Many described calm with slow, methodical pacing. A slow breath. A gentle occasional breeze. A few ambient noises. Konsho found calm unfitting of such moments. Those moments had too much going on for it to be true calm. As long as life continued, there was no true calm. Rather, these were moments of joy. About two hours ago, Konsho was experiencing such a moment, his now one year old brother having climbed onto his lap as the former attempted to meditate again. Even now, having officially failed sage training, Konsho still kept up his practice of meditation. It was freeing. A weight lifted. A good way to center one's self without assistance.

Of course, assisted was equally good. Konsho had spent about an hour afterwards in his room with Akaryu, letting the child fidget with some of the safer objects he had in his room. Not a bit of blood was share between these two, but it was factual that him and Konsho were brothers. The boy would probably not be a brother to Daruma, but Konsho had learned his two families didn't necessarily need to intermix. This boy was, and hopefully always would be, his younger brother. It was a quiet and soft bond, but one he treasured.

Then came moments of true calm. For Konsho, those usually only came in blissful unconsciousness. True nothingness. No thoughts. No sounds. Nothing. Just a black quiet void. Konsho, at the moment, was enjoying such a moment. Unbenounced to him, so was Akaryu, whom had curled into his older brother's torso as they two laid into each other. Konsho looked so peaceful in these moments. Even the small traces of bags under his eyes seemed to fade when he slept, a bliss that came from those few hours where he didn't need to worry about things anymore. All the better when there was someone to share that time with.

Ryu would watch this display from a distance, but began to at least understand where the habit had come from in terms of his son having adapted such a terrible position when it came to meditation. Or the concept behind it. In the end, it seemed that the boy was the one responsible for it in a small way. As he narrowed his eyes, he'd allow his presence to remain hidden for the moment, keeping to his thoughts.

Konsho was...for better or for worse, now as much a part of his village as his family. This meant that in a sense, he was responsible for him in a small part. It sickened him to a point to imagine it, but then again, it wouldn't be the first stray he took in. Though the fact that he was a failure as an apprentice and that he was content enough in it to sleep vexed him.

Despite him taking in moments of peace, this was unheard of for a shinobi, especially one in their youth. They would at least strive for some semblance of purpose. For direction in some way...

That was about to change...whether the boy wanted it or not...

Coughing into his hand, he'd draw the attention of the youth, his finger beckoning him to follow after placing Akaryu in his crib.

As he waited for the task to be done, he'd narrow his eyes before looking at him.

"What is your plan for your future boy?"

Even in a protected home, one does not sleep heavily in the jungle. The special presence Ryu had was the first thing Konsho sensed, causing a controlled but startled awakening. Akaryu was not disturbed, likely used to his father's presence. The cough merely served to show the disturbance had been purposeful. Well… there went peace.

Konsho would gently lift his sibling and carry the child to his room. Once he was safely in the crib, Konsho would turn to face his.. father? Kage? Scary guy? Scary guy.

The question proposed to him was an… interesting one. One with an answer that Konsho was sure Ryu wouldn't like. "Short term: help those I care for. Be there for the family. Help the village when I can." … where did that one come from? He was helping the village. Sure it was with paperwork, but that still needed to be done. Still… it wasn't the kind of job you could see the results. He was zoning out again. "Long term… I try to avoid. Sets expectations. Future us too unpredictable. I'll handle each thing week by week."

As Konsho explained his intentions to the man, Ryu would continue to look at him with cold indifferent. Low expectations, living life within the moment and taking things as they came to him. He would keep himself ready to adapt, but not consider the conditions in which to do so. He would not prepare, he would continue to aid the family....family...and support the village where he could.

Which in truth, wasn't much of a claim considering where he was placed at he moment...he was a glorified secretary...

Taking in these words, Ryu would nod before then gesturing his hand to the side as he continued to move forward down the hall.

"I see...so you wish to be a whore...."

In stopping short of a door, he'd open it to display a collection of females that appeared to be getting ready. Their attire varied from partial attire, to full on outfits that were designed for servitude. They were hired to take care of things around the manor, but many of them were also out within the streets to perform other acts to gain favor for themselves.

"I at one time visited this area much....enjoying the service that they provided as it was what they enjoyed. They gained value from my presence and I rewarded them with that they wished...A moment of attention...they continue this action despite being free to choose, only to see the value of what they gain within the day....they hold no ambition for change, only in what they have upon them now...even their clothing is hardly what one would consider proof of success...as it is tainted by their daily exploits and so will it be for the next day..."

As he looked upon the females and men within the living quarters, he'd then gesture toward it with a serious expression as he'd wait for Konsho to the decide.

"You seem to have your path set...I will leave you to do what you wish...the one in the back..Jensin...is your superior...you will report your success and pay him half of your wages to remain here. You will have little wealth...you will find your customers to be demanding and your mouth will constantly be dry from the amount of pressure placed upon your throat...if this the life you wish to follow, step forward and pursue it to your hearts desire...."

That said...Ryu would continue down the hall to leave Konsho a moment to process the option that was left to him, stopping short before speaking once more.

"You may also wish to shallow...I hear that most customers prefer to see less...unless you wish to hear my alternative to your fate...this is your new job...and this your family..."

