Attire ☼ Throughout the years, Kasumi's attire has evolved. From the colorful and flowing gowns that were made by her kin in the Saeko clan to the more modern styles in Sunagakure, the kunoichi has a myriad of clothing. When on shinobi duties, she can be found often wearing her flowing white haori as she walks along the streets of Sunagakure. For this, she has become almost recognizable from a distance. When under a slightly less formal situation, she may wear her orange shinobi attire, which has a bit of plating on its shoulders along with black leggings. On her feet, she simply wears black shinobi sandals. Her headband more often than not is held tightly along her waist as a sort of belt.
Physique ☼ The first thing one would notice about this woman is her ebony skin, a trait often seen among Kaze no Kuni citizens. Her hair is purple and can be found at different lengths. The shortest she keeps it would be at her neck, and other times it could be long enough to go past halfway down her back, even in a ponytail. She was gifted with a pretty face, but she's been told that she is too often found with a serious expression. All in all, she could be considered a gorgeous woman because of her ample bust and 'figure eight' body. A toothy grin can be seen whenever she spends time with her beloved family or when she is in the midst of a heated battle. Her eyes are a sinister golden color, with slitted pupils and on some occasion they appear purple. It is an odd side effect from hailing from the Saeko clan.

When one first meets Kasumi on duty, she may come off as a serious kunoichi. She's often focusing on something, has no time for being idle, and feels that she must be doing something productive. Because of this, she has occasionally made her underlings expect a stern leader. But, in truth, she is a rather amiable individual. The woman known for her Iron Will is playing a balancing act between work and play.
Deep down, Kasumi is a fun-loving individual. Molded by her position in the village and the setting of her work, she has to put on the facade of an administrator. She is an intermediary between the Kazekage and various peoples of Kaze no Kuni and thus must act with a high degree of professionalism. When one gets to know the woman, they find her to be a very playful, teasing, and very childish kunoichi. There are very few things she prefers over having a jolly good time. Kasumi is often one who indulges in simple pleasures rather than elaborate and classy occurrences.
One thing she enjoys very much is food. For a woman of her size, she sure can eat! It is said that her appetite far surpasses that of an Akimichi. Coming from where food was scarce, she appreciates food greatly and hates those who waste it. No matter how much she eats, she seems to not get affected by it through her weight--one reason being that her metabolism is extremely high and the other being that she's constantly active doing something. A personal favorite of hers is milk. She has proven able to down gallons of it in a matter of seconds.
Having lived in varying parts of Kaze no Kuni and having dealt with so many kinds of people, she's gained a type of perception few people have. With just a quick glance, she can read people and have a good idea of their current thoughts and mental state. When she sees a fellow citizen of Sunagakure who seems to be a bit distraught, her motherly side can kick in, making her appear more compassionate. In the past, she could have cared less and simply shrugged at seeing someone in distress due to the mentality she had in her younger years. Although the woman is much more refined now, there are still many of her ruffian traits that will probably never leave her.
Another trait that she acquired from her upbringing is her sheer roughness and adaptability in several situations. Kasumi is flexible where it concerns survival and combat, but her decisions are just about set in concrete once she's made them. The woman is unwavering in her beliefs, and she can be as stubborn as an old man sometimes. The ebony woman has been looked as a brute in her younger years, and she absolutely hates being called one.
Having spent a few years in politics beside her husband, she has come to know the ins and outs of her village along with good amount of people. She knows their trends and has an idea of what the populace likes and dislikes. She's used that to her advantage on many occasions, making her husband's reign as Kazekage a bit easier. She prefers to stay out of the limelight, especially because of her young family, whom she would do anything for. Combined efforts with her husband have proven to be effective in keeping the village together. Her knowledge of people combined with Takato's eloquence is a working relationship essential to managing the village.
