Into The Forest

Exiting the Inn she had been staying at during her time in Hi-no-Kuni Azarea strolled through the small town. Weaving her way through narrow alleys and down cobblestone roads that slowly turned from rock, to gravel, to dirt, to grass as she eventually reached where the town ended and nature began. The woman breathing in the familiar loamy scent of petrichor after a rain that clung to the fire country forests with their routine pleasant summer showers. Their rains steady and sometimes heavy, but nothing like the raging flashes of lighting and unending downpours of Kaminari-no-Kuni that made one question if the sky itself was crashing down on you.

In it's place though was the unending din of the countries cicada's, the screaming thriving beating heart that was the forests that surrounded Konohagakure no Sato. For while Kaminari-no-Kuni was vibrant and varied very places other then perhaps waterfall had trees so large and woods so thick that one could get lost within them forever and never return. Thankfully Azareas feet and hive did not betray her as she stepped into the forest. Moving past the brush and branches and thick undergrowth until the trees inevitably parted and sun spilled through the choking leaves to give way to a small clearing. Just big enough for her purposes.

I Go,

Stepping out slowly into the center of the field Azarea soaked in the scenery around her. Her hive humming low and soft within her. A lullaby, a song, a symphony only the ex-Aburame could hear. Her feet bringing her to a stop as she allowed herself for a moment to fall backwards cushioned into the tall grass and soft downy moss as she allowed herself a moment of respite. Breathing in the scent of rich damp earth and feeling the sun beating down on her skin after too many years cooped up intermittently in a hospital room. Despite the complications it felt good to be out and active and accomplishing something.

And the jutsu she intended to teach herself today was not a difficult one. In fact she had seen it many times, but herself and her hive had been to sick to mimic it in the past. Now though. Well she could think of more then a few ways to put the Bōsui no Jin [Spindle Formation] jutsu to excellent use with the upcoming exams. Especially if she was to be Kumo's sole representative. The prospect as exciting as it was intimidating. If only because if she failed badly at her age well... that would be embarrassing. She needed to at least make a respectable showing of herself. Kicking back up to her feet Azarea paused and stretched getting ready to practice.

To Lose

The trick with Bōsui no Jin [Spindle Formation] was not only managing to expel the right amount of chakra to feed and super charge the Kikaichu, but also in getting the high speed spiraling motion of the attack correct. Failure with the second part could cost her some of her hive and while yes she could grow more... Azarea was very fond of her bugs. Harm done to them through her own failure and ignorance stung worst of all. After all she quite literally owed her life to them for without them taking the brunt of the poison that had warped them both she might never have been able to return to being a shinobi. They both had survived and so she owed it to them to take basic caution. Such as not practicing the jutsu in the middle of a crowded forest where they could crash into things and instead in the small open field.

Closing her eyes and taking a slow deep breath in Azarea held it as she tugged at her reserves threading chakra through her coils and slowly expelling it with her exhaled breath. Her Kikiachu swarming around her as they supped on her chakra laden breath like hummingbirds at nectar. As Azarea slowly cracked her eyes open observing her hive. They seemed happy, but not... super charged. Too little chakra then. She would need more and then need to see how much she could get away with not using if she was to maintain the technique for long periods of time. Most shinobi combat was over in moments, but when it wasn't the one who kept the best track on their reserves usually emerged victorious.

My Mind

"Greedy little things aren't you?" Azarea murmured eyeing her Kikiachu as they swarmed around her as she concentrated on feeding a bit more chakra to them. The hive beginning to buzz excitedly. They certainly seemed a bit more charged, but not enough for what the jutsu would need and she'd have to continue feeding them charkra to ensure the upkeep. "You still need more?" The woman groaned, but for all her exasperated tone her voice was invariably fond. Adjusting the output once more finally got a reaction as her bugs began to dart and buzz at highspeed. The sound of their wings reaching an almost high pitched whine as they swirled around her in excitement.

