basic information

NAME: Yuki Kogashi
AGE: 33
GENDER: AMAB Agender
BIRTHDAY: December 25, 990
VILLAGE: Yuki
CLAN: x Yuki
RANK: Elite Jounin
POSITION: GOKA Operative
OTHER ALIAS: [NICKNAME] KOGA

[BINGO/VILLAGE] SHIRO TOGE NO YUKI or "White Thorn of Snow" is only half of what was once the Rosebush of Yukigakure. Without his counterpart, this would be a sad reminder of its lost friend - if it remembered any of that.

appearance

HEIGHT: 5'10" | cm
WEIGHT: 150lbs | kg

Inhuman. Kogashi is otherworldly, not quite from this realm - they're almost there, and the similarities between them and another human are uncanny, but they're just that; uncanny. They are a little too smooth, a little too all-white. Alien. Koga is spindly, lithe, with a frame that is both narrow and sharp. Their shoulders are thin, but its jaw is strong. Its chest is broad, but their torso is long, the ridges of each rib visible beneath milky skin. Despite its height, Koga gives off the impression of inarguably small - its hands, feet, thin legs and arms, their narrow hips. Koga wears a petite face with large features. Tall, slanted yellow eyes sit on either side of a blunt nose, beneath straight eyebrows. Their lips are barely brighter than their white skin. The perfect Yuki's only blemish is a freckle on the right side of their chin.

Koga is indescribably handsome, almost intimidatingly so. His angled features are complimented by his bizarre haircut; his fringe is long, framing his face in luscious, snow white locks that fall well past his chest. The rest, the mop of silver hair, is cut neat and short, feathered in the back. Koga's hair is barely a shade off from his creamy, porcelain skin, making him look almost amalgous in the glowing light.

A glaring contrast to its vessel, Kogashi wears nearly all black, and hardly shows skin. They prefer long-sleeve turtlenecks, leaving only a line of throat exposed and its long, spidery fingers and their painted nails. The only thing colorful upon it are buckles of silver, often lacing its tech-style pants. It wears form-fitting articles, uncomfortable in unrestrictive garments. Even when off duty, he wears the modest - sometimes he will don layers, so maybe an oversized tee over a turtleneck. It has a sort of gothic grunge aesthetic.

Their face is rather showing, but that is to say when it actually feels an emotion it might be present on their face - but it often goes without, so they appear stoic.

personality

NINDO: "Fate will guide my future."

Everything feels new and familiar all at once. Kogashi works on instinct, finding that their body and mind do the work for them. They have learned a few things about this vessel and the shinobi who once possessed it. He liked meat and sweets, he was a man of many feats, a skilled ninjutsu artist and a man of his rank for a reason. He was also prone to bouts of melancholy, and harbored an unholy longing for something faraway and bright.

Kogashi remembers none of its context.

Now, they are a new human getting used to the world it has already known for three decades. It navigates with curiosity, always seeking out new information about the universe, and itself. They have a fascination for history and lore, with their favorite passtime simply being reading old tablature. Its fondness for information extends to the people around it, and sometimes evolves into a genuine fondness for that person they are so intrigued by. Kogashi has a strange disconnect from relationships, often viewing others more objectively than emotionally, and its sentimental values are skewed due to a lack of memory all together. Because they do not know what was important to the original Kogashi, they search for new importance, obsessed with the concept of destiny and purpose. Kogashi wants desperately to know where they are meant to be, and for what they were created. Even further, they separate themself entirely from the host of the vessel's memories, feeling more like a newborn parasite than the respectable man he harnesses the shape of.

This dissonance in person could almost be misconstrued as some type of multi-personal mental illness, and there are some elements of truth to this - a small voice sometimes breaks out, begging the parasite to remember, to act a certain way and remember certain faces. The small voice wants to reach out and touch its world again, but the parasite has taken over. The host is only a murmur. It is not malevolent; Kogashi does not mean to be a parasite, to encroach on the memories of this body. More than anything, Koga feels some level of guilt for not remembering - it makes them feel foreign, and oftentimes rude, as they can never recpriocate the embrace of an old friend.

