KIRIGAKURE NO SATO

Basic Information

Kirigakure no Sato is a place of great variety in spite of what its enemies may think. It is possesses a beautiful landscape in conjunction with places that are still healing from times of war. The wealthier districts clash with the lower income ones, tradition and modernity are constantly at odds.

The architecture is notable allowing for the village to remain hidden in the mountains and mist for its flattop mountains that stretch in-between buildings. The majority of buildings are likely to have more floors than wide and spacious rooms.

Many have rooftop gardens and rooftop parlors to accommodate for this lack of horizontal space.

Credits: Some pieces are inspired by Moro's original work but as a whole this has been heavily expanded and modified by Han.

Kirigakure no Sato Map | You may request residential spots to be placed on it but the request is that you should be realistic about where you character can feasibly live.

Gyōsei-ku [行政区]

[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required]

Gyōsei-ku [Administrative District] is the smallest of the districts yet it is the most packed with shinobi business. It is a well maintained and updated portion of the village with the buildings done primarily in black stone. There is only one entrance to this district and it requires an identification number, a scroll or letter of business request to enter. Academy students are given academy passes that they will present at the entrance, whilst other shinobi will rely on their identification numbers. Guests, and civilians looking to receive service must be escorted by a shinobi to the Mizukage Tower and back.

The following facilities can be found in this district:
- Mizukage Tower
- Kirigakure no Sato Academy
- Hospital
- Laboratory [Restricted]
- Oinin Butai HQ [Restricted]
- Training Yard
- Old Prison [Restricted]

The Mizukage Tower [水影の塔 | Mizukage no tō]
[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required]

Elevated above the rest it is done in ivory, blue, black, and gold paint on black stone. The primary hallway leads to the top where the Mizukage's office is, along with any personal meeting rooms for the Mizukage to hold council meetings and so on. An appointment is required to be able to access this part of the building.

The lowest floor of the building opens to a warm welcoming hall, where the primary activities are seen. There is a consulting information desk and information board. There are places where civilians and other's may request aid from shinobi - protection, assassination, etc. There are many plants, and tapestries that make the waiting process for requests to go a lot smoother. Further into the first floor there are also the Kōan-kyoku offices as they are the most frequently dispatched part of the Suiryu Butai.

Going up the next several floors the primary colors turn to white, grey, blue and gold. There are libraries, research departments, data collection areas, shinobi information, and offices for those that have earned an office - reserved for the Head Medic, Jounin Hanchou, Oinin Butai Captain and Shinobi Council.

The second floor does have a set of offices for Kirigakure Kamenoko Mamori units for any paperwork reasons.

Suiryu Ryodan are sequestered to the third floor due to being part of the navy and therefore only need to report for paperwork and official meetings, otherwise they will be found outside of the village manning ships.

Below the first floor is an area concealed by very powerful and advanced fuuinjutsu that will only open when acceptable chakra is sent into it. This allows access to those who have been given access, no more or less. The tunnels below lead to different places in Kirigakure no Sato and Mizu no Kuni at large. The most notable tunnels are ones that lead to the Suiryuu Bay and Sekana Me.

Kirigakure no Sato Academy [霧隠の里学園 | Kirigakure no sato gakuen]
[ACCESS]:
1 [General Shinobi Access]

Mizu no Kuni or rather Kirigakure no Sato is the mecca of shinobi training in the entire country. Individuals travel far and wide just to get to the so-called training academy, whilst others have known that they will attend their entire lives. Kirigakure has always been known for its strict curriculum, but with the Hachidaime Mizukage's development, the curriculum has become more advanced and teaches children over the span of four years. Some choosing to enter early, other's a little later. Though the standard age(s) is about 7 to 8 years old, as graduation is often considered or recommended by the home-room sensei four years after induction at about 11 or 12 years old since this is when most children are considered mature and capable enough of becoming the rank of genin.

Classes start at 0600 and end at 1330, with a short lunch break in the middle. Though there is no official cafeteria in the school - and most students opt to bring their own food - there is a small area on the second floor that provides some nutrition to the students who do not have the ability to bring something from home.

Academy Curriculum.

The academy is a renovated black brick stone building with multiple floors. The basement has a significant training arena that is used for sparring for the students as well as training of kenjutsu during school hours.

