Suzaku didn't expect himself to return here after his first fight, after the...humilistion involving the pantsing incident. But even if he hadn't mooned an entire audience of people, he still didn't think he'd have returned here, it was everything he didn't like. Loud. Bright. It was a highly stimulating environment where the orange haired boy had to wear sunglasses inside here just to avoid getting a migraine. And yet, the young teen despite everything, despite the embarrassment, the lights, the noise, the very, very energetic people who ran the Thunderdome and wanted you to know just how happy they were to see you, liked it here. It was...fun!

Not to mention it was also challenging for the scruffy haired boy! He didn't really focus on taijutsu on a technical level, so his form was way sloppier than even the younger fighters who focused on the art. The only reason he could keep up at all was because of his sensitive eyes, and how things all but moved in slow motion for him. But despite his inherent disadvantage, he enjoyed it, his anxiety disappearing as he got lost in the moment, worry free and able to work off his stress. And he wasn't in true danger of getting seriously hurt, referees watching over the fights. And so he was here once more, ready to participate. And the Yanki clan member, the one who'd greeted him when he first visited approached him, an excited smile on his face that the shy boy couldn't help but smile back too. It was nice here, and he wondered just who he'd be facing today.

in the arena

Noise, lights, enthusiasm to spare... this was most definitely not his kind of place.

Or at least not the kind that he would find himself in willingly. Aftermath of an argument with a pretentious boy doctor still fresh on his mind the wanderer decided to take a walk. To cool off and to see the sights. As always...

...he stepped light. Minding the sound of his footfalls. Blending in with the crowd as he made his way through Kumogakure. One of the benefits of not having brightly-colored hair or, say, fox ears meant that he was just another face in the rabble. Aside from the sword slung around his left shoulder he looked like any other traveler. Aimless.

Discreet. Though despite how he looked and walked he was certainly here with aims in mind. To find a relative of his whom he had not seen in years. Luck was rarely on his side and so far the search was proving fruitless. Still...

If he was going to be here for any amount of time, he would need ryō. Savings from his time in Amegakure would only last so long. And so he somehow found himself funneled by the ebb of the crowd towards a colleseum of sorts. Memories of a similar sight in Kuwana coming back to him. Fighting for sport. Pay for blood. Entertainment.

Not his preferred line of work by any means. And yet as he skulked about the perimeter someone bumped into him, accidentally shoving him to the front of the mass of people. One of referees pointed an enthusiastic finger to him, then to his sword. Picking him out of the chorus. He looked around at a host of expectant gazes... and sighed.

A shake of his head as was practically pushed into the queue. "Are you watching, Sengo?" He thought to himself... a slight frown crossing as his face after. "I suppose it would not actually matter... since he would likely enjoy this." Battling for money was not honorable, but then, he did not have much use for honor these days. Neither did his half-mad ancestor. Glancing around, he spotted a boy with orange hair wearing sunglasses. Looking a bit apprehensive himself. "At least I am not the only one..." Another internal musing, raising an eyebrow as the boy began to smile.

Well... at least one of them was about to have fun. "Excuse me..." He quietly chimed in as he approached the boy, eyes wandering around to the many onlookers as he neared. "Is this sort of thing normal here?" A question.

To break the ice and perhaps learn a bit more while he was at it. Contrary to any desire of his, he had fought in front of a crowd before. In costume no less. Life was often strange... and it seemed it was about to get even stranger.

YANKI YUTO
CHUUNIN

On Friday evenings the raucous cheering and hollering from the Thunderdome could be heard for miles around: the hollowed-out center of the arena was the perfect conduit for the clan’s shouting techniques, and it amplified the commotion of combat like no other arena.

But this was no rehearsed performance, no. The Yanki believed wholeheartedly in the spirit of bloodsport, and getting in line to the Thunderdome was implicit consent to participate. Most would be spectators, eager for a night of participation, but a young man with an aggressive pompadour stood vigilant by the entrance to the arena, picking combatants out of the throngs of attendees.