At first, Kogashi was not used to sarcasm, jokes, or anything of the like. Social cues rang dead to it, and fitting into crowds was an impossibility. After a year or so, Koga has learned how to read humans a little better, as well as share laughs with them. Unfortunately, it is less practiced and more textbook, sometimes coming off as disingenuous. Koga struggles to meet social expectations, but it is fascinated by them nonetheless - the dynamics between people and people, people and pets, people and the earth and moon. The different subtleties that come with being human, and the minute expressions and body languages that give away a person's true colors. These are the things Kogashi studies, but cannot find itself wholly apart of.

So far away from community, Kogashi is in its own world. Without the pain of having lost its family and dearest friend, Kogashi is none the wiser, and often confused when told stories of these pasts. It is this inability to yearn for that old life which does upset Kogashi.

history

[past - 990]
Yuki Shubichi grew up with strict parents, a rigid day-to-day plan, and very little freedom. Groomed for shinobihood, Shubichi never expected to be anything more than a tool for Yukigakure - until she met Aoifu Kino.

Kino was a handsome jounin twice her senior, but she was never taken advantage of. Shubichi was in control, wrapped the clanless Kino around her finger and pulled him in to lock him down tight. She gives birth to a healthy baby Kogashi at the age of twenty-four, but neither parent retires.

[990 - 997]
Kogashi is juggled between his two working shinobi parents and nannies and babysitters, hardly able to grow attached to one before the next replaces them. It's hard to bond with his working parents, but as he grows older he also grows to understand the importance of their work. At as young as three, Kogashi is a cheerleader and a delight, clapping for his parents and bubbling with excitement whenever they return home. Young Kogashi looks up to his parents and names them heroes, vowing to be a ninja in the same fashion.

So he is allowed to begin training young and, at only five, discovers the manipulation of his chakra nature and thus his kekkei genkai.

Kogashi meets a young boy by accident. Having been playing in the woods, the boy around the Yuki's small age finds himself trapped under a weighted blanket of snow that had fallen upon him from the treetops. In a twist of fate, Kogashi was training in the area and happened to hear the distressed calls. Utilizing his kekkei genkai to disturb the snow, the young victim is freed, introducing himself as Nakajima Zero. The two boys become inseparable in a short time, spending the next few years totally enthralled by each other. They plan a future together and train nearly every day, as well as introduce their families.

It's not long before the Nakajima and Yuki families create a steadfast bond. Zero's parents, Forte and Sansa, become easy friends with Shubichi and Kino, even if they are not ninja themselves.

[998 - 1004]
Kogashi convinces Zero to enroll into the Yukigakure academy with him, which would separate them from their families living on the countryside and leave them with only each other. Based on the promise that they'd never part ways, Zero ships off to the village alongside his eager friend and the two are placed into the care of a jounin, who gives them a home to stay in and food to eat but perhaps none of the affection that might come with a typical guardian. Kizuro, their sensei, does very little for them outside of the bare necessities.

Even though they are left mostly to themselves, Kogashi and Zero do not slack or pull any punches - even at around the age of eight, the two exemplify excellent ethic. They are studious, work together to overcome problems, and participate energetically in class. Neither of them are good at everything, but both of them are good at something, and so together they work at honing their best grades.

As they grow, so too do their peers - and with that growth comes a fascination for a handsome young Kogashi, often leaving Zero out of the limelight. The pair do not break over it, instead forming a stronger bond, sealing out everyone around them in favor of each other. It's almost isolating, and there are some rumors that spread about them - but it does not bother either of them, and they continue working together.

Graduating at thirteen, Kogashi is relieved to be placed on the same Genin Team 10 as his Nakajima Zero. The two rejoice, only to discover their own Kizuro will be their sensei. It's a little off-putting, considering they technically live with him - but there is no foul play. Kizuro does his best to instill sound morals, typically leading by example. Kogashi sees much of his father in Kizuro, thus develops an attachment to him. One that Zero cannot understand; he does not trust Kizuro wholeheartedly. For the first time, disagreement spikes between the young boys. Their female third teammate, Yurei Iski, finds herself in the middle of one of their arguments - in a split-second moment, Iski's arm is broken as she tries to separate the scuffle.

