While a semi-meme, this post is prolific swearing and so is buried inside a spoiler.

That made sense. Hotarubi began to walk toward the stone weight that would hopefully get them to proceed to... round 3? Puzzle number 2? But he stopped, frozen, at Sadako. Rather than interrupt her, he swivelled on his heel. It was there that he recognised a fact about his personality by what was going to happen next.

"What the fuck did you say about me, you little bitch?" Hotarubi was mortified at her use of language. He did not understand how it bothered him as much as he did. Was it his lack of energy? Was it the careless disregard for her own life? His arm would morph into that of a long, sharp blade with his elbow bent, as he began walking for her. All intent on burying the large blade in the space between her jaw and her shoulders.

Junichi, for all they could have tried, bless them, would not have been able to out-volume the Yamakira who had nearly melted into screams.

"I've killed my entire life. I graduated the top of my class. I'm involved in the highest level of missions, trained in warfare, I'm the goddamn best ninja in Takigakure and you are nothing to me but another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes that's never been seen in the elemental nations. Mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with calling me a fatass? Think again, fucker, you're fucking dead, kid. I can shunshin anywhere, anytime and kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my body." Someone would get in his way, and that wouldn't stop him - but it did absolutely help that it meant he didn't need to fight.

Pragmatically and realistically, unless someone had a binding Fuinjutsu, or a Genjutsu to bind him at the cost of their own exam, he was far stronger, and far heavier to be moved by brute force. Someone else could have tried to cut him down, but so long as he had chakra - they would be next.

"I have the access to the entire jutsu of my clan and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of this tsuchi no kuni continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy kunoichi retribution your little 'clever' comment was about to bring down on you, you'd have held yer fucking tongue but you couldn't, and didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you'll drown in it. You're fucking dead, bitch. " if she was stupid enough to engage him, or he actually reached her he would try to do exactly that, and bury the now-thorn like protrusion into her midsection somewhere. "Your dead body weighs the same fucking amount, c@£%."

His screaming was, certainly, loud. It was also half lies the entire time and that probably made him sound like a fool - but, his image was not the focus of his desires there.

He was a breathing mess of noise, venom seething in his voice. The anger of the Yamakira had burned a hole through him and while it had never been the loss of a family or being bullied out of the academy that bothered him. Or, it had: and he had not allowed himself a true grieving on the matter and those emotions buried beneath the surface were coming out now. The personality fact he'd recognised somewhere in the back of his mind was that he was extemely irritable when he was tired. 17 hours of non stop usage of chakra, barely five hours of poor and broken sleep; you couldn't blame him.

Jutsu:

NAME: Doton: Karada Chōkoku [Earth Release: Body Sculpting]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu
ELEMENT: Doton
HANDSEALS: 0
DESCRIPTION:
This technique is another derivative of the normal earth sculpting techniques, but instead on using the earth around them the user utilizes the earth that they can turn into and shifts parts of their bodies into other objects (usually weapons like swords or hammers) and hardens it, or conversely revert their body parts back from the objects they have turned them into. Because the substance being manipulated is part of their bodies, it uses less chakra than its counterpart. The size and durability of the construct is restricted by the amount of earth/stone the body part has and the amount of chakra used to make the construct.