Suzaku received the same enthusiastic greeting he’d received on his first visit. "Hey, Suzaku, good to see ya,” Yuto said, giving him a bright smile and a clap on the shoulder as he went through the usual run-down of the rules and regulations.

(There weren’t many, but you could tap out if you needed medical attention, and leadership within Kumogakure had made it clear that deaths within the Thunderdome should be kept to a minimum.)

Yuto singled out another young man with dark hair and a quality-looking sword, refusing to take no for an answer as he ushered the man forward. The crowd assisted, as was good and correct, and Yuto went through the same song and dance with this unfamiliar face. Ranged weapons confiscated, rules and regulations explained, and then off they were shoved into the arena.

"You got this, Suzaku!” Yuto hollered after the pair, his arms crossed proudly across his chest. "HIT ‘EM WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!”

The sudden surge of adrenaline would be a familiar feeling to Suzaku, having experienced it once before—his strikes would be faster than normal, a useful bonus to have in a match against what looked to Yuto’s eye like an experienced foreign swordsman.

LAIKA OF THQ

NAME: Kanpai: Kōgeki [Cheer: Strike]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
SHOUT LINE: "HIT THEM WITH YOUR BEST SHOT!"
RANGE: 25 meters
REQUIREMENTS: Yanki Hijutsu, Chakra Control
DESCRIPTION:
A technique that primarily affects the arms of those that it targets, it invigorates the muscles to cause them to move faster. Increasing the speed at which one can punch and swing a sword. As a fault of this, at the end of [5 rotations] the target who benefited from this effect will tear their arm muscles at the end of the jutsu, effectively slowing their arms movement just as much as it had previously been sped up until healed or given time to heal.

Blood sport. It was such an...ugly term, brutality filled with the worst implications, poisoning everything around it with the idea of savagery. And it wasn't what came to mind to the young teens mind when thinking of this place. For him it was a safe place, the exact opposite of what such a name implied. No one ever died here, at least not that he knew of. Instead of a bloodsport, to the angsty teen that made this place an active part of his routine, it was a place of comfort, a place to relieve stress. A place to have fun, not rip and tear unlucky combatants apart as a spectacle for the masses. Simply something to challenge it's participants, not harm them. And thid viewpoint was the privilege of an unworldly kid raised in a system where fighting was normal.

And another normal part of this was the surrendering of the boys weapons. He still didn't like surrendering his Fuuma shuriken, the only real melee weapon the boy had, able to be folded into one giant blade. But, it was by its very name, a shuriken and unallowed in these hollowed grounds of melee combat. But he didn't whine like he had last time, he didn't complain, and the pat on the back he got as a reward at first startled the boy. He wasn't used to that, physical gestures of friendship, but after the surprise, he looked at the pompadour wearing teen with a look of happiness. He liked it.

And then he'd meet his opponent, and he really wished he had his Fuuma shuriken. Suzaku wasn't quite experienced enough to read his opponent and gauge the messy black haired man's experience. Though he was clearly not inexperienced given he had a sword, something the boy was keeping his eyes on behind the sunglasses the teen was wearing. As for introductions well...Yuto was a lot better at such things then the orange haired teen. While the fighting might help relieve his anxiety, the living in the moment in the arena, this part, the beginning, one could see just how shy he really was. U-Umm...L-Lets have a good match... And with a blush, that'd be that from the teen. And the fighting would begin.

Suzaky wasn't expecting what came next, the boost. He knew what it did, he'd benefitted from it in his very first match here. What he didn't understand was why Yuto had done it, last time he'd done it because his opponent had fought dirty, but this guy hadn't done anything yet. So was this evening the odds? Suzaku didn't have enough experience to gauge his opponents skill by sight, but he read the implications of the situation before him. And so, the teen took full advantage of the boost while he had it, and before the negative side effects hit. He remembered that part too. So he'd rush the messily haired older boy, leaving himself surprisingly open to attack for a ninja, a very aggressive move on his part. Or would the worldly fighter see more to it than simple carelessness?

combatants souls are laid bare

Before the conversation could get too far underway, a shout rang throughout the arena. Cheering on 'Suzaku'... as the activation of some technique pinged in his Sense. "A jutsu?" He thought, looking to the announcer.

