[Jun Etsuko]

Etsuko wasn't all that enthralled with the aspect of putting down bandits. She understood the importance of this mission, at least that there was some worldly concern with the big tree's health. It was rather a magnificent sight to see, but she didn't totally comprehend it's actual value. Here it was acting as a home for the enemy, at least that's how she choose to label them. It was easier to end a life when she treated it as something foreign to it. A weapon fulfilled it's purpose without too much question, a thought process she was still struggling to fully break.

That aside this wasn't her mission alone, she'd been tasked with a genin. The jounin had a vastly greater interest in seeing what this child of Takigakure could do. She'd never formally worked with the shinobi, but she'd heard that she saw him more than once. He had a really nice spear or something, she'd not understand the laugh that came with such information. However she was a fan of bukijutsu, so this could be an opportunity to scalp a shinobi into her care. Her team was more or less scattered between certain changes in her students ranks or interests. Maybe they didn't fully trust her to be the sole trainer of any student.

Etsuko waited outside the village for her partner, as soon as they'd arrive she'd like to get moving. As curious in the abilities of this genin Etsuko had been, her curiosity only acted to add intrigue and curiosity. There was very little the woman looked forward to, as she lived a life of both solidarity and complete dependence. A prisoner of her perceived being and her actual living situations, the necessity of her role, but the disinterest in it as anything other than a matter of life.

Nari was trying to pound out the missions. Training would only get him so far when it came to improving his skill, but that was on (mostly_) immobile targets. He needed to get out and test his abilities on real people, in real situations. So when the opportunity to leave the village to go take care of some bandits who were desecrating the Great Tree, the genin jumped at the chance.

It was even cooler that he would be in the company of a jounin. He’d been sorely lacking in the jounin sensei department and was desperate for some tutelage. Not that he knew anything about Etsuko Jun. She hadn’t been assigned as his sensei when he got out of the academy and since then he’d basically been jumping from teacher to teacher, but never landing with her. So he was excited to see what he could learn from her.

He had gathered up his gear, made sure Hisuiyuri was in tip top shape, and left his house to meet up with Etsuko-san on the outskirts of the village.

She was the only one out there, not counting the occasional guard that made a round, so Nari called out to her with a wave. He jogged over to the taller woman. "Hiya there," he said cheerfully. "ready to set out?"

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

[Jun Etsuko]

The jounin was a paranoid sort of person, so she'd be quick to notice herself 'spotted'. Someone's attention focused and they'd carry a spear? This would be the genin, Fukase Narihira, at least that was the easy assumption. A thought made true by the gesture of them waving to her. Despite noticing him, she'd kept him only on the peripheral of her vision. Her head now turning to him, as she'd give a very dead pan look up and down the male quickly.

Her hand raising in reply she'd let out a loud, but low toned. "Yo!" She'd not have the hype or energy of her student, especially not the enthusiasm displayed. Instead her look was blank and almost akin to someone lost. "Of course." She'd add on as he got closer and she wouldn't need to raise her volume. Her hand grasping the edge of her weighted coats collar, as she'd discretely open up her coat to show off the katana at her side. As though this genin would need assurance that the villages Jinchuuriki needed to be armed.

Even the jounin herself knew she was ultimately the weapon, but to her the show of arms was simply a standard wordless gesture to show preparation. She lived by actions speaking louder than words, she also hadn't the most friends or social interactions outside of orders and the confines of her own prisoner Matatabi. Similarly upon letting her coat collar go and letting the weighted article ridgely close back over her, she'd immediately wave the genin to follow her. She knew the path they'd need to go, so she'd set off in it.

"You seem eager, am I correct?" Etsuko would without redirecting her head ask, her tone of voice was firm, but she spoke with a genuine interest. She just seemed to be a bit rushed, but alas this was just the jounin's pace. She was all about speed when it came to her personal proficiency.