The first floor is a reception hall that leads into several corridors that have classrooms and meeting rooms for faculty. There is also a main welcoming hall where students and parents are invited on an annual basis to welcome students into the academy or to honor their exit upon graduation.

The second floor has a lot of light and many beautiful windows, the classrooms are sparse here, as it is primarily a resting area with many seats and tables. There is one room with training dummies for overachievers. There is an area where a dedicated staff member will hand out a nutritious lunch to those that cannot financially afford to bring one from home or do not have a family to provide them one. For the ones who are exceptionally struggling, they are invited to come before classes begin to receive a small breakfast of rice, seaweed and smoked fish.

The third floor up to the tenth floor is a series of classrooms of different sizes. Generally students are split up with the most advanced students being towards the top floors with the newest students being towards the bottom floors.

At the very top of the academy there is a beautiful garden that students are encouraged to care for, as well as use to meditate and hone their craft in.

Hospital [本院 | Hon'in]
[ACCESS]: 1 [General Shinobi Access]

This is the main hospital of the entire village, it has the finest staff and medical shinobi on board. This is primarily where the medical corps of Kirigakure work. Although this is not to be mistaken as the only place to get medical help it is certainly the primary place to do so especially for shinobi.

If one desires to get good help after a significant injury or with significant illness this is the best place to go. Due to its government funding the majority of care is free to very low cost.

It has six floors and is the only building that is lined in white paint outside of the Mizukage Tower to signify its intent.

The first floor is primarily a reception area and it deals with emergencies to avoid having to go up flights of stairs.

The second floor is a surgery floor with surgeries being performed here.

Third and fourth floors are long stay care areas with individuals who need longer term care residing in separate rooms. Visiting hours are between 1200 and 1600.

The fifth floor is dedicated to minor injuries or non-emergency situations. Vaccinations, common colds and all regular appointments are found here.

Sixth floor is a space primarily for offices, the Head Medic has an office here as well as any lead medics in the hospital.

Laboratory [研究室 | Kenkyūshitsu]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

An unassuming building that is attached directly to the hospital. It is lower to the ground with only three floors. It is attached to the hospital for medics and for the Turtle Defense Corps to have quick access for research and interesting cases. However, it is restricted for higher up medics as well as those that are tasked with defensive inventions and so on - this means that this building sees very little foot traffic as proper identification must be presented to enter.

Oinin Butai HQ [応仁舞台本部 | Ōinin butai honbu]
[ACCESS]: 4 [Mizukage & Mizukage Personnel Only]

The building is like any other building in the area, hiding in plain sight. It is tall with a rooftop that has plenty of greenery. However, access is impossible without being part of the Oinin Butai, and any who once served but have left have their chakra signature access entry destroyed. All other shinobi are unaware of this building and the nature of this building would never be revealed to anyone who is not recommended for this very specific line of service.

All individuals who enter are required to enter with their identities concealed entirely, masks on and all identifying features tucked away. Code names are required in the building. Entry is only available at the rooftop of this building.

There is a small concealed training yard attached to the building that is exclusively for Oinin Butai shinobi to train and practice in.

Training Yard [訓練場 | Kunren-ba]
[ACCESS]: 1 [General Shinobi Access]

Attached directly to the academy it is primarily used for academy students off hours to train and practice. However due to the fact that this area is public and is of a decent size most everyone uses it to train in without discrimination.

There is a little pond towards the back, trees, plenty of wooden and steel training dummies, targets as well as a rack of practice weapons that can be picked up to train with. The practice weapons are made of wood or rubber.

Old Prison [古い刑務所 | Furui keimusho]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

Surrounded by a substantial gate and guards at almost every imaginable vantage point this old prison is not in but attached to the administrative district. It does not house significant nukenin, but instead low-rung criminals and is also a holding place for drunks and other hooligans to stay overnight if they were particularly belligerent.

Shōgyō-chi (商業地)

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

The Business District. The majority of shops, restaurants and markets are found here. Finding a blacksmith, a slaughterhouse or a wash house here is quite simple.

Much of the architecture leans older than the rest of Kirigakure no Sato, wealthier more prominent businesses blend in well with the modern updates and construction of the village but others lag behind in hues of red, green, grey and blue. Most buildings are made of wood with a firm stone foundation, some are made of a brown or tan brick. Rooftop gardens are scarce here since most buildings are focused on business not domesticity.

