As the sun rose over fake Takigakure, Touwa awoke within the comfortable confines of the clan compound. His room was decorated with traditional Takigakure decor and bathed in the faint sounds of morning activity from the busy village outside. Kuro remained asleep as Touwa felt a sense of purpose pulsing through his veins. Today was his first mission as a Genin, and he was fortunate to be on the same team as Kaoru.

He wore his usual attire and made sure that Ruteki was securely fastened to his belt. "Couldn't you have woken up any later, Touwa-san?" Rui jested. "A perfectly good morning now ruined," Touwa shot back, gathering his essentials. Touwa carefully secured his kunai pouch, ensuring quick access to his arsenal in case of need. He felt the weight of his equipment against his body, which was comforting.

Exiting his quarters, Touwa navigated the labyrinthine corridors of the compound, which were designed so for safety reasons. As he emerged into the courtyard, where his fellow clan members were preparing for their respective missions, Touwa searched for Kaoru's presence. Although he spotted him, Touwa refrained from waving, wanting to maintain his composed and professional demeanor. After all, he had to uphold his calm and collected nature, particularly with so many watchful eyes upon him.

Tokonatsu Kaoru

Kaoru was the sort to rise well before the sun to get his training in early and make sure he had gotten a good workout. He had a bit of a reputation as a layabout amongst the more gossipy members of the clan, but that was just because he was done with most of his responsibilities by midday, and ready to nap the rest of the sunlight away. As such, Touwa’s moment of waking was several hours after Kaoru’s own, which meant that the older teen was ready and waiting as his younger companion.

He had thought of doing something silly in order to rile Touwa up and watch the other boy flutter around in agitation, which was always cute funny, but this was the other’s first proper mission as a Genin, and he couldn’t bring himself to cause Touwa distress on such an important milestone. He’d likely feel bad for it, and really, there would be other times that he could cause mischief.

Instead the elder Tokonatsu waited casually but relatively formally for his new partner to emerge, a slight quirking of his lips the only break from his own mask of ‘perfect shinobi’, well that and the slight slouch he held that was not quite yet deserved but said ‘fuck around and find out’ to anyone watching. The mission itself would be one of the more interesting ones that he had done in a while, even if he was going to be a little bored with it anyway.

"Yo,” he stated with a casual wave, looking Touwa up and down, "ready to go?”

It was really hard not to tease.

Touwa's gaze met Kaoru's as he emerged into the courtyard, his expression composed but with a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes as his gaze swept over Kaoru from head to toe, his eyes lingering for a moment longer than strictly necessary. He couldn't help but admire the way Kaoru's physique seemed sculpted by the gods themselves, each muscle toned and defined beneath his clothing.

With a smirk playing on his lips, Touwa replied, "Of course, I'm ready, Kaoru-senpai. Unlike some, I don't require a pre-mission nap to function." He couldn't resist a playful remark, knowing full well that Kaoru had likely been up for hours before him.

As they prepared to depart, Touwa's stomach emitted a faint growl, reminding him that he hadn't yet had breakfast. Glancing toward the village's bustling streets, he suggested, "How about we grab a quick bite at one of the stalls on the way? It wouldn't do for us to embark on a mission with empty stomachs, especially when we'll undoubtedly be saving the village from imminent danger or some such dramatic scenario." Touwa tried to downplay his embarrassment of having Kaoru hear his stomach grumble by twisting his words, suggesting that the reason for the detour would be for their own good and not because Touwa was very hungry.

"I need naps to stay this beautiful," Kaoru replied, flicking his hair dramatically as though he were some pompous noble lady, a saccharine expression on his face as he held the pose for a moment. It was perhaps ruined by the fact that one hand rested casually on his swords, though he doubted he was going to need them for this mission, he certainly didn't go anywhere without them.

He couldn't help but snort slightly at the sounds coming from Touwa's stomach, reaching out to poke the other boy's flat belly teasingly.

"You should always make sure to eat when you can, especially before a mission. Never know when you might go without after all~" he remarked casually as he turned to lead the other out into the village, "which means not claiming to be ready when you haven't had anything to eat Touwa-kun~"

"Well, I guess we need to make sure to fill you up before we go on our village-saving mission of great importance!" he declared as they stepped out into the busy streets of the fake Taki, "what sort of food are you feeling like oh starving one? I'm pretty sure I can find whatever it is you're craving, been here often enough."

"So, Kaoru-senpai, do you have any idea where we should start with this mission? I was thinking we could begin by talking to the villagers who reported the 'thefts'. They might have some clues about where these fake heirlooms are being kept or who might be behind it."

"I wouldn't want to be swamped by admirers if it got out," was the older boy's flippant reply to Touwa's teasing, seemingly unconcerned with the attempts to taunt him. He also didn't seem to be particularly bothered to follow after the younger boy towards whatever food appealed most to him, the redhead unconcerned what he ate in most situations since food was food and it all fuelled his body in the end.