Even in new surroundings there were constants, Konsho knew this. But one small part of him had hoped Ryu was only the way he was when outside of his home. Turns out he was as distant and cold as ever. Seems it was his nature. It was also within his nature to, for some reason, have even less tact than Konsho.

Oh… a lecture… that still did not make any of this okay. Nor did it make anything that followed okay. In fact the longer Ryu talked, the worse it got. Thus the worse Konsho got. Then came the straw.

"Were you an orphan or something?" Konsho would reply, his brain too disgusted to bother thinking about what he was saying. "That's the only way I can see anyone thinking this counts as family." Konsho would continue to let his thoughts loose, not caring how it sounded. "If this is all it takes to be considered family for you, I'm definitely worried about mom, and especially concerned for my brother."

A nerve appeared to have been struck, which was indeed part of the point of this exercise in building confidence...or seeing if there was a lack at all that needed concern. Of course, while it seemed as if Konsho was more than willing to defend the honor of his adopted mother and brother, he seemed more or less vague on himself. If anything, he danced around the claim of this being considered a family to him and seemed worried of whether or not his new family was safe.

"I take it back...you're a bastard...congrats on they improvement of status..."

Turning back to him, he'd begin his approach, slow and confident. His actions, his movement, clearly appearing as though he were ready to strike at any moment.

"A bastard who thinks himself capable of more than he does...Tell me bastard..."

Stopping short, he'd hold his hands behind his back as he stared the boy down.

"If I were a threat to your mother...your brother....what would you possibly do in your condition now? You are a failure of an apprentice, a pencil pusher for a foreign lord and all the more within a land that is not your own...You have no influence, your status is no more than a generous compensation that I provided and you lack any skill that could remotely give me any pause...so what will you do?"

Ryu would continue to poke at Konsho.

"Come now...you had such bravado before...speak more of your concerns...in fact...go forth and tell your mother what I have shown you...and said of what you are....believe me there are those within this village that will treat you as though you were a prince, yet lie to your face in the process of stabbing you with a blade for even being here..."

With the smirk on his face twisting his expression, he'd then allow it to fade as he shook his head.

"You will never get any sort of charity from me...and I will lie when I speak to you of what you are worth in my eyes...or what I see when I look upon those within that room. They are indeed a family...the only difference between them and you...is opportunity and potential Midori sees that in you...only time will tell if you see it within yourself...and attempt to do better...or do you think so low of your ability that you wish to make her wrong?"

Taki was less infuriating than this man. It was like was purposefully trying to-.... ah. Konsho's stance would remain strong and steadfast, but softened as if beginning to understand. Ryu was attempting to light a fire under Konsho to get him to see what was needed. To see that he lacked the means to do anything about his situation. This was all a needlessly complex test in the form of a social battle, Konsho's weakest area. The weapons Ryu had brought were numerous; harsh words, intense actions, and of course his own reputation. Konsho couldn't use the former of those in their little verbal duel. Ryu's reputation was equivalent to his strength, for Konsho to try and do the same would the same as wielding a blade to heavy for him. He lacked the leverage to use it properly. He was at a gargantuan disadvantage here, to say the least.

Regardless, even as Ryu approached him, Konsho would not retreat. No inch was given. Even if that meant he had to look up at the man to keep eye contact, one of Konsho's weak points purposefully being defied. He lacked the reputation of his better in this situation- in fact he lacked it in most situations- so the only thing he could do to make up for it was to match his words with strong actions.

Ryu spoke almost exclusively in truth with his next verbal assault. But regardless Konsho did not allow collapse. Something about the way Ryu spoke to him touch a source of strength that only Taki had been able to locate before. No fire had been started, not one that wasn't already there. Rather had had merely added more fuel with his words. Once Ryu had finished his speech, Konsho would stare at the man with a more determined expression than any he had worn in his life. "I will prove her right. You bet whatever you value on that. But I am no bastard. I am Chizawa Konsho... and I was this before you." While he couldn't use harsh words, genuine ones would make up for those. His history backed those.

Ryu would remain where he stood, directly before the youth as he looked down at him. He was attempting to hit at something, and it seemed like he had mustard some fire within the boy. Or at least strengthened it. It was not a lie to say that people would treat him differently, only to be ready to kill him once he lowered his guard. It was just it was, and they were trained to seek out weak points. It was how the strong towered over the weak. It did not mean that the weak could not be strong themselves, only that there would be few to give hand outs. A hard lesson...but one that had to be told to Konsho sooner rather than for him to need concern himself over his safety.

But as the boy spoke his name, and asserted himself, the man would remain where he was, looking down, as though seeing something beyond him. His stare remained before he then closed his eyes.

"Hmph...we will see....Konsho Chizawa...."

He noted the boy's frame and could see the slight shiver that had come upon him before he had spoke. He had reserve, that was at least something. He had spirit, which was more than some could admit to truly. Power was what he lacked, but he had a reason now to try harder. Which was the point, for him to say it and commit to it. Whether he did would be up to him...

Though he was hardly a betting man, he would certainly have won such a wager if it were truly something put to the test...because the thing he valued most...
