Description:

The port city gathers a lot of fish from fishing to sell to the local population as a food resource and to transport elsewhere but recently fishing ships have been attacked by bandits out in the sea while on trips or on the way back to the port city and supplies have been stolen. The job is to intercept this bandits and to protect the fishing routes. Boats will be provided for travel on the open sea.

"Welcome to Minato Jichitai!" Miroru cried as she walked backwards through the city gates, arms thrown wide to welcome Daredemo to the port. "I know it was a long walk, but the scenery was good, the weather was gorgeous-" She paused, glancing over the port at the dark clouds in the distance, wincing. "... WAS being the operative word... and the company was pretty great too, right?"

The redhead turned back towards the city and rubbed her chin. "I wanted Itsuki to come with us, but he's had his share of dealing with pirates... can't fault him, I guess. Especially with THAT weather coming in... you brought your hood, right?"

Miroru adjusted the huge gunbai on her back and fixed the straps on her backpack before waving for Daredemo to follow. "C'mon! It's this way to the docks!"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

DAREDEMO Uchiha Miroru

    Walking through the gates to the city was nice enough, but it wasn't like Daredemo had never seen a city before. While it was interesting being in a new place, it just meant more people. More people that would either hate him or disappoint him. Being around them was a challenge.

    More importantly the young shinobi was simply happy to be at his destination. He was also incredibly happy about the company he had. Things were still weird at home. Ever since that day at the BBQ he hadn't returned to the clan compound, he hadn't really seen anyone's reaction to his declaration. He and Miroru hadn't really talked about what happened, or what it meant for them. 

    But Daredemo had no interest in ruining their journey so soon. He was here with someone he cared for deeply. "The company was phenomenal, Ruru," It still felt weird to use a nickname for someone. He had never given someone a nickname before, it was something reserved for friends. As the girl continued to talk Daredemo would simply laugh as he gestured to the cloak he was still clearly wearing. "When have you ever seen me without my hood on Miroru?" both hands planted on his hips as he asked the question. Laughing a bit before he continued following her towards their destination.

Miroru could tell Dare was feeling on top of the world, and she was more than happy to feed his excitement and joy at the accomplishment, the freedom, he felt now that he could embark on missions of his own, unchained from the Academy. "Fufufu, I have to concur, my good man. Phenomenal, indeed, DD-san," she proclaimed as they worked their way towards the docks. The question made Miroru smirk, and she started counting off on her fingers.

"At the clan bathhouse a couple times, on the onsen trip my parents snuck you on that one time, I'm older than you so I remember you running around before you integrated that into your outfit, the sleepover we had when the liquor cabinet went mysteriously empty and my dad brought over some bottles so your dad wouldn't notice..."

It seemed like she could go on.

Thankfully, the docks spared him further counterpoint, and she threw her arms open and sighed at the sight of the open water. "If you don't mind the weather, it's gonna be a great time. Er... that is, if..." She paused and turned towards him.

"You don't get seasick, do you?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

DAREDEMO Uchiha Miroru

    "Okay okay okay!" Daredemo let out an exasperated sigh at the unending list that Miroru was giving to him at this point, "You don't need to keep going I get it!" The young shinobi let out another sigh as he felt the relief of his team mate stopping. The girl, like always, knew exactly how to push Daredemo's buttons. It was still a frustrating feeling, but one that had somehow become welcome from her in particular.
    
    The next sight was one that actually seemed to improve Dare's mood even more. While certainly seeing a small town was something that Daredemo had once done before, actually getting to the docks themselves greeted Daredemo with an entirely new sight. Certainly he had seen a body of water before, but this was different. He was not simply standing at the cusp of a lake or a hot spring, this was a seemingly never-ending expanse. His eyes went wide at the view.

    It took him a few moments to truly process what he had been asked, shaking the cobwebs out of his head as he looked back towards Miroru, "I can't really say that I've ever been on a boat before, so I don't know how to answer that question." Daredemo gave a small shrug, "So I say we just head to the client and hope for the best."

Miroru's familiar, satisfied smug grin graced her face as Dare called for a ceasefire, lacing her hands behind her head with a smirk as she watched her teammate huff in mild frustration. "Well~ if you say so, I suppose I can stop there~"

She was much more considerate of his awe at the sight of the water spreading out before them, standing quietly behind and letting him take it all in as she silently made note of their position and the direction and distance to the cargo ship waiting for their arrival. Or, well. Waiting for departure, before which they ought to arrive was more accurate. They weren't making them wait, after all- she could see the goods getting loaded on deck and taken below alike.

"Okay, that's fair, for sure. We'll just hafta see! If you do, let me know, I keep a few pills for little stuff in my backpack. Antinausea and junk, you know. I like to be prepared. C'mon!" She started off towards the ship in question, ensuring she didn't dart off ahead of Daredemo but matched his pace as she led the way.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

DAREDEMO Uchiha Miroru

    Daredemo was more than happy to get straight to work on this mission. Spending time with Miroru was always fun, but in all honesty Daredemo still just felt a lot of enjoyment about the opportunity in front of him. He was looking around, taking in the sights and sounds of the port, but he seemed to be in a bit of a hurry to actually get to their mission. Everything he really wanted to learn he could learn on the boat. He wanted to see how these things worked, what got them moving. He wanted to see if there were going to be any pirates interrupting his journey. 

