Under normal circumstances, Sora preferred to avoid confrontations with her fellow Shinobi of Kirigakure. She had, in times past, learned that getting into fights with the people you were supposed to work with tended to have a negative impact on team performance and productivity. Hurt feelings and grudges could rot the center of a squad, and when the mission was on the line you didn’t want the guy (or girl) who was watching your back to let an enemy through out of spite. But sometimes? Sometimes you just had to beat the shit out of someone to get your point across.

The Chuunin manning the training ground gate had pointed her in the right direction, the weight of her rank enough to silence any dissent he might have as to why the Jounin Sensei of Team One was interested in a Chuunin who had long since passed her Genin days behind. Who, if she was being honest, should have been much, much further along than she was after the showing she’d given at the Exams. But that was why Sora had come.

Because today was one of those rare days where violence was, in fact, the best answer.

"Kasumi Momochi!" Her words came out in a shout the moment she stepped into the Chuunin’s chosen training area, a plot of solid earth meant to simulate the rocky terrain of Iwa, complete with jutting pillars of stone and irregularly shaped boulders. A favorite of those who wanted to work on their stamina… or their Doton ninjutsu. Samidare sat on her hip, snug but ready to draw in a moment, and the sun beat down on her pink hair without mercy, baking the earth beneath her feet until it crunched like paper with every step.

Sora waited until the girl emerged from wherever she had been training before she spoke again, her voice only a hair quieter as she drew her weapon and pointed it at the much, much smaller Kunoichi from afar. No muss. No fuss. No introductions. Straight to business. "You are a fucking disgrace of a Chuunin and I am here to kick your whiny little bitch ass into some semblance of shape.”

There is only one path left to take.

Kasumi had been, in fact, training her stamina at this special course that was designed to replicate Iwa's mountains. She had barely even begun her training when she heard a voice echo across the rocks calling out her name. In the same instant, a devilish smile crawled across her face.

Sensei.

She thought. This wouldn't be the first time that Kyouka had come down to kick some sense into the Chuunin. No, she'd been experiencing this since the day she was put on the team with Kyouka. This was just par for the course, and Kasumi was eager to finally get a win under her belt.

When she jumped out of the rocks, though, she was met with an unfamiliar face that she found.... strange, at least.

"Who in the Hell do you think you are?" She growled out, her left hand now drawing her sword. "Talking to me like that? I thought you'd be Kyouka. Instead I see some... strange old hag in front of me?"

Her smile turned even more sinister at that. Flickers of red chakra flowing off her back now.

"You can try, grandma, but I ain't gonna apologize if I rip you in half instead."

Kasumi has become known for her strange chakara form. When in a dire situation, she is capable of releasing her chakra, which in turn takes a strange color unlike the normal blue color of chakra, and takes the form of a demonic cat figure. She is then enveloped in a demon shroud.

This ability grants her a fierce looking aura, that may come off as intimidating and a tenacity to push beyond their normal limits physically- when this mode is activated, Kasumi is harder to knock out or kill and will generally fight for longer than a normal body is capable of.

Keeping this ability active has a low drain on Kasumi's chakara.

Sora said to the girl once she was finished, her lips quirking up in a tight, almost feral smile as took a half step back and sheathed Samidare, right hand tightening on the hilt. A classic Iaido stance, something even the thickest of Academy Students would recognize… and the absolute worst choice for hitting a person who was outside of your reach. Iai strikes were fast, yes, but they left a person dangerously vulnerable if you missed, which she was bound to do at this distance.

Which was why she had no intentions of staying at this distance.

"Kazesanpo." Before the words had even formed in her mouth, the Jounin pooled Fuuton chakra into her feet, building the pressure in them until, like a bomb, it exploded out the soles of sandals and propelled her forwards faster than most Shinobi could follow. She crossed twenty meters in the blink of an eye, her right hand drawing Samidare from its sheath as she moved, blade flashing up in a perfect arc that would cut through the girl’s neck and decapitate her, all in the span that it took for her to shift from one foot to the other. Iaigiri.