HISTORY More than thirty years ago in the retched desserts of Kaze no Kuni, Kasumi Saeko was born. She was the first-born child of her father and his wives. Because she lived in a severely traditional village, she was supposed to set an example for the rest of her siblings to come. Even more pressure was on her because she was the daughter of the village's tribal chief. Ever since she was young, much was expected from her and she was taught how to perform in all her parents wanted. When she was five she was able to hunt her first major kill, a wild bull, through skillful accuracy with a spear. Since then, her father had exposed her to guerrilla warfare. She learned tactics and basic counters of war. She got to observe live war and bloodshed from a distance. Her small tribe battled others over land and grazing spaces.
By the age of seven, she was a minor leader in the tribe despite being so young. She had a level of maturity and could kill even the strong men. She also hunted for big game while competing with the best hunters of the surrounding tribes. Kasumi was feared but she was ignorant of this. Her father tried to keep her protected from the pressures of their society. She had time to play with her fellow clan kin and children of surrounding clans, but they often avoided her because they were frightened at her sheer power. Kasumi never understood why they left her out of team games; they believed that whatever team she was on would get an unfair advantage because she had so many talents that she could have probably taken them all on.
Kasumi had to learn quickly that she couldn't get many friends so she focused on what she did best: hunting. She quickly gained inhuman strength and stamina as she tussled with lions, tigers, and leopards. She made many skins for her parents, and they were further pleased with their daughter. Her father decided it was time to allow her to come into one of the battles their tribe fought in. From the first day she joined the warriors in battle, she had made a large difference in their victories. Not often did they lose when she was with them, but when they did they imagined what it would be like without her.
As time flew by Kasumi became more and more popular in her tribe. She was soon an equal to her father at just the age of eleven. She was able to hunt like him, fight like him, and was just as knowledgeable as he was in a few areas of combat. Her father couldn't have been more proud, but the other officials of the tribe saw her abilities as a threat to their culture because she was a female. Although she couldn't change their rules much or even think about doing so yet, they plotted to get rid of her one way or another. They didn't believe a woman should be as strong as she currently was. In their eyes it was inhuman. At first, her enemies tried to kill her by paying people from 20 different tribes to assassinate her all at once, but this was averted.
After intercepting a few of their plots to kill his daughter, he decided to move her to a new location. It was simply too dangerous to keep her in the tribe. The tension in the clan was palpable, but he knew his daughter was a strong young woman. He also felt she was capable of taking care of herself. From these observations, the Saeko leader decided that it was time to take her to Sunagakure. By the time she was 10, all the arrangements were set, and he sent his daughter to the village in the east with a group of his own men to guard her on the trip.
Adjusting to her new city life was tough. She was so used to being around a small amount of people in an area, but Sunagakure was a bit overwhelming for her. She had to learn new habits and lose quite a few so she wouldn't be looked down upon. She had to learn the concept of money and currency, the idea of using utensils for eating, wearing shoes, and learning a foreign tongue. She found all of those things a hassle, but she forced herself to get used to them. She had to get new clothes and learn how to wear them while she got rid of her pretty tribal dresses. She loved each and every bit of her tribal clothes and found her new clothing ugly. Although it was true that her own traditional clothes were more vivid in design and color, her father wanted her to get used to city life as soon as possible only for her own well being.
After a few years of adjusting to the change in lifestyle, she had become more city-life compatible. Now she was at the age of 12 and her father's aides were sure she was mature enough to take care of herself. They already put too much attention on her, and that was the last thing she needed when she was already different from Sunagakure girls. Now it was up to her to raise herself. This was no problem. Her father had left her with riches and she could fight for herself. The only problem was that there had to be more to life other than hiding from assassins. Kasumi had heard about how people had made lives out of battle, the people called shinobi. The very thought of it sounded rather intriguing. She had so much free time, she needed to spend it on something. Alas, she enrolled herself into the ninja academy and waited anxiously for the first day of its opening.
