There was a time limit. Somehow, the two genin had to make a long journey much shorter than it should be.

She had an idea of what they would have to do, But the thought of running the entire journey was daunting, even for her. She knew that the two of them would have to pace themselves but still go fast in order to make their deadline. And, hopefully they wouldn’t run into anything that would slow down their journey.

She was waiting outside the Kage Tower, where they would be given the cargo. When her partner arrived, that is. Matoi was early, she knew, but she thought that getting a head start would be best for this particular journey.

But maybe her partner wasn’t on the same page as she was. Not that it was a huge deal, there was still time left, but Matoi was starting to get antsy.

She took a deep breath and began doing a few squats, swinging her arms back and forth while she crouched down. Something to keep herself busy while she waited.

Having accessed the Clan's hijutsu at a rather young age, she's spent her years learning to master The Storm. She is able to transform part or the entirety of her body using the Divine Lightning Body and is able to pass through objects that are reactive to lightning. Practically the embodiment of lightning, she can use her skills to increase the speed, reactions and fighting capability significantly.

She becomes part of The Storm itself, giving her near immunity to other Raiton-based attacks. The caveat of this is she is incapable of learning any other elemental natures outside of her natural Raiton.

『Purple Lightning』

Having spent several years training her ability in using ninjutsu, specifically Raiton, few of her age has reached the level of mastery she has.

Some may call the element erratic and dangerous, but she has complete control over the bolts of energy she can create. Not only are the raiton techniques which Matoi utilizes much more powerful than standard, they're also a bright purple in color.

Another mission meant another task that Katsuo got to finish and honestly, this seemed to be something he needed to do lately. Burying himself in his work seemed to help to try to get his mind off his brother especially now since he had full control over his prosthetic arm movements. Before he had that to focus on, but now it was just doing missions and other tasks to keep his mind occupied. [break][break]

Today's mission in particular was a simple delivery, but it was a timed one so they would need to do this task fast. This was done in conjunction with his team member Matori who certainly had a better set of skills than him in his mind, but he wasn't going to let her get the best of him if he could try. Who said one couldn't have a friendly competition with a teammate right? Well, he was not the one there first as Matori certainly had a better work ethic than Katsuo did, but at least it meant they could get things started right away.[break][break]

Seeing her stretch made him want to follow suit mostly with his arms and making sure they were limber enough for the task at hand. Approaching her he would ask, "You ready to get this mission started then I assume?" A bit more friendly than he was on a day-to-day basis since he was feeling in good spirits right now. He even had a few ideas on how to shorten the time for their delivery though it would drain him if he wasn't careful so he would need to see what the cargo was before he could determine to use that plan.

She straightened up and gave a small wave in greeting as Katsuo approached, nodding in answer to his question. "Ready as I’ll ever be," she said, slightly muffled by her mask.

She checked the satchel that they had been given to carry the order scrolls in, making sure everything was accounted for and secured. She hoisted the bag up and slung it over her shoulders. It wasn’t that heavy, but it was a cumbersome piece of equipment. Hopefully, it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle as they ran their gauntlet.

Scrolls secure, Matoi bounced on her toes, eager to go. She gestured to Katsuo with a jerk of her head in the direction they were to go and set off. As soon as they passed the gates, she immediately began running. She wasn’t going at her top speed yet, wanting to pace herself so she didn’t tire out right off the bat. But even still, the trees and boulders blurred by as the two genin passed.

Turning her head, she tried to catch Katsuo’s eye. There was a little mischievous glint to her gaze. "Wanna turn this into some sort of training?" she asked. "First one to the bottom of the valley wins?"

They were running down the mountain, currently, so it would be an easy stretch. And a race would be much more interesting than just simply running through the countryside.

[attr="class","ktt-post"]She was ready for the mission which was a nice change of pace for how things were done. Most people wanted to introduce or talk to each other before starting their mission, but not this girl she was ready to get things started. Katsuo couldn't help but appreciate her readiness to get things done especially because it meant he also could get this mission completed quickly. So no complaints here from Katsuo about his teammate.

It wouldn't be long before the two of them would set off to begin their mission quickly leaving the gates of the village. After some time his mission partner would ask if he wanted to make the mission more fun and honestly Katsuo couldn't say no to a little friendly competition. Especially because it would just be an addition to their current mission to make sure they did it promptly. So why not? "Sure," Katsuo would say with a smile on his face something he wasn't the most used to giving to people. Since they would be going downhill he would need to make sure his footing was correct so he didn't fall down the mountainside, but it should be fine. He didn't know if he would win since he didn't know Matoi's skill set, but even if he lost at least it would be a fun experience.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Matoi flashed a quick, confident smirk as Katsuo accepted her challenge, not that he saw it from behind her mask. There was something invigorating about turning a mundane mission into a competitive run; it made the journey go faster and tested their skills in a real-world scenario. She knew well enough that their path was fraught with uneven terrain and hidden roots, perfect for a little high-stakes sprint.

"Great! Let’s see who’s quicker then," she declared, her voice resonating lightly through the dense trees surrounding them.

