[attr="class","carvetext"]The Enomoto general store welcomed the sunlight through the lattice above its entryway. Smells of lacquer greeted Io. Although he was a traveler through and through, there was some comfort in the scent of a place that brought back fond childhood memories. Kyonosuke’s family owned the shop, and it felt right to spend his money here. Even if it meant Ema might glare at him if she was at the counter. Even if she teased him about needing to get more soap. She’d once been someone he longed to know, but he acted like a fool trying to get her attention when he was younger, and it didn’t seem like she was going to forget it.
Ema’s garden was attached to the shop by a side door that was partially ajar. It led into a walled area rowed and rowed with garden plots that were full of vibrant flowers and herbs of every arrangement. Her products stocked the shelves of the store, along with those that her father bought wholesale for trade. Among the shelves were even familiar mushrooms grown by none other than Io’s own mother. That’s how he came to meet the Enomoto many years ago, after all.
Io wasn’t alone browsing the shelves of the store. There was a man in his forties with a scraggly beard wearing a sleeveless shirt sifting through bottles of pain reliever, while a dark haired little girl stood at his side holding onto a brown rabbit the size of a small dog that wiggled its nose at the curios scents around it. The wanderer looked at the critter with a pink bow for a moment before the child noticed and frowned at him. He wasn’t sure if pets were allowed in the store, but he decided it best to leave it alone.
As Io loaded the basket in his hands with a few insect repellents, he heard a clicking sound that went on for a few moments. Looking over, he saw the child was sifting through some decorative stones, and left the rabbit on the floor. He blinked, and by the time his eyes opened, the rabbit had darted for the door to the garden.
"Ah, wait!” Io cried. He rushed towards the door reaching to scoop the creature up, but arrived as its fluffy tail wiggled through a small opening.
Not wanting to delay and risk Ema’s stock getting destroyed, Io swung the door to the garden open and rushed inside. The wise rabbit had moved to keep out of sight as it entered, moving into the thickets of leaves so that it could munch incognito.
So what Ema would see as she was tending to her garden is Io busting in at a breakneck pace before stopping dead in his tracks as he made eye contact with her.
"Uhh— there’s a rabbit in here,” he explained.