She definitely didn’t have the same level of enthusiasm for this mission that he did, Nari observed. But she returned his greeting and seemed to try and match his tone. Albeit unsuccessfully. Didn’t dampen his enthusiasm any.

His grin grew even wider when he saw the sword at Etsuko’s hip. She was a fellow weapon user, which just made her even more awesome in Nari’s book. He definitely was going to watch her closely and see if he could get and cool new tips or tricks from her style.

As the two ninja took off into the forest towards their destination by the Great Tree he couldn’t help but think that this was going to be an awesome mission. He was beyond excited and it obviously showed.

He gave a sheepish shrug at Etsuko’s comment, putting on some extra speed so he could keep up with her fast pace. "That obvious, huh?" he said. "Yeah, I’ve been wanting to get out of the Village for a little while."

Being bored was not a good thing for Nari. It especially was not good for the civilians of Takigakure because they were usually the targets of his attempts at alleviating his boredom. He had made many people irritated with his latest wave of pranks.

Etsuko didn't know what to expect, but the answer given wasn't her expectation. She wasn't the type to read between the lines either, so she'd take the boys words quite literally. It'd be a momentary thought, her brow pinching in the slightest scorn. As though wronged momentarily or confused to a momentary state of frustration. "Where we're going really isn't that much different from the village." The jounin would retort disheartened she'd have to break the news to this genin, but there'd be no significant change in scenery. Perhaps they'd never seen the great tree up close before, it could be quite the site, but it size seemed dwarfed by the jinchuuriki's point of view.

She'd hoped the genin was interested to go on this mission to test their bukijutsu skill, as well as to possibly prove the merit of the spear. It was quite the elegant and well crafted looking weapon, it at least seemed to the jounin like something of quality. The two-tails host really hoped she hadn't been partnered with some rich noble she didn't know. She wanted to see the potential of an up and coming spear user, it might inspire her next choice of weapon. However there'd be no inspiration if he just hid behind the shine of his expensive object. No price value would guarantee it's protection.

"Impressive weapon..." A phrase spoken in passing with just enough volume to be clearly heard. Added shortly after the jounin would ask. "What do you have to say about it and what does it say about you?" An odd question or at least phrasing to it. The woman whose hair naturally stood in cat ears wasn't by any standard a normal individual. Her list of oddities was only trumped by the list of stories fellow shinobi spoke of her accomplishments. Granted she was by no means seen the strongest or the most impactful in the world. She was however a weapon and a well versed one at that.

Keeping up with the older woman, Nari gave a shrug. Even though they were going somewhere pretty similar to the village, at least it wasn't the village. Or the fake village. And that’s what was important to Narihira. It was the principle of being outside the boundaries that he technically wasn’t allowed to pass that made him excited rather than the destination.

The two moved on in silence for a bit longer, until Etsuko broke the quiet with a compliment and a question about his spear. Nari glanced back at the green spear and his grin turned softer, fonder.

"It's called Hisuiyuri," he said, refocusing his attention on the path ahead of him. "We're partners. I wouldn't be able to fight without it. It's a part of me as much as I am a part of it."

That wasn't even hyperbole. The way Hisuiyuri had been forged had intertwined his very being into the weapon, giving it consciousness. If anything happened to either one of them, the other would cease to exist. He didn’t mention that part though, it wasn’t something that was supposed to be known to outsiders.

"What about your weapons? Do they have meaning for you?" Etsuko was hard to converse with, he couldn't get a read on her. He could ask about the two-tailed elephant in the room, but Nari didn't feel like that was an appropriate conversation for him to shove his nose into. Weapons were much more his speed.

Again the kunoichi would be astonished at how unexpected the shinobi's reply to her. A name was given to the weapon, it could be pretentious, but there wasn't some long dialogue on it's origin. It wasn't passed down from this person to that, it wasn't this specific emerald cut and it clearly was in a good condition. No, it was his partner, a phrase with many meanings that Etsuko took mostly in a basic fashion. However the explanation it was a part of him and he was a part of it. The phrase almost sent a chill down the fiery kunoichi's spine.