He was disappointed that just stepping on the scale didn’t keep the scale pressed in. Nari didn’t want to lug stones around, especially an eight-hundred pound one, but if it would get the group through, he’d be willing to do it. Albeit begrudgingly.
[break][break]
The teen moved from his scale over to the stone wheels and began testing them, picking them up by the edges to test them out. Thanks to his training with Hisuiyuri, Nari was capable of lifting around two-fifty, or two-seventy five - a necessity, when one used a spear as a vaulting pole - so lifting four out of the five should be easy for him.
[break][break]
Or it would be easy, if Sadako had just, y’know, not insulted Hotarubi. The moment the scathing words had left her mouth, himself flinching at the unnecessary overuse of swearing, Nari internally groaned and had to stop himself from facepalming again.
[break][break]
Why was this his life? He just wanted to pass on, maybe make up a little for his performance in the first round, and these jerks were making it so much more difficult than it had to be. Junichi was a sweetheart, trying to scold the two into behaving, but Hotarubi, it seemed, was not one to turn the other cheek when it came to insults.
[break][break]
Narihira fullbody flinched at the onslaught of swear words coming out from his fellow Taki shinobi, each curse word making him more and more uncomfortable. He wanted to cover his ears, until the shouting stopped, but that would eat up even more time that could be spent sifting through rocks.
[break][break]
Junichi had the right idea, and while the other two continued puffing their chests, the remaining three should figure out which rocks went where. If the one that Junichi was picking was his rock, and the one that he and the Kumo had tried to lift was Hotarubi’s, then figuring out which one of the remaining three was which would be simple. As long as he could ignore the screaming going on.
[break][break]
Nari lifted one of the rocks, tested the weight, then put it down and tested the next one. Second one was heavier than the first one. He lifted the third rock and tested that weight. Lighter than the second, but heavier than the first. Okay, he figured it out…he hoped. He set the first wheel on its side and pushed it over towards Katsuo, motioning that the rolling stone should be his.
[break][break]
He lifted the third wheel back up and moved to set it over on his scale when his irritation at the loud yelling reached its peak. He glared over at the other two and saw that Hotarubi was waving around his transformed arm and Nari knew he had to move before something happened that got them all disqualified.
[break][break]
"That’s enough!" he shouted, wind moving his feet to get in between the two genin quickly, hands held out defensively towards them. "You’re acting like children, both of you!" He didn’t take out Hisuiyuri, he hoped it hadn’t reached a point where he’d need the spear.
[break][break]
"Why would he lie about something as simple as weight? You don’t anything about him or the Yamakira, so back off." He aimed at Sadako. "The hint says the scale needs eight-hundred pounds and that is what matters."
[break][break]
"And you!" He turned to Hotarubi. "Why are you rising to her bait? I don’t know why, but she’s trying to make you angry. Violence won’t help right now, all it would achieve is getting yourself and possibly the rest of us disqualified. Is that what you want?"
[break][break]
He straightened up, hands clenched into fists at his sides. "Junichi is right. We need to work together to get through this. We only have an hour and you both have wasted almost 10 minutes acting like you belong back at the Academy rather than at the Exams. I am begging you, grow up, stop acting like this, and help us."

Jutsu Used:[break]

[break][break]

SAs Used:[break]
  • 『Zanjutsu』[break]
A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.
    [break][break]
Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
  • 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
  • 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.
    [break][break]
It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.
    [break][break]
When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
  • 『Flying Jades』[break]
Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.
    [break][break]
At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

As three of the five of them had stepped on the scales Katsuo would take notice of the trail of seals glowing blue, but unsuccessfully complete the trial given to them. That had to mean they were on the correct track for solving this puzzle, but things would go south quite quickly. Especially when the female of the group and the pink-haired giant seemed to be at each other's throats.[break][break]

Yells of threats and other obscenities would be echoing in the room, to which Katsuo would wonder if any of the people from the other teams would be able to hear them, as the pink-haired giant would almost look as if he was ready to start, and possibly end a fight. Katsuo had to sigh to himself as he decided to sit down on his scale as he felt this was gonna take a while. No point in using what was left of his energy pandering to their antics right? Well, he wouldn't get to sit for too long as the other two who did join him on the scales seemed to go into the action of their own. The blonde boy went back to trying rocks and the thinker of the group seemed to do the same bringing rocks to their scales.[break][break]

Katsuo was a bit confused by this as he felt they were already on the right track so why would they need the rocks anymore? Though he wouldn't get tot to think too much about it when the thinker began exploding back to the two toddlers of the group. "Looks like I'm on a team of hotheads," Katsuo would comment to himself as he yawned slightly almost bored out of his mind. If they were gonna fight might as well get it over with and just end this team challenge for them all. So he figured he would also add to the fire, "If you two are gonna kill each other just get it over with so we can continue this puzzle already!" Katsuo figured even if one of them died it wasn't like they couldn't fail this challenge since they had rocks to take the place of those who fell in combat here.