Kizuro imparts a new lesson by stripping them off the team, placing them both on Gate Guard duty. An effective punishment, as it offers the boys a moment to breathe. Nearly three years into their geninhood, and six months into their bickering, the two make up, already inseparable again. The two sixteen year olds shed Kizuro's guardianship and rent an apartment together. Only two months later, they're getting ready to participate in the Chuunin Exams.

[1004 - 1009]
The 1004 Winter Chuunin Exams are scheduled only days before Kogashi's fifteenth birthday. Zero is nervous, but Kogashi is confident. He drags his friend along by the hand, but the two are separated for the first round of the exams - left on opposing teams, the two are caught in a race against each other and the clock to overcome countless hurdles. Even though the two are worried about each other, they strive to make ends meet, putting their best foot forward for their respective teams.

In the second round, a typical tournament style event, Kogashi is pitted against his old teammate, Iski. To his surprise, she holds no grudges against him or Zero, and is in fact glad to see him. In the end though, Kogashi wins with overwhelming speed - the two shake hands, only for Iski to pull him into a hug. "I hope you're taking care of each other," she had whispered, and he hadn't really grasped what she meant.

Zero, on the other hand, does not win his battle. Kogashi wins the penultimate, with Zero cheering from the stadium.

Kogashi fails to secure the final victory.

Still, the two boys are better for the experience - and for their cunning and teamwork, for Kogashi's tenacity and for Zero's heralding leadership, the two are promoted to Chuunin together.

Placed on the same Operations Team 4 without a third, Kogashi and Zero worked alone together beneath Yoi Ten'nosei. Ten'no is a vibrant, sleek woman with a pearlescent aura and gradient pink to purple to blue eyes. She is a beauty, a strength never seen before to the boys, and she has the blood of unicorns coursing her veins. She teaches much to Kogashi and Zero, leading them with a soft, guiding hand and blazing staff. At first, they are nothing special - they are sent upon countless missions, from the easy breezy to the bloody and gorey. Knuckle-deep in guts, over time, the two build a name for themselves as impressive shinobi and practiced killers.

Years go by like this, and to be honest, Kogashi gets sick of it. Nothing is as it should be - the ninja world is cruel and cold. He would be lucky if be made it to twenty-five; he doesn't want to watch his friends die, he doesn't want to see Zero die.

Kogashi keeps these conflicting feelings to himself, but Zero can tell something is off. Not that Kogashi is an expert at hiding his feelings - he grows increasingly deprecating and begins sinking his sorrows away in imported herbs and brewed mead. Falling over the edge of hedonism, Koga loses himself briefly, even distancing himself from Zero. This attitude is only made worse when the two are appointed by the daimyo as new jounin members of the GOKA for their vigor and commitment to the community.

[1010 - 1015]
Kogashi and Zero's names are sprouting through the village, with many referring to them as the Rosebush of Yuki. Zero, Bara, the rose - the impressive shinobi fighting tooth and nail with katon amidst the snow. Kogashi, Toge, the rose's thorn - the dangerous shinobi whose ice is as sharp as a blade. Together they are nearly unbeatable, deployed as a couple even on high-stakes, typically single-man missions. They are considered wholly together, and when one is called for a meeting with the daimyo, it is often expected the other will be accompanying.

Kogashi, still hanging off the edge, takes his job less and less seriously. This would change, but at what cost?

Even though Kogashi's parents live outside the village, they are still respectable ninja operating outside of Yukigakure no Sato - so Kogashi is able to see them often, unlike Zero, whose parents were never ninja. That's why it's so odd when a month goes by without so much as a word from Shubichi or Kino. Alongside Zero, the two travel to the small fishing village in search of answers.

After finding out the house is empty, the two ask around - only to be told that there has been no sign of Kogashi's parents since they left for a mission two weeks prior. When the two return home, they find one of the Tower's officials already waiting for then at the door - only to deliver the news that both his parents' bodies have been recovered. Kogashi breaks down, falling apart in Zero's arms as he howls, vowing once again to be as great - even greater - than his parents had been.

Increasingly dependent on his partner, Kogashi begins struggling with his feelings, and a newfound (or had it always been there?) attraction and attachment to his best friend. He sits on these truths instead of sharing them, afraid of losing Zero too. Luckily, Zero does not shy away from Kogashi, and the two navigate a sort of homoerotic subtextual dynamic without ever actually acting on anything. They are undeniably close, and sometimes Kogashi's nightmares even find him in Zero's bed. Their love for each other is deep and profound, blooming forevermore.