    All in all the entirety of the experience was drawing his interest. When he arrived at the ship Miroru was guiding him to his eyes were clearly analyzing every inch of it. He was taking note of everything about it, while making sure to stay close to Miroru. "So, I get that we're doing protection, but how likely is it that anything goes down? Like, are pirates a common occurence?"

    Daredemo likely could have done a better job hiding his clear bias in the question. He so very clearly wanted to encounter some form of pirate on the journey. He wanted a sense of danger, pride in what he was doing as a shinobi.

"Well, the last two times I was out, we had pirate activity. One time I turned into a giant squid and sunk the ships!" Miroru declared proudly. "It'd be nice if it was quiet, but at least you can be pretty positive that anyone willing to roll up as a pirate is ready to hurt people to make some money, so you don't have to feel bad about turning it back on them, you know?"

She stopped by the gangplank up onto the ship they were gonna be guarding, and thought of something, looking back at Daredemo. "How's your Water Walking? I can make sure to get you back on deck to get back into the thick of things if you haven't picked up that trick yet." It sounded better than promising not to let him drown or something, and she waved for him to head up onto the ship as he answered. From the look of it, the goods were just about loaded, so it was time to get on board and make themselves useful.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

    The young boy was doing everything in his power not to smile at the statement that Miroru had already had problems on these waters. He was quite visibly gripping the base of his blade so tightly that his knuckles began to turn white. He was excited for a real opportunity to show off. So much so that he almost didn't notice Miroru's question. 

    When he looked over he gave her a smile and nodded his head. "Yeah, I learned Water Walking and Tree Walking already. Plush a couple of other tricks. I know that the exams are coming up soon and I need to get pretty good if I wanna beat your high score." 

    Daredemo's smile turned into a bit of a smitk at that last part, running up to the girl and wrapping his arms around her shoulders from behind. "I can't let you keep pulling ahead of me. You're making it way too hard to be the best in the clan." words that would never be leaving Daredemo's mouth if anyone else from the village was here. Honestly pretty much everything about his personality right now was something that seemed reserved for Miroru and Itsuki. The boy finally letting his friend go as the two got onto the ship.

"That's my boy~" Miroru cooed, clearly relieved and proud at once. "It took me a while to practice those with Shigure-sensei. Honestly, you're making quick work of things that took me tons of time and work to get right. I've got no doubt you're gonna make Kazui-san and Issei-sama look like slackers and shlubs by the time we get you up to speed. And if you're serious about making a performance like mine in the exams... I can share some of the things that worked best for me, edges that other people didn't have."

She paused in her movement and leaned back into the boy as he wrapped his arms around her. "Well, I won't put on the brakes for too long. You wouldn't want me taking it easy on you, after all~ besides, the worst case scenario is that the only person you have to show up when the time comes is me~ and I wouldn't mind losing number one if it was to you, Dare-kun."

As the two moved onto the ship, Miroru beelined to the captain and made a short report he hardly had time for. In moments, Miroru was waving for Dare to follow her as she scampered up into the rigging and clambered upwards towards the crow's nest, apparently where they'd been assigned to stake out the defense of the ship as it got under way!

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

    Daredemo's face went flush at the praise he was receiving from his team mate in the mission. He just felt lucky that he was firmly behind her at the moment. He could at least partly hide the effect it had on him as he tried to reply in as smooth of form as possible. 

    "Yeah, any tips you can give would be great. I mean, I know I like to use my sword but I'm a bit of an all-arounder when it comes to my specializations. I can learn just about anything I need to." Daredemo boasted a bit, he was certainly proud of his skills so far, and he didn't exactly shy away from making that known.

    Letting Miroru handle the actual people skills part of the task was certainly for the best, so he stood back when she was talking to the captain. Using Tree climbing was also making it a lot easier to find his way up to the crows nest. The view from up top was, majestic. The water only stretched out even further from this high up. 

    "A lot different than when we were playing pirate in the compound," Daredemo gave a slight chuckle at the memories. It wasn't long ago that the two of them were still academy students. So much changing in so little time.

"Okay. Well, my first suggestion would be to make sure that you've learned techniques to improve your movement speed, like the Lightning Step or Sokudo. Most shinobi our age aren't going to have ways to react fast enough to handle speeds like that. Shigure taught me super well, so I was prepared for tricks like that. It only came up once, but the kid who was moving that fast one-hit KO'd his other opponents in brutal fashion. I'd have been in trouble without being ready." She leaned on the crow's nest's rail and peered out at the water.

"After that, some defensive techniques less strenuous than Body Flicker. Lightning Step is great for that, too. It's what I relied on. I also learned moves to dodge in close quarters and block, too- specifically Quick Rotation and Rain, if you're familiar. I can show you some other time if not." She shifted to peer in another direction. Her eyes moved in minute twitches, like she was seeing things on the horizon that Dare wasn't.

Maybe she was.

