While she'd had the pleasure of making Sengo's acquaintance Azarea had yet to meet the third and most recent member to their genin team as she stared down at the somewhat familiar name printed on the mission scroll. One Jokyu Katsuo printed in neat black ink stared back at her as she rolled back up the scroll and glanced up from where she'd been leaning against the gate awaiting her mission partner, teammate, and apparently genin teammate. In a way she supposed meeting each other during work was the best way to go about things.

Azarea herself was an older genin in her early twenties, her wild red hair for the moment worn loose around her shoulders accentuating her sharp scarlet eyes as she flips open her weapon pouch and does a quick count of her equipment. The Kunoichi letting out a satisfied hum when she finds everything is in order before her gaze flicks up once more searching the streets for her partner. His name was very akin to Natsuo's... she wonders if they're relatives. Cousins perhaps? Or maybe it's just happenstance and she's over thinking it. As the woman tugs her jacket a bit tighter around herself cursing the fact katon was not an element that came naturally to her. The smell of snow lingered heavily on the wind and she wouldn't be surprised with the sky gray and overcast if they got a dusting of powder on their way towards the port town they'd be aiding.

Fine tuning her chakra control to a razor's edge Azarea is capable of performing delicate techniques with minimal to no wastage of chakra. Allowing her to conserve her reserves in prolonged combat and managed more finickity techniques and jutsu.

Kagura Mind's Eye
Born with a natural affinity towards sensing chakra like her Father before her Azarea has trained herself to become a capable sensory shinobi. Unlocking the Kagura's Mind's Eye, and with it, the ability to passively sense chakra signatures in the distance (when using the technique), thus allowing her to not only track, but also memorize a person's chakra signature, even if barely any chakra is being used. Due to her proficiency with this technique, Azarea can currently passively sense chakra up to 500 meters and actively at 2.5 kilometers.

Meeting his new team was certainly something Katsuo was pretty excited about doing though the fact it would be individually and through missions was a bit of a surprise for the blonde-haired youth. He wasn't complaining of course because going out on a mission just meant more adventure and he loved to explore and do things since he wouldn't be doing it without his brother that meant it was his time to shine as an individual so double plus in his opinion. His mission scroll had the name of Azarea on it, but it didn't list a certainly weird surname, but Katsuo didn't question it too much since there had to be a reason behind it. Best not to dwell on it too much as he was certain eventually he would get that answer while working with them.[break][break]

The weather was certainly going to be a bit on the colder side on their mission with the likelihood of snow possibly happening so Katsuo's outfit that featured a fur lining to it would certainly help with his body temperature regulation. Along with the layers he would be wearing he would be outfitted quite well for possible weather changes. Instinctively he would put his hood on which would cover his blonde hair as he made his way to the meeting location. [break][break]

Once there he would see a red-haired woman awaiting him and he would greet her politely, "You must be Azarea?" He would then extend his hand out in welcome for her to shake as a form of comradery. If she took it or not he would work with whichever before adding, "So how do you want to go about this?" This was about the mission as he figured since he was new to the team she would be the de facto leader of this mission and he would follow along as best as he could. Taking a quick moment to make sure his supplies were in order mostly the fact he carried quite a fair share of weapons on himself. It was obvious at first glance he was certainly a bukijutsu specialist with the fact one would notice the bow, staff, and claws attached to his getup. He had of course the pouches with his other tools and weapons too, but unless someone could see through them what was inside them would remain unknown.

Turning Azarea blinked as Natsuo came around the... no. No now that she was getting a closer look at the boy approaching it had to be Katsuo. The twins really did look nearly identical, but there were little tells. Namely Natsuo tended to prefer silver and this boy seemed to lean towards gold. Cracking a fanged grin Azarea reached out taking the boys hand with her own gloved one as she gives it a firm shake. "Pleasure to meet you Katsuo. I've run into your brother previously. Taught him to tree walk. I could do the same for you after this mission if you'd prefer or we could do other training." She offers releasing his hand as she tucks her own into the pockets of her jacket and lets out a hum as she glances skyward.

