I wish you would die

Tending to the children in the Bird Country orphanage was a rather unique experience. When she had a chance to lay low and not worry about potential bounty hunters, village affiliated or not, she could go to the nearest orphanage and attend to the children. Caring, playing, feeding, advising, and providing personalized feedback and conversations to each child. Out of all the children at the main orphanage, the first established building, Hidehiko has an increased liking to Ahma, due to both her kindness and adoption promise. He took to being exceptionally well-behaved with her in contrast to some other kids. He even went far enough to help her in her endeavors, given as much of a mother figure and caretaker she could be, some areas she lacked more so than others given her somewhat still hostile nature. It was still a unique thrill to have a caretaker create beauty out of something so finite as crystals yet know it was those very crystals that fiercely protected both herself and all of those at the orphanage.

As she was helping one of the older girls prepare for their adoption ceremony by braiding her hair into fine curls, Ahma couldn't help but keep a relative pokerface. "Hey. Ahma-senpai? Why do you always look sad?" The question came straight out of the blue and caught the young woman off guard. It was something that the woman actively tried to hide, unbeknownst to her was the fact she suppressed many other emotions with the pokerface. "I don't know what you mean... I'm happy." Ahma simply responded as she continued to do her best to prepare the girl. "Since I'm going to go away, do you mind if I ask some personal questions?" Again, Ahma hesitated on her actions as her mind went into over gear. She gave it some thought before returning to what she was doing, grabbing a comb to add a textured wave to the hair. "Just know for safety of everyone, I can't tell everything but I'll try to give you the best answers, Hikari." As she went back to the combing of the hair, the first wave from Hikari hit. "Why are you always alone? I never seen you with anyone but the other kids." With no hesitation, the young woman responded. "The work I do and what I personally do leaves no room for relationships deeper than coworkers, whether acquaintances or teammates. Outside of that, I don't have the time." Hikari didn't expect Ahma to respond so quickly given her hesitation. But nonetheless, she continued with her prodding. "Why did you start working here?" It was the why of the question that made the answer infinitely more abstract. Again, as if it was rehearsed, Ahma gunfired, "I deeply agree with Hotaru-san's mission, it truly resonates with me and has a great significance to me." Hikari hummed, as if she was pleased by the answer. "What did you do before this?"

Ahma hesitated before rising from her seat. "I saved people... now go on, pick your outfit and we'll start packing." The woman had some rather unpleasant flashbacks and she knew it was best not to answer completely, even though she was certain it was extremely vague.

Ahma is considered one of the generational lucky few who has access to the clan's most cherished ability. The Kekkai Tota, Shōton. Having access to crystal release sets up a wide array of possibilities of possible jutsu to learn and utilize. As with many advanced release abilities, having keys to the vault is only half the battle. Unlike the classic violet Amethyst of other Shōton users, Ahma's Crystals (unless specifically indicated by the jutsu) appear like Onyx in coloration.

Her gift affects her Ninjutsu, allowing her to wield unique, powerful, neigh-impossible to replicate elemental enhancements to her elemental ninjutsu. Her Heavenly Gift also deviates from enhancing all her basic elements to focusing on two, Fūton and Doton. What this means is that inherently, Ahma's doton jutsus can act as a minuscule seismic sense when in active use. Her Fūton becomes harder to see, while it still has a translucent color when applicable, the jutsu overall comes out faster compared to other non-SA-enhanced ninjutsu specialists.

Ahma's Seismic Sense is not a true dedicated sensing ability but instead, a passive effect/bonus of a Doton Jutsu, thus, each Doton Jutsu has this added benefit only when the Doton jutsu is in active use. Not being dedicated nor is it is it fully powerful, the ranges are extremely weak, only serving more as accuracy than true sensing.

Each range* is divided by rank of the Jutsu and behaves conversely than expected. This is due to the concentration of higher ranking jutsus require. This Seismic Sense reads vibrations on the ground and thus cannot sense those above ground or on water.

E-Rank Sensing Range: 90 Meters

Through extraneous training in chakra usage, Ahma has developed an unnatural level of chakra control. While it still isn't perfected, she has learned to efficiently mitigate excess exhaust from the jutsus she casts and how to give the proper input for the desired output, rather than pouring as much as she can and hoping for the best.

This place was dear to him, but his very presence now put it in far more danger than he was comfortable with.