"Well the spinning is a start We do need to go in circles of a sort." She muses concentrating on trying to keep up the steady flow to feed her swarms. As the woman worked on mentally directing her bugs. Urging them to fly forward like a spinning top or drill. A few of the insects getting the idea of what she wanted, but not all as they tried to parse through the images and commands their host was giving to them. As Azarea tried to figure out a way to demonstrate what she needed from them in a way they might understand.

Spying a tree sprout on the ground with a straight stalk Azarea bent and plucked it from the ground. Tugging off any leaves save the two large ones on the top she held it between the palms of her hands and turned to stare at her swarming Kikiachu. "Watch." She orders giving them a firm glare before she spins the twig between her palms launching it into the air like one of those flying toy tops. "This is what I need you to do." Azarea explains voice firm as she catches the twig. Repeating the motion two or three more times until her bugs seem to understand. A few of them slowly spinning in formation up into the air.

"All right, but I need you to do that forward. Not just up." She tries to explain getting more confused buzzing, but as she sends them the mental image of the twig spinning forward, but sideways it seems to click into their little bug brains. Azarea practically having to hold them back as they spin forward their formation a spiral, but also currently a chaotic mess when she needed need columns to stream line the swarm and make them faster and harder to hit. "Ok you're getting closer." She mutters sweat beading on her forehead from sustaining the chakra cost to keep them functioning at such high speeds. At least her control and coils had to be growing with the rate she had been practicing.

My Soul

"Form together tighter now. We need a spiral. Slow is fast." Azarea mutters as much to her swarm as herself as she watches them with narrowed scarlet eyes observing their movments as she mentally nudges the bugs into tighter loops and closers twirls. Until the swarm finally resembled a drill. Then drawing her handback fingers extended in a jab she rams her arm forward. Her Kikiachi screaming across the field so fast it takes all her will to direct them up and away from the trees at the last minute so as to not crash.

Grinning bright and toothy the Kumo shinobi laughs, a full throated, and true laugh her joy spilling past her lips as she observes her swarm and directs them in another fast devastating strike to the other side of the field. Taking note of how her insects spun and twirled piercing the air around them at high speed. She'd need to find some way to reinforce them so she didn't risk losing any of her bugs from an errant tree branch or a piece of enemy armor however. Mentally noting such a need down as the next thing on her list. Her mind already turning over a promising jutsu to combine with this technique.

As most Jounin find the jutsu to be challenging to keep up with, but not downright dangerous in it's own. Instead the jutsu has it's real glory when used in conjunction with another jutsu, such as adopting the formation to allow the insects to quickly reach their destination unharmed before executing a much more dangerous jutsu.

When used along with another jutsu the Spindle Formation ups their letter rank by one rank. However, as the bugs are sped up they are prone to dying upon impact with any hard surfaces. This causes enough bugs used in said jutsu to die and in turn the user must use bugs within themselves to utilize in any jutsu after instead of the remnants of the previous jutsu.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

"Let's try taking it from the top here in a second." Azarea murmured releasing the jutsu as her Kikiachu flocked back towards her. The red head settling down onto the ground as she pulls out her canteen taking a few slow sips of water. Each day she was getting winded less and less. Her abilities weren't yet ideal, but it was satisfying to see the progress being made and how her efforts for contributing towards what would hopefully be inevitable success. If she made chuunin after all, made herself more essential to Kumo, she would be safer. More importantly she wanted to see Kumo flourish and grow beyond what it was now to what it could be.

"We need to do our best to place in the top five." She murmurs staring up at the blue blue sky. If she were to fail to place then there was a decent chance that her F... no. The Hatake. Might lose interest in her. She's not sure if that's a bad thing or not yet, but she knows that if she were to return to Kumo a failure as it's sole representative among the competitors to foreign lands then she wouldn't be able to look her new Kage in the eyes. Even less call her 'Ma'am' as she deserved. Failure in this really just wasn't an option she could stomach. Which meant she'd need to be stronger and more diligent then the other competitors by half.