"However we're due at the port here soon to catch who or what is stealing that fish." She adds with a slight sigh and a shake of her head. "I'm glad you're dressed warmly it'll probably be bitterly cold down there by the water with the sea spray. Do you know how to walk on water yet?" She inquires with a tilt of her head. It would be easier if such was a skill the Jokyu had already accomplished, but it wasn't impossible to complete the job if he hadn't. Though she was curious to see how the twins differed or if the two were really nearly identical in all ways. Their clans magnet release rather fascinating to behold as an idea slowly formed within Azarea's mind.

"Great," Katsuo would mutter at the mention of his twin brother both being trained by his teammate and the fact he had already learned tree walking, "Just another thing he is ahead of me." Katsuo was bitter about always being behind his star pupil of a brother, but that wouldn't stop him from trying his hardest to eventually be better. Though he wouldn't have a lot of time to reflect on the woman's words afterward as she was eager to get their mission started which was fine and all with him. The sooner they got this done the sooner he could get back to training. [break][break]

At the very least it seemed he made a good choice with his outfit based on what the crimson-haired woman was explaining not that he planned it, but rather this is what he normally wore so it was more luck than anything else. Of course, though she would comment about his ineptitude without realizing it not she would know since this was the first time they met so it wasn't her fault. "Why does Natsuo have me beat on that too?" he would spit out a tad more aggressively than he meant to. After he let those words escape his mouth he added, "Sorry didn't mean to be rude. No, I don't know how to water walk yet." His facial expression shows a mix of rage and disappointment on it both at himself and toward his brother.

Assessment

The Kunoichi let's the first bitter barb sail past. She'd dealt with Takame and was no stranger to prickly partners though she takes note of the resentment that stains Katsuo's words. She'd heard twins typically have good relationships, but it seems that rumor was a lie if the poison in his tone was anything to go by. In a way Azarea could understand. While she didn't recognize any of Toshizou's spawn as her siblings there was a certain ache whenever she realized even if the man regretted his actions she'd still been tossed aside.

A broken worthless toy. An unwanted child.

She'd been willing to let his comments pass in silence at least... until he turned the sharp edge of his tongue on her. The Kunoichi pausing in her step, the once smile and carefully practiced disarming mask she'd worked so hard to perfect dropping like a stone through water. Replaced instead with an icy expression as the red head slowly arched a brow her scarlet eyes piercing as she dragged her gaze up and then down Katsuo with a look that said she found the boy wanting. Her tongue sharpened and ready to cut the other genin down to size, but his quick apology saves him from her retort. Though Azarea's expression does not soften, no point in playing friendly when it was clear Katsuo was looking for a more business like relationship, her gaze does grow considering. "Do you want to learn?" She offers tone clipped, but it's clear her offer is an honest one.

"I won't be able to baby you like I did your brother since we have a job to do so you'll be learning as we go, but I'm not opposed to teaching you." Azarea adds before turning smartly on her heel once more to continue their progress. Not a woman to waste time this one. "Learning to water walk before learning to tree walk is much more difficult, but if you master it then the other will come easily enough. Hopefully your boots and clothes are water repellent." She cautions, but if they weren't it wasn't like she couldn't keep him from freezing to death, but she wouldn't tell Katsuo that. Not when she was curious if he was the sort to gripe and take the easy way out or grasp onto the rope thrown to him even if the path it lead through was a rocky one.

"Wouldn't learning on the job while on a mission make things difficult?" Katsuo would ask with strong curiosity. He was certain it wouldn't be a wise endeavor, but if she was willing to teach him why would he say no? It would at least let him catch up to Natsuo a tad bit which honestly was a good plus. So why would he deny the opportunity to be taught?[break][break]

Though she did provide a bit of insight that made him smile a bit. "So Natsuo struggled I'm guessing?" Katsuo asked with a hint of glee in his voice. It wasn't very often he had heard the golden child had an issue learning new things so it was certainly something that made him smile quite a bit. She would then explain how learning water walking before tree climbing was a lot harder to which Katsuo couldn't help and respond with, "I'm used to uphill battles I'm willing to work hard to learn just about anything." Determination was ablaze in his eyes as the disdain and toxicity in his aura were now replaced with drive and ambition. [break][break]

"As for my clothing, it doesn't matter if they are or not as I will work with whatever happens to them to get the job done," Katsuo not even feeling like it could be dangerous and forgetting there could be issues if his clothing did get oversoaked.