On her very first day she had fallen in love with shinobi life. The problem however was that she joined late in the year and had to go through a longer term if she didn't do exceptionally well. If she performed, she would be in and out in no time. She wasn't going to pass up this opportunity. Kasumi worked diligently and passed with flying colors in taijusu for all her beginners tests to see where she belonged, but she discovered she needed to improve on ninjutsu. This would become the young Saeko's main focus.
Eventually young Kasumi graduated from the academy and became a full-fledged Genin. She was assigned to a team with a taijustu specialist as her sensei. This was particularly beneficial for Kasumi because he seemed to have an abundant amount of fighting knowledge to impart on her and thus she quickly became his favorite student. He spent most of his time training her. With each passing day the team became stronger and stronger. As she did more missions, the burning fire of her roots prevailed. The Saeko blood within her and the words of her loving father made her strive towards being the best kunoichi she could be.
When the young girl was not taking on missions, she would spend time with Oonakayama Takato. The boy had come off as someone she could easily take brutishness out on because he had been so meek. She found amusement in berating and bullying him since their academy days. She even used him as a sort of launching pad for her own training. Gradually, however, she would see Takato get stronger and become a force to be reckoned with among their peers. While she never admitted it outright, she found herself genuinely enjoying his company and liked being paired up with him on the occasional mission.
Kasumi would eventually qualify for the Chuunin Exams and advance in her rank. This newly gained independence meant she could finally take on B-ranked missions and also even lead her own team if she liked. It also meant that she ended up spending more time with Takato. The young man would eventually ask her out and she enthusiastically agreed. Kasumi would find herself learning a lot from the boy she used to give a good beating to.
At the age of sixteen, the adolescent would discover that she was pregnant. Initially Kasumi was met with an overwhelming wave of mixed feelings. She did not know who to confide in or to get help from, and she was unsure what her peers would think of her. Motherhood was the last thing on her mind. She wondered if she would still be able to adequately take care of an infant and still go about her shinobi duties. When she informed the would-be father, Takato, she was given a high level of assurance and support. Takato stated he was dedicated to staying by her side and would do whatever it took to maintain their well-being.
After 9 months, Kasumi would give birth to a girl and name her "Arashi" after Takato's sister. They were starting a family. In the backdrop of it, however, war was slowly brewing. The Kazekage at the time wanted some of the infrastructure of Amegakure to acquire more consistent water supplies for Sunagakure. While Kasumi was busy nursing her daughter, her comrades were being sent off to war. She couldn't help but feel idle and wanted to contribute to the cause. Ultimately, it was Kasumi's sense of adventure that compelled her to join the fray. She would leave Arashi with her parents in secret and ironically enter Arashi no Kuni with the next wave of Suna shinobi.
It was not until midway through the war when Kasumi realized how foolish she had been. Many of her comrades fell right before her eyes. In retrospect, she wondered what would have happened to the daughter she had left at home if she died. It was at that moment the girl found an additional reason to live. She would continue fighting along side her fellow shinobi, doing her best to motivate them onwards. In the missions she was assigned, she would lead teams to victories, and she did her bit to momentarily turn the tide of the war in Sunagakure's favor.
However, as the war progressed, it became clear to many that Sunagakure was not going to win. Commanded by her superiors, she would fall back. Although she would not be filled with a burgeoning sense of victory, Kasumi had developed a deep love of country. Although she would occasionally contemplate the horrors of the war she had just seen, she dedicated more of her time to bettering herself as a kunoichi. Fatigued, but enthusiastic, she completed several missions and improved upon her ninjutsu and taijutsu.
Village officials would take note of the Saeko's know-how and task her with improving Sunagakure's standing with the surrounding communities in Kaze no Kuni. She would roam the country, using her expertise on the smaller towns and tribes to forge closer bonds to Sunagakure and convince them to send some of their most skilled and able bodied individuals to the ninja village. She would also lay out significant swathes of Kaze no Kuni into maps that described the various cultures and languages in great detail. She would record various regions, cultivated and untouched alike, for their resources and the kind of manpower they possessed. Upon her return to the village she would report to her superiors and even the Kage himself. For her excellent work, she would be given an elevation in rank. She became a Jounin.