When she stopped her cut, halting its progress and letting Kasumi live, Sora made sure it drew just a little bit of blood.

"And you should know better than to think Kyouka is the only one in this village who can kick your ass."

This lightness allows the user to swing the weapon about with much greater speed for the same amount of physical exertion.

Chakra Conduction
Being Chakra Conductive, Samidare is capable of channeling all types of Chakra for use in Bukijustu, and, more particularly, it has a slight affinity for Raiton chakra thanks to Sora’s constant use of the blade for that purpose. This affinity does not do anything of real note, but it does feel as if the blade were more eager to drink in Raiton Chakra than other types.

The agitating stranger quickly proved to be someone that Kasumi should take seriously. She cleared the gap at speeds that even her old sensei couldn't have imitated, suddenly with her sword pressed into Kasumi's neck. Instead of panicking though, Kasumi's smile would grow ever so slightly. Her Demon's cloak now flaring to life as her drawn sword hit the one against her neck with incredible strength.

"You're pretty fast, I'll say that." Kasumi could admit when she was outclassed, but what she lacked in speed she more than made up for in a few ways. The first and most obvious? Strength. Minami might notice that if her blade was hit by Kasumi's that the demon had an impressive amount of physical strength. "That's all I'll give you credit for for now though. If you want me to admit you can kick my ass you'll have to prove it grandma."

With that, Kasumi would take a jump back. Her free right hand making seals for a jutsu now. Usually Kasumi preferred fighting with a sword, certainly, but with an opponent this fast she'd have to fight some way to close that gap before she could get in close.

Under normal circumstances, Sora would not have used the full scope of her abilities when fighting against a Chuunin from her own village. Not because she didn’t respect her opponent’s abilities, but rather because she didn’t want to leave the poor soul who had to fight her as a heap of severed limbs and trailing guts for the medics to maybe stitch back together later. But this was not a normal circumstance, and Kasumi Momochi was far from the average Chuunin.

So when the girl batted at her Samidare with her blade, the Jounin didn’t bother trying to stop her, instead flowing with the motion and pivoting into it, shifting the momentum of Kasumi’s blade ever so slightly to her right (the girl’s left) while her own remained firmly along the centerline. Chakra poured through her feet once more as the Chuunin leapt back, one hand twisting into a set of seals in preparation for some jutsu… but not fast enough.

Fuuton chakra exploded out of her feet again as she charged the girl, Samidare flashing down in searing left to right downward diagonal that, if it hit, would open a wound from Kasumi’s right shoulder to her left hip only to be followed up by a second swing, mirroring the first so that, if it landed, the girl would be cut damn near in half from the successive slashes.

Kasumi was impressed with the parry that the older girl pulled off- having her own intense training with the blade she knew the difficulty of the timing that had. Then, as expected, the immediate follow up attack as Kasumi tried to make distance. This time the woman seemed even faster than before but instead of panicking Kasumi kept her cool and finished her hand seals.

The jounins sword his Kasumi's jacked, but the fabric itself seemed to absorb much of the blow. It didn't tear when the blade hit it. Instead as the first slash ran across Kasumi's body it only cut a small area of her midriff that was exposed. Kasumi didn't even flinch at the pain.

As the second slash started, Kasumi had finished her hand seals and lightning erupted from her demonic chakra aura. When the second slash had the same effect as the first it left a perfect x of cuts just over Kasumi's belly button.

Her smile grew though, because instead of trying to counter she had waited for the opening at the end of this technique. She'd try for a kick towards her superiors leg now. The strength behind it nothing to scoff at but the lighting radiating possibly even more scary.

Inazuma no Akuma no Manto [Lightning Demon Cloak]
Infusing lightning Chakra with the demonic cloak, the user makes cackling energy radiate off of their demonic chakra. Anyone coming in contact with the demons chakra other than the user- either around the cloak itself or sent off via other demon jutsu techniques, is hit with a lightning shock that causes painful shocks and numbness that will last for two rotations.