From what he could tell that was where it seemed to have come from... yet his apparent opponent's chakra surged slightly in response. "Odd..." The wanderer only furrowed his brow as his weapons were taken, as it severely limited his options. But if this was going to be a 'fair' fight he supposed he might as well hand over his sword too.

Hesitating only slightly before giving away the blade, they were quickly prepped and ushered into the ring. Having little time to exchange pleasantries as the match got underway. "Taijutsu from the beginning... at this rate I will not have any secrets left." A half-annoyed thought as he bent slightly at the knees and threw up a guard. Hands relaxed, right near his waist and his left out in front of him. The young man he was facing off against seemed to blush a little as he spoke, a tinge of nervousness in his voice. Had he said something untoward? "Yes." He said simply. "Let's."

In an instant his opponent dashed at him, closing the distance between surprisingly quickly. "Faster than I expected." A lone thought as he stood his ground and waited. Perhaps due to that technique he felt? Whatever the cause, he remained steeled as Suzaku approached. Speed was something he had in spades too. Once near, he moved in a blur.

First forward in a dash of his own... though it was only a feint. Instead of attacking, he side-stepped the charging Kumo-nin to circle around him with his Suiho. Back in sight, his right foot shot outward to give the youth a light bop on his lower back. Not seeking to injure but to guage how his foe might react to the sudden strike. Reflexes, susceptibility to damage, defenses— all important things to note. Best to test the waters early on than regret it later.

Despite him holding back, it would be clear from his expression and readiness that he was not mocking the youth. It was a dangerous thing to be underestimated... and he knew that better than most. The wanderer would backpedal a few steps before resetting his stance. Preparing himself for any follow-up attacks that might ensue. Watching closely.

OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:
NAME: Suiho [Waning Step]
RANK: C
CHAKRA USAGE: Low
CLASSIFICATION: Taijutsu
DESCRIPTION:
Named after the crescent moon-like shape in which this maneuver mimics, the user dashes towards the target but feints at the last moment, side-stepping around the opponent in an arc to their backside. Once in position they then deliver a crushing punch or kick to the spine. This attack targets a vital area and is able to fracture one's back if enough force is applied.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:

KASHIRA-WARI・首割り - ENHANCED CHAKRA CONTROL
Puppeteers must maintain expert control over their wide selection of puppets, and so too must a shinobi with their chakra. Necessary for his Puppet Ninjutsu and applicable to his other techniques, Uemon has trained extensively in order to mitigate the amount of chakra he uses with his jutsu. Compensating for his average chakra reserves this allows him to stay in the fight that much longer.

TSUKURIMONO・作り物 - INTELLIGENCE
Stage and setting can make or break a performance. A director needs vigilance and flexibility to ensure all the moving parts of a play go off without a hitch. A learned strategist with a quick mind, Uemon is always observing even in the midst of combat. This allows for him to find gaps and weaknesses in his opponent's techniques easier than some, and allows him to formulate strategies and deceptions to take advantage of these shortcomings. A knack for tactics cues him on which approach works best depending on his target.

ASHIZUKAI・足遣い - SPEED
Operating the legs of a puppet requires dexterity and agility. Much like moving one's own body. As a child in Tetsu no Kuni Uemon trained in Jujitsu and Kenjutsu, finding his aptitude for speed rather than strength. Honed after years on the road with his mentors, Uemon is surprisingly light on his feet and his hand-to-hand strikes are faster than most expect. Able to strike and weave with deft swiftness he is capable of holding his own against Taijutsu specialists of his rank and outright overwhelming those of lower ranks in terms of speed.