It is a rowdy and loud area with people wandering around and bartering with merchants being a common sight.

Truly speaking, this is the heart of Kirigakure no Sato where weapons are made and are most available for every shinobi. The food is processed here, and much of the carriage transport is found here too.

This may be a tricky place to navigate for a newcomer so a map is always recommended.

Cemetery [お墓 | O haka]
[ACCESS]:
0 [Available to Anyone]

The main village cemetery. This is where many of those who passed away will be laid to rest, and an entire section of those who passed during the Sanbi rampage is made available for family members to mourn. There are several erect but small memorials. A plethora of ancestral shrines are found here. This is an extremely quiet place for soft contemplation and reverence for those who had given their lives for the village and civilians who had lived calmer lives.

Much of the cemetery is run by Waruichi clan members, who take great care in making sure everyone's loved ones have found peace in their final resting place.

Main Gate [正門 | Seimon]
[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

This gate is the Western gate of the village, but it is without a doubt the largest and is therefore the main gate that opens right into the business and administrative side of the village.

Having been newly repaired it is decorated with statues of dragons, frogs and a myriad of other water creatures that are etched into a dark stormy grey stone - in rare sunlight it reflects a docile blue.

From the main gates a wall spreads out around the village to keep unwanted presences out, and it is double-layered with a hidden tunnel placed inside. The tunnel is to get shinobi from one end of the village to another without them having to traverse the entire village. Wandering inside can and will result in death or capture as the tunnels are equipped with traps and gases meant to keep people out that do not have explicit orders to be inside.

There are three sections to the main gates:

Section One: Two shinobi check identification here regardless of whether someone is entering or exiting.

Section Two: Weapon check, this is the point that you may be detained if you are found to be in the bingo book or are refusing to cooperate. The gates will automatically close and an exit will be impossible in either direction. This area is equipped with gas pipes that render individuals unconscious in this area, the gas takes a few minutes to work.

Section Three: Merchant Inspection, this is to ensure that all wares brought into the village are allowed and legal. If they are banned the merchant will be turned away.

Kanrakugai [歓楽街]

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

The actual physical heart of the village, the entertainment district is not particularly large but hosts a great deal of fun in that small space. The majority of the nightlife can be found here, and whilst the southern side deals mostly in higher brow entertainment such as music shows and theater the northern side is less interested in putting on a good show. Due to its proximity with the lower class residential district much of the northern side is where most of the local crime is concentrated in the village.

Between drinking and belligerent activities some businesses are also considered the 'underbelly' of Kirigakure with a host of secret fighting rings - animal and human - brothel activity, suspect teahouses and markets that offer illegally obtained wares. As a result of this the Suiryu Butai are frequently posted here to keep crime levels and crime related damage low.

Overall, this is where many adults come to spend their time away from home.

Tamokuteki chiku [多目的地区]

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

This entire zone was previously an unlivable area restricted to higher level shinobi visits. It is the place where two entire clans were destroyed and many more shinobi. It was once in total disrepair, but now it is a space that has risen from the ashes with new homes, restaurants and businesses are scattered throughout the area as people slowly begin to migrate into this space.

There are renovated waterways that provide clean water, and a few areas that are just plain fields, there is one old man that lives here who has lived here since even before the area was falling apart, he farms sheep, but was once a great shinobi.

Sanbi Memorial [サンビ記念碑 | Sanbi Kinenhi]
[ACCESS]:
0 [Available to Anyone]

A beautiful and significant obelisk of a memorial that stands erect towards the center of the district. It is made out of a white stone and has the names etched for all of those who lost their lives fighting during the Sanbi attack. It is a place of reverence and silence. The memorial has crystal clear water passing over it into a pool of water below, in which koi swim in circularly. A traditional bridge allows visitors to cross to touch the memorial but it is under guard to avoid vandalization.

Northwestern Gate [北西門 | Hokusei-mon]
[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

This gate is in mint condition, due to how new it is, it is still underutilized but slowly receiving more and more foot traffic. It is impossible to enter as a visitor through this gate, only residents with identification and shinobi with officialized mission scrolls or identification may enter.