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Sitting up once more Azarea sighed brushing a few bits of grass and bugs from her person. Some of them her bugs, some of them not, as she stood up and stretched once more. Taking one last sip of her drink she stashed her canteen away and shook out her fingers. Closing her eyes as she tried to remember the feel of thr amount of chakra she utilized to super charge her Kikaichu. She just need to grow fast enough at performing the jutsu that speed was no longer a concern. It takes her a moment longer to find the right amount again then she would like, but concentrating on the feel she expels the steady stream of chakra with her next breath. Her Kikaichu once more vibrating with chakra and speed as she corrals them into a drill like formation and lashes forward with them with a wave of her hand to indicate their path. The less need for handseals speeding along the process and making up for the time she'd lost concentrating.

"Closer. We're getting closer." Azarea murmured dropping the jutsu once more. Before this time repeating the amount of chakra more quickly though in her rush she was slow to command her Kikiachu to form into the drill like spiral losing time on such maneuvers instead this time around.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

Deciding to try something different Azarea commands her Kikaichi to begin moving into the drill like formation even as she pools her chakra expelling it to hypercharge her hive. The insects buzzing in delight and this time as she goes through the steps the jutsu comes together in one smooth streamlined process. Azarea commanding her bugs this way and that as they stab and slash at a wave of her hand as though she were a samurai maneuvering a naginata. To see her hive moving in such clean choreography satisfying beyond words to the woman as she grins uncaring for how her pointed teeth were on display as she laughs once more for the joy of it.

"You know we might just pull this off yet. If we can get what we need mastered and learned in time for the exams perhaps we can give Iwa an unexpected show. It would be... thrilling wouldn't it to be at the top for once in our life? Instead of always clawing out what we can at the bottom of the food chain. With time and patience... we'll be the one to be feared." She murmured and the thought of such freedom, of being a shinobi to be wary of was a thought she hadn't allowed herself to contemplate since she'd had the poison forced down her throat in the Hokage's office.

I took the one less traveled by,

Running through the jutsu one last time Azarea was beginning to feel the tax on her chakra reserves. The woman take a few more jabs at the air before nodding in contentment and allowing the technique to drop. Her Kikaichu would certainly need some more protection, but at least in terms of speed and force they would have an additional edge against opponents. Allowing them to more easily keep up with speedy chuunin and taijutsu or bukijutsu users which was the best Azarea could ask for. Though she would need to take caution to eliminate her opponents ability to outspeed her or close in on her as quickly as possible as well, but all these things took time and practice.

Thankfully while the exams loomed there was still time yet and she had the diligence to put her skills and the techniques she wanted to hone into active practice. "We should head back. Unlike you little chakra gluttons I am starving." Azarea bemoaned holding out her arms as her Kikiachu alighted upon them. Most sated and happy returning to the hive while a dew lingered on her jacket and shoulders like little glinting balls of lint. The woman unable to entire stop herself from cooing at them softly always so fond of her partners.

Azarea slowly meandered her way back through the woods towards the small village and Inn she was staying at. The woman taking the time to enjoy the forest around her as the sun had begun to slowly dip below the horizon and with its growing absence the forest was gradually coming alive with the hum of insects and cry of night time birds. In the distance like willowhisps firelflies danced between the trees their lights coaxing and were this home perhaps Azarea might follow them and submit herself to the humbleness of being known by the forest. To allow herself to venture deeper and understand the smallness of her existence in the vat scheme of things.

But time was precious and work was pletiful so with one last longing sigh Azarea ventures back amongst the populace. Wandering back through the alleys and roads towards the Moyashi Inn and hopefully a long hot bath, a delicious meal, and a good nights rest should luck favor her. It rarely did of course, but a woman could hope. Humming lightly to herself, her Kikiachu buzzing along just below the range of most men's hearing the woman cleaned her feet, pulled back the sliding doors, and entered the Inn once more. Grateful and happy that the owners seemed willing to tolerate her presence so long as she paid well and Azarea was always one to pay her debts.