In the shadows he stayed for a time, listening to Ahma speaking to Hikari. A short time after, his figure moved through shadow as if it were water, coming to the staircase that led to his study and office on the second floor. It had been turned over to some of his first orphans, whom he had taught what he could of ninshu to carry on his most humble of legacy. But beyond the office room was his personal quarters, left an enigmatic shrine to the mysterious man.

His door opened, and there were footsteps loud enough that someone might hear them downstairs if they had the keen ears of a shinobi. The room itself was simple. There was a white mat with the crest of SinK on it stitched in red print, although on closer inspection it was not quite the same logo, but an earlier iteration of it that he had imagined in his earlier years. Before it were several berber cushions laying before a floor table. A clay bowl rested on it with old incense waiting for his return.

With his finger he lit the incense before slipping away. Moments later, his form would come forward and rest on the cushion with his legs crossed, a masked face waiting at the door. It was Ahma he expected would investigate the upstairs presence first, and it was Ahma that he wanted to speak with. He took a large scroll from his back and placed it in his lap before him.

Though he waited patiently, he listened to the bittersweet sound of the orphanage livimg on without his presence. Hotaru was proud that it had carried on without him, although he mourned to return to those years of simplicity that he had experienced. To him, this was more home than Konohagakure ever had been.

Silent Killing- As part of his indoctrination into ANBU Hotaru was taught how to use the utmost quiet in his movements. He is able to make his footsteps perfectly silent employ misdirection to get the drop on those he wants to sneak up on more often than not. Sensor type shinobi and those with acute senses of smell are still thorns in his side.

She watched as Hikari got ready, hearing some loud footsteps. Which child is doing that this time? Before Ahma could read into it, Hikari notified Ahma to judge the dress she had put on. "Maybe something a bit more... free-spirited, you're not going to a funeral." Ahma was trying to think who was above them, she couldn't recall who it could possibly be but she needed to find out. "Wear like a blouse and maybe a skirt or try to mimic my lounge clothing, you know, something relaxed but composed... I'll be right back, I have to do something." The woman knew the kids were loud but generally respected noise levels, so maybe something fell and it was just that heavy. To recall every room of every orphanage was a bit too much to even ask of her, she just went with the flow and hoped she could recall all the names to the faces. Ahma left the room and concentrated a little more chakra in her left arm. She was worried that maybe an intruder snuck in without her diligence. So many things raced through her mind, so many possibilities. It was unnerving to think what the best or worst-case scenario was. The young woman did realize that she was admittedly was a bit paranoid after all she had to fend off but what Nukee wasn't?

Both for her sake and that for the orphanage, and in definite cases, where she had to rescue abductees and was forced to choose who would prosper in nirvana and who would return to their personal nirvana. It was definitely odd that someone who was a caretaker had a dark side but what wasn't odd was how much she tried to hide it. Nerves were firing as she slowly walked up the stairs, looking for immediate disturbances. She found one on the far end and it was clear her defensive instincts kicked in first before her rational instincts. She raced towards the masked figure with a hand half crystallized before stopping abruptly. Think Ahma, where are we outside off? "Oh, sorry, everyone's good, everything's fine." Ahma looked at the mask carefully and the dots started connecting. "So it is that bad, huh?" The woman quietly whispered before standing up straight and bowing at the figure before proceeding into the room. She looked at the statue in passing, wondering who it was but it was a passing thought before she noticed Hotaru.

She entered the room, and immediately bowed in respect. "Thank you Hotaru-sama for taking the time to talk to me, I dare not waste your time." She immediately stood up straight and moved to a cushion directly facing him. She kneeled on the cusion before sitting on her legs. Making another small bow before straightening her back again, hand cupped in hand. "To what do I owe the pleasure of this audience?" It always feels like forever since she saw him, consequently, she views him as the divine ruler of Sai no Kawara. Her facial details grew soft, yet, there was still a hint of seriousness as she seemed to be the only one summoned, at least thus far.

"Ahma, it has been some time,” Hotaru said. His monotone voice echoed, the only movement coming from the Uchiha were subtle motions of the mask raising and falling ever so subtly as he spoke. The near motionlessness came to an end when he moved to motion a billow of smoke from the incense away.

Often one to listen and wait, he found himself breaking with his traditional patience. He needed to get the information across here and now, because he had much ground to cover.

"We are leaving these lands,” he told her. "Our presence draws too much attention, and— we have grown tired. My resolve falters.”