Most all get sent to the main village gates for processing as this gate is primarily for residential and shinobi exits or similar entries.

Kasō kaikyū chiku [下層階級地区]

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

The area with the highest crime rate in the village some parts are still in varying levels of disrepair from the Sanbi rampage all those years ago. However it is also the most accessible part of the village for the most financially unstable individual.

Much of the Koan-kyoku officers spend their time here in an attempt to keep criminal activity low and in recent years activity has lowered.

The district as implied, is primarily made up of homes, small and poor homes. Very few amenities are found here, certainly no training yards for shinobi. A few standard schools for children are scattered but they generally are not preferred to the better schools in the nicer districts.

Some call it the 'slums' but in truth only parts of this area can be considered true slums due to recent improvements in the economy.

Orphanage [孤児院 | Minashigo-in]
[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

Kirigakure no Sato's state funded orphanage, it is not in the best part of town, and the matron is older and grouchy but despite it's location it still functions as a home for abandoned children. Adoptions are not extremely common and those who are without a clan find themselves here more often than those who have clan abilities that are uncovered.

The building is quite tall and has been undergoing occasional spot repairs to ensure that the children living there are in a fair conditions - this has been the case since Hachidaime Mizukage's coming into power.

Northern Gate [北門 | Kitamon]
[ACCESS]:
2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

This gate is physically in pretty poor condition due to its location, though it is still used on occasion. The guard here is quite lax in comparison to everywhere else, however the gate follows the same rules as all the other non-main gates.

Shuyō jūtakuchi [主要住宅地]

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

The primary part of the village where almost all of the public lives in buildings of varying quality. Most buildings are built with mountains in mind so they are more vertical than they are wide and horizontal. The space makes it so that most rely on having gardens on their roof tops or terraces to maximize sunlight since the mist do cling heavily to the village.

Civilian families - and shinobi families alike - tend to seek out houses in this district as it is close to a plethora of activities and different amenities including public parks and more significant non-shinobi schooling. The main school here will equip you with all the necessary basics to pursue further education elsewhere - most likely in the nations capital.

There is a smaller smattering of entertainment buildings such as theaters, music shops, book stores and even a humble arcade - though the technology of the arcade is not quite advanced it can still be fun to play with pinball machines, and familiar board games.

With many roads, merchants and a few markets placed throughout it is a very nice place that is smattered with several proud clan compounds within.

Yuki Compound [雪氏族の敷地 | Yuki Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The Yuki Clan Compound does not suffer from a lack of amenities or a lack of beauty. The clan values beauty and what they can show to the outside. As a result their traditional clan area is spacious, and grandiose. It houses multiple Yuki clan members, including its leaders, higher officials and their families. It is among the crowning jewels of the entire village.

Shouki Compound [正気氏族の敷地 | Shouki Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

Though the Shouki clan is a substantial clan of Kirigakure no Sato they are also quite secretive and humble. As a result the compound that they hold is not quite as ostentatious and flashy as some other compounds in the village. They prefer function over anything else. There are several underground laboratories as well.

Kuronmeru Compound [黒い血氏族の敷地 | Kuronmeru Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

Another ostentatious clan compound. The Kuronmeru spare no expense to show off their superiority to the rest of the clans. They are among the most conscious of outward appearances, and want to ensure that they appear as noble as possible while raising their young to act in a similar way. Many Kuronmeru choose to live in the compound as it means seclusion from the outside world that may influence them to 'lesser' ways. It is frowned upon for a Kuronmeru to live outside the compound in truth.

Jōryū kaikyū chiku [上流階級地区]

[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

The area bleeds over from the main residential district, the houses here become more sparse and less packed, grander. The merchants wealthier, selling far nicer food, items and so on. This area for the longest time has been where the absolute wealthiest have lived, but in recent years more and more have been able to afford the odd home here and there, mixing and matching the hierarchy of the individuals here.

In spite of this movement, the majority of the district is not very packed aside from parks, beautiful walkways, markets and merchants.

Without a doubt the houses are bigger and more extravagant. And those who live here can afford to send their children to the very nice school that located here. Though it is the same as the other district, further instruction is preferred elsewhere. Furthermore, as the economy grows the nicer everything looks though in the past 'wealth' did not seem to mean much aside from having food and shelter.