SHOMEI・署名 - SENSOR TYPE
Lighting is a crucial part of any play. Identifying the actors and drawing focus to them in the dark. With much training Uemon has become a Sensor Type, able to detect and hone in on chakra signatures akin to a sixth sense of sorts. A useful tool when it comes to tracking or surveillance. As of now, he is capable of passively sensing chakra up to one hundred meters from his body, or one kilometer if actively searching. This also allows him to more efficiently utilize his puppets without needing a direct line of sight to his targets. Knowing the placement of actors on stage at all times is essential.

The orange haired teen found himself releasing a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding when he saw the sword be turned in along with most of this new person's gear. Losing his Fuma Shuriken was disappointing, but he always faced taijutsu users so it never felt like it was a huge handicap losing it, if anything it evened things out. But having to face a sword user bare handed, that would be been tough. Actually, that was underselling it, it would've been insanely difficult, so the orange haired youth wasn't too sad to see it go.

Thankfully, the man was a good sport about it, having returned the teens awkward greeting as well. When the scruffy haired teen had had to turn in his Fuma Shuriken the first time, he'd whined and sulked about it for almost five minutes, so already he was doing better in the arena than the young teens first time. However, it wasn't his first time anymore, and he wasn't crying when the fight began, instead rushing his oppenent after getting his boost from Yuto. And, to his surprise, his oppenent ran out to meet him, and the still inexperienced ninja saw just why he'd been boosted right at the start. His opponent was faster, a lot faster. But likely not so fast the boy was overwhelmed and couldn't keep up.

When his opponent broke off for the feint, he'd wouldn't be able to see the eyes following him under the sunglasses, but he would likely see the boys head tilt slightly, able to follow his movements better than most at the very least, and likely more. Unfortunately, most of the teens body wasn't as honed as his eyes, unable to keep up, his body not quite turning to meet the feint, his legs still facing the way he'd ran. The only part of him able to keep up with his eyes, keep up with his opponent were his arms, which he'd raise to swat away the playful boop, before following up with a not so playful grab, trying to throw the older boy off balance by grabbing his shirt and trip him to the ground when his legs finally caught up to him. Yuto would recognize it as the same opening move he'd used in his first fight.

I'm not so weak you can just play around you know... The teen has realized the attack had been more playful than anything, a test, and he wasn't quite sure how to feel about it, including his harsh reaction to it. But while the boy might feel bad for tripping this new face over a poke, the fight went on.

Like all children born in the Kyuumu, Suzaku had his eyes taken out and replaced with crow eyes when he was just a baby. And while this sounds gruesome, the benefits of such an operation that the boy can't even remember are undeniable. His kinetic vision is enhanced to a degree far beyond normal human levels, able to trace movement and speeds that most would have difficulty processing as if they were moving in normal speeds, and with clear enough vision he's able to pick out small details at the same time, even from great distances as he can see far beyond human limits as well. He also effectively has night vision, needing only the bare minimum of light to make out things in great detail, and even make out magnetic fields which allow him to tell the direction of North as long as he can see. However, this enhanced eyesight also means things like artificial lights can give him a headache if he stares at them as he can see their rapid flickering, and if he can't see at all its all moot.

On top of this, like all Kyuumu, the boy is fully capable of understanding all birds and being able to talk with them. He is much more proficient at this then when hes talking too people, feeling much more comfortable talking to birds as it's something he's done his whole life. However, when multiple birds are talking at once it's the equivalent of being surrounded in a crowded street, and the boy can be easily overwhelmed as he's not yet experienced enough too make out the different conversations.

Kinetic Vision
While all Kyuumu have exceptional movement based vision, Suzaku is exceptional even among other Kyuumu, things often managing to appear as if they're moving in slow motion as he is able to process high speeds to such a high degree. This not only let's him pick out details of high speed moving things, but lets him react to them better as well, not because his reflexes are better but simply because they appear slowed to him.

most... but one still hides

Life was a strange thing, indeed. For being someone who despised unwanted attention he somehow seemed to end up fighting in front of crowds more often than he ever would have liked. And now faced with a Kumo-nin...

