Raika is legitimately a bit surprised when she finds an open mission for ninja to engage in sparring, apparently put in by an older Hokage, but continued by the current administration in order to keep Konoha ninja prepared for combat via sparring with their peers. While her first thought had been to take this mission with one of her two teammates, she decided instead to invite Tokaku to join her on this mission as a sparring partner instead. They'd already done well on the last mission together when they'd taken on the loose-lipped official that had been going around spreading false rumors, and she'd already suggested that they could do some training involving Genjutsu so she'd get some experience in learning to escape from them, and so a spar seems like the perfect opportunity for this training to take place. Not only would both of them get some training in, they could also also get paid a handsome sum while they're at it!

With this scheme in mind, she'd sent out a message for Tokaku to know that the Uchiha would be aware of her plan for their training and that they would be taking the mission together as a spar, but also for that additional Genjutsu training for herself.

For now, Raika waits in the middle of a nearby training zone, one with a built-in sand pit meant to provide a somewhat softer landing if anyone should happen to fall during a spar. The Hyuuga is actually wearing her coveralls more open, letting the top half stay wrapped around her waist while the bottom half covers her legs. Her upper body is covered only by her black tank top, with her straight black hair pulled back in a ponytail behind her head as always, and the Konoha headband wrapped loosely around her neck. She already has the Hung Gar rings around her wrists and her ankles, though her amaranthine eyes are unfocused at the moment while she's busy with a warm-up exercise involving stretching out her visibly toned and firm muscles, followed by a short workout, just enough to get her blood pumping. The Genin was preparing herself for a physical fight, since that's her most reliable skill for combat.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

How bothersome. Apparently the noblemen enjoyed her match with Miroru last time, as she was called forth to fight for their amusement yet again. Alas, a job was a job. Tokaku was going to complete it regardless. This time her opponent was a Hyuuga. One that she went on a mission with recently. This should be an interesting fight. She usually didn't like fighting Hyuuga due to their Byakugan giving them the ability to see through her genjutsu. Which was bothersome when that was your specialty. However, she was aware Raika wasn't as adept at this as someone like Shigure.

Even the Sharingan could be tricked if one weren't careful. She'd have to be careful when dealing with that pesky Juken too. Meaning she couldn't let the girl touch her with that open palm nor those fingers. Either way, Tokaku was sure she could win. Unlike Raika, Tokaku didn't really need to stretch or do any warm-ups. She just stood about ten meters away from Raika's front, standing relaxed and as she wasn't taking the fight all that seriously as she had her hands in her pockets.

She'd wait for Raika to finish up before speaking. "I guess I can give you lessons in genjutsu as we fight. Be grateful, I usually don't do this sort of thing. I just so happen to have taken a liking to you. I'll try to not end the fight too quickly, we have to make it entertaining for those watching, after all…" She said calmly in her monotone, uncaring voice as she pulled out her hands from her pockets. "Ready when you are, Raika-chan." Tokaku said before closing her eyes for a moment to reveal her Sharingan and getting her guard up in a simple ready battle stance.

Raika finishes off her warm-up to hear Tokaku telling her that she's going to be given a lesson in Genjutsu during their spar, and she gives the Uchiha a big grin at the idea of training her in how to counteract Genjutsu during the spar. She'd already given Raika a hint yesterday that the Byakugan was at least able to somewhat impede the use of illusionary ninja techniques, so she doesn't even wait for her to finish speaking before activating her Byakugan, causing the veins on either side of her head to become firm as they feed blood to her eyes, causing those once purple eyes to be overtaken by the white of the Byakugan. However, Raika is still somewhat honorable in this spar, because she waits for Tokaku to activate her Sharingan before she'll be doing anything in terms of combat. She still gets to see when Tokaku activates her Sharingan, watching the mass of chakra move up to her eyes as it changes.

"No need for you to claim you're ready: you're not!"

