on his damaged emotional state.” the girl would state almost giving a psychological evaluation rather than a simple description.

istening to her analysis, Dai Ri kept his face impassive throughout, not letting on whether he believed she was right or wrong until she was thoroughly through with her examination and her opinion on the situation. When she had finished speaking, that was when he finally deigned to nod at her in agreement.

"I believe that all that you have gleaned is fair. A good general assessment. I would make two corrections, however," he said.

"He did not come in without a fight. That means there is a possibility he will be hostile. You need to brace yourself for an aggressive approach from the man and decide whether he needs to be met with more aggression or whether speaking to him calmly will work," he explained. "And this hostility means that he may be more defensive and less likely to divulge information. Different people respond differently to aggression and feeling trapped."

While he spoke, he opened his coat and retrieved a suite of tools. A bell, a blindfold, pliers. An interesting arrangement that had some clear if varied uses in this situation.

"Knowing multiple modes of retrieval is very important to this role. Many think of the interrogator as a torturous brute. This is not the case. You must tailor your decision-making to the individual. It makes you very good at reading people, practicing this. Of course, sometimes extracting information is a bit like literally pulling teeth...," he smiled slightly at his own joke, a brief lapse in his brooding performance. Perhaps he had a goofier side, under all the seriousness.

"Some respond to casual conversation. Some respond to incessant questioning. Some respond to genjutsu. Some respond to violence."

He offered Jun the arrangement of tools.

"Hide that in your coat and make your selection of them when needed. We are going to go into the room. You will run this interrogation and I will advise you when you struggle. Introduce yourself to the man and begin questioning."

Without giving her too much time to prepare, he opened the door and ushered her inside.

The prisoner looked up at the two of them sourly, crossing his arms.

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the girl would continue it would seem that her assertions were correct save for two parts of her theory just because he’s beaten won’t mean he’s easy to take down and also to that end, she should consider her options carefully to see how he might potentially respond. The girl would nod her head. "I see, I suppose that is true, I shouldn’t be so closed minded, nothing is ever easy and there are always other avenues to try and exploit.”

Shortly after the girl would be given some instruments of torture handed to her by the head interrogator she looked over each one coming to immediate conclusions of who she could wield each one, looking over the items briefly but pensively. "With the blindfold I could potentially use it to remove his sight, the bell would be useful if I had genjutsu that took advantage of it’s auditory nature.

I suppose I could keep ringing the instrument to drive him mad but that would also negatively effect me as well. And the pliers that’s obvious physical torture.” before heading in she’d ask one last question. "Does he have a name and his band of thieves do they have a name, are they a group with some kind of reputation something I could play off of?” the girl would ask wanting to have as much information as possible.

But she would receive nothing and simply be told to enter inside, afterwards she could see the contempt on the face of the prisoner before her he had a sour look on his face and in response she’d keep her composure and behave rather jovially "Is that anyway to greet your interrogator, You’d best adjust your attitude or this situation is going to get much worse.” she’d take a seat directly in front of him, the chair scraping against the metal floor. "Now then…tell me who are your friends?” she was coming in rather calmly but did so in an effort that almost seemed off setting the playing field and showing him that she had the power to make this excruciating for him should he fail to follow orders.

inal inquiries before entering - asking about names and potential reputations. That was good, it showed that she had an intuitive mind and was willing to apply outside information to the task at hand. That was always going to be important for a job like this.

"His name is Ritsu. We haven't been able to get a family name out of him, which means he may be protecting family from our ire. Probably clanless, siblings may be involved in the ring. They aren't famous enough yet to have any kind of call tag, though they like to target noble houses," he explained.

Out of questioning him and onto questioning Ritsu. The conversation began with a sort of level-headed sternness, Jun straddling the line between approaching calmly and approaching with a threat of intention. Dai Ri did not protest this and folded his hands behind his back, standing and watching with a grimness. He would only step in if he felt he needed to.

Ritsu seemed not outright aggressive, but at least scornful.

"Look, I don't know about you types, but do I look like some kinda rat?" He asked, frowning. He understood that this situation could get pretty rough, but to him, it seemed pretty bad already. The last thing he wanted to do was be in prison and for all his allies to also be in prison.

As the girl took her seat the young man now known as Ritsu would respond. "I dont find you to be a rat…I find you to be someone who wants to cooperate. I have no intention of harming you or your friends. I simply need to get to the bottom of our investigation.” the girl would give him a rather serious look.

"And Rest assured, I am not the one you should be worried about…it’s him.” the girl would say pointing out at Dai Ri giving him a wink, obscuring it with the turn of her head. "And if you fail to cooperate it shall be him who deals with you not I.” she’d turn back towards him. "Now then tell me who your friends are, I’m trying to help you by struggling with me you’re only making things worse for yourself.”

Her tone still harsh, heavy and very matter of fact she’s kept the items tucked away in her pocket but has a plan with her particular methods. Wanting to try and throw out a rather strong bluff in an effort to try and lure him into a false sense of security, but should he reject her offer she had ways of making him talk.

here was the employment of a rather classic tactic. The good-vs-bad technique was oft practiced in interrogation. It was good strategy because it established you as someone more trustworthy, on the side of the one being investigated and serving as a sort of protector against a more threatening force. Of course, anyone more savvy with the business like a truly hardened criminal would see it from a mile away and not fall for it, but for young thieves like this it was frequently effective.