Speaking those words felt like a weight off of his chest. He’d created something, but in the end it had gotten over his head, and in the end Hotaru never saw himself as a leader. The Uchiha was supposed to rendezvous with his sister, and they had arranged passage to lands far beyond the influence of the great shinobi nations. That was, as long as she stuck to the plan. No, he had to believe that Kazui would come despite her reservations. It meant a second chance at life for them where he could truly lay down his arms and live in peace. But it wasn’t the only reason.

"I am ill,” he said. He pulled at his vestments to reveal a part of his chest under his neck that was covered in surgical scars. Around it there were masses of tumorous flesh that still required treatment, and it seemed as if he had been operating on himself repeatedly in the same location. "I cannot go live out my days in peace with the job undone, unless I pass this burden on to a worthy predecessor.”

He closed his eyes, and pushed the summoning contract of the organization from the place in his lap to the kunoichi. "You have been the most responsible member, and I believe I can trust you with growing it into something more,” Hotaru said. "Is that something you are willing to do, Ahma?”

Some time was definitely an understatement but Ahma knew she was part of the reason things have been so hard. She was never still long enough, she saw more field and recovery action than Hotaru did. Yet, despite her rescues and attempts to sway others to their cause, she saw the man as more of a hero due to the fact he built this organization with a dream, with a hope unlike any other she had seen. He gave even Ahma a reason to try and help more people than exclusively kidnapped men and women. Sure, were there obvious parts of Hotaru she had no clue about? Absolutely, and she considered him wearing a mask an odd habit she didn't really expect but quickly brushed off. It was easy to overlook the flaws of your heroes and idols, but your own flaws... well, Ahma still feels regretful of her quick temper at times.

After asking why he called her to meet, he was quick to reply. Stating that they, rather probably he and Kazui needed to lead. "Wha-?" She muttered so quietly but her widened eyes could reveal the news had shocked her. Ahma wanted to say something along the lines of he couldn't leave, that he was too precious to the Organization. The young woman tried so hard to keep herself composed, it was important for her to stay strong and not let words dictate her actions. It was something she learned when she was first taking care of children but there were parts here and there that completely caught her off-guard, those words from Hotaru was just a perfect example. Ahma couldn't believe them, it felt so surreal, it felt almost like a betrayal, yet, it was real. When he started to give a reason, that he was ill, she worried it was grim if he brought it up.

He moved to show her a sight that was just horrific. Before he could speak, a somber and tearful murmur came from Ahma. "Who could replace you?" She saw Hotaru in such a high light for trusting her so early on to even invite her. She didn't even want to imagine what would happen to the orphanages, to the kids, to the lobbying. She rattled her mind if maybe she met someone who could heal him, but she knew no one, she wasn't even sure if Benjiro could and he was the best medic the organization had. It seemed hopeless to the point Ahma was covering her mouth, physically trying to hold back the sobs. He spoke about he cannot live on with a job undone, that the organization will live with a worthy successor. Her immediate thoughts was Kazui until she remembered she might be part of the we. Her thoughts returned to Benjiro but she doesn't remember seeing him lately.

She was running out of ideas until he pulled out a contract and slid it over to her. Ahma became still like a deer in headlights when he stated the why and asking if she could take up the mantle. She took a few seconds before bringing her tear-ridden hand down. She tried and tried to stay as strong and composed as possible but it was so very hard. She nodded her head, trying to slow her breathing. "I will see to it, your dream is accomplished... I am unfathomably honored, Uchiha-Sama." She bowed where she sat for a good minute before raising herself and wiped the tears from her eyes. She nodded once more. "I will do everything in my power to make Sai no Kawara the greatest, respectable, and reputable organization it should be. I will see to it that villages change their way. You can trust me, I'd rather die than let you or your dream down so I will guard and grow them with my life." Ahma bowed once more. "Know regardless of your needs, there will always be a room available for you, for our creator and hero. Even if you may need to take the top bunk bed." Ahma stated with possibly the weakest smile, trying to joke a walk through the sorrow.

He smiled warmly at the light hearted offer, but didn’t offer any sly exchange of banter. Hotaru gave pause for a moment, and took a deep breath.

"Then I pronounce you my successor as judge of Sai no Kawara,” Hotaru said. "With that, you are the inheritor of this contract. Do with it what you see fit.”

There were many more things that he wanted to say or could say, but no spoken words that would make the burden he placed on her easier. His thoughts turned to the pain that was coursing through his body, and was reminded that he needed to apply more medication to relieve himself.