Sora felt her cuts ring true, unsurprised that Kasumi had opted to take them rather than try and dodge or block. If it came down to a contest of pure kenjutsu, the Chuunin would lose and, even with just their brief exchange to go off of, the girl had to know that. What surprised her, though, was how little damage they did- two lines, shallow but bleeding, appeared on her stomach, the fabric of her jacket absorbing the force of the Jounin’s blows enough that they only just cut through the skin. Messy and annoying, but not the end of the fight she’d been aiming for. Waruichi fabrics.

A shock, painful and numbing, spread through her arm the moment Kasumi finished her hand seal, Raiton chakra crackling around her cloak as Sora leapt back, barely able to feel her Samidare in her grip. Only years of practice kept the blade in her hand, but she didn’t bother worrying about it- instead, the Jounin moved, chakra flowing into her weapon again as she sheathed it once more and circled Kasumi, jumping from one rock to the next to keep the girl from getting a decent line of sight.

Not because she was worried about what Kasumi could do at this range, but because she didn’t want her to see the hand seals she forced her fingers to form, Raiton chakra pouring into Samidare as she came to a skidding halt some ten meters to the girl’s right, well within range. Forcing her numb hand around Samidare’s hilt, Sora took a half-step back, letting the Raiton chakra build inside her weapons sheath for a brief moment before she drew the blade in a flash of light and speed, the attack scouring through rock and dirt as it tore through terrain like the A ranked Jutsu it was.

"Ittoryu Iai: Shishi Sonson!"

DESCRIPTION: A powerful technique capable of cutting through solid steel like paper, Shishi Sonson coats the users blade from tip to hilt in Raiton Chakra while the user holds it within the saya, building pressure within until the user draws the blade in a flash of extreme speed and power. The ensuing cut extends out quite a bit further from the tip of the blade than normal (up to 15 meters), and is supremely lethal if it connects anywhere vital, though its strength does wane the further out you get, with the leading tip making shallower cuts, while just a meter down it cuts a deep gouge into even sturdy materials.

The technique, like many Iaijutsu, is limited in its use, having to issue out from the side that the user draws their blade from, which makes it predictable. Additionally, the technique takes a brief moment to charge, thus essentially announcing to any informed combatant what the user is about to do, making it impractical for use as anything other than an opening move.

Chakra Conduction
Being Chakra Conductive, Samidare is capable of channeling all types of Chakra for use in Bukijustu, and, more particularly, it has a slight affinity for Raiton chakra thanks to Sora’s constant use of the blade for that purpose. This affinity does not do anything of real note, but it does feel as if the blade were more eager to drink in Raiton Chakra than other types.

Kasumi's plan to numb and weaken the limbs of her opponent seemed to work out alright, but the Demon was hardly foolish enough to think that her skilled opponent wouldn't still have moves. Jumping around the rocks at a high speed to plan something. Kasumi couldn't make out the handseals, but with the sword sheathed again she had to wonder what was next.

When the girl landed about ten meters away, though, the plan seemed obvious to Kasumi. The Demon was hardly a slouch in swordsmanship herself. In fact, compared to most she was an impressive expert with the blade. Seeing this stranger, she was pretty sure she was ever so slightly outclassed here. It didn't mean she didn't find a pattern in the attacks, though.

When Sora once again tried to rush into attack, this time the strike powerful enough to do some serious damage, Kasumi made only one handseal with her free hand. Her opponent would probably recognize this as the body flicker technique. As the attack destroyed rocks and rubble without discrimination where Kasumi was standing, the Demon would appear back where Sora had started with the attack- breathing a little heavy and ragged now.