She floods her body with chakra and activates the handseal for the Body Flicker technique, letting Tokaku watch the whole motion before her body is likely visible enough for the Sharingan to catch her moving to her left. However, Raika only stops moving after she's circled back around to be near the Uchiha to her right, instead. She drops the handseal and the Shunshin while she's crouched down, allowing her to immediately begin her assault with the Konoha Daisenpu, aiming to kick at Tokaku's ankle with a rotation kick, followed by another to the Uchiha's midsection, and a third aimed at the other woman's chin before dropping an axe kick towards the kunoichi's shoulder. Raika makes sure to avoid any potentially dangerous areas to strike, so even if any of her kicks connect, they wouldn't take the other ninja out of the fight immediately. However, the Hyuuga also doesn't expect that Tokaku would be all that incapable of counteracting her sudden attack, so she still doesn't hold back in her use of a somewhat more advanced Taijutsu technique against her sparring partner.

DESCRIPTION:

By invigorating one's entire body with chakra, a shinobi can seemingly disappear and reappear in another location faster than most people can see. Often times one's movements are disguised with the use of an extra element, be it a smoke bomb, leaves, water, sand, etc. in order to hide the user's trajectory from those with skilled eyes. Though it mimics teleportation, it is important to remember this jutsu merely boosts the agility of its user. As useful as this technique is, it can only be used 4 times in a battle thread, compounding in exertion and difficulty each time. with any more usages beyond that result in muscle tears in the legs from overexertion. The hand seal for this technique must be held until the shinobi reaches their destination, making it impossible to utilize other techniques regardless of any preparation.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku could see the chakra building and to her Raika was already going to make a hand seal before she actually did. She was able to hold one handseal at the same time the Hyuuga made hers, charging her body with a pretty taxing amount of chakra just so she could move at high speeds. She held her handseal even as she was kicked, as that was all she'd need to activate her jutsu. So it didn't matter if she got hit if Raika was already in her trap. One flaw of the Byakugan was that it could see in 360° at once, unless they're hyperfocusing.

While that was indeed an advantage, it was a disadvantage when you couldn't avoid seeing triggers for someone's genjutsu. Meaning, the Hyuuga would be unable to escape her tricks. Meaning, once Raika slowed down, her eyes would see the handseal Tokaku made. She'd let the kicks hit her, making her lower to the ground, however she was able to block with her arm, keeping her from taking too much of the brunt of the Taijutsu attack. At least it wasn't Juken. They did need to entertain after all.

She'd use her forearm to push her heel away and jump backwards a few paces away from Raika, not showing any worry or pain from either of the hits. However, with her genjutsu more than likely active, the Hyuuga would feel as if there was now a near crippling amount of weight being pressed against every inch of her body. "Your first lesson. Genjutsu can be cast by something as simple as a finger pointing or handseal. Problem with that Byakugan is, you'd see such actions due to your 360° view. Meaning, you can't escape visual triggers." Tokaku explained and she dug into her shinobi pouch.

"Now, just because you can notice you're under a genjutsu because you can see your chakra disrupted, doesn't mean you can break out of the genjutsu, nor can you easily resist the trick I'm playing on your body, making it think something that is happening when in reality it isn't. Such as the one I'm using now." She explained further as she readied her shuriken with wire rather quickly as she simultaneously gave her a lecture on genjutsu. She threw her shuriken but at the same time released her genjutsu. She felt it wasn't completely fair to use one of such a high level on her.

She just wanted to give her a small example of how dangerous one can be. Now, her goal was to entangle Raika who'd be set free of he'd genjutsu with her wires, using her Sharingan to follow and predict her movements to help the shuriken and wire have an easier time snaring the tall Hyuuga.

DESCRIPTION:
An extremely unsuspecting move and widely adaptable jutsu which utilizes the clan's familiarity with shuriken and the Sharingan. In the midst of battle, the user can throw their shuriken with wires attached, seemingly aimed for the opponent keeping in mind all the deflections and dodged projectiles. Using the shuriken to spread and set the wires around, they can position them to suddenly bind their target, requiring only to trigger a change of position of the set wires, such as cutting one of them, causing the others to instantly rearrange. The neck, hands, appendages, and torso and other body parts will become caught in a complex array of strong wire which prevents movement. It can also be combined with an array of other traps as well.