She'd look away a hand over her heart, as she'd think of Matatabi for a second. Of course a normal conversation wasn't one way, so he'd return the question to her. However she'd seem a bit unaware of what to say, she'd herself been the weapon of Takigakure. To them though, wasn't Matatabi the weapon? Maybe the battery to her, but the rest of the gear on her. She'd look over her cloaked form with a bit of confusion, it was nothing like the cloak that could be considered her actual weapon. It didn't contain anything close to as impressive as her.

"Uh... I think, I'm the only one with one of these,..." She'd open her cloak to reveal and highlight the homing blade on her hip, but then she'd reach over and pull out a unique dagger. "This one is my favorite though..." She'd swivel the dagger around the wrist of her hand that drew it, but she'd bring her other hand to the handle and in a quick motion she'd split the dagger in two. A spark escaping as the one two sided blade turned into two more single sided kukri style blades.

"... to me they're just tools, so I don't need to use Matatabi's power." Etsuko would explain almost ashamed, as she'd feel a bit defensive knowing how little she cared for her weapons. Perhaps if she named them, if she felt they were a part of her, then maybe they'd perform better. Never had she considered naming and loving her weapon like he seemed to.

"Matatabi's the only weapon that matters to me, to me she's like family." These last things were practically whispered. They were more so a thought than an intended addition to her words. However her social guard was lowered by the kids peculiar clan relation to their weapons and her inability to grasp that subtly.

The kunoichi’s response to his answer to her question confused him. She seemed a little...not upset, but disquieted? Not the sort of reaction Nari had been hoping for when they started this little conversation. It was supposed to be a fun exchange about their weapons, right?

Nari simply walked alongside the older woman as they continued on, listening to her response to the question he posed to her. He did move in a little closer to get a better look at the knives she pulled out. Nari made an appreciative noise as Etsuko showed off a bit. The blades were cool and the genin was in awe of them. Maybe he should see if he could get a hold of something similar.

Or probably not. Hisuiyuri might get jealous if he started adopting new types of weapons. Didn’t want to get on the spear’s bad side.

"That’s okay that they’re just tools for you. My kunai and shuriken are just tools that I use to supplement Hisuiyuri," he said. "So kind of the same. Or maybe not really."

Nari heard the whispered sentence, thanks to his proximity to Etsuko, but didn’t comment on it other than to say: "It’s nice that you’re so close to her." He didn’t know how to address the issue of Matatabi, if it was a thing he was allowed to talk about, especially since they were outside the Village.

He jogged a few feet ahead of the kunoichi and looked out over the path before looking back. "Any idea how much further until we get there?" he asked, as he was starting to grow a little restless.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.

  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.

  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

The path the Jounin and Genin walked on would take them in the direction of a single root of the Great Tree, a root of which a great part had twisted itself out of the earth, being one of the outermost roots of the gigantic plant. This twist was natural, the way some of the buttress roots of a great tree would move a good proportion of their length above the earth, although a good portion of said root was embedded deep inside the earth, providing nutrients and support to the towering stem from which it issued.

As the two ninja approached, they would, from a far distance, see what seemed to be dark patches on the surface of this root, though, thanks to the twilight, the nature of these patches would be difficult to see. But then a patch would begin to glow, revealing that these were not patches, but holes. And holes of no small size, as the shinobi got closer. The holes were actually doorways, leading into hollows which had been made in the root. The shinobi had found the perpetrators of the tree's desecration.

So far, no one seemed to have noticed their approach, it seemed. There were two figures standing on an elevation, that the shinobi would quickly notice. The way they were situated, it was clear that they were some sort of lookout. But they were busiy in discussion, and the gloaming did not help visibility. They were not yet aware of the coming ninja.