Dai Ri was more than happy to play along with it. When Jun gave him a wink, he let a truly unsettling smile fall across his features, corners of his mouth curling into a cruel grin that almost looked like the grimace of a stiffening corpse. It was enough to make Ritsu's eyes go wide and give him a shiver.

He would look back to Jun and she would seem far more inviting than Dai Ri now.

"It's not that serious," Ritsu would grumble, reluctant. "There's just this guy who a few of my friends and I met. He pays us to help him pull off robberies and stuff. None of us have a lot of money, so we do it. We're only taking from people who already have more than us anyways."

"Robinhooding…a noble act but still it comes with its consequences, who is the individual that you all have been working for have you been working with him long? Was he how you got your start?” she’d say attempting to probe him her tone was calmer but still focused. "A thief has to be connected after all. And clearly your friends are, I appreciate the added information but you still didn’t answer my question.” she’d say placing a bit of venom in her words.

She would allow him to continue not adding in any extra threat since she knew that her subtle manipulation was seemingly working. "So by all means please continue, but I’m adding a strike for that you get two more.” she’d raise her fingers gesturing the number two. "You'd best hope we don't get down to 0.” the girl would state.

"I trust you won’t let it come to that.” the girl felt as thought she had control of the situation to a degree and would hold the prisoners fate within her subtle grasp playing herself off as the softer of the two keeping their roles and the threat of a much worse fate in her back pocket if he panicked then perhaps he’d give her more of what she wants.

ntroducing a strike system. What an interesting method. It wasn't necessarily one that Dai Ri would employ, but it had a sort of youthful charm to it. The target she was speaking to was relatively young, so it seemed to do what was intended in terms of his reaction anyways. He looked wary, uncomfortable, eyeing her fingers with some consideration. Would it be worth it to find out what she would do if he let the count get down to zero? Or, worse, what the scary man looming behind her would do?

Yeah, he hesitantly decided that he would rather not, even if he would prefer not to be a rat. He worked his jaw for a moment, considering his words carefully.

"I don't know his name," Ritsu ultimately confessed. "We call him Skua. Like the seabird. He's pretty short and he lives portside, in the neighborhood near the gate by the docks. I think his dad is a merchant, but I've never actually asked him, because we're strictly... business, y'know? But I imagine his dad has to have money if he can afford to pay us for these thieving jobs." So a merchant kid got greedy and went wild. Not the first time that's ever happened.

Knowing that he was part of a specific family and narrowing down his location to one area would make it a lot easier to identify this seabird thief, but was there any more information Jun wanted to try to pry out of Ritsu?

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the boy continued to divulge information he would state that he didn’t know his name but did know information about the man himself stating that he was called "Skua.” and that he seemingly had a rather wealthy father all interesting tidbits of information but they were still loose scraps still it seemed like he gave up all he knew and admittedly it was better than nothing, but perhaps now it was time for a little added factor of intimidation to make certain that he had given her all she needed.

"And is that all you know, no names of his family, no other associates…” she’d wait to take in his answer, if that truly was all the girl would make one final remark. "Another interrogator will be coming in at sometime today in order to corroborate your story and relay the details of it back to me. If these two things do not match up you will be punished severely.” the girl would state rather plainly giving him a flat business like look before preparing herself to stand up and head out the door turning away from him.

"So before I depart is there anymore information that you wish to relay to me, because if you are caught withholding information your next meeting will not be in an interrogation room it will be a torture chamber and if you think he's bad it pales in comparison to what they will do to you." She’d add one last hint of venom to her words, awaiting his response hoping that her bait would yield more information if not she’d simply leave hopefully she didn’t scare him too badly but fear is a strong tactic and here’s hoping she’d left her mark.

Sweating now, truly anxious, the young man was running through thoughts in his head, trying to determine if he knew anything else about the situation that could be useful. Anything at all. After some contemplation, he said,

"I know the location where we usually meet. There's an old warehouse two buildings down from the portside gate. When we're going to do our thief jobs, we organize there first. But that's really all I've got."

With that final piece of information added, it seemed like Dai Ri was satisfied. He silently left his place and went to the door, holding it open for Jun to follow him out of the room.

If she followed, once outside he would close the door behind her and lock it. Then, a few steps down the hall and away from door, he would tell her,

"That was a good display in there. You extracted a decent amount of information without having to immediately resort to grim tactics. Yet you wielded the threat of them very effectively. Is there anything you feel you could have done better?"

With that the two would meander down a hallway and begin having a conversation with the girl beings asked what she felt she could’ve done better.

The girl would place a hand along her chin and think for a brief moment. "I’m honestly not all that sure sir…I will say most of what I was attempting was based on plans I wasn’t sure were going to work but if they had then the gambit would’ve surely produced the best outcome.” the girl would note how he was acting and behaving, his mannerism and individual actions.

"I was under the assumption that during the interrogation if I could control the situation I would be able to extract the information necessary switching back and forth between styles." as she spoke she reflected once more on her own actions and the way that she was carrying out her duty. "But I needed to be careful if I was too reckless I could've ended up either pushing too far or worse losing my credibility there's a fine line to walk isn't there sir?" she'd say looking up at the interrogator with a pensive look of wonder, and shortly there after the girl would remove the items she was given. "I believe these are yours sir.” she’d say handing them back to him. "Is there more that I'll be learning or is that all for today?"