"Yakitori is not typically a breakfast food," he observed with a shrug as he watched the vendor start to cook the skewers, his own breakfast usually consisting of a large bowl of rice, miso soup with tofu and natto, and pickled vegetables. Still, he wasn't going to say no to some extra protein after the training he had just gone through.

"Yeah, usually you gotta meet with the client first to discuss something like a theft, and see what they say about the whole thing. Then you have at least some sorta idea where to start your search. We wouldn't get far trying to start an investigation without doing that," he replied to the question as he waited for the food to finish cooking, "from there it's a matter of figuring out what's true and what might be bullshit, and following the leads we get."

Skewers in hand, he plopped down on the bench next to Touwa and began to ate, not really tasting the food as he mechancially chewed on it. He registered it as being pretty decent quality, but right now it was fuel to feed the burning chakra within him more than it was something to enjoy.

Still, he had a pleased expression on his face, though more for the company than the food.

Arriving at the client's house, they knocked on the door and were greeted by an elderly man with a worried expression. He ushered them inside, leading them to a small sitting room where he began to recount his tale.

"It was a priceless heirloom," the old man began, his voice quivering slightly. "A family treasure passed down through generations. But last night, it was stolen right from under our noses." Touwa exchanged a glance with Kaoru, his expression a mix of skepticism and curiosity. "Can you describe the heirloom for us?" he asked, his tone firm but polite, though a hint of sarcasm lingered in his eyes.

The old man nodded, describing a small, ornate box made of dark wood, inlaid with intricate silver patterns. "It contained a precious gem," he added. "But I fear the thief might have already sold it or traded it away. If you want to find it, you might need to search the market stalls. The thieves around here are quick to offload stolen goods." Touwa nodded thoughtfully. "We'll start our search there, then," he said, rising to his feet. "Thank you for your time, sir. Rest assured, we'll retrieve your heirloom."

As they left the house, Touwa turned to Kaoru. "His story was as polished as that heirloom he described. But it's a starting point. The market stalls should give us some leads if nothing else." At the same time a voice echoed in Touwa's mind, "Agreed, his acting wasn't the best. Even you could have done better... or maybe not. Hahaha." Touwa rolled his eyes.

They made their way to the bustling marketplace, the air filled with the sounds of haggling and the scents of various goods. Touwa scanned the area. "Let's split up and ask around. Look for anyone who seems nervous or out of place. And keep an eye out for that box or the gem he mentioned." He flashed Kaoru a confident, almost affectionate grin. "I bet we’ll have this wrapped up in no time. Let’s see who can find the first clue, shall we? Kaoru-senpai~" With that, he headed towards the nearest stalls, his demeanor all business, worthy of a Tokonatsu, as he began his inquiries. Approaching a vendor selling trinkets, Touwa leaned in, his tone casual but insistent. "Morning. I'm looking for a small, ornate box. Dark wood, silver inlays. Seen anything like that recently?"

The vendor shook his head, but Touwa didn't miss the flicker of recognition in his eyes. "If you know something, now's the time to speak up," he said, his voice low and edged with authority, his confidence almost overwhelming. The vendor hesitated, then nodded slightly. "I might have seen something like that a few stalls down. Some shady types were trying to sell it off this morning."

Kaoru followed after Touwa without any complaint, happy to let the younger boy take the lead in the mission. After all, if there wasn't any fighting he wasn't particularly interested in the whole affair so having someone who would actually give a crap was a nice change of pace. His last partner hadn't exactly been the type to take the lead either, so now things would get done and all he'd have to do is what he was told to.

At least until it came to a fight.

The client was like many of the ones for these sort of missions, and Kaoru rolled his eyes when Touwa looked back at him, the redhead completely unimpressed with the old man and his story, not saying anything until they were back out of the building as he rested his hands behind his head, "I wasn't paying a lotta attention, but did the old many say what kind of 'precious' stone his heirloom had?" As far as he knew the guy didn't, but he didn't want to embarrass Touwa by pointing out the missed detail either. Considering the nature of the mission, he was letting the younger teen make potential mistakes without him in the name of learning.

As they made their way to the market, he simply inclined his head at Touwa's instructions and stepped away to look through the stalls himself. He didn't try too hard to find the object they were looking for just yet, instead scanning what was on sale as he tried to see if there was something interest. Buying something quickly and pocketing it, he turned at Touwa's sign as he moved towards the stall being indicated, moving in a languidly casual fashion as he started examining the indicated stall in order to see if he could spot something that looked about right for the described item.

The vendor, a wiry man with a shifty gaze, seemed to tense up under their scrutiny. "Should we ask this guy a few questions, though? He looks like he might know something."

Touwa stepped closer to the vendor. "Good morning," he began, his voice calm but firm. "We're looking for a particular item. A small, ornate box made of dark wood with silver inlays. Have you seen anything like that around here?" The vendor's eyes darted nervously, and he shook his head. "No, haven't seen anything like that. Sorry."

Touwa's expression remained calm, but his eyes bore into the vendor's with an intensity that made the man shift uncomfortably. "Really? Because we've heard that some shady types were trying to sell a box that matches that description just this morning. Maybe you can think a bit harder?"