KILLING YOUR IDOLS IS A CHORE

The words had barely left Sadako's lips when the proctor's irritating voice came crackling in over the intercom again: Team C has passed the first phase of the exams. A lot to unpack there: first phase? Did that mean this puzzle was only the first of a few, and they were just wasting time? Or was it just a shitty mindgame, some kind of stupid ploy to make them sweat it out?

But before she could really try to process what that meant, her kid teammate started scolding her--scolding her!--pouting about expecting better. Sadako's jaw clenched, her chin lifting as she glared daggers at Junichi.

She might have snapped back. She might not have; instead, she might have been mollified by his frustrated little pout, lured into making some gesture towards the spirit of teamwork if only out of the simple desire to watch his back, same as he'd done for her. Maybe she would have even been able to contribute something productive towards this phase of the exam.

Instead, Junichi's rebuke was drowned out by psychopathy, and the room devolved into chaos.

The Taki genin's arm just--shifted in place, the skin warping and mutating like shifting stone until the hand and fingers were completely gone, only a blade left in its place. He advanced on her, face contorted into a hateful scream as a barrage of violence spewed from his mouth, and Sadako, still horribly human, her heartrate skyrocketing as her palms prickled with sweat: took a step backwards.

Only one, but fuck, did she hate herself for it.

Her fists clenching, her blood roaring in her ears as her mind spun its wheels, desperately trying to string together a cohesive plan through the encroaching panic and the deafening flood of threats swept through the examination area. Flash bombs: gone, all used in round one. She still had explosive tags, kunai, shuriken. Pure instinct guided her hand to her pocket, where she grabbed a piece of paper.

Her face an image of pure fury, Sadako's mouth opened, her hand pulling out of her pocket with every intent to stand her ground and fuck the consequences, fuck the exam, fuck her life, fuck this guy--

And then the bomb squad arrived, a blur of dark teal darting in between Sadako and the raging behemoth of a serial-killer-in-training advancing on her. It wasn't much, but it was a body between her and near-certain death, and a scant few seconds to compose herself: the mask came back down, rage and hate and fear smoothing over into a flimsy veneer of projected boredom as she rolled her eyes, shifted her weight, folded her arms across her chest. (Explosive note still carefully tucked in her hand, concealed by an awkwardly-clenched fist; she wasn't letting her guard down that easily.)

"Your buddy's a nutjob," Sadako said to Narihira, her lip curled into a sneer. "He belongs in a psych ward. You--" she pointed at Katsuo, not even sparing him the dignity of a glance, not risking taking her eyes of Hotarubi, "--shut your mouth. And you--" she jabbed a finger at Hotarubi, taking another step back. "--are a fucking--"

As if feeling the piercing weight of Junichi's gaze on the back of her head, Sadako's jaw clamped shut, biting her tongue so hard that blood filled her mouth.

"You're not even worth my time right now." Sadako spat the blood unceremoniously onto the ground, taking a third step back. "If you're such an elite fuckin' assassin then you can prove it in the next round, you lying sack of shit. Help your fucking teammate."

If allowed to continue her tactical retreat, Sadako, sweat trickling down the back of her neck and still thrumming with tension, would take possession of the only remaining unclaimed stone. Hers was second one that Narihira had identified, which was the heaviest aside from the one the Kumo kid and Junichi had tried and failed to pick up. She hadn't exactly been paying attention to what the others were doing, but it didn't take a genius to sort out that they were trying to get the right stones on the right scales, and it would be simple enough for someone of Sadako's strength to pick up her own stone and get it on her zero-six-one scale.

But if Hotarubi blitzed through Narihira's attempted intervention to keep coming after her, then Sadako would be ready, explosive note in hand.

Iwane was set and ready to make an announcement, "Team D has passed the first phase of the second rou–” However as the team continued to fall into disarray due to the violence brought about by the waterfall shinobi. Iwane who was caught off guard by the young man’s booming voice that echoed throughout the other side of the area would prompt him to swiftly take note of what was going on as he approached the Ame shinobi who seemed to be cracking under pressure.