"Learning on the job is more difficult if you're a slow learner, but luckily for you we have a readily available practice medium to start you out with before you get your feet wet." She jokes gesturing to the snow they currently trod through with a slight smirk. The offer to teach him and the mention that she wouldn't go easy seeming to have pricked at his pride along with the prospect of exceeding his brother.

"And yes I had to catch Natsuo more then once," She admits wetting the boys appetite as she channeled chakra to the soles of her feet and stepped up atop the snow. No longer forced to trudge through the cold and slush. "Channel chakra to the soles of your feet and match the vibrations of your chakra to the vibrations of the water. Snow is slow moving, but some of this is slush and mud so it won't be as easy as you think. Spread your chakra outwards from your feet like snowshoes. The purpose of water walking is to increase your surface tension to not fall in." Azarea gives him a brief, but thorough rundown on what he needs to perform the technique, but never so much as pauses in her step. Curious to see if Katsuo could handle learning on the fly as they ran or if he'd soon grow frustrated with the hard work and trail and error and give up.

"Sides we're looking for thieves by the docks and the easiest way to catch thieves is hiding where they least expect you which in our case would be the rooftops or underneath the docks on the water. Which means you either need to develop your chakra sea legs or learn to walk up walls. So this will come in handy later." She assures the boy not wanting him to think she was needlessly torturing him. I mean she somewhat was, but that was the boon she got for being his impromptu sensei.

Katsuo never thought that snow would be a great starting point for learning water walking the idea was kind of fascinating to the boy. So he became quite eager to try it out, especially because Azarea included that she had to catch Natsuo a couple of times herself. If he could figure it out before even stepping into the water it would just be a small victory for the blonde over the silver-haired brother and he would take any victories he could get.[break][break]

She would then go over the process and procedures of water walking and even demonstrate it herself by practically stepping on the snow as if it was a wooden floorboard. Katsuo had to take a gulp himself thinking he might not be ready to attempt this, but at the same time wouldn't it be great if he could get it right on the first try? [break][break]

So he would try either way and concentrate his chakra on his feet hoping he would be able to do as Azarea had instructed. Taking his first step after doing this he could tell his wavelength of chakra wasn't perfect as he felt very imbalanced in his steps. His feet still sunk in the snow though not as much and his heel would go a bit further down than the balls of his feet, it was showing promise for him. His arms would flail slightly with each step though as he did his best to keep his balance. Katsuo couldn't also let out a, "Woah," as he continued to try and make this work. [break][break]

Azarea would also comment on needing to either be on rooftops or on the water which essentially meant Katsuo would need to learn fast to not be a hinder to the mission. This put a lot of pressure on the boy and he couldn't help and laugh nervously and say, "No pressure right?"

The Devil That You Forgot

A Good Start

Eyeing his progress Azarea would admit she was grudgingly impressed. Snow was probably the easiest water to start on, but the kid still had himself atop it without too much struggle and only sinking in an inch or so. Which bode well for his chakra control. "Not bad Kid," Azarea praised, not one to fail to give compliments where compliments were due. "You even managed to work from your lowest amount of chakra up instead of from your highest amount down. Hence why you didn't just explode the snow all over you." She points out as Katsuo would realize she'd likely purposefully left out that such things were a risk just to see his face if he failed and covered himself in slush.

"Try it on that slurry over there once you get your feet under you on the snow." She suggests pointing towards where the snow had melted in spots in the sun and turned to slush and thin ice. "And yeah, no. All the pressure." The Woman adds with a bright toothy grin eyes alight with mischief.