On one of her journeys in the desert, Kasumi paid her loved ones a visit. The Saeko clan, still as backward as ever, were quite hostile when they saw her. Memories from several years ago came to the forefront of her rivals. They saw her as a threat to years of their patriarchal customs. With her few and far between visits, she was viewed as more an Easterner than one of the Saeko. Speaking fluently in her mother tongue, she tried to reason with her compatriots. Suna shinobi she might have been, but her roots were still with the Saeko. Her efforts seemed in vain; Kasumi was attacked by some of the Saeko warriors, but her shinobi skills proved superior. One after the other the men would be subdued. Onlookers would be awed by the training Sunagakure had given her.
It was on that day opinions within the clan had begun shifting. More individuals wanted to be aligned with their neighbors in the East. Days later she would be coronated as the next Saeko head; her father had abdicated. Kasumi began working to alleviate factors that might have stifled new thoughts and mentor kin that were intrigued by the prospects of Sunagakure.
Her father took her to the side and asked about her relation with Takato, and he also informed her that within the clan there were interested suitors. It was a notion she found somewhat flattering but humbly declined. She had abundant love for the father to her child, and she had known for some time that there was little room for others in her heart. The man accepted his daughter's position and in fact expressed his support that they be wed.
Not long after her return to Sunagakure they did just that. She had gone from Ms. Saeko to Mrs. Oonakayama. It was a blissful time for the young couple that resulted in their second child. Her husband's exploits on the field had garnered significant attention from their superiors and it culminated to an important meeting where they would both be called. The shinobi council nominated him to become the village's next Kazekage. Just like her husband, she was surprised by the offer, but when the news eventually sunk in she saw his hesitance and tried to persuade him to accept the position. She had great trust in her husband and believed he was the best for the job. One of his first acts was to appoint her as the Jounin Hanchou. Kasumi looked to use the position to better their beloved village.
However, there were responsibilities with his new position that the woman absolutely abhorred. It was a hot day in the Oonakayama household when she was informed that their daughter would be made into a Jinchuuriki. She fought tooth and nail for her wish for a normal childhood for young Arashi. She even questioned whether the man truly loved their child because in her motherly eyes it seemed as though he was inflicting a grave, unconscionable punishment on the poor girl.
But alas, she had been unable to sway him and she was forced to watch as her daughter would be labelled a monster throughout her youth and adolescence. For a time, she would even have to endure her daughter running away from home and living on the streets. She would keep a close eye on the girl, dropping off homemade meals and doing her utmost to convince the girl to come home. It took several months, but she would be able to embrace her daughter and once again share the same roof with her. Kasumi's life would return to a level of normalcy, allowing her to devote even more attention on her growing family and give birth to her third child, Takefusa.
As the Hanchou, she continued to advise Takato on a range of issues while doing her best to lead the Saeko to greener pastures. But above all, she hopes to raise her children into admirable individuals.
Age 32 to 34
Kasumi worked behind the scenes in and out of the spotlight in Sunagakure. Her priority has been raising her family and supporting her husband's political efforts--though mostly the former. At present she still works as the village's Jounin Hanchou. She lives at home with Takato and their children (Arashi, Setsuna, & Takefusa) and the ward that Takato allowed to stay with her family--Miyo. It has been a happy few years for the woman. Her priorities are still on bringing up her children the best she can, guiding her clan as the Saeko's leader into a more prosperous future (and encouraging a few of the more "modern" ways in the process), as well as furthering Sunagakure's progress on a global scale.
Age 34 to Present
The past few years have remained challenging for Kasumi. With the land laying to the west of Sunagakure facing civil unrest, her family life and village duties have been more unbalanced than ever. Kasumi acted as a representative for the village in ongoing negotiations. On several occasions, her attention was called to handle matters pertaining to the Saeko clan, notably several being inciting the uprisings in the western region. Her faith in her husband remains absolute, though some days she can't help but wonder if the region will know peace. Kasumi remains a dedicated kunoichi to the village, a mother to her children, and a supportive wife to her dear husband in these uncertain times.