Prompting another member of their team Junichi to step off of their scale to attempt and assist, whilst Fukase also had made his way in between the two in order to attempt to get them to cease their fighting. With the Kumo shinobi simply choosing to do nothing only choosing to goad in the fighting between the two. "Team E, Harming the other participants is expressly against the rules of this phase of the exams, if the other members of the team cannot get their teammates to cooperate you are at risk of failing the exams!" with that being said Iwane would keep his eyes on this particular team making sure they were following the rules. However as this happened he would note that one other team had also passed around at the same time.

"Team F and A have passed the first phase of the second round.” prompting extra motivation the team was falling into disarray and needed to make ground quickly they were quickly losing time and losing ground. With everyone save for jokyu and Hotarubi gathering stones and placing them on the scales each stone weighing the same amount of 600 lbs for each stone they'd set them down onto the scales and upon doing so a seal would activate that would spell out a fragment of a code that would appear with the same blue glow that the scales had each had state ____from left to _____ written coincidentally also from left to right the two who chose not to take stones of their owns not having their word revealed thus leaving the riddle incomplete. However with the lack of action by Jokyu and Hotarubi's irritability there were only two teams left just who would win out?

He would point his fingers on his non-bladed arm loosely at Narihara. "Out of my way." He would only warn Narihara once, otherwise he would turn the kid into a pincushion, they'd have likely made the assumption it was another blade. Oh ho ho. No chance. Nobody could stop him, not this twig, not that dog. So while his slew of words came pouring from his mouth, he was told by the conductor - proctor, whatever, that killing was prohibited. It would cause an immediate reaction. Before he could give Narihara an opportunity to stop, he turned away from Narihara.

"YA DIDIN'T FUCKIN SAY SO!" Hotarubi would yell, seething up at the box as he turned his head.

However, if there was one thing he wanted more than anything: it was to become a Chunin. He could be reigned in for that. He did hear it, but if it hadn't been for Narihara's faculties to delay him that they began to start working again and he began to think with his ego rather than his pride at the time, and though the anger was there - he delayed it.

He began to walk again but was stopped by Narihara on the girl starting another round of insults yet again, but a smug smile came to his face when she faltered. "That's right." He saw the way she backed down, stopping herself: trying to give a little excuse over why she couldn't - didn't want to fight him. "Roll over onto your belly like the dog you are, before I make sure you don't come back to the exams a second time. Don't fuckin think I won't-" Hotarubi spoke, a lot less louder than his previous shouting, pointing his arm blade at her.

The idea did roll around to keep them all holed up until she kissed his feet and apologised, but did he really want to not kill her and fail the exams? No. It was one of the two. She dies, he fails. She doesn't die, he fails. Worst case scenario.

He would have rather passed. But, given his tired and irritable demeanour, and the fact a new rule was in place. "Fuckin unfair!" He shouted up at them again. Hotarubi went to stand on the 008 platform, obviously his weight would be enough. But if only to reveal the glowing blue code, which he'd observed on the floor being created.

Yes, it had taken him a while to get because he was very busy being angry.

"Well this is boring," Katsuo would say to himself as the confrontation began to deescalate. Firstly they had the one boy try and stop the two of them from fighting and then the protector spoke about how harming other people could lead to a disqualification which felt like it was a rushed decision. Wouldn't it be better if people were forced to take out of the exam? Sure Katsuo didn't know how many people were left in this exam, but based on the announcements so far there were other teams passing this puzzle. If their team size was any indication that mean there were at least twenty shinobi left in this exam. So it only made sense for some of them to be cut so why stop them from fighting?[break][break]

Well, whatever their reason for pushing this new rule it didn't matter to Katsuo as he was simply waiting on the other teammates of his to finish the task at hand. Still, on his scale, he decided to lie down and begin playing with his goggles. Levitating them up and down a few inches off his head almost as if he was juggling them. He was bored out of his mind and if the team wasn't going to be interested in fighting he would entertain himself.