...well, however he decided to handle this bout he would have to do it very carefully. As the young man's read his sudden feint, the wanderer's eyes widened ever so slightly. "Sharper than I expected, as well." He thought, still busy analyzing his opponent in the midst of battle. Hands swatted away his kick, and then— a grab. "Grappling..."

Almost instinctively his own hands rose to try and grip the young man's shirt in response, as a trained taijutsu practitioner's might. With their faces mere inches from each other his arms tensed up... "No." He thought. "I cannot show too much here." And suddenly he relaxed his hands a bit. Being trained in Jujitsu, tossing and rolling were his specialties when it came to close quarters combat. But in front of all these people? "I may have to lose this one."

To those who had seen him, he was just a wandering swordsmith with some middling skill in kenjutsu. And he preferred to keep it that way. If he could skate by with some basic hand-to-hand and win, he would. Otherwise... a loss was much more preferable to people knowing what he was capable of. "I try never to underestimate anyone." He replied to the young man. Then rather than countering the grapple he allowed himself to go down. Maintaining his grip on the Kumo-nin in an attempt to clumsily sweep a leg and drag him down via a Taiotoshi.

It did not look smooth or fluid, instead appearing as a novice fighter's attempt at grappling might. The wanderer impacted the ground with a grunt and whether or not his own half-hearted attempt at a throw was successful he would roll backwards and quickly leap away. "I should've kept my sword..." He muttered, dark eyes focusing on his foe as he came to a sliding halt and adopted a sort of guard. Left hand out in front and right fist by his waist.

Win or lose, he still needed to be careful not to get injured here. So for now he went on the defense and waited.

OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:
NAME: Taiotoshi [Body Drop]

DESCRIPTION:
Counterattack created to intercept a strike and bring the opponent to the ground. Suzaku's skill in Taijutsu began and ended with his eyes, so while he'd be able to see the subconscious reflex of a fighter dwarfing his own skills, he wouldn't be able to recognize it as such. He was fighting in ignorance, thinking nothing more of the reaction than he would any other action of someone being thrown to the ground. And he'd be unable to appreciate that this fight had turned from a bloodsport to a very involved form of Kabuki Theater, the fight feeling very real to the young genin. Especially when his opponent had refused to let go of his arm, something the Yanki girl he'd fought last time hadn't managed to pull off. Suddenly, his own move was being used against him as the older boys leg took out his own, his legs not able to match his eyes or arms in speed. His eyes went wide as he fell to the ground, successfully toppled. Wha-Ah!

And once again he'd reap the benefit of the boon that had been bestowed upon him, the teen using his now free arms to catch himself as he fell with their enhanced speed, and instead of rolling with the fall catching himself and pushing himself into a sprint at his fellow fighter. Looks like you didn't listen to your own rule on underestimating people! While Uemon reminisced on missing his sword, the fiery haired teen simply pointed out how it was a consequence of underestimating him.

Yet at the same time, while he might be right at not underestimating him, it was also increasingly clear his accomplishments here were not fully his own. The boon on his arms being the only thing keeping him in this fight. And those enhanced arms would once again strike out, punching at Uemon's chin as his hands lie at his waist, his eyes watching for a reaction.

the heat of battle

Banter, as much as he despised the idea, was probably expected for this sort of event.

It reminded him of the Okada's matches— and how poor of an actor he proved himself to be in what few of them he participated in. Time and more experience, it seemed, had not improved his shownmanship in the slightest.

Awkward as his grapple was, it still succeeded in tossing the Kumo-nin to the ground... though the boy promptly caught himself and broke into a dash before he could even catch his breath. "I wonder..." He thought, glancing to the event's host. "...that has to be it." Some sort of supportive technique, meant to enhance an ally's attributes from afar.

