Touwa belonged to the Araikettei bloodline, a lineage deeply ingrained with katana skills, thanks to his mother's efforts. Recently, he had crafted his own lifeblade, Ruiteki, although he still grappled with understanding its unconventional nature. Nonetheless, Touwa cherished and cared for it with utmost diligence.

While he navigated the learning curve of wielding Ruiteki, Touwa remained steadfast in his practice with a "regular" katana. At the Academy, he would observe seasoned ninjas engage in astonishing feats, awestruck by their strength, agility, and above all, their mastery of weapons, especially the katana. Though indifferent towards others, Touwa couldn't help but feel unsettled that individuals inferior to him possessed greater skills.

One bright morning, Touwa rose early, careful not to disturb his familiar, Kuro, a slumbering black cat by his side. He attempted to prepare without rousing Kuro, but the feline's ear twitched, while Kuro himself remained unperturbed. Touwa mused to himself, realizing that Kuro wouldn't be joining him. He strapped on his small wooden training sword and made his way to the outskirts of the village, where a tranquil training ground awaited. Towering trees enveloped the area, their branches stretching toward the sky.

Approaching the training ground, Touwa inhaled deeply, ready to channel his energy and refine his skills. Positioned at the center, he briefly closed his eyes, banishing distractions from his mind. He visualized the graceful and precise movements he had witnessed from others. Renewed with determination, he opened his eyes and began to move.

Regardless, Touwa and his Life Blade are inextricably linked to life and death. When one dies, the other dies, and thus anyone who is not Touwa is unable to wield the weapon.

Narihira enjoyed being back home. As much as he enjoyed the field trip to Tsuchi no Kuni for the Chunin Exams, he had missed the green of the trees, the sounds of animals, and even the sticky humidity that surrounded his Village. Kuwana had been too rocky and barren for a forest-grown boy like him.

It was bright and early, the sun just beginning to peek through the canopy, and Nari was awake and heading for the training grounds. The boy had done well in the Exams, very well, but he didn’t want that to make him become complacent. He wanted to make sure his skills with Hisuiyuri remained sharp and that meant continued training.

But, as he approached his preferred training area, he saw that it was already occupied. That wasn’t a surprise, it was technically a public space, what was a surprise was that the occupant was Touwa, one of Nari’s cousins. Distant cousin, but still a cousin.

Landing on a nearby tree, the older boy watched to see what the boy was up to. Practicing with a katana, by the looks of it, going through the motions of wielding it. A pulse of confused indignation came from Hisuiyuri, wondering why the boy was neglecting his Life Blade, but Nari shushed the spear.

Instead, he jumped down from the tree, bouncing lightly on his toes, and decided to approach the child. "Hi Touwa-kun!" he called out from the edge of the area with a wave. "Whatch’ya up to?"

  『Life Blade Chakra』As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.[break][break]
  『Flying Jades』Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

  Narihira coats Hisuiyuri's Jade Daggers in fūton-infused chakra greatly increasing their cutting power and speed. The daggers are now capable of seamlessly cutting deep gouges into rock and iron and move much quicker, easily outpacing shinobi that haven't trained in physical specialties such as taijutsu and bukijutsu.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Acrodancer』[break]
  Training has granted Narihira impeccable control over his body and muscles, to the point that he appears as if he might be dancing around his opponents with ease. Whether spinning around in close combat, leaping up over an attack, or flipping out the way, Narihira's gymnastics make him a slippery foe that few have hopes of landing a hit upon.

Touwa's concentration was momentarily broken by the cheerful voice that called out his name. He turned his head to find Narihira, his distant cousin, standing at the edge of the training area. Touwa hoped he had not remembered their relationship wrongly, as he remembered seeing the other male only a few times and even then from a great distance.

"Hello,” Touwa greeted with a nod, lowering his wooden training sword. His expression remained stoic, neither overly friendly nor icy cold. Narihira, though not a member of the Tokonatsu clan, was an older distant relative. Despite this, the young boy understood the importance of maintaining composure, especially when interacting with individuals who shared some connection with him.

"I am practicing my katana techniques," Touwa answered, his voice steady and measured. "Is there something I can assist you with, Narihira-san?" Touwa asked, his tone polite but tinged with a hint of curiosity and caution. He was genuinely interested in understanding why his distant cousin had approached him, especially since they hadn't had much interaction in the past. Perhaps there was a purpose behind this encounter, or maybe it was merely a chance meeting. Either way, Touwa was prepared to adapt to the situation and respond accordingly.

Cousin or not, Nari wasn’t particularly close to Touwa, so he had no idea how the boy would react to him interrupting his training session. It was a pretty typical reaction. The younger seemed to be trying to maintain a bit of respect for the elder boy, but Nari could hear the tinge of irritation.

He shifted his weight to one foot, balancing while using the other foot to scratch the back of his calf as he listened to Touwa’s answer.

"Oh, I see," Nari stroked his hand along his jaw all sage-like, like he had a beard or something. "That’s good. That’s good."

The kid was pretty reserved from Nari’s standpoint. Probably didn’t want anything to do with the older boy and to just get back to his training...not that realizing that deterred Narihira any. "No, nothing needed," he said, "I was just hoping to get some training in too and saw you here. Got curious."