The announcement came that several other of the teams had finished their rounds. They were losing ground fast. It was so frustrating! Even though they'd figured out the solution to the puzzle, the unnecessary argument and other teammates lollygagging was going to end up costing the whole team the round. Why had it taken those two so long to see that? There was way too much ground for them to make up now. He'd be surprised if they didn't end up in last...

But picking a fight about it would just cause more tension and make things take even longer, so Junichi decided not to raise his voice about it and to just hunker down helping get everything in place. Quietly, he checked in that everything was in its proper place to ensure the reveal of the rest of the hint, so that things would continue to go smoothly even if another fight broke out for some reason.

Though he didn't regret sticking with Sadako, this almost made him feel that way - there were so many other competent shinobi he'd seen around before the exams that he could've gotten stuck on a team with instead of two hot-heads! He just didn't know how to manage that kind of thing, especially because no one was going to respect someone so young...

It was fine. Once the clue was fully revealed, they could wrap up quickly.

With Hotarubi standing atop his scale finally the weight he added would cause the ground to glow blue and cause the seal on the ground to line up directly within the center of the room but would be incomplete without the others to stand atop them, thus preventing their exit.

However with each of the stones now in place save for Hotarubi who stood stop his along with Jokyu who stood on his the message was still incomplete thus far nothing had changed and if they didn’t realize their folly they would fail to make the time-limit the other teams had already passed on so at this point they were already in contention for last place within this particular phase.

"All of the remaining teams have passed phase 1 of the second round, you still have time to complete your puzzle but unfortunately you are currently in last place.” Iwane would state surely he words would be rather demoralizing to the team that seemed to be held back by their companions squabbling.

For now he’d simply watch the clock and see if they could figure it out, even without the riddle however if they examined the state of Hotarubi and Jokyu’s seals they might just notice exactly what they may need to do.

Still - they were paralysed with lack of action and Hotarubi crossed his arms. Crossed them as best he could while knowing that one of them was still in the shape of a blade.

With them being noted as the last performers, Hotarubi would tut loudly. He was aggravated and losing place. If he was going to fail the exams, he was going to take Sadako with him - and not in a sexual manner.

"Getanthefuckin platforms!" If Hotarubi could do it, then the others could as well. Sure, there appeared to be a code: but no puzzle could be completed in its entirety without first having the other information (this was not true.) But to Hotarubi, it wasn't: and if anything, he could hope they would be cooperative, without adding anything unique to the situation and follow his orders provided they didn't have any crass, funny comments to add.

He would close his eyes for the time being, focusing his minds eye: that was, using the 100 meter range on his sensory abilities to see into the other two arenas on either side of them: to see if there had been a completed puzzle.

Unless- wait, if everybody had different weight sizes? But it would at least give them an idea, surely. It would hopefully help him map out the areas, and if there were any clues... but he couldn't read chakra from echo-location, for what it had been...

So, what next?

Those two weren't paying attention to what they were doing at all! Now the whole team had fallen into last place just because of them. He almost hoped that they would fail, because these two definitely didn't qualify to become Chuunin if they couldn't pick up on simple context clues like matching what the rest of the team was doing! Junichi was almost frustrated with himself, since he apparently didn't lay things out clearly enough, but he also felt like he shouldn't have to. He was the youngest one here, wasn't he? Why had it been all up to him and Narihira to keep these things on track...

And now Hotarubi was yelling at them all to do the wrong thing! Junichi grit his teeth.

Whatever! He would have to take up command now. He took a deep breath and tried to calm down, willing himself to act as if he was bossing Kenichi around.

"Don't tell us to get on the platforms! You're the one who's doing the wrong thing. We already got on them and that opens the gates, but if we get off in the wrong order the gates close again. We need to put our stones on the scales to find out which direction to leave in. So get your stones on the scales so we can get the clue and get out of here without wasting more time."

In order to make sure this got done, he would march over to the two remaining stones and make sure they got moved into place.

Once the hint was revealed, he would coordinate the team to exit through the gates in the manner the hint described. He would be exceptionally demanding about it to make sure it got done right. They'd already lost, they didn't need to embarrass themselves by timing out, too!

