"It hardly seems like you have come to any sort of decision in what you wish to do...so...why ask me now to do this"It had only been a few days ago, but the memory of her meeting within the Compound of the Takehara, standing before the elders of their small clan as they seemed to be directing her or attempting to, place her with a task to which they wanted her personal opinion upon. At times, while these meetings would usually begin and end with a circular conversation that would not cease to end without debate, they did allow for the mild satisfaction of at least one member addressing her and asking for her to take more responsibilities in furthering the Clan's endeavors in a more politically influential role....
If only they knew what she did....
What they saw before them was a woman, still younger than them by all grace and mercy of the gods, whom was recognized for her service, washed out and eventually took on the role as the Head medic within the village. It was a far better fate than the last person who took on the ideals of Takehara Yomi, to which, still was held up as a standard for many within their clan, and to others, the reason why their clan preferred the role of anything that didn't require a blade sharper than their tongues.
It made them a chatty bunch...and often the sight for some great amusement now and then.
Though the situation seemed to be that of one of their younger members, Takehara Momo.
The monster....or freak as most liked to consider the girl...
Her parentage consisted of marriage to a woman with a condition that was so rare, it was of no shock that many in her family had managed to keep it hidden for so long. But, of course, for the good of the clan, her father had married her as it was willed by the elders. Of course, as most stories went, the two fell in love and their union was more than just a bargain.
It was only a shame that things such as fairy tale endings and the journey of two people overcoming hardships rarely ever went the way they wanted....
The history spoke for itself...and it made it clear that there was still much more in store for the two upon becoming parents.
Momo had been a plump little thing...and her screams had made Aiya remember the very reason why she never had children of her own....not for any lack of trying on part of her lovers. But the joy of the parents in seeing their young one seemed to shift to horror upon realizing the truth of their baby.
It was indeed...an affliction of genetics gone wrong...but then...most information when it came to the Onigo Clan was lost to time, and perhaps it was believed that such a curse would no longer plague their world. Still, it honestly would have helped had she known more...or perhaps...if she had said something....
Aiya had been there through the entire process...but...as a medic...she was sworn to secrecy...and it was the one thing she managed to keep that she was indeed ashamed of to a certain degree...in truth...it was likely that reason that the woman had been labeled a monster herself in the end...and paid a price that had been meant for her daughter.
It didn't take a true shinobi to look into details..and in fact...it honestly could have easily gone either way...but who would many rather have take the blame for murder?
Naturally, the incident and execution of Momo's mother had been so heavy that the clan was once again placed in a barely glamorous light, some even hoping that her father would simply do away with the child. Of course, when gifted within a clan of silver tongues, the one with the best reasoning often prevailed. Not to mention the most that influence, which he had at time....
So came lies, the cover ups, and most of it in attempts to try and save face for their clan. Though there was no hiding the one thing that made the girl different, and Aiya had no prescription to cure it...she had tried...more than once...having only drugs now to help to ease the savage nature that lingered within.
Lack of motivation....that was what the Clan believed was the reason for her lack luster performance in her shinobi career, and her display at the exams only gave evidence to the line of excuses.
She remembered them even placing the blame on her for that stunt, to which, she had no defense...or rather not one that would leave with Momo's future in tact with what remained of it.
In the end, a part of Aiya did feel responsible...and she had been there for the most part...
So them coming to her now to ask her to do something else felt rather like a last resort of what she had already been doing.
But then...whom else could they ask?
-----------------------------
The meeting ended briefly after that, and Aiya had simply been observing the child, mostly from afar...Though as the time came for their usual appointment, Aiya would wait at her usual place for their meetings, her hand holding an umbrella within it as she came outside. Her eyes would linger to the sky, seeing the rain drops fall along the side of the building, eyes closing as she took them upon her face before then opening her gaze to view the road.