"Be cautious, and do not be quick to trust the words of shinobi, even those who cast aside their village as we have,” he said as a final word of advice. "Not all who abandon such places do so for noble reasons, and you should consider compartmentalizing information until you trust them completely.”

The Konohagakure nukenin stood up and bowed to Ahma with his hands tucked beneath his sleeves, but beneath those lengthy sleeves he formed hand seals. As gentle and short on words as he had always been, the Uchiha flickered carefully away and into the shadows before slipping away silently. Leaving Ahma alone to face her new task.

Hope of crossing the river and the sea alongside his sister to end his days without the burden of hatred was ahead of him. Hotaru had regrets. He hadn’t acted on his feelings for Akatsuki. There wouldn’t be a grand confrontation with Kazuto. He wasn’t leaving the shinobi world changed. But he got a piece of the family he had lost, and sparked a movement that might one day fulfill his goals. Knowing now it may take many generations of work, he felt less guilt. SinK was the future, and those who tended to it now would not taste the fruits of their labor, but they would continue to press on because of love and hope.

A Change Has to Come

At least she was able to evoke a smile from Hotaru, it was brief but it would practically be distasteful if it was to be pushed. This moment had such an increase in seriousness due to Hotaru basically saying he was going to die and he gave no outlook of recovery. Ahma hoped that maybe a fix, a cure, research, a jutsu, something can save him. But as much as she wanted to help him get better, that wouldn't do anything to the fatigue he was feeling. Ahma knew that if he was able of starting a functional organization of his own will, then that same will wouldn't be easily dissuaded. In her eyes, this felt like a painful goodbye than a formal exchange of responsibilities. Upon verbal confirmation that Ahma will be the new judge of Sai no Kawara, she made a slight bow of respect as he pushed a contract scroll across the table.

She wished to see what he was truly feeling under his mask, but it remained best if that struggle was entirely avoided. He did give her a warning, technically it was a suggestion, but the weight of his words were more prominent to Ahma than others. She nodded along as her thoughts floated onto that boy of Kusa. She had high hopes she was able to lobby Kojirō to their cause, but he still had much to grow. She was cautious to never indicate where any of them operated nor any key locations. So she was still keeping him at arm's length, but that hand was holding a knife to his neck. Ahma nodded again, slower as if to indicate she was really focused on engraving these words to her head. The warning also applied to people who are greatly like them, stating that not all were of more noble causes. And if he found Ahma when she was younger, there was a decent chance they wouldn't be seeing eye to eye or so she thought, missing the big similarities of her past and present self.

The woman looked up to Hotaru as he proceeded to rise and bow, and she bowed her head, choosing to remain seated to contemplate the next movement forward. Before she could say any words, it felt like his presence escaped her. She didn't know how or when to tell the others. She just knew action was needed. She needed to map out safe construction zones. Which nations could be agreeable to their cause? Which next village to populate, or even which country was safe? She didn't know what the best course was. But right now, more than ever she needed more men and tools at the ready. She brought her thumb to her teeth and bit hard enough to pierce the skin and draw blood, drawing the Kanji of her name on the paper.

She wasn't going the let him down as she walked out of Hotaru's room to her own. Opening the closet, she threw on the signature cloak of Sai no Kawara. There was no rest for those who traveled the riverbed of the underworld, and so neither will the Hachisuka.

Each range* is divided by rank of the Jutsu and behaves conversely than expected. This is due to the concentration of higher ranking jutsus require. This Seismic Sense reads vibrations on the ground and thus cannot sense those above ground or on water.

C-Rank Sensing Range: 60 Meters

B-Rank Sensing Range: 45 Meters

A-Rank Sensing Range: 30 Meters

Unique Seal Adaptation
Every Tenchi clan member is taught unique handseals and instead, prayer gestures and sutras for Jutsu, Ahma is no different to this. As such she is considered an advanced level sealist [re: Handseals] in the art. This does not grant her speed in the hand seals of common ninjutsu, rather she has an edge in the delivery of her clan's specialized jutsu.

Fine like Jade
Through extraneous training in chakra usage, Ahma has developed an unnatural level of chakra control. While it still isn't perfected, she has learned to efficiently mitigate excess exhaust from the jutsus she casts and how to give the proper input for the desired output, rather than pouring as much as she can and hoping for the best.