"Because you're going to be the one to apprehend our thief. You're gonna nab them and I'm gonna bag em." Azarea revels which means the burden of the chase would be on Katsuo's shoulders as in the distance they could now see the wide expanse of the ocean and smell the salt of sea. Soon Katsuo's skills would be put to the real test. Not that Azarea would let him get into too much trouble, but she was happy to throw the blonde haired boy into trouble head first and fish him out later if he failed to swim.

Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria [Queen's Coronation Regalia]
A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

Reigning Chakra Control
Fine tuning her chakra control to a razor's edge Azarea is capable of performing delicate techniques with minimal to no wastage of chakra. Allowing her to conserve her reserves in prolonged combat and managed more finickity techniques and jutsu.

Kagura Mind's Eye
Born with a natural affinity towards sensing chakra like her Father before her Azarea has trained herself to become a capable sensory shinobi. Unlocking the Kagura's Mind's Eye, and with it, the ability to passively sense chakra signatures in the distance (when using the technique), thus allowing her to not only track, but also memorize a person's chakra signature, even if barely any chakra is being used. Due to her proficiency with this technique, Azarea can currently passively sense chakra up to 500 meters and actively at 2.5 kilometers.

A Fishy Situation

"Wait what?" Katsuo would say confused at Azarea's comment about exploding only to lose focus and slip into the snow. He would look down at his feet in frustration and try to make light of it by saying, "Well at least I didn't explode." He was gonna try and push his grumpy self away, especially for someone who was trying to train him while they were on duty for a mission. Azarea didn't have to do this for him, but she was so he needed to take advantage of this opportunity the best he could.[break][break]

She would then suggest he try it on the slush portion of the snow which meant it would be less stable than the previous snow section. Despite having lost focus he figured it would still be worth the try and would focus to try and get this right the first time. His first step did the explosion thing though as his nerves were beginning to rack up. While it wasn't a big explosion of slush it did dose him a bit to which he frowned slightly. "I see what you meant," he would say dryly as he kept trying to better himself with each step. Some steps would explode in various amounts while on some steps he would sink causing him to lose balance and of course, lose focus too.[break][break]

It didn't help she said he would be the one to apprehend the thief so a lot was riding on his shoulders to get this technique right before they made it to their location. His speed was hampered by the fact he was trying to get the jutsu correct, but with each step, he was getting better and better at doing the jutsu even if it was marginally. He honestly wasn't sure what to make of his progress concerning his brother, but right now that wasn't what was on his mind, but rather making sure he wasn't wasting his partner's time.

Practice nailing the water-walking technique was all well and good, but there was a thief to catch! Once Katsuo had the concept of the technique well in hand, it was time to get back to business. Their hiding place: underneath the docks on the water. Katsuo’s sensei took him to the docks and established their position, channeling chakra to her feet to allow her to walk on water and stay hidden, but still keep a decent viewpoint of the market stalls that lined the street offshore. Katsuo would be able to join her on the water beneath, and thought it would take some surveillance time, eventually they would spy a young-looking kid glancing around surreptitiously before sidling up to a fishmonger’s stall. Hastily the girl would grab a handful of wet, shiny fish and shove them in her bag before taking off. The fishmonger, catching a glimpse of fins peeking out of her bag as she darted off, shouted and started to chase her down the street. "Hey,” he hollered, "thief! Somebody catch her!” Katsuo’s sensei elbowed him—this was his time to shine. That was the plan—he nabs, sensei bags. Though whether or not Katsuo would be able to follow through on the plan now that there was a child involved remained to be seen…

[attr="class","ktt-post"]After getting down the basics of water walking they needed to continue with their mission taking them down to the docks. Finding a good position to lie in wait Katsuo would use the water walking tech to keep afloat next to Azarea as instructed. It would be a bit before anything happened so it gave him plenty of time to focus on his chakra to keep him steady above the ever-swaying water. So he got used to the waves a bit which made the whole lesson fairly easy now though he wasn't perfect if he didn't keep his focus on it he could feel it slipping slightly.

After some time action would begin in their mission as a young child would appear and steal some fish from a stall. They weren't being very discreet as they were sticking out of her bag so the fishmonger would notice them sticking out of it and yell. With a gentle nudge from Azarea, this was Katsuo's queue to go after the girl so running across the water he would make his way to the girl.

