"Please head over to Kagamino no Shi and set up our most formidable defensive systems there." That was what Shō's superior instructed him in the morning. With a weary sigh, he reflected on the number of missions he had recently undertaken, feeling the weight of exhaustion settle in as he sat in the middle of the inn.

As he sipped the same old hot tea in the same old inn, the receptionist just helped him to post his mission notice on the board. Shō was seeking companions for this mission which, as mentioned, required them to install a defensive system in the Kagamino Village. While teammate was not mandatory in this particular mission, having a partner would be beneficial.

Aside from alleviating the monotony of the long journey, he saw this as a good mission opportunity to be shared with the others. Outstation missions were pretty rare, and installation of a defence system was even rarer. This would be a great experience to everyone regardless of their rank, offering them a chance to delve deeper into the workings of that village and also helping them to build wider connections.

Also, secretly, Shō harboured the hope of recruiting someone to the Kamenoko Mamori, if not the Suiryu Butai.

Recognizing Gure Sho's handwriting on the mission board sparked a quick decision in Amaya. The familiarity of Sho's script was a welcome sight, reminding Amaya of the other man’s assistance in his training and their successful mission. Without hesitation, he took the posting, skimming the details briefly. Joining Sho on another mission felt like a natural response to try and thank him for his partnership. [break][break]

The mission outlined was a departure from their previous high-stakes, combat-heavy mission. This time, their task was more constructive. They were to assist in setting up defensive structures outside the village, a vital but less combative endeavour. While Amaya revelled in the chaos and challenge of direct conflict, like when they had taken down several pirate ships in an instance. Even if he hadn’t been afforded the opportunity to play with them just a bit more. The quiet importance of fortification was not something he would pass up.

Amaya located Sho exactly where he expected to find him, a serene figure amidst the bustle of the inn, sipping tea with an air of tranquillity that seemed to shield him from the surrounding noise. "Gure Sho,” Amaya greeted formally, taking a seat across from him. The contrast between them was stark—Sho's calm demeanour seemed almost to mirror Amaya's own often stormy presence, making Sho appear as his perfect counterbalance.[break][break]

While Shō savored his tea, a familiar figure approached him, casting a welcome shadow over the table. It was Shizu Amaya! Shō's social awkwardness surfaced as always, prompting him to respond with a polite bow.

He was unaccustomed to recognition, often feeling as if his achievements echoed in a void, unheard and unnoticed. Sho was the exception, his words a rare affirmation of Amaya's efforts. Had others withheld their praise because he hadn’t yet been promoted, or did he simply have no eyes on him? [break][break]

"Thank you," Amaya murmured, his voice low, offering an informal bow as he set down the empty teacup. Sho had shared several observations about Amaya's performance—reflections Amaya himself had silently acknowledged after the exams.[break][break]

Eager to escape the crowded inn's murmur, Sho suggested they move to a quieter spot to delve deeper into the mission details. Grateful for Amaya's assistance, Shō responded to him with a thankful bow before bidding farewell and making his way home to prepare for the mission. But before departing, he made sure to inform Amaya of the meeting point and time at the port, "Let's meet up later at the port."

Arriving home, Shō wasted no time in packing his belongings, a few days worth of rations and clothes, before heading to his headquarters to coordinate the transportation of the necessary weapons to the ship. With everything in motion, he returned to the port, waiting patiently for Amaya at the familiar spot where they had met for their previous mission.

This time, however, there was a notable difference. Instead of boarding a commercial vessel, they would be travelling all the way from Kirigakure to Kagamino no Shi by boarding Kamenoko Mamori's advanced ship. The decision was necessary due to the sensitive nature of the weapons they were transporting, requiring utmost confidentiality.

As Shō stood by the port, watching the huge waves lap against the stormy shore, he couldn't help but feel a sense of caution. However, with all the ship's staff exclusively from the Kamenoko Mamori, he knew they were in good hands.