Raika does indeed see the handseal being made, and almost immediately sees the chakra flooding through Tokaku's body, and then suddenly finding herself in a similar position to a certain ex-government official that they'd recently done a mission to silence. In fact, thanks to the fact that she'd seen the Genjutsu performed herself earlier, it was actually pretty easy to recognize as it's performed on her, and she can see her own chakra being disrupted somewhat by the Genjutsu, but she doesn't really have any method of stopping it from having an effect on her, making her feel as though she had even greater weight placed upon her and making her actions more sluggish. Although one might expect her muscular body to be accustomed to the additional weight, it was greater than anything she'd lifted at the gym. Despite this, she can still see Tokaku throwing the shuriken, recognizing this as the same maneuver she'd used to tie up the official.

Instead of panicking, Raika takes in a deep breath and pushes her arms out to the sides with her hands on her hips, causing there to be a gap when the wire has wrapped around her. Once she feels the weight suddenly lifted off her body, and simply brings her arms in to cause the wire to drop from her body instead of pulling tight. Then she raises one leg to step on the wire and stomp down harshly. Depending on how much wire Tokaku has, it might simply spool out more wire and render the wire already on the ground quite useless, or it might tug Tokaku closer to her, if there wasn't much wire remaining.

"Your first lesson is that using the same trick more than once only leaves you with more openings."

In reality, Raika didn't think she really needed to give Tokaku this "lesson", but the line was really more for show, anyways, and she deftly gives the other woman a rapid single wink, which wouldn't be easily seen by the spectators, but someone with their Sharingan active would easily be able to catch. The Hyuuga rather enjoys the show-sparring, and she decides to take it up a notch by grabbing up the shuriken and tossing it in Tokaku's direction, aimed at her midsection. With that being used as a distraction, Raika immediately follows up with a launched kick, leaping to be able to convert the strength in her legs into a forward-direction attack. It was unlikely that either would hit their target, of course; similar to Tokaku, she didn't want this spar to end far too early.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku was expecting her to deal with the wires easily, which is why she unsheathed her ōdachi from her back. The wires were a slight distraction as well to show that she could've ended the fight if she wanted to. If she kept the genjutsu up, Raika would've been entangled and she could've lit the wire on fire. The moment Raika grabbed the wires, she'd already quickly moved them to her free hand before slicing the wires with her blade. She was tempted to shake her head, but she didn't, seeming unbothered by the Hyuuga.

"Those tricks would've ended up defeating you if I'd whimmed it. But fine, I have more up my sleeves." She said plainly. One of her shuriken was thrown, her Sharingan telling her that obviously was only the first step in her attack. She maneuvered her sword down, holding the flat of the blade to block the shuriken. When the kick came, she barely had to move it to block her incoming foot. However, once the foot would come in contact with the blade she made sure to jump slightly, bending her knees.

Doing this would allow the force to create space. But she'll then lower one heel to stop her momentum, before spinning slightly on her heel with near perfect timing in order to stretch her arm out along with her ōdachi which had a total length of four feet and eight inches. This swing was basic but still fast. Tokaku made sure that even if the blade made contact, Raika would only get a light cut just above her breast, only deep enough to draw blood and make it sting. Nothing serious though. Hell, it shouldn't even leave a scar.

Raika frowns when Tokaku states that the attack would have defeated her, and though she figures that might be the case, the Genin didn't find it quite so unlikely that she wouldn't have thought up some method of escape. Regardless, it seems at first that her kick has pushed Tokaku away, but she seems to turn the attack into a way to move backwards and away from her. Although the Byakugan isn't exactly the best at keeping track of movement the way the Sharingan is, Raika has trained enough with other weapon-wielding Uchiha (namely Kai) to see when an attack is being wound up with such a long weapon. The Hyuuga turns her landing from the kick into a forward roll, ducking under the slice of the blade that still cuts her ponytail slightly shorter. Although Raika notices, she doesn't say anything about it, and instead focuses on decreasing the distance between the two of them. She floods chakra through her tenketsu points as she raises up again on her feet within a very short distance of the Uchiha, unless she moves even further back. Even if she does so, she's going to need to move a significant distance in order to avoid the next attack.

