An assignment wasn't something Kyoko got very often especially being the Mizukage's bodyguard, but sometimes it happened especially if he really only needed one bodyguard or simply because there wasn't anyone else to go on the mission. Either way Kyoko didn't mind as she trusted Daichi to do his best to protect the Mizukage and the assignment she was given didn't seem like a particularly hard one. A simple bodyguarding mission, ironic ain't it, of some construction works while they went to their new settlement on the archipelago. [break][break]

What would make this mission more interesting though was her partner for the mission. A newly graduated Genin from the academy. Gure An showed a lot of promise for someone her age which to some degree reminded Kyoko of herself. So to say she would keep a close eye on the girl was an understatement. She didn't want a fresh young face suddenly to get scared off the field of being a shinobi just because their first mission was a disaster. No, she would make sure this mission would go well for the girl so she could be a very talented and strong-willed kunoichi in the future.[break][break]

They would be meeting just at the edge of Kirigakure where one would leave the village to go out into Mizu no Kuni after letting the guards know of their departure. Kyoko would of course get all the paperwork done beforehand and let the guards know she would be leaving with a fresh genin to undergo a mission well in advance. So now she would be simply waiting for An to arrive for the mission to begin. As usual, she would be wearing her normal outfit of choice, despite it not being the most practical of outfits, along with a red cloak to cover herself. This cloak was mainly used to hide most of her weapons from people's eyes since she was someone who relied on them a lot. The biggest issue with this cloak was how obvious it made her stand out, but for the case of this mission standing out wasn't the worst thing for a bodyguard in her opinion.

As An approached the meeting point at the edge of Kirigakure, she couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. This was her chance to prove herself on a real mission, and the fact that she would be working alongside someone as experienced as Kyoko, the Mizukage's bodyguard, added an extra layer of significance to the assignment.

She couldn't help but think back to her training and the values instilled in her by her family. "Practice makes perfect," she silently reminded herself, echoing her nindo.

Kyoko's presence exuded confidence, and An felt a sense of reassurance standing beside such a seasoned shinobi. Taking a moment to bow respectfully, An greeted her partner. "Gurē An reporting for duty, Yamaguchi-senpai. I'm ready for the mission." She paused for a bit, "Though this is my first real mission, and I am quite nervous, is there anything I should take notes of?"

Kyoko couldn't help but smile at the young girl when she said she was nervous. While Kyoko was more of the cold type when it came to missions growing up she understood the fear and nerves that came with the hsinobi lifestyle. So she couldn't blame the young girl for feeling the way she did and gave her a soft smile. "Just keep an eye on your surroundings and you should be fine," she would say giving the young girl a small ruffle on the head. "It's just bodyguard detail and we shouldn't have to worry too much about bandits though if we do be prepared to defend both yourself and our charges," she would look back towards the village after saying this before returning her attention to An. "If you can't protect yourself you can't protect others," Kyoko would give some advice to the young kunoichi thinking back on her failures during missions.[break][break]

"Don't be too worried though as I'll also be here to help you out," Kyoko added giving her another smile to ease any worries that may plague the young girl's mind, "I won't let you fail a mission just because it's your first one." Once all the simple introductions and small talk were done though Kyoko would begin heading out of the village with An in tow. Their meeting point with the merchants and construction workers wouldn't be far outside of Kirigakure since they had a simple workplace just outside the village. This meant the bulk of their mission would be on the road to the archipelago. [break][break]

Finding the person in charge Kyoko would introduce herself and An and explain they would be the ones keeping them safe on their journey. The person in charge a gruff and dingy-looking man would grumble, "Children? Ain't worth the money for protection." This would cause Kyoko to raise an eyebrow in frustration at his words, but she would simply say with a sweetly fake smile, "Since the transaction of service is already in motion we unfortunately can't bring anyone else to fill your personal needs for protection." Another construction worker would say, "Yeah just let them do their job we don't have enough time to wait for substitutions." The leader of the bunch would grumble some more before demanding, "You better be worth the cost." The man didn't seem like he could trust the skill the two of them could bring to the table as he signaled the rest of the group to begin their journey forth. After this exchange, Kyoko would turn to An and say, "Sometimes you have to deal with unruly folk such as this don't take it too personally."