"You're not half bad you know... what the Hell is your name, anyway?" Of course, talking in the middle of a fight might seem foolish but stamina was far from unlimited and she had a suspicion that both of them were pushing themselves just a bit here. At least for a spar with an ally, that was. "And why do you even give a shit about me, eh?"

Yeah, I’d get the hell out of the way too. Sora thought as Kasumi formed a single, very familiar, hand seal and vanished in a blur of speed the moment before her Iai struck. Shishi Sonson was a brutal technique, even if it was predictable to a skilled opponent, and the destruction the Raiton blade left in its wake was proof enough; boulders adjacent to her swipe were scorched and burnt by the sheer heat of the lightning, the rocks in its direct path cleaving in twain as it tore through everything it touched. A true A-ranked technique, something few Shinobi could face head on… not and live, anyway.

"You really don’t remember?" The Jounin asked, frowning as she brought Samidare back into stance, holding it one-handed to match the Chuunin’s method of fighting. It wasn’t a proper style, but she could tell the girl had worked on it, refined it to the point that it was almost as polished as a real school of swordsmanship- like a modified Ittoryu, with a focus on strength rather than speed. "I taught you at the Academy. Advanced Bukijutsu? Minami-sensei?"

Of course, the girl had spent most of her time with Asuka, the other instructor for that year -half the students had, after all- but the idea that she didn’t even remember her was… annoying. Still, whether the girl remembered her or not, she had a reason for being here beyond a bit of sparring. "And as for why I care… well. You might not remember me, but I remember you."

Others had called her a demon, a monster who fought like an animal even at a young age, but Sora had known better. She had promise, true, but it had been promise born of pain, of loss and grief that had been turned both inward and thrust out against any who got too close. And, as the years had gone on, the girl had slowed. Stalled, even. Stopped short of her potential, not out of weakness, but complacency. Because when you lost everyone, even once, it was hard to risk anything ever again- even if it meant falling behind.

"I’m probably the best pure Kenjutsu specialist in the whole damn village, but you can follow me. Half the Seven Swords can’t even claim that, and you’re younger than most of them! You had promise, Kasumi. Hell, you still do." Sora said, her annoyance showing as she raised her sword into a high stance, ready for the next exchange. "I’m here to fucking remind you of that. Forcibly, if need be."

Minami. That was this strangers name. Though the declaration that she was one of Kasumi's teachers was met with a suspicious squint. She looked the lady up and down slowly, eyes still narrowed for the sharp inquisition. Reaching deep into her memories for the image of her swordsmanship teacher.

"I like to think I'd remember you if you were my teacher. My teacher was tall. And attractive. Definitely not so old, too." Though, if Kasumi was honest speed and frontal attacks were something she remembered being taught a lot of in the academy. "...are you sure you taught me?"

Now doubting her own memories, she would straighten her back. Dropping her complete aggressive stance, though far from lowering her guard as she took a step closer. She scratched her head as she looked ever closer at the woman.

"I really thought my teachers name was Minamoto-sensei too. Never mind. It doesn't matter who you are. You think I'm slowing down, eh?" Kasumi wasn't above accepting the fact that she had, again, founder herself in a rut. "I'll have to do something to live up to my promise then. It's not the first time I got distracted practicing alone, you know."

She'd spit to the side, sheathing her sword now and making it clear she was ready to call it quits on the spar. After all, she had done an entire endurance training before this little spat even started.

"You know, there was a time I really wanted to be on that Seven Swordsmans thing. Seems a little lame now. I want a cooler sword than the ones they have. Oi, where'd you get yours?"

"Right…" Sora said, trailing off as Kasumi spoke. The girl clearly had her memories mixed up, and wasn’t thinking too hard about certain things. The comments about her age and attractiveness slid off her (anyone who walked around in a bikini top didn’t get a say in who or what looked good), but then… well. Then Kasumi poked the wrong damn button.