Well, this was getting ridiculous no one was working together and even when they could do the correct thing they were wrong. Why did they even change their mind, to begin with? First, they wanted them on the scales now they wanted them off the scales? There was no coordination in the group and honestly, Katsuo was done with it already. He would have preferred to work with his brother instead of this lousy group of misfits. [break][break]

The blonde would then proceed to yell back at the pink-haired troublemaker despite them doing exactly what the blonde and the others wanted him to do in the first place! "Make up your minds! To begin with, we haven't even tested if we all need to do is be on the platforms!" Katsuo would get up from his lying down position and then continue, "For all, we know the rocks could be a red herring, and using them would be a waste of time just get back on the scales and we can test this first!" Katsuo would then point to everyone and add, "All of us this time!" He would make a pointed jab toward the girl since of the group she was the only one who didn't get on a scale at least from his memory. Katsuo would then also continue saying, "We don't even know if the gates will close to begin with since we haven't even all been on the scales for all we know you all taking the time to grab the rocks is slowing us down!"

With Hotarubi, Katsuo and Junichi standing atop their scales their combined weight would cause the seals on the ground to line up directly within the center of the room but would be incomplete without the others to stand atop them, thus preventing their exit. However it would seem that Junichi opted to grab two of the stones for their team but if the other members refused to budge they'd be seemingly left with the weight in their hands.

If they did choose to move however they would reveal the full riddle which would state. "Read form left to right." still somewhat cryptic, something else to note if the team had stepped off the scales the seal that seemingly came near the door and merged in the center would break apart in order to reveal the letter.

However if they opted not to listen and remained on the scales the message was still incomplete and with the trio still where their were nothing had seemingly changed. However Katsuo did make the gesture to tell the team that the stones may be red-herrings however whether or not this was true could only be seen if his teammates managed to listen to him.

Iwane for now was looking over at their cooperation noting that most of them were simply bickering and couldn't seem to agree on how to best the situation that they now found themselves in. Which was rather unfortunate for the most part. "This team just can't seem to cooperate, but at least they seem to be on the right track of figuring everything out, here's hoping that Takigakure participant doesn't cause another scene." during this time it would seem that Fukase simply didn't budge and poor Sadako must've been frozen in fear by the traumatizing events involving Hotarubi?

The screaming Taki psycho said something else to her, but Sadako had stopped listening after she got her stone on her scale; her eyes glazed over, staring at nothing.

She rubbed the deadly piece of paper between her fingers.

She listened to the roar of her heartbeat, her rushing blood, the knotted weight that twisted and growled in her gut. She considered Junichi, small and furious and frustrated; she considered herself, on the back foot, her mouth dry and sweat trickling down the nape of her neck.

Fear.

Sadako felt afraid.

This made her angry.

Normally, her rage exploded outward, the white-hot swing of an iron bar forged in cruelty and violence. Volcanic.

Instead, now, Sadako was cold, and all of that bitter, righteous fury, all of her hatred: it turned inward, and it sank.

Without speaking, without hardly thinking, she moved to help Junichi get the stones onto the necessary scales; and then, after the hint was revealed, she stepped up onto her own. Zero-six-one.

She waited in silence, the explosive note growing damp between her clammy fingers.

Read from left to right... That was just a hint about how to solve the weight puzzle, which they'd already done! Does that mean if everyone had listened to him and Narihira like fifteen minutes ago and all got on their scales, they could've been out of here already? That Junichi had over-complicated it just now when trying the stones? And if he'd done the stupid thing and listened to Hotarubi instead of trying the stones, they'd be out now? Ugh!

Junichi was just getting more and more steaming cranky about all of this, but he was doing his very best to be mature and not throw a fit about it.

No point saying anything about it or making this take longer. With Sadako's help, Junichi would make sure all the stones were off the scales and every person got on their proper scale to finish up the puzzle and open the way out.

Hopefully that would be the end of it and they wouldn't need to try to coordinate more. If they had to work together for even more than this, they'd definitely be out of the running. Not that Junichi would complain! He really felt like no one in this room had yet earned their place as a Chuunin considering their performance, himself included.