Jun Etsuko | Fukase Narihira

"Of course, if she wasn't close, that'd mean the seal had broken." Etsuko wasn't a socialite and a lot of phrases evaded her at times, she'd take the statement of close to be quite literal. She too appreciated the fact Matatabi was so close to her, if it wasn't for the Bijuu then she wouldn't exist. At least that was what the jounin believed, her true origins evaded her and at this point would seem like fiction if revealed.

It'd been years now since her abilities and allegiance with the Bijuu had been revealed practically world wide. It however wasn't enough for people in her village to totally trust her. She after all had mastery of this great power, but had so few internal connections. Those given the chance to be her student likely saw the more innocent side of the jounin. Everyone else likely saw her simply as the villages weapon, she didn't even have a real abode after all. Though at this point she was so used to her cell, she didn't really understand others homes.

"We're here." Etsuko would state barely a few second after the genin would ask. She'd state so with a point of her fingers towards the holes on the approached root. Despite pointing to them first, she'd seen the people standing guard first. They'd to her training stuck out just a bit more, but she knew what to sort of look for based off them. She'd expect that with her pointing out the harder to spot doors, they'd in the same light notice the guards.

Etsuko would squint a little and try to keep a low profile, as she'd look to see if there was truly only two standing guard. "You got this, I'll cover your back." There was more for the genin to learn and gain from fighting these non-shinobi. She felt almost bad for most individuals fixing to fight against her, she'd instead follow in Narihira's footsteps. It'd give her the perfect vantage point to stop back stabbing, as well as be around to support them if overwhelmed. Or simply Etsuko got bored of watching.

No sooner had the impatient words left his mouth, Etsuko announced that they had arrived at their destination. Nari brightened immediately, on the lookout for any of the targets that they had come for. Then darkened when he saw the damage that had been done to the tree. He didn’t know who these people were, but they had some audacity.

He didn’t have to look hard for the couple of the bad guys standing atop an elevated root, even with Etsuko pointing them out. They were quite out in the open. The jounin urged him to go forward and take care of the two lookouts. If Etsuko thought he was capable of doing it by himself, well, he didn’t want to disappoint.

Using the gloom of the rainforest and staying close to the roots, Nari edged his way closer to the lookouts, trying to stay out of their lines of sight. He stepped lightly, as he slowly pulled Hisuiyuri from its holster, making sure not to make any noise. Once he felt he was close enough, Nari would plant the butt of Hisuiyuri into the base of the root and use it to leverage him up into a vaulting kick at the back of one of the men.

If his surprise attack worked he would spin forward and swing Hisuiyuri low towards the second man, hoping to trip him up before he could run away. Then he would swing around and try to slash the first man with the blade of the spear as he completed the spin. And to finish off, he would swing overhand and bring the spear down on the fallen second man.

Hopefully everything would go to plan and he wouldn’t need Etsuko’s help to take out a couple of normies.

The two men on outlook were obviously quite lax, not expecting that there would be any attacks made against them. Unfortunately for them, their assumption was that if the village of Takigakure was going to make a move against them, it would be with larger numbers which would sacrifice the element of stealth and thus be much easier to perceive before they had come within engaging distance. As a result, none of them was aware of the sneaking ninja at the base of the root, or his companion waiting and watching him close by.

The unexpected kick to the back of the first one made the other stare at him in surprise, wondering why he suddenly lurched forward. It was then he saw the silent form of someone, swinging something towards him. In an instant, he was on the ground. Even as Narihira followed up with a slash at the first man, he was too stunned from the kick to recover his wits enough to do anything, a testament to the fact that this fellow had little to no combat training. The slash went across his throat, as bright red crimson burst forth shortly after the spear had passed, the arterial blood gushing from the man's neck an indication that he was as good as dead.