"This sword," she said, lifting Samidare up to eye level as she stared down at the girl, "Was given to me by my sensei, just before he died." Before he killed himself with a suicide jutsu, in truth. A jutsu he would have never needed to use if she hadn’t come back with the team, endangering everyone’s life. The Jounin lowered her blade then, shifting it into a one-handed stance that kept the point between her and the Chuunin.

"My whole team died that day, because I wasn’t strong enough." Sora looked into Kasumi’s face then, her gaze cold and focused as she held her blade ready, waiting. "I wear it as a reminder to never grow complacent. To never forget who died to get me here. Now draw your sword; an enemy ninja won’t care-"

Sora moved then, lunging forward in a quick tsuki, a thrust, aimed at the girl’s neck. It was slower than she could have gone, but not by much; enough that, maybe, Kasumi might get her blade out in time to parry, if she was quick about it.

"-if you’re tired or not!"

Kasumi suffered through the tragic backstory of her teacher, listing how her team died and she felt responsible. Nothing any shinobi hadn't heard before, at least. Kasumi had only one major death in her life, but it was young enough that she did what all children do. Adapted and adjusted her mentality.

"People die every day, Minamoto-sensei." Her voice wasn't cold, but far too casual for the topic. "No need to dwell on it."

Of course the battle wasn't over though. No teacher could get their point across so quickly, it seemed. As the sword launched towards Kasumi, she drew her own in time to land a rather beautiful parry. She put enough force behind it to hopefully buy her a second to counter. Lightning still jumping off of her demonic cloak as she stepped forward.

Kasumi wouldn't use any fancy jutsu or techniques, just the threat of her lightning if the teacher got too close and her own raw talent with a sword.

"You hardly answered my question though. Who made the damned thing? I want one y'know. Heh."

"No one knows." Sora said, her lips twitching in a slight frown as Kasumi parried her thrust with a quick, beautiful draw-cut that sent a shock of energy through her arm. Again. Sora leapt to her right as the Chuunin charged, keeping Samidare up between them despite the numbness in her right arm. She was going to have to do something about that chakra cloak- a few more shocks like that and she wouldn’t be able to hold her sword, let alone fight. "All I know is that my Sensei said it was over three-hundred years old when his master gave it to him." Which put its creation somewhere around the Middle Samurai period, before Shinobi became widespread but after their emergence from the shadows.

Pushing chakra out of her arms with a breath, Sora molded it around Samidare without looking, meeting Kasumi’s counter with her blade, now pulsing with Fuuton chakra. It was a familiar jutsu for the Jounin, though she didn’t use it very often- there were few situations where Hien was more useful than the Sabre technique, but this was one of them. The two blades clashed, chakra fighting against chakra as she withstood the Chuunin’s slash without bending, though she felt the strain of holding back even a simple cut from the girl. Definitely stronger than she looks.

Sora shifted to the left the moment her blade met Kasumi’s, sliding around the Chuunin while maintaining her block, only to dip her blade down and allow the girl’s cut to fall on empty air- and immediately she countered, Samidare flashing down on the girl’s exposed flank with a two-handed cut that would hurt if it landed.

This technique is limited in its use, being utterly useless against ranged attacks.

Perhaps part of her genetics or simply a random quirk of fate, Sora is unnaturally resilient, be it to physical pain or the toils of extended combat. While most Shinobi would collapse in exhaustion at having used all but the smallest sliver of their chakra reserves, she pushes on; while most Shinobi would wilt beneath the weight of sleepless night after sleepless night, she keeps going. This does not mean she does not feel pain/the strain of extended combat, but rather that her threshold for shutting down because of it is far higher than others. To give an example, if she were to be stabbed through her abdomen, she would still feel the pain of the injury, and it would hinder her ability to move/act, but it wouldn’t stop her, whereas a normal ninja might freeze up or shut down from the pain.

Sora is not merely a Kenjutsu specialist- she is a master when it comes to the art of the sword; after over two decades of training, her skills are unrivaled within Kirigakure, falling short only to the Seven Swordsman themselves… some of them, anyway. This mastery allows her a distinct advantage when fighting other Bukijutsu specialists of similar or lesser rank.