"After that, I'd recommend two things. A high impact, low chakra cost ranged technique, and True Transformation. The amount of utility that True Transformation brings can't really be understated. There's an animal that'll be good at everything, you just have to think of it."

    It felt quite unusual to be listening to Miroru like she was an instructor. In all honesty he had failed to really piece together just how far she had come along in such a short time. I mean, she was constantly surrounded by some of the strongest people in the village, for some reason, so it was bound to come about that way wasn't it. That was something to ask about later.

    "I'm already pretty fast," Daredemo wasn't necessarily trying to brag, they had spent a lot of time trying to push their speed to the top level, however, "Getting some stuff to boost it even more couldn't hurt though. Though I'd really prefer to not have to get that close. That's what the ash is for. Covers my movements, lets me hit people from far away... I need to get some stronger Ash techniques soon though."

    Daredemo had certainly found a bit of a specialty. The ash techniques they were used to seemed to come more naturally to them then pure fire, what the reason was behind that was for anyone to guess. "What would you say about the sword? Did you fight anyone who used one? Any advice for using it without... needless death?" Death wasn't always avoidable, but he could at least try and do something to mitigate the risk.

    When Dare looked closer at Miroru, he could have sworn something was off, if he wasn't so wound up in his own conversation, maybe he'd have been able to look closer, track where she was looking.

"I'm sure you are. I remember running with you around the compound," Miroru murmured, leaning on the rail a bit, her voice a touch absent. As much as she played at being in good spirits all the time, the exams hadn't been sparkles and sunshine. She'd hurt people, and she knew it, and that weight sat with her as she thought back over everything.

"The thing is, speed feeds everything else. It decides if you can close to melee if that's how you fight. It decides if you can stay out of melee if not. It decides how likely it is for you to land hits, or evade them. And the thing with speed is that you're not a specialist. You're not primarily skilled in tai or buki, and that means that while you're fast for someone who does a bit of everything, against someone that does focus specifically on that stuff, you'll be- if you're lucky- on even ground. And at that point, the question is how prepared you are to take it further."

The redhead squinted a little and straightened, but answered the question as she did. "Yeah. Lots of weapons. Having one and being familiar with it will be an advantage. It's easy to block punches and kicks. It's not so easy to block blades."

A brief pause.

"I'd get a lock added to your blade so it can be used sheathed like a bokken. That's your best bet for bloodless swordfights. And since I know it's meaningful, I'd do that with a cheap scabbard you don't mind breaking. Leave your brother's scabbard at home if you go that route."

Stepping back, Miroru tapped Dare's shoulder and directed him towards the front crests of the dark clouds moving closer to them, where the rainfall stirred up a little white froth- and then a little more specifically, towards a streak of foam more consistent than it should be, moving their way.

"That's gonna be trouble. There's a ship in the shadow of the storm. You can only really make out the waves breaking against the prow, but they'll be on us before too long. What's your plan for engaging their ship with minimal risk to ours?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

    This certainly was not the same person that Daredemo had found a complete annoyance back in their academy days. A lot of this was really good advice from someone that Daredemo had certainly grown a lot of respect for over the months they'd grown closer. And of course there was also the fact that this was someone who had not only been to the exams, but performed amazingly in them.

    This was advice he couldn't afford to ignore. Taking special care to note the commentary on his weapons. The idea of having his scabbard still attached to the weapon when he swung it was... interesting. He didn't know if he was going to go for it.  It was definitely an idea to keep in mind however. 

    Then things shifted. How had he not been paying attention to the storm. Of course a pirate ship would be hiding in it. But that wasn't it, Miroru was further along than he, more observant. He paused for a moment as his eyes fixated on what Miroru was pointing out to him. It look a moment for his eyes to adjust and see the waves she mentioned, he nodded.

    "Let's see, they'll be in pursuit for awhile, certainly gaining on us as well. Infiltration of their ship would certainly be a good step." Daredemo squatted down, his eyes barely over the ridge of the crows nest, framing the horizon against the edge of the railing. "The likelihood of sensors is low, and you have your true transformation you should be able to fly overhead as a hawk or something. See if you can get a look at the number of combatants. I could follow behind on the water, hop onto the boat from below. Heck we could probably even go through without combat if we wanted. A few explosive tags at the base of their boat, blow a hole in it. Or we could just beat them all, tie them up, report the ship when we hit port so someone comes to pick them up. Either way, element of surprise is on our side now.

"You're not wrong, but we need to prioritize resolving the situation before they get in firing range. Our job here isn't pirate elimination, it's target protection, so first and foremost, disabling their ship is going to be the play. That's going to mean taking out the masts, and that's going to be easiest if, like you said, we hit them from surprise. Which I can help us both do, in fact."

Dare's suggestion to resolve things without combat made Miroru rub her chin a bit. "I'm not sure we'll get that lucky. Even the trick I've got to get us close will run into trouble once we don't have open space. It needs about twenty feet corner to corner or it gets pretty noticeable. So I think our best bet is to sneak up, reconoiter, and break to drop the masts ASAP. Probably one of us on mast destruction, the other engaging the pirates on deck until the job's done and we can bolt. Any preference on which task you take?"