There was a problem with 'normies', though. Although they were easy to take out, they also panicked easily. And panicked humans were quite good at screaming. A surprisingly loud shriek burst forth from the lungs of the downed man while Narihira was opening his colleague's throat, before the Taki nin silenced him with a downward stab. But the scream was enough. Lights began to come on, shouts were called, and people began to emerge from the holes they had made in the tree's roots, makeshift weapons in hand as they sought the source of the scream.

Jun Etsuko | Fukase Narihira

[Jun Etsuko]

Etsuko would more or less rush up on Narihara's position upon the one man's scream. She however wasn't still fully 'alerted', she still more or less calmy approach this scenario. They'd seem to be responding fairly uniformly, so they had a level of organization that could be dangerous. However they wielded make shift weapons and to Etsuko that was a measure of desperation. A factor that'd often drive people to fight harder, but it'd also expose them to make futile mistakes.

"I'll get their attention." Etsuko would state just loud enough for the genin to hear, as she'd quickly create a singular shadow clone. The clone however wouldn't be wearing her weighted cloak, dark clothes and dark hair the clone tried to slip into the shadowing figure Etsuko took to start. She'd be able to watch the genin and her own back with this clone.

Etsuko herself then pounced forward throwing the full weight of herself and training weights against the roots. She'd throw herself closest to the center of all the root holes, as to be easily seen by anyone and everyone. Hopefully using her full strength and weight to land, she'd attempt to crash into the wood and make a real ruckus to get everyone's attention.

Her cloak which covered her was lined with metal weights, it'd be in her eyes unlikely they'd pierce it with makeshift weapons. So hopefully they'd focus in upon her. "READY OR NOT HERE I COME!" Etsuko would boldly announce, then menacingly begin to advance at the closest enemy. Instead of drawing a weapon, she'd merely raise her hands under cloak. To hold it shut and prevent it from being went around easily, then hopefully be the center for attacks. If she had to there was more than her weight cloak to protect her after all.

Nari hissed in dismay as the guy let out a scream, alerting his fellows, before quickly silencing him. Well, that had been a rookie mistake but there was nothing to do about it now. Etsuko came out from hiding and approached him with a calm air about her. If she wasn’t worried about his mistake, then neither was he.

She immediately jumped into the fray, going directly for the center of everything to try and divert their attention towards her. It would leave Nari to deal with any stragglers or those who thought the green-haired kid was more of a threat than the black-haired woman.

He spun Hisuiyuri back into a readied stance and formed a handseal. His feet rose off the ground slightly and he launched forward at the nearest group of stragglers with enhanced speed.

Nari came in low with a sweep of Hisuiyuri’s blade to try and cut their legs out from under them. Following it up with four of the jades leaving their positions to fly at the opponents and stab at the throats of four of the goons with the sharp blades.

It wasn’t much but it was a start and hopefully would detract a little from those running towards Etsuko. It would be rude to let her shoulder all the burden, when this was supposed to be his mission, after all.

With the outlaw settlement having been alerted to the presence of intruders, the emerging bandits saw the cloaked form of the feline kunoichi smash into the major root which they had hollowed out for their residence. If there had been anyone wondering whether the hideout had been under attack before, there was obviously no need for further evidence. with the racket caused, even a blind and deaf person would know something had just happened.

The bandits, for their part, simply sought to get rid of the problem as soon as possible. At least half a dozen of them charged at Etsuko, their voices a chaotic mess of screams, as they sought to stab, slash and smash her with the not-so-efficient weapons they wielded. Although Etsuko's cloak was quite well made, and most likely not going to be breached by the attacking bandits, the Jounin would still have to be careful, as some of them attempted to swing whatever weapons they had straight for her face. And it would be a bit difficult to go blocking weapons with one's face. Very few martial arts trained people for that.

Meanwhile, Narihira quickly drew attention to himself, as four of the bandits fell, bleeding out as the jade weapons cut ribbons in their throats. Three of the bandits closest to him came swinging at him, their eyes wide with rage and fear.