With the challenge set, Matoi didn't wait for another word; she surged forward, her legs kicking up bits of dirt and leaves in her wake. Her strides were measured, conserving energy for the long haul, yet fast enough to make it an actual race.

As the forest thinned and the mountain's incline began to level out, Matoi glanced over her shoulder to see how Katsuo was holding up.

The terrain was changing, the downward path leading into a rocky, narrow passage that would take them directly into the valley. This was where agility would count as much as speed.

"Watch your step!" she called out to Katsuo, her tone playful.

It reminded both of them that while they were racing, the mission's success - and their safety - remained the priority.

As they neared the bottom of the valley, Matoi felt the rush of warm air against her face. The sunshine and lower altitude made for a more comfortable atmosphere than up on the mountain. The final stretch lay ahead, flat and welcoming. Here was where they could really let loose.

She turned her head to Katsuo again, her expression challenging, eyes crinkling at the corners.

"Ready to sprint?" she asked, the edge of the valley's base in sight.

It was a short distance now, but it would be the fastest and most demanding part of their impromptu race. Whether or not Katsuo accepted the final dash, Matoi was prepared to give it her all.

[attr="class","ktt-post"]One of the issues with his teammate Matoi was her choice of outfit. Not the overall ensemble or anything, but just the fact she wore a face mask that covered her mouth. It made it hard to understand her feelings on situations or read her emotions if she didn't let her eyes do all the heavy lifting. So he wasn't fully sure how she felt about the whole race thing despite her being the one who suggested it. He figured she enjoyed his willingness to race, but it still made him wonder what was going on behind that mask of hers.

The beginning portion of this race was fairly simple with them just trying to get down the mountain and was fairly uneventful for both of them. Matori kept a slight lead over Katsuo as she was the fastest one in this race. Occasionally checking up on him by giving him warnings about the terrain which he appreciated since he was trying his best not to injure another limb. Wouldn't be a good idea to end up losing a leg like he lost his arm now, would it?

With the terrain leveling out leaving them now to the valley where they would be able to push themselves forward it was more apparent this was where the race would truly begin. Even more so when Matoi asked if he was ready to sprint to which he would reply, "Let's do it!" He had an enthusiasm for the race more so because it would simply be a fun experience even if he knew speed wasn't his forte. So even if he lost at least he could have fun with his teammate rather than simply failing and being bitter like he normally was in competitions.

The light-hearted nature of their competition seemed to be just the right touch to keep the energy high and the mission on track. As Katsuo agreed to the sprint, Matoi wasted no time. She pushed off from the ground with renewed vigor, her legs pumping furiously as she raced along the flat valley floor.

The sound of their footsteps echoed off the surrounding hills. The cool breeze of the valley was a welcome relief after the warm sun they had endured on the downhill stretch, and Matoi felt a surge of adrenaline as she neared the finish line - a large, distinctive rock marked on their map as the halfway point to their final destination.

"Come on, Katsuo! Don’t let me win too easily!" Matoi shouted back, her voice laced with a teasing challenge. She knew the importance of teamwork, but at this moment, the thrill of the race seemed to bring out a playful competitiveness in both of them.

As she glanced back, Matoi could see Katsuo not far behind, his own determination clear even from a distance. She admired that sort of gusto.

The path ahead was clear, the scrolls secure on Matoi's back as they bounced with each step. She focused on her breathing, trying to keep it steady despite the exertion. It wasn't just about winning a friendly race; it was about pushing their limits, sharpening their skills under pressure, and delivering the scrolls in record time.

"Ready to finish this?" she asked, tilting her head towards the landmark as they neared the rock. With a final burst of energy, she reached the finish line, turning to see Katsuo's reaction and whether or not he had managed to catch up within the last moments.

[attr="class","ktt-post"]It would take much for the two of them to get into the heat of the race. Pushing forward as fast as both of them could along the path in an attempt to make this mission exciting and fun. It was a nice change of pace for Katsuo who was so used to trying to prove himself better than his twin and being this different person from him that just enjoying himself was always off the table. Everything was a fight for recognition, but here and now it was simply for fun and the biggest smile could be seen on his face not thinking of family expectations.

Much like how the wind blew around them as they ran Katsuo felt free. Free to enjoy life as it was and free to be one with the wind. He even would respond to Matoi's comments about not letting her win by saying, "Sure won't!" A playfulness to his voice that was so different than what he was used to giving and honestly it felt nice. So to prove he wasn't just letting her win he pushed forward as best as he could following her to the finish line hoping he could outpace her.

Yet fate was against him as Matoi would cross the finish line first. An expected result mechanically speaking, but honestly, he was just glad he was able to keep up with her as much as he could. He always relied on his magnetism and prosthetics to do all the heavy lifting so to be able to push himself so hard was a nice change of pace. Taking a breather after reaching the finish line he would say through exasperated breaths, "Had a feeling you would win, but I hope I put up enough of a fight for you."

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]Matoi stood at the finish line, her breath coming in short bursts from the exertion, a thin sheen of sweat gleaming on her forehead. Despite the mask obscuring much of her expression, the gleam in her eyes and the slight tilt of her head conveyed a sense of satisfaction. She watched as Katsuo caught up, noting the genuine happiness emanating from him.