When Raika gets back up onto her feet, it's back into the Eight Trigrams stance, and the eight symbols arranged in the shape of an octagon surround Raika. With chakra already flooding her body throughout her chakra network, it's quick and easy to blast that chakra from each of her tenketsu in an invisible shockwave, stunning nearly anyone close enough to her to be within the octagon. Although Raika could follow up with the full 64 Palm, she instead pulls back and waits to see what Tokaku tries to do, as she'd held back initially with the use of her Genjutsu initially. The Hyuuga felt no need to close out the spar quickly, either, so she was just fine with letting Tokaku get away instead of following through as she might have done in a real combat situation.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku kept trying to keep the distance between them, just as she was taught. Use her arm length in combination with her ōdachi length, having a reach that most wish they could. Her attack would miss, giving Raika a haircut. She'd have to apologize for that later. No matter, she wasn't aiming to do more than cause slight pain and light bleeding. Raika was able to close the distance and get back into her space. Tokaku would keep moving slightly backwards, it wouldn't matter though as she did pull something off.

All Tokaku was able to do was hold up her blade in a way to guard her. However, she knew there wasn't much to do with the attack. She could see the burst of chakra that would sting her, keeping her frozen in place as she kept her guard up with her sword. What was more surprising is the fact that the Hyuuga didn't follow up with an attack immediately. That was an odd concept to her. Even if this was a spar, one should move forward anyways with the attack. You should never leave an opening when you're sure that you could land an attack.

So, she simply waited for the stun to lose effectiveness before she would start to barrage her with fast yet shallow cuts. If Raika didn't choose to fight back during the pause of moments that is.

"My tricks would have ended the fight right away, if I'd continued..."

The smile on Raika's face was a playful one, and she makes sure to let Tokaku see that the stunning shockwave of chakra would have been opening enough for the Genin to close distance and let loose her clan's Taijutsu, not that the nobles really needed to see her strongest techniques firsthand, nor did Raika actually want them to see her clan's tightly-controlled Taijutsu techniques. She might put on a show for Tokaku involving the techniques sometime, but that wasn't what the mission required, not at the moment. Instead, she allows the Uchiha to recover from the attack, standing in a completely different stance now, with this one being a fighting stance one might know if they'd ever watched some odd green jumpsuit wearing weirdos. With one arm up in front of her, held with the palm towards herself and the back of the hand towards Tokaku, Raika's other arm held waist-height behind her back and her feet tight together at the heels, and her body turned aside, she made herself as thin a target as possible, which was really quite a difficult feat with the musculature of her body.

With her body control, she shifts just slightly to avoid being cut by the quick slashes of the oodachi. Whenever the blade comes at her a little too close for her to dodge, she uses her upturned hand to press her fingertips against the flat of the blade, nudging it just off-center to deflect it away, and only when in really dire straits, she uses the metal of the Hung Gar rings to defend against a slash or two. The Genin is really simply putting on a show for the crowded nobles around them, causing sparks to fly as metal occasionally meets metal in a flashy show as Raika uses her Byakugan to keep track of where the blade is at all times, simply waiting for Tokaku to tire and make a mistake that leaves her just a little too open.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku didn't like people underestimating her, even if it was during a spar between a comrade to entertain the upper class. She held back to not seriously harm those who couldn't handle what she could dish out. If Raika looked through her mask, she'd notice the Uchiha smirking ever so slightly, taking Raika up on her challenge. Raika was making herself smaller of a target, Tokaku could see that with her Sharingan as she swung her ōdachi. To an untrained eye, Tokaku seemed to attack wildly, but that was not the case.

She was testing her opponent and getting more into the rhythm of her few years of her training near nonstop with her blade from her father and many other teachers. She started slowly, figuring Raika out without allowing an opening or backpedaling. She was only letting Raika think she didn't have to worry, deflecting and countering her onslaught. That's when Tokaku took a deep breath as her footwork changed, finally in the zone and had analyzed her opponent to better predict their moves. She sped up her strikes and would get more precise.

She was definitely aiming to give her shallow cuts that would sting and bleed, but nothing serious. Tokaku was moving faster and hitting harder, with openings becoming less and less. Just like in her sparring sessions with Isuza-san, her little sister, Raikage-sama and her father. They were showing now. Even with putting pressure on Raika with her long blade the masked Uchiha was still holding back a bit.