At some point, An's curiosity got the better of her, and she found herself eager to learn more about Kyoko's experiences as a shinobi. The landscape changed gradually as they moved.

Kyoko couldn't help but chuckle at An's response about not taking it too personally though if she was honest Kyoko did take it a bit personally herself. She was the type to have a temper and would show it normally when she was younger and only since becoming a bodyguard was she able to reign in this part of her personality so she would hold a bit of animosity to this man for sure. She would still do her job as she is supposed to of course, but if it wasn't a mission scenario she might just let whoever or whatever attack him and not do anything about it.[break][break]

Whilst on the initial part of their journey Kyoko kept a close eye on An to make sure she was ok, but she could tell the girl was keeping a good eye on her surroundings. This might be more because she was simply enjoying the sights, but hey that meant she was still looking around so it didn't matter to her how she was doing it. Besides so far the trip had been quiet outside of some of the ramblings of the old men of the group and their complaining about not having good help and how lazy their children were at times. After some time though An would begin a conversation with Kyoko and being her sensei at the moment, she didn't mind lending an ear to the younger girl. A coy smile would appear on her face when An asked about clients like him and her experience as a whole as a shinobi. "Well I can't say all clients are the same, but sometimes you do find a few unsavory ones," Kyoko would respond with hushed tones. "As for other times, I don't have a lot to share. I sped through my exams fairly quickly and rose in rank simply because I wanted to follow my brother. Now that we are both bodyguards to the Mizukage it feels like we need to each do our own thing and I'm not sure what to do with my own life going forward." Kyoko would look out on the countryside just thinking of what she wanted to do with her life exactly. Daichi was always her main goal in life and seeing him succeed, but what did she want? "I was also not the talkative type when I was younger and much preferred to do things on my own which proved to be difficult during the exams of course. So honestly if there is any wisdom I would impart to you from my experience find and make a lot of friends so you have a support system with you wherever you go," Kyoko would say with a rather warm feeling surging through her as she said this. Something about teaching An and speaking with the young child made her feel calm and relaxed. Was this how Daichi felt when talking to Kyoko? She would have to ask him later after she got back to Kirigakure.

This kid was cute, to say the least in Kyoko's mind. Maybe being a part of this killing force of the seven swordsmen had blinded her to the innocence of life and how most kids were wide-eyed children for most of their lives before going out on the field and possibly ending the lives of creatures and humans alike. It made Kyoko want to protect this innocence as much as she could and let this child stay a child as long as possible, but at the same time if she stayed innocent forever that could lead to a lot of hardships for the girl too. What a conundrum. [break][break]

Their travels were fairly uneventful for a bit which was a good thing, especially for someone new to missions, but things never stayed quiet and Kyoko's thoughts were confirmed by An's comment. "You might be right," Kyoko replied to An as she felt the surroundings around her feeling too quiet, outside of the merchants and construction works, of course, so as a precaution, Kyoko would activate her special eyes. Glowing slightly crimson, well more than they already were, her eyes would take a look at the surrounding life forces within a ten-kilometer area around her. "Yep," Kyoko would mutter only for An to hear, "We got a count of four unknown bodies following us and watching our movements." [break][break]

Her eyes flickered between the four life forces checking their movements to the best of her ability. "They seem to be waiting for someone to become separated from the group," Kyoko would say before coming up with a fun idea. "Want to try and test your mettle against them and pretend you are simply leaving the group to pick some flowers?" Kyoko would ask knowing full well the girl could take care of herself against these bandits since their life forces didn't seem all that strong.