"You definitely kept me on my toes, Katsuo," Matoi responded. "It’s good to push yourself. Makes the race more fun, doesn’t it?"

She leaned forward slightly, resting her hands on her knees as she caught her breath. The surrounding valley was peaceful, the only sounds being their heavy breathing and the distant calls of birds.

"As for the mission," she continued, straightening up and slinging the satchel more securely over her shoulder, "we’re making good time. But we shouldn’t let our guard down."

Matoi’s eyes scanned the landscape ahead. The path from the valley would lead them through a denser forest, known for its tricky terrain and the possibility of wild animals. The playful mood shifted slightly as she focused on the task at hand.

"We should move quickly, we are still racing the clock," she advised. "Keep an eye on the shadows."

With a nod toward Katsuo, indicating they should get moving, Matoi set off again at a brisk pace, her steps light and sure as she navigated the path leading out of the valley. The competitive edge of the race had morphed back into the cooperative spirit necessary for mission success.

Having accessed the Clan's hijutsu at a rather young age, she's spent her years learning to master The Storm. She is able to transform part or the entirety of her body using the Divine Lightning Body and is able to pass through objects that are reactive to lightning. Practically the embodiment of lightning, she can use her skills to increase the speed, reactions and fighting capability significantly.

She becomes part of The Storm itself, giving her near immunity to other Raiton-based attacks. The caveat of this is she is incapable of learning any other elemental natures outside of her natural Raiton.

Having spent several years training her ability in using ninjutsu, specifically Raiton, few of her age has reached the level of mastery she has.

[attr="class","ktt-post"]She seemed to be enjoying herself with her comment about keeping her on her toes and that made Katsuo feel a bit better about his performance. Sure they could have been just simple words of encouragement and not have any actual meaning behind them, but it was still nice. "Within reason," Katsuo would respond to her comments about pushing oneself to make things more fun mostly because he felt if one pushed themselves too hard they might end up hurting themselves more than helping themselves. Too much fun can be a thing and he wasn't about to stop his progress just because he got too distracted by the fun of things.

"Yes let's," Katsuo would say in response to Matoi's comment about being still on the clock and to keep moving. He would also take into account the shadows she mentioned. While it's very possible there wouldn't be anything for them to worry about on this delivery mission it wasn't impossible for something to happen. So he would follow along Matoi's pace keeping her back covered just in case something decided to sneak up on her from behind. The adrenaline from the race slowly lowered into the normal levels of what he had during a mission which meant he was going to be a bit more aware of his surroundings than he was during the race.

[attr="class","lightbluetext"]As Matoi and Katsuo moved deeper into the forest, the path became narrower and more overgrown. The canopy overhead thickened, casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. Matoi’s eyes flicked from side to side, scanning for any potential threats. Despite the earlier light-heartedness, she was fully aware of the importance of their mission and the need to remain vigilant.

The two genin navigated the uneven terrain with practiced ease, their training evident in their fluid movements. Every now and then, Matoi would glance back to ensure Katsuo was keeping pace.

As they neared a particularly dense thicket, she slowed her pace slightly. There was a subtle rustling in the underbrush ahead, and Matoi’s senses sharpened. She stuck a hand out, indicating they should proceed with caution.

"Hold on,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The rustling grew louder, and Matoi’s hand instinctively went to the kunai at her waist. Suddenly, a small group of rabbits burst from the undergrowth, darting across their path. Matoi relaxed slightly, her hand dropping back to her side as she watched the rabbits disappear into the forest.

She turned to Katsuo, a wry smile evident in her eyes. "Oops. False alarm,” she said, her tone lightening again. "Let’s keep moving.”

With the minor distraction behind them, they picked up their pace once more, the urgency of their mission propelling them forward. The dense forest began to thin, and the path widened, leading them toward the outskirts of the capital.

"We’re almost there,” Matoi noted, her eyes fixed on the distant skyline of the capital. "Let’s finish strong.”

[attr="class","ktt-post"]The push into the forest made things a bit more difficult for them as they ran. Not only did they have to keep an eye on their footing they had to keep an eye for any obstacle or threats that may pass their way. So keeping track of the full surroundings would inevitably slow them down and even though they knew there were patrols of other hsinobi along this path it still didn't mean someone couldn't sneak by them. So Katsuo was wary as he followed behind Matoi keeping her back covered in case anyone tried to ambush her.

The sudden noise and sense of movement slowed them down considerably though this instance turned out to be simply a family of rabbits making their way around the forest. A false alarm which was a sigh of relief for Katsuo as his senses went on high alert when Matoi haltered their progression. Though it wouldn't take much for them to continue going Katsuo would respond with a simple, "Let's."

After some time the capital would appear on the skyline and Mataoi would suggest they finish strong to which Katsuo would respond with, "Hell yeah!" And it would be like the beginning of their mission as they would rush forward as fast as they could almost as it was the second leg of the race they had beforehand. Though this wasn't a race this time it would get them closer and closer to the capital until they made it to Sancho.

They would quickly make their way to where the Daiymo was located and deliver the paperwork as requested in their mission and then once done the two of them would head back to Kumogakure to report on their completed mission.