He reached back and pulled Hisuiyuri from its holster on his back. "Would you mind if I joined you? I’ve always found training to be more fun with another person rather than a training dummy."

Nari really did prefer training with a partner, but he was putting the choice in Touwa’s court. He’d acquiesce and go somewhere else if the boy had his heart set on a day of solo training.

Nari broke out into a full grin, bouncing on his toes at the positive response. He was excited to start another bout of training and was happy the boy had agreed to go along with him. The grin did turn into a small grimace at Touwa’s use of an honorific.

"You can just call me Nari, if you want, Touwa," he said. It may have been proper, with Nari being the elder and all, but it always left a sour taste in his mouth.

Touwa started looking around the area, Nari assumed to find a better spot than the little area he had been training at. He used one hand to twirl Hisuiyuri in a lazy circle as he waited, his own eyes glancing over the open training areas.

He nodded at the offered space. "Yeah, that’ll work real nice."

He twirled gracefully on his toes and hopped forward to the designated grounds. Plenty open and no one to get in the way of whatever the two buki users got up to. Nari spun Hisuiyuri some more, warming up his limbs and showing off a bit. "So what’re we working on? Simple drills? Sparring? I’m up for anything."

  『Life Blade Chakra』As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.[break][break]
  『Flying Jades』Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

  Narihira coats Hisuiyuri's Jade Daggers in fūton-infused chakra greatly increasing their cutting power and speed. The daggers are now capable of seamlessly cutting deep gouges into rock and iron and move much quicker, easily outpacing shinobi that haven't trained in physical specialties such as taijutsu and bukijutsu.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

  Training has granted Narihira impeccable control over his body and muscles, to the point that he appears as if he might be dancing around his opponents with ease. Whether spinning around in close combat, leaping up over an attack, or flipping out the way, Narihira's gymnastics make him a slippery foe that few have hopes of landing a hit upon.

Touwa normally wouldn't ask for mercy, but the disparity between a wooden sword and a fully matured Lifeblade was too vast. He hoped Narihira would consider this and control the sturdiness and sharpness of his spear, perhaps turning it into a valuable training opportunity for Narihira as well—a chance to adjust his Lifeblade's properties.

Stepping back into a ready stance, Touwa fixed his gaze on Narihira, awaiting his cousin's response. He was eager to engage in an energetic exchange of techniques and ideas, determined to make the most of their training session.

Regardless, Touwa and his Life Blade are inextricably linked to life and death. When one dies, the other dies, and thus anyone who is not Touwa is unable to wield the weapon.

Simple drills. He could do simple drills. He finished spinning Hisuiyuri, letting it stop, blade side down. "No worries, Touwa-kun, we can hold back." Nari shifted his feet so he was in his normal starting stance, feet shoulder length apart and spear pointed downwards, shaft running up along his arm.

He’d make sure not to let the spear destroy the boy’s wooden sword. Sure, they were easily replaceable, but since he had been asked to (in not so many words) chill, he’d chill. It would be a good practice in self-control.

"Let’s have a little fun, and see if you can block a few strikes?" he bounced on his toes, shifting his hold on the spear.

While he was usually one to wait and react to his opponents, Nari moved forward then, not moving at his full speed, but still pretty fast. Once in the range of the young boy, he swung his arm forward and aimed a simple upwards sweep at Touwa’s sword. He made sure to shift Hisuiyuri so that the flat of the spear’s blade would be the only thing to strike instead of the sharp edges.

Strike or not, Nari would shift towards the left and grab the bottom of the spear’s handle to shift into an overhand swap and bring the spear back down for Touwa to either block or move out of the way from.

It was just a couple of simple strikes, some of Nari’s favorite go-tos, and it would allow him to judge how Touwa would react and get a read on his strategies.

Instead of attempting to block the second strike head-on, he opted to step back, creating distance between himself and the spear's trajectory. The first attack didn’t strike the boy, not that it was really supposed to, but Nari was pleased at Touwa’s agility. Before he could get his second swing in, the smaller boy moved forward to try and take advantage of the small opening between the strikes. It made Nari give a small noise of surprise, but using his own speed and the increased distance between them thanks to Hisuiyuri’s length, he planted a foot swiveled out of the wooden sword’s path.

Nari’s movements had always been fluid and he had become even better at practically dancing around the field of battle during the Chunin Exams. Even at close range, Touwa was gonna have a tough time getting a strike in on the older boy.

His grin didn’t falter in the slightest as he completed his spin, letting the spear roll across his shoulders so he could grab it at a different angle and plant the butt of the spear into the ground. Using Hisuiyuri as a lever, Nari pulled himself around and into a kick, aiming it at Touwa to dodge.

If the motion would be completed, Nari would have his upper body follow the path of his lower half and swing the spear in a large arc to either smack the kid with the flat of the blade or force him back. Keeping the distance was an important part for Nari’s way of fighting. It kept him safe from harm, but also allowed him to strike out with his spear without any detriment to his movements.