It takes years to overcome the loss of his parents, and years after that to come back from the hedonistic lifestyle he had been living. There are days where he can't stop himself from reaching for the bottle, and other days where he feels confident and indestructible. This is sometimes dictated by his relationship with Zero, whom he relies a little too heavily on for emotional support. A willing crutch; it's almost as if Zero wants to be there holding up all of his friend's weight, never once showing resentment or indicating that he finds it burdensome.

Kogashi's feelings are only exacerbated.

[1016 - 1021]
Life goes on. The two remain Yukigakure's Rosebush, petal and thorn. Nothing incredible happens, except that they survive. They spend years operating within the GOKA, diligent enough to make some impact on Yuki namelessly.

Zero meets a woman, much to Kogashi's dismay.

In a feeble attempt at keeping Zero to himself, Kogashi overbooks their missions, constantly bombards him with attention and affection, is always there. Zero makes no move against it, pleasant as always, but he continues to spend what little time he can with this Takayama Mazua. She is invited into their home; alternatively, Kogashi is invited on their dates, much to Mazua's own chagrin. The two develope a sort of rivalry, fighting each other for Zero's attention - who is none the wiser to this little game they play.

This back and forth goes on for some time, until ultimately Zero proposes to the civilian woman, threatening Kogashi's way of life, both on and off duty. If Zero has children with Mazua, would he retire?

Zero moves into a home within Yukigakure in the central district, leaving Kogashi the apartment. Kogashi is at least grateful that Zero does not bow away from his work, instead putting a new foot forward in an attempt at making their home lives comfortable. Slowly, he was sinking more and more time into his new wife.

Kogashi struggles, on the edge of diving back into that hedonism which caresses all his woes. Zero does not understand, only sees that his friend is thrumming with something anxious. The two are never apart for too long, and sometimes Zero even spends nights with his childhood friend - it is not enough for Kogashi, whose pining only multiplies by the day. Looking for something to delve into that isn't Intoxication and bodies, Kogashi turns his sights on ninjahood. Working hard comes naturally to him, and when there is a beat, a moment to relax - he loses himself in training, pushing his body to the limits to feel truly alive. For the first time, the Yuki starts taking solo missions. At first he is nervous, but getting into the swing of it comes shortly, shifting his attitude. Now it is Kogashi pulling away from his dear friend; a necessary action to preserve his heart.

Impressive work does not go unnoticed, and it is by the daimyo that Koga is dubbed elite. The GOKA captain explains that the Yuki should be next in line for their own position.

With nothing else to look forward to in life, Kogashi accepts the path laid out for him. Reluctantly, he shares the news with Zero over dinner. To say the least, Koga is surprised when his friend is only elated and happy for him, ushering him into the future with a warm smile. Kogashi's heart cracks. It only shatters when Zero then shares that his Mazua is pregnant, and he hopes to take some indefinite time off of his duties once the baby arrives.

[1022 - present]
Lonesome jounin in his home alone, with nothing to live for but the village and snow and ice. It's cold and bitter. Kogashi begins risking his life by taking the violent and extreme missions, often alone and sometimes with other jounin, but hardly ever his old friend. Glimpses of an old way of life shine through as he spends more and more time inebriated or in brothels. Truly living like there's no tomorrow, Kogashi does not shy away from another high risk mission.

The only difference with this mission is that it's estimated to take at least a month in enemy territory - he would need someone to watch his back. Kogashi trusts only one man for the job, and Zero is not hard to convince. Even though he was on the precipice of retiring the headband, Kogashi's old friend agrees to accompany him on this daunting mission. He kisses his wife and his newborn goodbye; the last time they would ever see him.

Ambushed under the moonlight a fortnight into their mission, Kogashi and Zero are taken by surprise. It's not easy to get the drop on two trained jounin, the pair putting up a great fight. It is only because they are outnumbered that Zero falls, and Kogashi takes a blow to the head.

Blacked out.

Kogashi wakes a month later in the Yukigakure hospital with no recollection of. Anything.

