The Death of Hayashi Ayame
After the assassination of Senju Kouki, the standing Jounin Hanchou, Hayashi Ayame, took over leadership of Konohagakure. Her rule was short and her death was quick. During the visit of Lady Godaime of Kusagakure, a group struck efficiently, putting an end to the leader's life. Speculation was a flurry, with fingers pointed at Kusagakure because of the timing, and Iwagakure because of their long-standing rivalry with the Leaf Village.
Kawa Niko, successor of the lineage of the Hokage, immediately put together a task force of councilors and investigators to uncover the identity of the involved parties, trying to minimize Konoha's international embarrassment. However, when initial results began to point towards involvement of Iwagakure in both the assassination and several insurrections in northern Hi no Kuni, Kawa Niko elected to minimize the investigation for political reasons.
Kumogakure was still in the depths of the plague and had suffered grave financial ruin as a result of closing their borders and Sunagakure was still in the midst of recovering from Iwagakure's raid upon their walls. Many of Konohagakure's resources were being invested in aiding their allied nations, with medical forces and loans supplied. War was costly, and Konohagakure could not afford it with their two strongest allies experiencing financial debilitation. Better to close the book on that chapter of history and move forward.
The attackers went down in history as extremists of unknown origins. The real story was never known.
This has been a mark upon the record of the ANBU and Barrier Corps for years. Recent information pathways have arisen, channels which suggest it might be time to open this book once more.
[Via discussion with village leaders, neither Iwagakure nor Kusagakure were responsible. Involved NPCs may create their own story beyond that so long as this decision is respected!] MISSION TITLE: Terror in the NorthMISSION RANK: BNPC REQUIRED: Required RANDOM MISSION SCENARIO: Disabled PARTICIPANTS:ANBU/Root or Barrier Corps members. DESCRIPTION:After the assassination of Hayashi Ayame, citizens of Himitsu reported earthquakes in the region with an unprecedented frequency, even for a region so prone to them. The earthquakes quickly came to an end, and so too did the investigation into the matter along with Konohagakure's initial search for the assassins. However, the earthquakes have started again recently. One rumble caused the ground beneath a farm to collapse, unveiling a portion of a sinking pit, or perhaps a catacomb. A team has been dispatched to look into the matter and determine what relation, if any, it might have to the death of Hayashi Ayame. MISSION TITLE: Covered Fingers Left No MarkMISSION RANK: ANPC REQUIRED: Required RANDOM MISSION SCENARIO: Disabled PARTICIPANTS:ANBU/Root or Barrier Corps members. REQUIREMENTS:Completion of Terror in the North. DESCRIPTION:Investigation into the collapsing tunnels within Himitsu, as well as the clash with the forces therein, has uncovered some pertinent information about individuals involved with the execution of Hayashi Ayame's assassination. Those who carried out the execution are not, necessarily, the ones who planned and funding it, however. While not many remain, a force has been dispatched to track, detain, and interrogate the suspected assassins; both to obtain their confessions and to find the true source of the order. MISSION TITLE: Winter OverleafMISSION RANK: SNPC REQUIRED: Required RANDOM MISSION SCENARIO: Disabled PARTICIPANTS:ANBU/Root or Barrier Corps members. REQUIREMENTS:Completion of Covered Fingers Left No Mark. DESCRIPTION:Interrogation of the assassins has revealed information about the individuals behind the assassination plot on Hayashi Ayame. The mission is both complicated, yet simple. Bring the guilty to justice. Easier said than done, as the responsible parties must have evidence gathered on them and then must be claimed, preferably alive to stand trial and proper execution, despite being heavily guarded. There will be no room for mistakes, as being caught will mean almost certain imprisonment or death. The Leaf will be forced to plead no relation to the participants if caught, which means there will be no rescue party for failure. |