But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

Nari landed from his spin as Touwa expertly dodged out of the way of the kick. The kid was much more agile than Nari had anticipated, but that just meant that the training session was all the more fun for the both of them. He let out a laugh as Touwa backed away from his sweep only to immediately lunge forwards. It was a little surprising, but thanks to the angle Hisuiyuri was already in, thanks to the previous sweep, it was easy to raise the spear and block the wooden sword with the shaft.

The kid was good at dodging, but Nari thought that there was more to it than that. He was reading his movements. He was a little disappointed in himself for being so easy to read, but impressed that Touwa had picked up on the patterns so quickly. Welp, only one thing to do. Time to change things up.

Using his strength, Nari shoved back on the spear to try and make Touwa back up. Then, this time, he would close the gap by rushing forward. The older boy would feint left, bringing Hisuiyuri up like he was going to make another sweep attack. But then, with a flick of his elbow, he would suddenly flip the spear over his neck and come in with a swing from the right.

He would continue the onslaught by bringing the spear up for an overhand strike, but would instead let the spear fall back over his shoulder where he would catch it from behind with one hand and swing an underhanded strike instead.

A bunch of switcheroos to test Touwa and see how the kid adapted. Also, Nari wanted to see if he could get out of being predictable and change things up when he needed to.

The younger boy was definitely reflexively and mentally quick. He was keeping up with Nari really well, reading his movements and reacting to when he changed things up. Honestly, Nari couldn’t be more proud of his little cousin and he was expecting great things in the future from the kid. But for now, Nari needed to take the kid down a notch. It would be pretty embarrassing if he let an Academy Student get the upper hand, even in a friendly sparring match.

With each of the strikes Touwa would aim at him, Nari would twist Hisuiyuri to meet them. He countered and twisted and danced out of the wooden sword’s path. Nari couldn’t allow any openings, even though this was just practice. Touwa was getting tired, Nari could see. Which made sense, they had been going at it pretty hard for a while now. Nari was also getting a little tired, but probably nowhere near the level of tiredness that Touwa was at.

"Good, I’d be disappointed if you were," he said, grinning at the excitement in Touwa’s voice, when the boy voiced that he still had more up his sleeve.

Touwa did several little moves trying to strike Nari’s hands to get him to drop the spear, Nari countered by letting the hand holding nearest the butt of the spear go, allowing the wooden sword to skid down along the shaft instead of finding purchase until it would hook on the crystal jades near the top of the spear, at the base of the blade.

Then, twisting his wrist, spun the spear around and around, trying to twist the sword so Touwa would have no choice but to release the sword or get his wrist wrenched. He would pull back, lifting the spear up as he went, still trying to disarm the boy and opening up the gap in between them a bit more. If he managed to pull the sword free, he would spin the spear around and aim to smack the boy with the flat of the blade.

Nari pulled back and lunged forward again. And again. And again. Several sharp jabs, all with the flat of the blade, so as not to harm the boy, but wanting to get one strike in before exhaustion settled in and they called the match.

He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

  Training has granted Narihira impeccable control over his body and muscles, to the point that he appears as if he might be dancing around his opponents with ease. Whether spinning around in close combat, leaping up over an attack, or flipping out the way, Narihira's gymnastics make him a slippery foe that few have hopes of landing a hit upon.

Touwa's determination and resolve were admirable, but the relentless sparring had taken its toll. As he lunged forward with the intention of striking Narihira's midsection, his body felt heavy, and his limbs sluggish. Narihira, ever vigilant and experienced, saw the opportunity and smoothly sidestepped the attack.

With deft precision, Narihira's spear gently but firmly tapped Touwa's side, a mock hit that indicated victory. Touwa stumbled, his energy drained, and his breaths ragged. The exhilaration he had felt just moments ago was replaced by a deep sense of fatigue.

Realizing he couldn't continue, Touwa took a few unsteady steps back, his wooden katana slipping from his grasp. His legs gave way beneath him, and he collapsed into a seated position on the training ground. Beads of sweat glistened on his forehead as he tried to catch his breath, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

As Touwa caught his breath, he couldn't help but admire the seamless teamwork Hisuiyuri and Narihira had displayed throughout their sparring session. He looked up at Narihira with a mixture of exhaustion and appreciation. "I lose. Nari-san, your coordination with Hisuiyuri is very impressive," he admitted, a tone of admiration in his voice. "It's like Hisuiyuri is an extension of your arm."

Still catching his breath but eager to continue their conversation. "I can see that. It's a level of synergy that I hope Ruiteki and I can achieve someday. Watching you and Hisuiyuri work together like that makes me wonder if we'll ever reach such harmony. Especially since his shape is on the unique side." A small sight escaped Touwa's lips, of course, he felt proud to be Ruiteki's owner and would not exchange him for anything, but sometimes he did wish Ruiteki's shape had formed to be something more... common for a Life Blade.

The Araikettei clan's KKG allows the user to obtain and wield the Life Blade - Ruiteki. The blade has its own consciousness and is capable of acting on its own. Regardless, Touwa and his Life Blade are inextricably linked to life and death. When one dies, the other dies, and thus anyone who is not Touwa is unable to wield the weapon.
