He had undertaken a mission in the southern islands, and even though the mission itself had only taken a day, the journey back and forth had eaten up six days of his time. The morning was busy, but it didn't take him long to reach his home since it was located near the gate.

After reuniting with his grandparents, he settled in and enjoyed a revitalising bath before setting out in search of his beloved sister. According to his grandmother, she had gone out for her training. Shō mused, "No wonder I couldn't hear her voice. She's usually the first one to greet me, especially after a long trip."

After changing into his training attire, he left the house and made his way to the training ground near the academy. To be honest, he had no clue where An was, but he took a chance on this location because it was just beside her school, and it was quite spacious and suitable for training. His hunch turned out to be correct. Among the crowd was a child with light blue hair and small stature, he could sense that it was his sister, even though her back was turned to him.

Her training routine lacked a fixed pattern, leading Shō to deduce that she was likely preparing for the upcoming graduation test, aiming to master all her techniques.

This scene reminded him of his own graduation test. Back then, although it was still several weeks away, he would start training day and night. He acknowledged that his efforts paled in comparison to his sister though, but it was understandable, because the graduation test in this era was significantly more difficult and demanding. The policy was implemented a few years ago, requiring all students who wished to graduate to survive one whole day in Sekana Me island, the home to various formidable beasts and monsters.

Initially, Shō had intended to let her continue her training undisturbed, content to enjoy the beautiful view while patiently waiting for his sister to finish before taking her to lunch. Finally, because these techniques are made from her own cells or bodily fluids, such as converting her saliva into a specific Fungi secretion, An is immune to their effects.

However, the primary issue was that An's chakra reserves weren't sufficient to sustain her rigorous training. Imagine you have 10 units of chakra every day, and you use all of it for practice every day for a whole month. That would equal 300 units of chakra in total at your disposal. But if you could expand your chakra pool to, let's say, 12 units, then you'd be able to practise with 360 units of chakra in the same timeframe. What awaited them beyond the gate was a forest, and he gracefully bounded over natural hazards, making a conscious effort not to rely on any ninjutsu techniques. Their goal was to enhance their physical prowess, after all.

Although Shō wanted to treat it as a strict test, he couldn't help but glance back to ensure his sister was doing well. Luckily, she was keeping up without much difficulty. With his immediate concern eased, he picked up the pace, skillfully moving through the bushes and woods. Along the way, he took a moment to eliminate any highly dangerous hazards if there were any, such as miniature bear traps. He had no intention of allowing An to face such perilous obstacles. "I'm not as cruel as our kage…"

However, he didn't want to make it too easy either. Shō created a shadow clone of himself and started adding challenges to their path. Immediately after creation, the clone moved some huge boulders into the way, making the chase a bit more demanding of physical efforts. This time, the obstacles were of a mental nature, as Shō deliberately designed them this way to prepare his sister for the unpredictable nature of the upcoming exam.

As An emerged from the illusory forest, she spotted her brother sitting not too far ahead, holding a towel and looking expectant. A mixture of relief, joy, and pride washed over her, knowing that she had successfully overcome the genjutsu and was now reunited with Sho.

As a member of the Gurē clan, An has gained the potential to combine her body with flora and the ground itself because of the similarities in her genetic makeup to fungi. She is able to link her chakra to the underground network of organic matter, which includes plant roots, water veins, and decomposing materials. For example, An can hide in things like trees, shrubs and roots, soil, and so on. Once fused, not only is her presence completely hidden and only felt by those with chakra recognition, but it also allows her to travel within the subterranean web of organic matter.

An can grow, shape, and manipulate all forms of fungi, including but not limited to yeasts and mold, along with poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms, thanks to the Gurē clan's chakra and genetic makeup. An has the ability to grow fungi on just about any surface. Because An’s genetic makeup is more similar to that of fungi than that of humans, she can use techniques based on Fungi anatomy, such as secretions or enzymes from various Fungi. She can easily generate or grow any part of a Fungi's anatomy from her own body by using chakra to further alter her own cells. Finally, because these techniques are made from her own cells or bodily fluids, such as converting her saliva into a specific Fungi secretion, An is immune to their effects.