Kyoko was glad to have An be willing to agree to her suggestion even if it meant putting the poor child in danger, but it's not like she was defenseless. If Kyoko's instincts were correct this child had to have some skill to have gotten this far into the shinobi lifestyle of Kiri, especially with how she knew the academy exam was run at times. Still, she did feel a sense of worry for the child since she was in charge of the girl so hopefully, it wouldn't be too big of a problem for her.[break][break]

When An began leaving the group as quietly as she could Kyoko would also begin to slow her pace from the group too, but not as much to draw attention from the group following them. She simply did it to pretend to take a gander at some of the equipment the merchants were bringing along. Essentially she was making sure she looked like she was doing an inventory check for them while secretly keeping an eye on An and the pursuers. Her special eyes doing all the legwork for this.[break][break]

The four pursuers saw An trail off from the group to look at the flowers and then were honestly hesitant on going for her, but one of the thick-headed thugs was adamant about taking her out since it meant less protection for the merchants and if they were lucky maybe she could be worth something on the black market. All four would appear quickly almost out of nowhere surrounding An had she not known they were coming anyway. To her south was the thug who suggested they go after her. To her west was the only female of the group while opposite her was the youngest of them all. Finally the last of the who appeared to An's north side was probably the thinnest of them all and a glance at the four of them would tell An that the one to her south was the leader of these four.[break][break]

"Well well look who is gonna be prepared for trouble," the black and white-haired man would say mocking the child before him. "We could have made it double if that long-haired cloaked girl was here too," the pink-clad boy would add in rebuttal. "Like those two could protect the caravan from our devastation," the pink-haired thug would say running a hand through his hair. "At least this way they can't unite together with the other people of the nation," the woman said shaking her head in annoyance. "Alright, that's enough words! Musashi! Kojiro! Get her!" the black and white-haired man would declare to the woman and pink-haired boy. "Just surrender now," Kojiro would say pulling out a couple of shurikens. "Or prepare to fight," Musashi said in annoyance. "Yeah, that's right!" the youngest would say in exclamation. This would cause Musashi to roll her eyes before beginning the battle.[break][break]

Musashi starts the fight by casting a genjutsu that would cause An to begin to see in double while Kojiro throws the shuriken in his hands and makes use of the amount of them to use the crumbling star technique against An. The youngest one being quite impatient didn't want to wait till it was his turn to do something so he simply acted without care and ran to go behind An and attempted to jam his finger in her buttocks. The leader of the bunch would shout, "Satoshi! get back in formation! I swear this child is such a burden." [break][break]

The Kai technique flowed through her, disrupting the illusory effects that momentarily clouded her vision. Her eyes narrowed as she concentrated, determined not to fall prey to the psychological tactic.

Kojiro, wielding a handful of shurikens, initiated an attack using the crumbling star technique. An's reflexes took over as she swiftly maneuvered to evade the incoming projectiles. Her nimble movements allowed her to dodge the majority of the shurikens, showcasing her agility and the benefits of her training though a few bits of the incoming shards from the Crumbling Star jutsu did get to her as they covered about a 2 m² radius of ground around her.

However, the impulsive youngest member of the group attempted a reckless maneuver, the crude and inappropriate actions of the youngest thug took An by surprise. An instinctive blend of anger and determination surged within her, fueled by the blatant disrespect. Tightening her left hand's grip on her sheathed katana, An swiftly pivoted, aiming a precise strike with the fan in her right hand that she had drawn just in time at the impudent attacker's weapon hand, simultaneously sidestepping his crude attempt. The pink-hooded boy yelped in pain, retracting his hand, while An maintained her composure. After all, An was not sure - did she need to kill them or just disarm them?

The leader's frustration echoed in his command for Satoshi to return to formation. An's awareness heightened as she assessed the situation. The thugs revealed their lack of discipline, and An seized the opportunity to exploit their disorganization.