Raika's confident smile begins to break as the attacks keep coming and she has to keep deflecting, and although she's still feeling as though she could keep this going for a while, she doesn't see Tokaku taking it too seriously, either, judging by the smirk she's giving off, though it's visible only to the Byakugan and not to the watching elites. She only barely notices the shift in the stance, but she definitely recognizes that the attacks are coming faster and with far greater intent; the thrusts are much more "sturdy" in a sense as well, with Tokaku seemingly getting even faster at recovering from a deflected attack and soon peppering her skin with shallow cuts all over. The first few strikes, the Hyuuga takes as a challenge, but the next dozen successful cuts across her skin, she takes as an insult. Finally taking the spar a little bit more seriously, she breaks the Goken stance and once more relies on her clan's own Taijutsu techniques, as well as the Hung Gar rings in order to deflect the blade while she fully moves in on the Uchiha.

Jūken: Tenketsushin!

With her body shifted sideways, it's a bit easier for her to move past the blade as opposed if she'd been facing it with her shoulders squared, and she sends chakra through her index and middle finger as she extends both, aiming to strike directly at Tokaku's elbow in order to attempt a direct hit on one of her tenketsu. While such an attack wouldn't really make the Uchiha's assault any more difficult, it would likely still cause some pain as chakra moving past the elbow would become halted for at least a short while. The tenketsu wouldn't remain closed, but it would stop any other technique that might require a constant flow of chakra. Of course, if she really wanted to end the fight, she'd have stopped the flow of chakra to the Sharingan, but the last thing that Raika wanted was to end the spar early.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku was showing Raika-chan what she's accomplished by training for about two and a half years with a katana looked like– the several dozen cuts were proof of that. The silver haired Uchiha was having fun–still smirking. She knew she was giving the Hyuuga a little bit of a hard time ad she was now on the defense. Tokaku was now in charge of this dance, barely letting Raika have a moment to catch her bearings. She was having to rely on her Hung Gar rings to help to deflect her fluid and careful strikes of her blade.

Her Sharingan could tell that she struck a bit of a nerve with the tall, muscular, hot… Wait… Was Tokaku getting a little more than worked up during this fight? "You know, you're kinda cute when your temper flares up– Raika-chan~?" Tokaku said suddenly, having a bit of a legit flirtatious tone to her voice instead of pure monotone and emotionless. She didn't even expect it, if she were to be honest. She was seeming to gain a slight attraction as the fight went on as well. It was odd as she only ever dated men. Although, were those feelings only platonic? Either way, it wouldn't hinder her too much.

When her crimson eyes of her active Sharingan detected movement and chakra building up to their fingers as they got into a specific stance– recognizing it as Juken [Gentle Fist] due to spars with Shigure-sama and Hono-sensei. She only moved out of the way right on time with a sidestep and blocking her fingers with the flat of her blade. She would aim to dash behind Raika without missing a beat before their backs were facing each other, while still keeping her distance and reach. Gripping her hilt, she'd spin to try to give her a shallow cut from behind.

This again should do no more than draw slight blood and sting a bit or cut her clothes.

The girl unlocked her Sharingan after teammates died in the last chuunin exams she was in, her mother died after the chuunin exams ended. The trauma has given her One Tomoe in both of her eyes. They allow her to see chakra in color, although not as good as a Byakugan. It also gives her a better view of the actions of her opponent, although not as good as a Two or Three Tomoe Sharingan. It can help her keep track of movements well enough to aid her in combat, nonetheless.

While her temper was indeed flaring a little bit, it wasn't any kind of serious anger, and there was some genuine excitement as well as a healthy amount of respect involved. However, she's caught a bit off-guard when she's called cute by her sparring partner, causing her face to flush before she can successfully deliver her singular counter attack, and she can maybe justify to herself later that she missed because the flirtatious comment and the sincerity in that flirting had caught her entirely by surprise. It wasn't like Raika hadn't flirted with women before, but she could still rationalize it to herself in the future.