Touwa gave a small, satisfied nod, slipping the vendor a few more coins. "Thanks for your help. If you remember anything else, let us know." He turned to Kaoru, his expression serious but triumphant. "Let's head to the east end and see if we can pick up their trail."

As they moved through the bustling market, Touwa kept his eyes peeled for any sign of the thieves or the heirloom. He glanced at Kaoru, "I think we're on the right track. Keep an eye out for anyone acting suspicious. These guys are probably still around, trying to find a buyer." As they neared the east end of the market, the crowd began to thin out slightly, and the atmosphere grew a bit more tense. Touwa noticed a group of rough-looking men huddled near the back of the market, casting furtive glances in his direction.

His pulse quickened, and he signaled Kaoru subtly by tilting his head to indicate the group. This was it—the final piece of the puzzle. "Let's go," he mouthed to Kaoru quietly. Without a wait Ruiteki took the form of a flute in Touwa's hands, ready for whatever was to come next.

He didn't need to say a thing, just grinning in a slightly feral manner over Touwa's shoulders, allowing a fragment of his bloodthirst to bleed into his expression as he watched the merchant and settled in for some subconscious intimidation. He was the leashed dog along with his haughty young master, and between the two of them it seemed that the merchant crumbled rather quickly.

With the next location given, he followed after the smaller genin while maintaining the air of casual menace that he had adopted, content to continue following Touwa's lead and getting this mission over and done with. As they approached the group of unkempt men milling around he felt himself tensing up slightly in anticipation, one hand resting casually on his sword in preparation for potential violence.

He couldn't help but hope that it would lead to some sort of fight, but he knew better than to expect it, besides, this was Touwa's first mission and he was going to do exactly as he was told and let it play out to whatever end. His teammate needed to get more experience after all, and this was one way that he could help by providing support without being overbearing.

Touwa didn't miss a beat, maintaining his calm exterior. "Look, I'm not here to cause trouble. Just trying to retrieve something that doesn't belong to you. If you cooperate, this can go smoothly for everyone involved." The scruffy man glanced at his companions, clearly weighing his options. Before he could respond, another man, shorter and stockier, stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. "And what if we don't feel like cooperating?" he growled.

Touwa's gaze hardened, but he kept his composure. "Then things get complicated. And trust me, you don't want that." He tilted his head slightly, signaling to Kaoru, who hopefully would let his bloodthirst seep into his expression, enhancing the implied threat. The shorter man hesitated, clearly unnerved by the combined presence of the two genin. "Alright, alright," he said, holding up his hands. "We might have something like that. But it wasn't us who stole it. We were just trying to make a quick sale."

Touwa nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "I appreciate your honesty. Now, hand it over." The men exchanged nervous glances before the scruffy one reached into a bag and pulled out a small, ornate box, exactly matching the description. He handed it over reluctantly. "Here. Take it."

Touwa accepted the box, examining it briefly to ensure it was the right one. Satisfied, he gave a nod. "Thank you. Now, I suggest you find a new line of work. One that doesn't involve stolen goods." With that, he turned to Kaoru, his expression shifting to one of relief mixed with triumph. "Let's head back and return this to the client. Job well done." Ruiteki once again returned to its dormant form.

The journey back to the client's house was swift. When they arrived, the old man greeted them with a mixture of hope and anxiety. Touwa held up the box, his smile warm. "We found it. Your heirloom is safe." The old man's eyes filled with tears of gratitude as he accepted the box. "Thank you, young men. You've done a great service to my family."

Touwa nodded respectfully. "It was our pleasure. Take care." As they left the client's house, Touwa turned to Kaoru dropping his polite facade, "Finally, can't they find better actors? Anyways, let's go get some food, it seems the chicken yakitori was well used." With that said Touwa would take the lead once again and lead the two to a nearby stand to grab some lunch.

Tokonatsu Kaoru

Kaoru was young, lithe, and cute, and yet there was something inherently unnerving about him when he wasn't restraining his attitude. Following behind Touwa, he made sure to really play up that, fierce gaze, sharp grin, and a firm grip on the hilt of his sword, Kaoru moved like the young predator he was, the clack of his sandals against the ground a warning that would suddenly go silent even as he continued to move into position to Touwa's left and stood there... menacingly.

He didn't need to say a word, simply increase the size of his feral grin in time with Touwa's increased threat, allowing his own physicality to enhance Touwa's sense of menace. If they were dealing with older shinobi such a thing would probably lead to them being laughed at or condescended, but they weren't dealing with shinobi, which meant that they were successful in their attempt.

Trailing after the dark haired boy as they handed back the item and received confirmation of a completed mission, it wasn't until everything was done that he spoke.

"If they used better actors then they'd have to pay more, and we probably wouldn't get paid as much," he said with a shrug, an amused grin on his face at Touwa's need for more food. Seems the younger Genin was in the midst of a growth spurt if he was this hungry already.

"Oh yeah, look at what I found at the market~" he added as he handed over a small black cat charm that looked remarkably like Kuro, "you could put it on your flute~"

A successful mission indeed.