Kasumi was hardly surprised when her blow, despite the power behind it, was parried by her opponent. As much as she wished she could pretend that she had another option but as sweat started dripping from her forehead to the Earth below she knew it was the best she could do. Still her eyes tried to follow the counter attack.

She managed just to avoid wincing as the blade hit her back- nearly tearing through the impressive Wariuchi silk that was in her jacket. Even with the blow being absorbed partially with the impressive equipment, she stumbled forward. Pain radiated through her entire body, and if it weren't for the effects of her demonic chakra this fight would definitely be over.

"Not yet..." she grumbled out, mostly to herself rather than her opponent, "can't you bug off, grandma!?"

With a powerful spin, Kasumi would swing around- this time a slash more practiced and coordinated than her last. In fact, a slash she trained relentlessly to learn with the Mizukage himself. Her sword aimed at the center mass of her former sensei with force. The cloak surrounding the Chuunin would clearly start flickering out though. This was obviously a last offense.

Nearly there. Sora thought as her blade hit Kasumi’s back with a thwack, the edge blunted by her jacket but not the impact. The Chuunin stumbled, clearly in pain, her chakra clock flickering as she growled something under her breath, only to whirl about, sword flashing in a wide arc that was far more focused and intentional than her last attack. Even without knowing the specific technique, the Jounin knew it was something the girl had practiced- you didn’t get that level of focused skill without a lot of training behind it.

It wouldn’t be enough though.

Sora brought Samidare back up to block Kasumi’s cut, Hien still blurring through it, and utilized the same technique she had before to shift the path of the blade out of her way even as she stepped into the blow, deflecting the attack up into her blade’s tsuba. Her arms shook from the force of the cut, straining beneath the smaller woman’s attack, but she held it back and, before the girl could follow it up she moved, pressing forwards into a blade lock that would allow her to use her greater height as leverage, pushing the Chuunin a step. Then, when Kasumi’s resistance was at its highest, she pivoted, twisting to her left and allowing momentum and inertia to take its natural course and jerk the unsuspecting girl forwards…

Right into the pommel of her sword, which she sent hammering into Kasumi’s face.

This mastery allows her a distinct advantage when fighting other Bukijutsu specialists of similar or lesser rank.

Beyond being a master of Kenjutsu, Sora has practiced for decades to become the faster swordswoman she can be. As such, her Kenjutsu techniques come out faster and move quicker than those performed by others of her rank.

Unbreakable
Whatever metal and forging process was used in the creation of Samidare, it worked; Samidare is utterly unbreakable by most any means, capable of being engulfed in an S-Rank Jutsu and remaining unscathed. Though it is possible that the blade could potentially be broken by a sufficiently powerful attack (such as, say, a Bijuu-dama), this has never been tested, so it is not known if it would survive.

Sharper Than Your Average Blade
Due to its nature as an unbreakable blade, Samidare bears a cutting edge that is of particular note, which allows it to slice through even steel with little in the way of resistance, so long as the proper force is applied. Additionally, this edge never needs to be resharpened, as it never grows dull or rolls, thus making it perfect for frontline combat.

Light as Spring Rain
Perhaps a quirk of its forging (or perhaps an intentional feature), Samidare is considerably lighter than a blade its size and length ought to be; while this would normally result in a less effective weapon, Samidare loses none of its integrity or cutting power, as it is somehow able to leverage the same amount of force through less mass. This lightness allows the user to swing the weapon about with much greater speed for the same amount of physical exertion.

Chakra Conduction
Being Chakra Conductive, Samidare is capable of channeling all types of Chakra for use in Bukijustu, and, more particularly, it has a slight affinity for Raiton chakra thanks to Sora’s constant use of the blade for that purpose. This affinity does not do anything of real note, but it does feel as if the blade were more eager to drink in Raiton Chakra than other types.