Instead of catching the Uchiha with her rapid strike towards her arm, she has the tips of her fingers pressed away by the flat of the blade while her Byakugan keeps track of Tokaku moving around behind her. Although her eyes aren't any better than normal eyes when it comes to tracking rapid movements, she's also capable of seeing nearly everything around herself, giving her enough time to react to the slash aimed at her back. Although she knows that the other Uchiha is holding back, she would rather not have her very thin spaghetti strap tank top cut open in front of these nobles, so instead of letting the sword strike land directly, she swings her right arm up and around in order to try and put the Hung Gar ring between the blade and her skin to deflect it from striking her clothing directly.

"Cute as I am, you can save cutting my clothes off for when we're back at your place, hot stuff."

She turns quickly back around to face Tokaku, seemingly in a ready stance to continue their spar, but then she drops the stance and shakes her right hand, sighing as she feels the weight of the Hung Gar rings making her feel quite sore. They didn't really need to continue the spar any further, as the nobles seemed plenty entertained as it was. Still, this spar proves to Raika that she definitely needs to focus on more defensive techniques in the future, in order to become better against opponents with serious weaponry.

"Uncle, uncle. You win, hot stuff. Say, are you uh... doing anything later?"

The last question is spoken somewhat more quietly, trying to keep the nobles from actually hearing her practically trying to ask out the Uchiha on a sudden date.

[Uchiha Tokaku]

Tokaku caught sight of her blushing along with her excitement from the challenge she was receiving. Her flirtatious comment was genuine, it did seem to have an effect on the Hyuuga, making it easier to block the two strikes she tried to make with her fingers. This brought on a light smirk from the Uchiha as she continued her relentless assault on Raika with her blade. With the attack from behind, Raika was just able to block the swipe that was gonna slash her back with her Hung Gar. With her Sharingan she was able to tell that Raika was starting to get worn out by blocking her strikes with their Hung Gar.

Tokaku smirked at Raika's comment about shredding her clothes and stopped her assault momentarily, holding her blade in front of her, the tip pointing towards Raika as they faced each other. They're both in a fighting stance, ready to continue. That was until the raven haired Hyuuga got out of the stands and shook her right arm. It seemed that the last strike was enough. Not to mention the noblemen seemed entertained. That was when she called the fight. This made Tokaku get out of a battle stance, twirling her blade with one hand before sheathing it all in one motion, before shoving her hands in her pockets.

Turning off her Sharingan, she'd smile at Raika from behind her mask. "Alright, I think we're done here. Thanks for having us." She said bowing to the noblemen, before turning back to Raika. "I wouldn't mind that at all. Let's go get something to eat and tend to your wounds of we need to first though, Raika-chan." The silver haired Uchiha added before she started to walk off with her new friend who was going to turn to something more. This made Tokaku's heart beat a bit.

She hadn't felt this way since Yoru…

Raika at least is allowed to let her guard down once Tokaku moves out of her own fighting stance and puts away her sword. As it is, the Hyuuga is only slightly annoyed by the shallow cuts that the blade had left behind on her skin, though with some concentration, she could get them to heal. They were only surface-level, although they felt like they would probably sting for a while. She couldn't see Tokaku's smile behind her mask, since her Byakugan wasn't activated any more, but she could almost hear it in the Uchiha's voice, and so she gives her sparring partner turned date a smile of her own. Her cheeks are still somewhat red when the other Genin suggests that they could get something to eat and tend to her wounds.

"Then it's a deal!~ You're lucky I'm really good at deflecting weapon attacks or I wouldn't have made the offer."

Raika gives Tokaku a naughty smirk before leading the way out of the arena where they'd both put on the sparring show for the noblemen. Once they're out of sight of those strangers, she boldly reaches over and takes hold of Tokaku's hand, leading her out towards the street where she knows a really good seafood place.

"C'mon, you gotta try out this fried gator tail! It takes just like chicken..."

Raika, ever the bold woman, doesn't seem to mind holding onto the other woman's hand, even if she'd been given a few cuts across her body with that same hand when it had been wielding a sword instead. The Hyuuga was apparently fine with leaving the results of the spar as they were where they'd left the sparring ring behind them, although perhaps Raika was only just competitive enough that she might challenge the Uchiha to a rematch. She'd won a spar against another Uchiha before this, after all, and a rivalry between the two clans is really quite inevitable. It would be therefore only natural that Raika would take an interest in Tokaku's physique as well, or at least the Genin would tell herself this.