FIGHTING STYLE Kasumi is an adaptable kunoichi who is not afraid to change things up. She finds little issue with taking on an opponent from close range or from afar. Years of training have made her inclined toward the art of taijutsu and thus she has acquired a very fit physique. Through bouts of athleticism, she hopes to outdo her opponents then surprise them with the occasional usage of other shinobi arts. In the face of dreadful, high-stake situations she tries to find a way to lighten the mood. As a veteran of war, she sees great value in teamwork and prefers to work with others than alone.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
『Oscillating Ostrich』 The rugged terrain of her home and the wild animals she cohabited with molded Kasumi into an exceptional runner from a young age. She easily sprints at a high rate that allows her to outpace several of her shinobi counterparts. When she runs, Kasumi appears like a blur that opponents will have great difficulty keeping track of. She has also conditioned her body to keep her speed for long distances and periods of time. She isn't has fast or durable as somebody with a dedicated SA to one of the two factors, though.
『Springy Serpent』 Kasumi has a great sixth sense for moving her body. Given the smallest amount of time, she is able to successfully react in ways that allow her to successfully dodge or maneuver. She is particularly flexible and able to perform many athletic feats. She is capable of contorting her body and appendages in ways that may even be painful to most. However, this boost in reaction time and flexibility is not as powerful as somebody who has a dedicated SA slot for either.
『Saeko Senses』 Many hunts with her kin have given Kasumi an understanding of the baser instincts of animals and the way in which they use their natural senses to capture prey. She has gained improved senses all around--her sight is sharper, her nose and ears more sensitive, and her sense of touch improved as well. From following scents on the breeze to reading the earth for vibrations, these heightened senses make her a kunoichi who is very difficult to catch off guard or surprise--as well as an excellent tracker.
『Vibrant Vigor』 Kasumi's life as a desert dweller has exposed her to a variety of vermin and pests who have both bitten or stung her and caused her varying bouts of illnesses. However, as she grew, her body has become hardened and has optimized varying processes within her body to a very high degree. Kasumi has since become fairly resistant to many poisons and other impurities that cause harmful effects (The toxins/poisons of wild animals have dramatically decreased effect on her, and man-made substances also have somewhat reduced effects raising the requirement of dosage by one for the poison to take an effect). She also benefits from a naturally speedy rate of recovery from poison/toxin related injuries and harmful statuses.
『Killer Kunoichi』 Following the ways of her clan in hunting large game and carrying on her work as a kunoichi, Kasumi has learned the intricate workings of the animal and human body. She understands the way they function and what parts of the body are most suited to have their vulnerabilities exploited in a given situation. Armed this this knowledge, the woman has an easier time of taking advantages of the human body, even if unable to utilize medical ninjutsu. This is best put to use by inflicting as much pain onto an opponent to get them to surrender, or to know how to quickly finish off an unbalanced foe as quickly as possible.
『Queen of the Sand Castle』 Kasumi is a true Kaze no Kuni daughter of the soil. She has seen the depths of the harsh deserts and the prosperous oases. She is very knowledgeable in the mannerisms, cultures, and tendencies of various parts of her country and fluent in many of the languages native to Kaze no Kuni. Through her child-like antics, sophisticated diplomacy, or her genuine curiosity, she has come in contact with individuals from across many societal strata. Off the battlefield, she has proven to easily befriends others and comes off as very charming and understanding even to those who might be predisposed to dislike her. Dealings with others will tend to go her way. On the battlefield, this translates to the ability to read others and acquire understanding of the scope of a target's anger and work to placate them and see her way of things. This has proven particularly helpful in calming down Arashi during her occasional episodes of rage.