Kyoko could see the movement and commotion going on where An was because of her eyes and she couldn't help but be a little worried for the child. Once her fake inspection was done she would sneak out from the caravan to check up on the girl. Sitting in a bunch of trees nearby out of sight from the main commotion she watched the series of events unfold around there. An was holding her own overall, but the sheer numbers would get the best of her if she wasn't careful so Kyoko prepared her weapons just in case she needed to jump in and interfere.[break][break]

The leader of the bunch would watch An dispatch some of the jutsu his crew was using and honestly felt impressed by the young child. She might be a worthy opponent for their crew which meant she would fetch some good coin if they turned her in to the black market. "Hurry and finish her off," the leader would announce still not participating in the fight. The youngest still being reckoned despite being hit by the girl's fan would go on the offensive again this time pulling their hand behind their back and aiming a punch for her gut to cause her to become winded. Simultaneously the woman cast another genjutsu on the girl this time to make it look like Satoshi's attack is fatal against An. Kojiro would look at their leader and ask, "Aren't you going to fight Shigeru?" He was annoyed that they were doing all the dirty work while he simply watched to which Shigeru would respond with, "Why bother? If they can't handle a little girl they are useless to us." This just made Kojiro angry as he pulled out some more shuriken and continued to chuck them at An trying to support the other two.[break][break]

As Kyoko watched and prepped she didn't like what she was seeing. The genjutsu user was taking its toll and was being a menace to An from her vantage point. If they weren't there Kyoko was certain An could take the other two who were fighting on well enough especially the kid who seemed a bit on the reckless side. The numbers weren't in An's favor that's for sure and Kyoko wasn't about to let this situation get any worse than it already had. Taking out Nuibari a focusing chakra into the weapon she launched it towards the genjutsu user with blinding speed. Musashi would soon find herself pierced through her torse nuibari sticking in the ground in front of her. "W-wh-what?" She would stutter as her eyes began flickering close. "It's an ambush!" Shigure would yell as Kyoko would put more chakra into the blade and have herself come crashing into the clearing with the rest of the bandits.[break][break]

The collapse of Musashi would mean the end of the genjutsu placed upon An letting her come back to her senses and once she was back to her normal self Kyoko would command, "Get the other two you fought I'll take care of the leader." Determination and a bit of anger surging through her eyes Kyoko would rush the leader with Nuibari despite them trying to run away and sew the man's arms together. "Damnit!" Shigeru would say looking at Kyoko in fear of who she was, "Who are you?" Kyoko would look down on the man and say, "Guess it doesn't matter since you are about to die anyway." Kyoko pulled the man close to her face and added, "Just call me the seventh sword. Goodbye." After that Kyoko would decapitate the man with Nuibari as his head rolled on the ground painting the flowers red.[break][break]

Putting away her weapon after wiping it down with her cloak, the real reason why she wore a red cloak was to hide the blood stains easily, she awaited for An to take care of her targets while watching carefully with her eyes from a distance. She could tell the outcome of the fresh genin's battle and once she was certain the opponent's life forces were indeed faded or taken out she deactivated her eyes and waited for the girl to catch up to her.[break][break]

It wouldn't be too long of a wait when An reached Kyoko's battlefield, not that it was much of a battle these thugs were barely able to hold a candle to them, and she would apologize for her actions. "Well that's not right," Kyoko would say slightly confused at the girl's actions. "You took on four older and possibly more experienced shinobi and did quite well on your own," Kyoko would walk towards An and place a hand on the girl's head. "You did amazing and despite your troubles, you were able to take out two of them all on your own. I merely provided you back up," Kyoko would say as she ruffled the girl's hair and gave her a calming smile before saying, "You did good kid."[break][break]

Once that was all said and done the two would return to the caravan of merchants and construction workers. The leader of the bunch would criticize them for leaving the company asking what were they paying them for if they were just gonna run off picking flowers. Kyoko would apologize for not bringing up the whole scenario of bandits following them for An's sake and simply continuing their mission to the archipelago. The rest of the trip would go over fine when they reached the dock where the caravan would board a ship and travel to their island home. [break][break]

They would be dismissed and be told their mission was complete now. Kyoko would stick around to make sure all the merchants and construction workers were on the ship and it was gone off in the distance before turning back. Looking at An before starting the journey back to Kirigakure Kyoko would ask, "After we report in for our mission completion let's go get some cake for a successful mission alright?" Once An gave her answer Kyoko would begin the journey home to the village hidden in the mist.