In his haste, though he lost a little focus on his footing from the waterwalking and the resulting force pushed him out of the water onto dry land. This was both a boon and a bane as it got him closer to the girl, but the way he landed on the dock did cause him to suffer a bit of an arm injury. He wasn't about to let this fully stop him from trying to stop her though as he would grab one of his arrows and tap the tip before chucking it, with his good arm, towards the girl. With his chakra in the arrow, he would control it to where it would pierce the bag stick itself into a nearby stall, and trap it there. "Got you," Katsuo would say hoping Azarea would make sure the girl wouldn't get away while he tried to pick himself up.

Katsuo was quick to act, his magnetically-charged arrowhead piercing clean through the burlap of the girl’s overflowing bag of fish and pinning it to a wooden stall behind her. She whirled in place, gasping; plaintively she very nearly reached out to grab one of the fish, but after seeing where the arrow had come from, she presumably thought better of it and turned on her heel to keep running without her payload. Unfortunately for her, she ran right into Azarea, who grabbed her by the collar to keep her from running any further. The girl thrashed and squirmed in her effort to get away, but with no luck; there was no escape, and she had been well and truly caught. Tears welled up in the girl’s eyes as she slumped with defeat, waiting for the death knell to fall on her shoulders, the consequences of her actions coming home to roost. This was another teaching moment. Azarea had her own preference on how to handle this situation, but as Katsuo’s senpai, it was more important to see how he would handle this situation; with the target captured and the merchant quickly on his way to demand justice, she would look to Katsuo, allowing him to take the lead in resolving this mission once and for all.

The merchant was angry and they were marching towards the girl with who knows what kind of thoughts or reasons behind what kind of justice he was demanding. Katsuo didn't like the idea of the girl possibly being killed just because of some fish so getting up from his fall he headed over to the group to get a feel for what was going on.

Azarea remained silent as if she was waiting to see what Katsuo would do. So he couldn't ask her for her advice, but his small sense of humility for the girl certainly made him feel a bit remorseful for putting her in this type of situation. Grabbing the bag in which his arrow had lodged itself he would return the fish to the merchant along with some coin for his trouble. It wasn't much but should be enough to cover a few missing fish that may have occurred before they arrived. "We shall take care of this girl you return to your stall otherwise your outburst might end up leading to poor sales from the locals," Katsuo would add as a small crowd was beginning to gather at their location.

Once the man went back to his stall Katsuo would approach the girl and cross his arms. "You do realize you could have died by stealing from the wrong people right?" Katsuo would be rather stern in his voice trying to be somewhat responsible in his actions despite not being this way normally. He wanted to impress Azarea so he was trying to be responsible to a degree. Sighing a bit and shaking his head he would add, "We can't just let you go as you won't be able to learn from your mistakes, but we can learn your reasoning behind this so tell us why you decided to steal from the merchants."

Katsuo handed the girl’s stolen goods back over to the merchant, alongside a few coins; his ire was somewhat soothed, but he was still gearing up to demand justice and to throw the girl straight to prison before Katsuo interrupted him, asserting himself as the authority in this situation. Chided, the merchant grumbled and took himself, his fish, and his returned coin back to his stall amongst the murmurs of onlookers. Once he was gone, Azarea put the girl back down on the ground, though kept hold of her collar just in case she tried to dart off again. Now that they were all grouped together and could get a good look at her, it seemed she was older than one might have assumed at first glance, maybe around twelve or so—but skinny and gangly, clearly underfed. The unshed tears in her eyes glistened with frustrated, defeated anger. "I’ve got two little brothers,” she said, the words spat out of her mouth like she could hit Katsuo with them if she tried hard enough. "I’m just trying to make sure they eat. Sorry that’s a crime.” That she could have died didn’t seem to be a concern for her, like the thought had never crossed her mind until Katsuo said it and it certainly didn’t bother her now. She was certainly unrepentant—sorry, but only sorry that she got caught. Which left the question: what to do with her?