The doctors tell them it has trauma related amnesia induced by blunt force. The doctors tell them its name is Yuki Kogashi.

Kogashi is put through a multitude of tests and therapies to no avail. The Yuki simply will not remember its past. It is put through battle simulations, only to find that it is still equipped with fighting prowess. It will work on instinct, recalling how to respond to threats as if on reflex. It is deemed sufficient enough to maintain its status, should it want to, though with a lapse in his destined position as captain. Assuming this is the correct path, Kogashi agrees.

They are escorted by a jounin for some time, only to get them accustomed again to the world, the village. Kogashi shows an impressive understanding of the world around it, but only instinctually - it cannot conjure up rhyme or reason, only basic practical utilization.

Kogashi operates robotically, exploring with a sense of duty. They have to check in with the hospital every six months for an evaluation, to track the progress of their amnesia. To this day, they do not remember who Nakajima Zero is or what happened the night of the ambush.

fighting style

Kogashi has trained to be an excellent killer, a marveled ninjutsu master, and quick thinker. These things come naturally to the body, and Koga moves exclusively through reflex, no memory of what its original fighting style may have looked like. It relies heavily on its speed and intellect, analyzation and quick processing of the battle at hand being its main prerogative. Tracking the battle and correctly assessing where an altercation will lead in an attempt at mapping out multiple approaches, Kogashi is an active thinker even in the midst of the fight.

It moves constantly in attempt at keeping a fast paced environment, or to disorient its opponent. They utilize their kekkei genkai's chakra nature almost exclusively, whether it be by employing a blizzard, crafting projectiles, encasing their body and strikes in solid ice, or conjuring a shield or an icy sword to close the gap for close combat fighting. When a battle is truly life or death, they are methodical and cold, unafraid of pulling cheap tricks to overpower and maim. It relies on Tajū Kage Bunshin no Jutsu [Multiple Shadow Clone Technique] in extreme cases, using a sea of clones to eradicate an enemy.

When it is not in the lead, Kogashi focuses mainly on speed - outpacing, outmaneuvering. Dodging is as important as hitting hard. And Koga can hit hard; but his speed sometimes nullifies the need for intense counterattacking. Koga taps into his enhanced speed to remain a step ahead.

Although Kogashi's body was trained to keep up with all styles of combat, it shows a distinct lack of proficiency in fuinjutsu, whether it be utilizing or recognizing. It is third best at Genjutsu, but is prone to its stronger illusions.

SPECIAL ABILITIES

Hyōton
Just like his mother, Kogashi learned how to utilize Hyōton at a very young age and has since learned to manipulate this chakra with practiced ease. They are able to freely create and manipulate ice, allowing them to form various shapes with it and thus being very versatile in battle. Kogashi also shows high resistance to even the most extreme low temperatures and is immune to their own techniques.

Handless Hyōton
Being so in touch with the Yuki's kekkei genkai, Hyōton, Koga has learned how to manipulate its icy chakra without the use of handseals, calling upon the moisture in the air with prowess alone. They can cast Hyōton jutsu of their rank or lower handlessly.

Enhanced Chakra Reserves
Kogashi has pushed its body, soul, and chakra to the limits countless times both in actual combat and training. This has stretched out their constraints, deepening its pool of available chakra. Not only can they use more high rank jutsu than the average shinobi at a time, they can also fire off low ranking jutsu in quick succession without making much of an impact on their reserves.

Enhanced Speed
Kogashi is agile and quick, light on his feet as if he is made up of the same hollow bones as a bird. He flies around the battlefield at breathtaking speeds, and often outpaces even shinobi of his own rank.

Enhanced Reflexes
Not only is Kogashi fast, his reflexes are unprecedented - because he is essentially re-learning everything he already knows, Koga's body works on nothing but reflexes. They are trained to react to the slightest movement, to counter most if not all incoming attacks, as well as respond to multiple threats at a time.

Genius
Without its memories, Kogashi is nothing more than a walking encyclopedia of logical reasoning, unbiased perception, and muscle-memory intellectual instinct. It is able to process and analyze presented information quickly, as well as store copious volumes of knowledge. It does not rely so much on feelings as it does rationality. They are always on the pursuit for more knowledge.