Something he would have found rather fascinating if he was not dealing with the consequences of it at this very moment. "Does it have a limit?" A question he could not possibly know the answer to, refocusing on his approaching foe. A punch was thrown, and he quickly threw a hand up to block. Dispersing some of the impact, but the boy's augmented strength still managed to throw his own hand into his chin on impact. Causing him to still take the brunt of the punch in spirit, if not directly. "Impressive..." A thought, the wanderer's feet moving to backpedal even further.

For all intents and purposes, he was on the backfoot now. Though the Kumo-nin's enhanced eyesight may have been able to pick out a few details imperceptible to others. How his body seemed to tense, then relax, or how his movements seemed to half-begin before stopping. Telltale signs of someone fighting their own honed instincts.

The wanderer would stop his retreat suddenly, to plant his feet before throwing a counter punch of his own. A  Zenbu-Soku Tsuki aimed squarely at the the boy's chest, slowed through an effort to hold back. He may not have wanted to display his prowess here, in front of an unknown crowd, but he could still put up something of a fight...

...if for no other reason than to practice his own self-restraint in combat situations like these.

OFFENSIVE TECHNIQUES:

DESCRIPTION:
One of the most basic techniques of Jujitsu. Consisting of two sequential punches the user will first throw a small jab with their non-dominant hand to prepare for the next strike and then as they pull back instantly follow up with a snap punch from their main hand, making sure to twist their hips to gain extra power. Because of the deceptive nature of the first strike this basic but fundamental technique is great at catching opponents off guard.

There was a difference between seeing something, and knowing just what it meant. He'd see the movements, of course he would, it was only natural for someone with his eyes. Each twitch, each movement like he was about to leap at the teen. And this would put the hyper-perceptive boy on guard himself, something his seasoned foe would likely recognize as well. Not due to the physical advantages that the clan-born teens special eyes gave him, but with the thing Suzaku lacked as a genin. Experience. And that lack of experience made him misread just what these movements meant, mistaking the young man's reluctance for hesitation. And so, Suzaku acted. And those actions would lead him right into a punch.

While he was fighting uncharacteristically aggressive right now, he had good reason to be doing so. While his opponent might have slowly pieced the clues together on just how a genin was keeping up like this, eyesight or no, only Suzaku and his benefactor knew just when this boost was going to run out. And the answer was soon, and the orange haired teen remembered what'd happened last time he was boosted like this by Yuto. The exhaustion, the soreness. Like his muscles were on fire, unable to even lift up a fork to eat. Yuto had had to feed him instead. But while that might've led to a happy accident post victory, having it happen while the fight was still going would mean certain defeat.

Uemon would see the weird blush on the boy when they'd be face to face during the attack, something he couldn't help when thinking about what happened when his arms had been exhausted last time. But there'd no words this time, which was far more fitting of the usually quieter, almost aloof teen than the annoyance he'd shown when he'd thought he was being underestimated. His reaction didn't even change much when his attack was a success, sort of. The swordsman without a sword was forced back, and while the punch was blocked it had enough force to hit the black haired young man's face by forcing the man's hands back into it. And this spurred the keen-eyed teen on, still pushing as Uemon kept retreating. Even as he watched the wanderer plant his feet solidly in the ground, no longer backing away.

The punch would come out fast, but it wouldn't be entirely unexpected, Suzaku trying to react to push it away. And if he succeeded, he'd realize something, that that'd been a very light punch. Much lighter than the other hits this foreigner had displayed, and his eyes would widen as he realized why when the real thing wound back. Aimed straight on, his rushing meant there was no dodging, and so he acted desperately. Once again trying to push it away, not to miss but to simply take the blow to the side instead of the chest. And Suzaku would add his own momentum by leaping forward, throwing himself into the blow more but letting him once throw a punch himself with just as much momentum that'd hopefully truely knock the man down as Suzaku would crash to the ground as well after leaping forward. The gambit of a boy running out of time, hoping to hit a big score.