Garment District [衣料品地区 | Iryō-hin chiku]
[ACCESS]:
0 [Available to Anyone]

Though it is possible to purchase clothing and fabric items all around the village, this particular district that neighbors the Waruichi Compound is an area that is specifically set aside for a well-known and beloved market in Kirigakure. The wares here are almost entirely focused on clothing, fabrics and related items.

Waruichi Compound [悪い血氏族の敷地 | Waruichi Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The Waruichi are a proud, old and substantial clan of Kirigakure. They are located in the richest district because they are among the wealthiest clans and hold some of the biggest pride not only for their clan but also their village. They have a beautiful compound and are always maintaining it. There are several underground passageways that allow them to maximize the use of their hijutsu.

Kaguya Compound [迦具夜氏族の敷地 | Kaguya Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]:
3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The Kaguya clan is on the road to becoming brand new, with two sections being quite distinct in the clan itself - the new and the old. The old is from the times of when the clan was settled in Kirigakure the new area is from when they rejoined the village following the civil war.

The old area is mostly populated with sheep and goats, the homes are older and wooden. The clan leader lives here as well in a nicer home attached to a lake that looks out towards a Kaguya funded training yard.

The new area fits in with the newer style of building though still reflects the proud warrior lineage that the Kaguya has. Most all Kaguya shinobi live here.

Ama Compound [海士氏族の敷地 | Ama Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]: 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The Ama Compound is perhaps unsurprisingly centered around water. The compound is definitely beautiful and has an almost feminine ethereal glow to it. There are many water pathways here - more than anywhere else in the village even though the village itself is known for beautiful waterways on the streets - and these waters all have water lilies and other beautiful flora growing.

The Ama are a fairly spread out clan, but some of the higher-ups do live in this compound. Despite it's beauty it is among the smaller compounds in the entire village.

Sourei Compound [そうれい氏族の敷地 | Sourei Shizoku no shikichi]
[ACCESS]:
3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The Sourei compound is focused around warehouses due to how business minded the clan is. They have many wares coming in and out of the compound at all times and there are plenty of Sourei guards stationed in the area, away from prying eyes. There are also a few homes for Sourei individuals, and one or two extra taverns for Sourei mercantile guests.

Training Yard [訓練場 | Kunren-ba]
[ACCESS]: 0 [Available to Anyone]

A training yard that is attached to the Kaguya compound, it is old but beautiful. It has an expansive amount of green grass and the dew and mist always cling to the area. It is without a doubt the largest training area in the entire village and a part of it is closed off for private Kaguya clan use just beyond the body of water.

Due to its centralized spot it is a popular place to train for all shinobi and is funded by the Kaguya clan itself.

Eastern Gate [東門 | Higashimon]
[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

Considered the gate that casts the sun rise upon the village, this gate is guarded well though despite its beauty is not a particularly popular spot so it does not see much foot traffic. Rules to access it are the same as every other non-main gate in the village.

Southern Gate [南門 | Minamimon]
[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

Much like the eastern gate, this gate is not extremely popular. But, some people still choose to leave this way than to travel all the way to the main gate if they are leaving straight from their home. Nonetheless all the rules that apply to the other non-main gates apply to this one and are well kept to.

hazure [外れ]

[ACCESS]: 2 [Identification Required] & 3 [Limited; Pass Must be Acquired]

The only outskirts of the village that are still considered 'part' of the village, though they are not included on any village maps. This part leads directly into the mountains towards the North. This area is the furthest point from the village center, and has a few training grounds of varying sizes to avoid interior village damage for more grand displays of training.

Some training grounds are very simple - circles made of rock and shrubs, others are more complicated with pillars, stones, trees and deep lakes - deeper than they are wide. There are also a few larger building structures that are made as obstacles.

The area is filled with the sound of wind and waterfalls and only a few civilian homes smatter the area, protected by the intense range of mountains. There is an abundant water supply and greenery is just as plentiful. To live here means regular lengthy treks to the village center for grocery trips and general convenience.

The wall here has shinobi at all hours of the day with rather strict security as the main gate to ensure that the outskirts remain secure. To go in and out of the village from the spot is the same procedure as the main gate - which is why not many choose to live here, it is truly a hassle.
