Hisao did not rise to the bait and so there was a long moment of continued silence from Hisao as the notebook was taken out of his hand. He hoped the man would not go to any of the other pages and luckily he didn’t. Good. Nothing was incriminating per se in the book, only a fool would do that, but there were some personal thoughts in the margins, something that might clue someone in on Hisao’s mostly unspoken thoughts. He did not want someone like Ren to have access to them and getting the book back became a bit of a priority for him.
He eyed the man's ‘natural recovery’ before even ingesting the vial and wondered if he had some ability to combat the poison and if that might have been why he had been willing to do all of this.
"Activated charcoal”
Hisao responded with no particular tone more as a statement than anything. Ren had not explained much of anything and so mirroring his teacher for the day, he did not explain further. If Ren was such an expert he would be able to figure it out on his own.
He reached out and took back the notebook, closing it and after looking over Ren, out of medical curiosity one last time, turned and walked to his bag and started putting his things away. He would have pushed the bag under the table so it was harder to get to or fall over and would then have gone back to the setup he had made earlier. He wordlessly started cleaning up after himself. He turned the bottle with the small black pills towards Ren, effectively showing him the label. Insofar as it was possible Hisao would have silently cleaned and put all the stuff away. He was used to doing this part as it was about a third of what he did these days at the hospital anyway. For Hisao, the teaching part of today had already concluded and once he was done would have looked for any excuse to leave and go home. He had never wanted to leave hospital grounds as much as today but kept those thoughts on the inside, focusing on just getting the final few tasks done so that thought could become reality.
He would have willingly opened his mouth one last time, bowing his head respectfully at Ren.
"..Thank you for today's lesson, Guré Ren-Sensei.”
He was not going to make up apologies for lacking skills, thinking they would likely just ring hollow as bad excuses. Once everything had been said and done, Hisao realised that even if he had survived his fair share of close calls because of poisons in the past, there was still so much for him to learn. While he was not inclined to start poisoning himself or others just to learn more, there certainly was something here for him to delve into.
